Update: 10/15 NSDs
I've been reading but haven't had any time to post. I'm having a hard time adjusting to working again. The job itself is going well, and I love the company I'm working for. It's just been hard to adjust to waking up so early. I now have a bit of a commute, and I can no longer run home on my lunch break. Over all I'm gone from home each day a couple hours longer than I'm used to.
Hope everyone had a good weekend.

This will turn out to be a rant but I am back. Today I spent $300+ and I am okay with it. My SIL and I went out for lunch and I bought. We decided to do this every month so next month it will be her turn to buy. I got gas today and I have not gotten gas since 1/29. I went to Wal Mart and spent the rest on food, phone, cats, office stuff, work clothes, entertainment and meds. There is no place to store our purses or coats at the new store (duh) so I bought one of those alumana wallets so I can keep it in my pants pocket. I bought a new pair of sneakers for work and a new pair of pants. I got a 450, on my plan it doubles to 900, minute phone card for $80 so I should be good until September for minutes. I can call you, honey, because I now have the minutes. I bought an NCIS season tape so I now have 3 seasons to watch when I want. I bought a new journal because it was purple and that was the only reason. I do not need another journal because I have at least 6 stored in a box but it was purple and I liked it. Then I bought some meds, vitamins and pain meds, so I am set on them for a couple of months. Then I bought my weekly groceries and the cat stuff. For the office stuff, I got some manila folders because I need to file my papers. $225- Wal Mart $50+ gas $25+ lunch My SIL and I talked for over 3 hours this afternoon. She discussed her divorce and I talked about my depression. We both needed this day. I also talked about my anger issues so I am not so angry but still somewhat. I have been sleeping all day until time to go to work, coming home and playing games on here and reading and writing. I usually get 2-3 hours before I get up at 2 am for 4-5 hours and then going back to bed until time for work. I am thinking about taking some Melatonin on a regular basis for a couple of months. Today is the 29th anniversary of my husband's death and 14th anniversary of my father's death. The 21st of this month was my husband's 72nd birthday and the 31st of January was our 43rd wedding anniversary. Now that that is over, I may be able to get back to my old self but there is still the stress of the new store opening and the "morons" they hired to work. They all have the "entitlement mentality" and I can't stand it. I don't care what the handbook says, if we have customers, you stay until they are gone. You do not take your 15 minute smoke break while there is a line of 7-8 customers and only 2 or 3 clerks at the counter. And just because the hand book says you get a 15 minute break before and after your lunch break doesn't mean you get to take them. If that is the case, I have over a week of breaks coming to me. We did get rid of the "deli manager from hell" and the new one is supposed to be very good. We will see. I have yet to work with her.

3cats- HUGS! Glad to see you back! I think part of "smart spending" and "controlled spending" is doing what is best for you and yours. I have made this discovery that sometimes we just have to do what we feel is best- period.
And I like purple too.

Hello all.
Ugghhh. I'm still slammed at work and Mini-D was diagnosed with pneumonia last week. Luckily after a few days on antibiotic, he seems to be returning to his normal self. Luckily we have a great support system and were able to ask our parents to watch him for us while he was too sick to go to pre-school. so DH & I were able to only miss a couple days each. He went back today and once he found the legos was fine with me leaving.
So for Lent I gave up shopping (not grocery shopping). I have a few gift cards that I am allowing myself to use and of course I blew it already, but I'm sticking with it. Yesterday I meant to grab a Target GC we had when I took mini-D shopping for a present for a friends b-day and I forgot. I wasn't going to put it back and come back another time to get it, since I do value my time as well. Plus my little weed has gone up in size AGAIN. For some reason it kind of snuck up on me. I realized last week that he was constantly out of clothes, so this weekend DH & I went through all his clothes and realized he had 8 prs of pants and 5 shirts that still fit. So I also picked up some long sleeve shirts for him to finish out this season and hopefully still wear them in the fall. With a 3 year 5 shirts is not enough to make more than a couple days. At least twice a week he has to change clothes when he gets home because he so dirty. Yes I'm trying to justify that expenditure.
3cats- Doesn't the supervisor on duty have to okay the 15 min break? Most places I worked had that policy so if they were busy the person had to wait until a lull. Lunches were pretty set in stone, but those breaks were pretty fluid. Hope you new manager is able to put some order to it. And sometimes you have to buy something just because you like it.
Money- Mini-D will be 4 in April. It is so hard to believe my baby is not a baby anymore. When we were in the doctors office last week both the nurse and the doctor remarked on how tall he was. He also has an imaginary friend that comes over and helps him fix things in the house.
Financial= Hope the job continues to go well.
Shan- Saw you were approved by the adoption agency on your blog. Congrats.
Honey- Hugs that is a tough decision. Hope that it works out the way you want it too.

dakota; Unfortunately the super does not have to okay our breaks. But we older ones do know that the customer comes first. Our lunch breaks are not set either. They are scheduled but if we are busy we wait. You get a half hour but when the time comes for your lunch break and we are busy, we stay until there is a lull. Unless you are one of the new people, then you take your break when YOU want it, not when it isn't busy. update: 23 NSD, 2 EOD 2 Spend days

I took down my calendar so I need to find another place to keep it up so I continue to update my days. I'll have a final count tomorrow.
What's our March thread going to be? Mindful March Make Money March Make Good Choices March Money in Check March Moneywise in March Moolah in Moi Wallet March...
Yesterday was a CSD, I bought coffee since it was buy one get one free and paid cash. I also had a hydro massage (dry bed with jet streams of water) and that was free thanks to a package I bought in November.
Today should be a NSD and tomorrow as well. I need to bake some cookies or cupcakes for Grandpa's birthday but that should be using up extras in my pantry.
Finally, I am *almost* done with the refinished frame for my bedroom! I need just one more coat of black spray paint and to modge podge the poster to the canvas and I'll be done!

I like them all- but I think Mindful March sums up where we all need to be financially, emotionally, physically, etc.
DM is taking me shopping for some necessities tomorrow. She is also shopping tomorrow.

Final Update 26/29 NSD
I absolutely know I will not be spending tomorrow. We are having a freezing fog storm (or worse) to last through 11am tomorrow. Who knows when the layer of ice will melt off of the cars. It took me 1/2 hour to drive what would normally take less than 10 minutes! And then I couldn't manage the slope of my own driveway. Stay warm everyone.
I, too, like Mindful March.

Got a REALLY nice refund, so happy. Now we can fix the van (could cost up to $1000) the truck to sell it this summer/fall and put more money into retirement or whatever funds! Dakota: Hope mini-D is doing better. That would just scare me. Oh and I did make a doctor's appt for my shoulder finally. I damaged it last April and the dang thing just won't heal. When I think it is doing okay something happens to mess it up again. mizbear: That is cool DM is taking you shopping. When does she go to the doc to see about living with you or on her own? SES: Ya doing okay? It is sleeting something terrible out right now. I may just say screw it turn my alarm off and keep the 2 kids home tomorrow. Had to go out for DS#1's concert tonight. Was okay but it is going to get worse and maybe freeze more. Night ladies.

How are you ladies in the sleet and freezing rain area doing? Any of you in the tornado area? Please be safe, all of you The schools are on a 2 hour delay but when I looked out my window, all I saw was puddles. No rain, sleet or freezing rain. I do know that some of the outlying areas of the district are in higher elevations so that is probably the reason for the delays. I know things are different now because , "when I went to school" we never had snow delays or days off because of snow, unless we got a good snow fall of at least 2-3 feet. I haven't seen one of those in the past 10 years or so. Last day of February and I am doing okay. I got through the deaths, birthdays and wedding anniversary "anniversaries". Now comes Easter and when that is over I will have tome to get ready for Mom's anniversary of her death which is in September. Who knows, this year it may not hit me because I am expecting it to. I think the past 2 months were hard because the stress of the new store and new management fell within the anniversaries. Anyway, another month starts tomorrow. I also like the Mindfull March name. Last update for February; 25 NSD, 2 SD, 2 EOD.

MK- The doc wants her to settle into a routine for a few months (probably through her next chemo cycle in July) and then re-evaluate. That way she will get a good pic after she has had some counseling and also her regular doctor's care. Will find out more today.
Everyone e careful in this nutty weather.

It is now raining very hard because I can hear it on the tin roof of the other room. Time for a good nap since I have been up since 5 am and I usually don't get up til after 10. Now I can sleep until noon unless it gets noisy next door. I finished a dishcloth and balanced my check book. I posted to excel and wrote in my journal and online journal. I also posted here twice. Not bad for 4 hours of quiet. Oh yeah, I had breakfast of ham, eggs, fried potatoes, toast and milk. (Jimmy Dean Ham and Egg Bowl by the way. It does nice in the microwave.)

It sleeted lots then turned to snow. Man that is some heavy stuff! I e-mailed both kid's teachers last night telling them I wasn't sending them regardless. At 5:15 am they cancelled school. DF brillant man that is he tried to go to work. Got stuck really bad in the street in front of our home. A guy had stopped to help, I got dressed and worked the car while they pushed. Finally a snow plow (who had just gotten stuck and had an even larger piece of construction equiptment get him out) plowed a path, helped us push the car into the plowed area. Then DF did a bit of shoveling and we got the car in the driveway barely and left it for then. You KNOW it is bad when the plows get stuck. DF didn't want to take the truck since it really needs to go into the mechanic. I did move it to snowblow/shovel and it started well but it looks like the power steering fluid leaked out.
Anyways it was good thing I kept DS#2 home, he is ill. Poor kid. DS#1 is grounded from screentime since he wouldn't go out and help or play and was sassy.
I think Mindful March is a great name!
Stay safe ladies.

Final Update: 14 NSDs Almost half the month. I feel a lot more in control right now than we have in a while. 3 of those were gas only NSDs. Today is a controlled spend, as we're paying the home study fee and I'm doing a 3 month refill on DH's migraine Rx.
I will be reading but not actively participating next month. We'll be moving forward with the homestudy, which will take quite a bit of time/emotional energy and working on getting the house ready to pass foster licensing. DH will have roughly 2 weeks of no school, so we'll use that time to do some bigger projects. We've got to get an application in for Medicaid for the MIL. Plus, on Sunday night she had an erratic heart beat and they thought she was going to die. We refused additional treatment because she isn't "living" right now, per her own definition. But, heart beat stabalized and by Monday morning she was "fine". And honestly, we no longer know whether to be happy about that or not. So it's going to be a busy, crazy, stressful month, and my presence online everywhere is going to be quite minimal.

Question of the Week: How do you handle saving for things you know are going to come up in the future that are large expenses?
For example I have two that are on my mind, 1 is a different vehicle for DF as I know his will need to be replaced in the next 2-3 years. In that same time frame DS#1 WILL need braces. So I figure we need $15-$20K for those items. That is what part of our tax refund will go towards, a fund for them.
Challenge of the Week: To look at the major items you will need to replace in the next 5 years and start planning on how you are going to pay for them. If you have already planned then I challenge you to put money into those funds.
I will post both of these on the next thread.

Honey; I saw your town on my weather station and it said that you will have some power outages in your area. Also you will have more snow and maybe some ice. Please be careful. Any of you ladies in the path of the storms, please be careful. Mother Nature is not very happy at this time of year. I don't know about you, but I am tired of the storms coming. I just heard that there is another storm following the last one.

Final Update: 24/23 NS and 27/27 No QVC ;D COTW: I'm ahead of the game on this one! Since most of my appliances are going on 12 years old (except the fridge - I'm on my second one already!), one of my savings goals on the Savers thread was an appliance account - fully funded it last year Now I'm working on a paint and carpet account.
