"if anyone thinks this Christmas Spirit of giving will carry over to the new congress next year they are sadly mistaken IMHO"
I think the first few, maybe 6 months will be tough. New blood is coming to Washington having promised to repeal this and change that. They will quickly figure out how Washington works and will either fall into a pattern of obstructionism or realize that they need to give and take to get legislation signed into law. There will be areas where agreement just won't be possible but other areas where I believe both sides will find a way to work together. Reality will strike home, you can't cut revenues and cut the deficit without some substantial cuts in spending. IMO, Obama's debt commission came up with what could be the basis of a new tax policy which cuts taxes rates but also does away with some of the well known deductions. Washington has the opportunity to do some things right, whether they do or not will be discussed in 2012.

What is the unknown for the next two years is the effect the Tax Cuts will have on our economy. So the question in my old tired brain is what is next?? But I have been around long enough to know we have experienced multiple recessions and recovered...so if we all try to improve our lives and our children lives, then I believe innovation and growth will follow.....and innovation in green tech is my area of concentration as an investment goal..

Actually, I have an understanding of the games that politicians play. The article I linked explains the game that they (and now you) were playing.

The link is there for people to read and decide.
I do not believe that any doctor should prescribe any medicines for erectile disfunction to sex offenders.

I do agree that Obama finished strong but next year the Party is over . Why? Because Republicans will take away the Fruit Punch Bowl....they will control the agenda in the House and with more seats in the senate they will drive Ole Harry Reid Bonkers. Remember you heard it here first and you know I never make a Bad Call....cough, cough...because of the reliability and credibility of my unreliable sources...

Hey Rachets you are right on Bud .....there was NO Economic Collapse and there will be NO Economic Collapse predicted by a very troubled few who are delusional and paranoid about Concrete Cowboys herds in Houston out to take away their food and clothing during a depression worse than the 30s.. That has to be the most obnoxious buffoonery I have read here since joining this board in 2002..

Ultimately, the amendment failed, 57-42, with Reid among those voting against it. The health care law eventually was signed into law, and Baucus was quite right that it would show up in 30-second commercials.
So how accurate is Angle's charge? The ad implies that Reid actively wanted to give subsidized Viagra to sex offenders, but that isn't the case. First, what Reid actually did was vote against an amendment that would have stopped using taxpayer dollars for that purpose. Second, Senate Democrats made it clear at the time that they were not voting on the merits of the amendment, but rather to salvage their bigger legislative priority, the health care bill itself. Finally, Reid didn't actively bring up this issue; it was proposed by a senator opposed to the broader health care bill.
We should also mention that the use of taxpayer dollars for sex-offender Viagra was -- and is -- a hypothetical. While CRS concluded that there was nothing in the current law to stop it from happening, the earliest it could start is in 2014 -- so there's ample time for lawmakers or federal officials to write laws or regulations to stop it before then.
Finally, whatever taxpayer subsidies for sex offenders may materialize after 2014 would not go to all sex offenders; it would go to the subset of sex offenders who get their health care through the exchanges and who also qualify for subsidies.
The ad is correct that Reid voted against a prohibition on taxpayer-subsidized Viagra for sex offenders. But the ad leaves out a lot of important context that, if it had been included, would have given a different impression. We rate the ad Barely True.
In other words, to vote for the no viagra for molesters amendment would have sabotaged the whole Health Reform Bill. Repubs have plenty of time to amend it now, but somehow have lost interest. IE: a canard for dittoheads...

In other words, Ratchets grading of "straight talk" is somewhat questionable... and experts are now saying the past two years have been one of the most productive in history, like 1964-66 (Civil Rights, Great Society, Medicare/aid, etc). Now all Dems have to do is work on Jobs and wait for the economy to recover. TYVM

It had NOT passed yet- The Republicans were simply STALLING and trying to get an amendment added that would have sabotaged the whole bill, as the Senate had changed due to the election of Scott Brown and couldn't have passed another version of any kind. It's just another Republican LIE. The checking group is FAR too generous to say it's barely true...

Thank god. My father was a doctor who was for this since the forties and died at 92 in 2006., just not believing we still didn't have universal health care. God knows how much guff he took for it...

I know there are holes in it, there are negatives but they can be fixed. The reason for it is that health costs have been going through the roof, and the prediction are they would continue to rise and more and more companies would opt out of offering it and if the unemployment stayed high, which it is being predicted to do, there is no pressure to continue offering it as a work /employment incentive. The incentive is that I am a employer who has jobs to offer, and as long as I can offer them with fewer benefits and get them filled with qualified people, that's what I am going to do. Don't think that will happen? How many people here are working fior a company that still offers pensions? If your not working for a governmental department , a public entity, I suggest many are know longer offering that benefit. Those who are offering the 401's in lieu, I am suggesting more and more are cutting their companies contributions or are increasing it if one buys the companies stock. Republicans self admittadly have said they were opting out of any cooperation with the President, the Democrats, and do anything possible to see that they are back into power. It's two years yet before the election, this guy is not dumb, it should be interesting but there is no question that what we need is Jobs..and that I haven't a clue how to get in #'s that are significant..

Some more stimulus left, those tax cuts, and let the economy continue to recover...Repubs are behind it now, finally, and they at least BELIEVE those tax cuts for the rich will help...

"First, the healthcare bill had already passed, that's why the Republicans came up with 64 amendments. So you can't sabotage a bill that's passed."
It had passed the senate, not the house. Had any of those amendments passed it would have had to pass the senate again, which as has been pointed out may not have happened due to Brown from MA. The debate had gone on for over a year, plenty of time for the pubs to have raised these issues in earlier versions of the bill. Once the bill passed the senate, Brown coming in forced the senate to go with what they had. The interesting question, how long will it take the new republican house to put together meaningful changes to the healthcare legislation. My guess, they will focus on a full repeal losing any opportunity to tweek the legislation before Obama's re-election in 2012.

Health Care was passed by Pelosi and Obama...without one republican vote. So yes it was passed but has it been fully tested? Absolutely NO..IMHO... Obama and Pelosi promise this health care reform bill will improve the quality and reach for those with no health care coverage. They also promise this bill will also make the health care system more efficient, reduce premiums, and thus lower the national debt. OK you have seen a historic vote and promises by Obama and Pelosi so the true test is yet to come.

Most of the health initiative has not yet gone into effect, in fact very little has..you can relate to that RDT, your interests..when Roosevelt presented and Congress passed the Declaration of War against Japan, and shortly Germany after they declared same against us in 1941..it took years , before we were ready to actually be a force to meet them on the field of battle. Little steps that became the large strides as we ramped up our production of war materials , the basic and then the advance training of our forces. Even your beloved Marine Corps, till then , a tiny force, brave as they were , not anything like they would become. Everything good and worth while is Worth waiting for and hopefully this will be something good...in time, but not to be over night, and how long has it been since it was passed...a few months.. Even the birth of our children takes nine months and even then they are weak and helpless, needing time to grow and be strong , needing looking after and cherishing till they can stand alone on their own two feet.. So why not something as momentum and new..takes time and we haven't even gotten beyond the embryo stage yet..patience is a virtue as they say..just give it time.

Yeah, I'm sure the person on the other end of Obama's bb is happy! I'm not saying he hasn't accomplished alot - just don't agree with most of it. And i still think he's one & done! <fingers crossed> Little Red I love your avatar...but with that being said the Health Care Bill is nothing more than snake oil sold to us by a snake oil salesman Barrack Obama ...the costs are not decreasing for health care and corruption in the Health Care System is alive and flurishing..
