Here ya go Beags! Rat rods are hotrods built like they were in the "old" days, '40's, '50's, '60's with bits and pieces of this and that, not the shiny, spiffy VERY EXPENSIVE cars of today called hotrods.

Something the average "joe" can build for less than $10,000, sometimes considerably less, whereas a shiny polished hotrod can cost over $100,000 nowadays, taking the fun out of it.

That's a rat rod? I've seen those before, I just never knew that's what it was called.

Grand Torino! Fond memories Kent! My dad had a green one (wish I still had it!) Yep. Bought it brand new 36 years ago - 460 cubic inches of fun. ;D Need the carb rebuilt for the second time in a month because the secondaries are leaking just enough to screw up my smog test - should have that done next week and then I'm back on the road.

ive been working-playing with hotrods and drag cars sinse 1974, current toy is a "78" el camino with a 355 mouse motor, got all the good stuff on it, holley 650 dual line dual feed, edlebrock air gap rpm, hedman headers with x-pipe and 3" exhaust, currently has a turbo 350 in it but changing over to a m-22 rock crusher 4-speed. theres a ton of $ and labor in it, but its a hobby and its fun, currently getting some of the g/fs gran kids interested as they are getting close to driving age.

Nice Kent, I remember my dad saying pretty much the drivetrain from a Thunderbird was in it. Ours had a 351 cleveland, nice sway bars, an HD suspension. We were a ford (or plymouth/dodge) family. My F-250 had the 460. My dad got me into cars. We restored a '34 Ford 3 window, from the ground up from 14 to 16, that was my baby, drove it on dates, to the prom. Smartly, never hotrodded that one. Wish I still had that, but I've had lots of cool cars over the years.

NICE! Your like me, that's about when I started. Besides the Roadrunner (bought in '92 from original owner's wsidow with 26,000 mi's for $9500!!!!) Way before auctions sent our hobby thru the roof. I'm building a '29 ratrod p/up. '32 rails, with a 354 hemi in it from a '56 Imperial. Been searching parts and fabricating for two years, should be driveable by next year or next Christmas.

A major cool event in our town is the Buggies and Blues. They park the cars on mainstreet to show them off then the bands play at night. www.buggies-n-blues.org/Some of the owners meet every Tuesday night at a different fast food restuarant. Recently, the local Elk's Club lot was full and looky-loos parking overflowing into a grocery store. I have thought about taking my 2011 Honda CR-Z Hybrid to BNB but I don't have the patience to hang out on the street chatting for 2 to 3 days. Nor do I have the detailing skills.

My bro. who lives in WY said the county he lives in is cleaning up yards and has stiff requirement on what can be parked in a yard. It's very restrictive. I asked him how many vehicles he had to get inside and I stopped counting at 15. His health is very poor but he said he has help.
He said there is little interest from people when he tries to sell them. Everyone wants them already restored.
