So here it is, a new WIR Losers thread for 2012.
This thread is for support and accountability for those WIR trying to lose extra pounds.
For me, I feel my health and weight gain the last few years has been because of allowing stress about other things (including finances) effect my physical health. My goal, with fellow WIR support, is to lose 1-2 pounds per week during 2012 until I reach my goal weight of 185. Sadly, I currently weigh 255 and have held at that weight (maybe fluctuating between 250-260) for 3 years since my son was born. I have a treadmill and stationary bike, along with aerobic & yoga DVDs. I saw some free weights (3, 5, & 7 lbs sets) on sell and will get them later today. I saw the post in the old thread about changing up your routine everyday to keep the motivation. So between all these things I already have I think I can put together daily routines that will help with this goal. I am also working on my eating habits. I eat way too much sugar and I know that is the "killer" in my habits.
What is your goal for 2012? And do you have a plan?

Tips to help to reach your weight goal :
Banning all 'bad' foods
The diet you’re following bans all your favourite foods (chocolate, cheese, ice cream, chips…) and you feel deprived. You might last a couple of weeks, feeling more and more bored with the monotony of your regime—but then you’ll crack. And when you do give in, you end up stuffing yourself with those forbidden foods to make up for days of self-denial.
Cutting out meals to save calories
“Skipping meals can have a negative impact on your metabolism,” says Toronto nutritionist Aviva Allen—your body might start storing extra fat in anticipation of more missed meals. Instead of eating less, consume small, nutrient-dense snacks and meals more often – every three hours is ideal – and try not to eat after seven o’clock at night, when your metabolism is at its slowest.
Eating often also makes it easier to stay on track beacause denying yourself food isn’t a sustainable practice. “The biggest mistake is to think of your diet as a temporary event to reach a specific weight-loss goal,” says Allen. “If you plan to return to your old habits once you’ve reached your goal, the weight will quickly return.”
Committing to the same fitness routine every day
No matter how good the fitness plan, sticking with the exact same routine day after day is hard—and discouraging. In his first book, 5-Factor Fitness, Hollywood trainer Harley Pastnernak recommends a different workout for every day of the week, each focusing on a different body part. Whether you vary the number of reps you do or make a switch from cardio to resistance training, it’s important to vary your routine enough so you don’t get bored. “At least one thing should be different daily,” Pasternak suggests
Resolving to follow the latest fad diet
Fad diets, diets that require you to purchase special food and plans that require you to cut out certain food groups altogether often end up with you right back where you started on the scale. “Stop yo-yo dieting, because eventually your metabolism will conk out from all the up and down and it will be harder to lose weight,” says Joey Shulman, a registered nutritionist. Instead, choose a diet program that works for your lifestyle and work the best parts of it into your routine—even after you’ve lost the weight
Eliminating carbs from your diet
Cutting out food groups means you might be missing out on nutrients you need to lose weight and stay healthy. “Avoid cutting out important food groups such as carbohydrates, for example,” says Allen. “Complex carbohydrates such as whole grains, legumes, and vegetables are important sources of fibre, which is essential for keeping us regular and removing excess cholesterol, fat, and toxins from our bodies.”

Here is a quote that Iggy seen today........ "If you are sick of starting over, then stop quitting"Namaste Everyone, I've been at this current weight for I don't know how long. But it was never a good weight for me as I'm only 4 foot, 6.5 inches tall (I'll get weighed at the hospital on Tuesday, January 3rd). I have a blood disorder and have to be transfused on a regular basis, as such I'm also iron overloaded. Because of the iron overload and the meds that I have to take, the weight has been maintained, but I am overweight. Basically the excess fat is causing havoc with my system and it hurts. I bend over to tie up my sneakers and the fat goes up under the ribcage and it gets pinched (I've actually cried trying to do up my sneakers, it gets THAT BAD.) I've talked with my team of doctors and they have given me a lot of things to think about with the benefits of losing weight. So for me losing weight is for my health and peace of mind. I'm tired of the pain. I'm tired being not at my best health that I can be. I'm compliant with all my doctors, treatments, meds and appointments, this is doable. I have free weights, hula hoop, jump rope, Tony Little Easy Shaper, Bodyblade Classic Exerciser and a exercise mat. I also have nutrition knowledge that my girlfriend taught me. So I'm off and running. Hoping to lose up to 30 pounds, my current BMI is 25.3 and I wish everyone else on this journey with me much success & joy. BTW just call me Sugi Just Do It !

Welcome to all the new posters who are joining our group. The more the merrier!
onmywaynow - it sounds like you have the basics of a good plan in place, so you should be successful if you follow it. While I weigh myself daily (it's what works for me), I post my weight every Thursday. I think a number of posters report their weights every week or so.
I just signed up for another exercise class. Trying to exercise on my own just doesn't work for me. I've been taking a one hour basic exercise class for older adults (I turned 59 last week). The class meets Mon, Wed, & Fri mornings. I just signed up for Zumba Gold by the same instructor for an hour on Saturday mornings starting in a couple of weeks. I'm still losing weight, but it has really slowed down. I'm hoping that more exercise will help.

Hey all hope everyone had a great holiday! I did okay on the weight front. I haven't lost anything, but am still bouncing around the same weight I was at before Christmas. So even though I'm not looking forward to it, going back to work tomorrow will help me get back into my routine and hopefully hit that 25 pound loss mark soon.
Sugi- welcome
MN- I have the same problem trying to workout at home. If I'm at the gym it is no problem, but at home too many other things get in the way.

I am coming back to this thread for 2012 also! Mr. Cat is going on sabbatical to Australia from Feb - May and when he comes back I am going to be a babe cat and 30 pounds lighter...come heck or high water!!! I'm sorry I dropped out on you guys in 2011. I've been diagnosed with severe iron deficiency anemia and the fatigue/pain has been debilitating. I've been on the iron supplements for about three weeks but it's still hard to make it through an entire work day. I have been taking Wednesdays off in December and may try to continue that in January also. I've been told that my iron was so low (Hemoglobin of 8; Ferritin of 2) that it could have caused heart problems or a heart attack and that was scary. I am going to call my doc tomorrow and see what kind of exercise I can start doing..if any. My next check up is in 3 weeks and she may tell me to wait until then. I will do an official weigh in and get started on this thread once I get the ok from her. Happy 2012 WIRR Losers!

1/1/12 = 221 LBS - heaviest weight ever! I need to get back on the wagon too. I tore a couple of tendons in my ankle over 2 months ago, and just cannot get healed. On top of that, I developed plantar fasciatus (sp?) in my other foot - that is the debilitating part. Ended up giving up on everything, especially eating habits since it hurts to even stand. But I am determined to get back to it! HappyCat, I too suffer from severe iron deficiency so I know where you are coming from. Unfortunately, it can be a long road to get to the point where you feel semi-normal. I was diagnosed 3 years ago, and there are still plenty of days where staying upright is impossible. Good luck to you.

2012 goal is to lose 20 lbs. I would like 10 lbs to be gone by June 9th as that is the day I will run my Warrior dash. I will take at least one group class at the gym per week beginning next week. (I really wanted to start today but I am still fighting this lingering illness so I am not sure if I will make it tonight)

I'm hopping back onboard as well, and I signed up for another round of a "Biggest Loser" type challenge with some girlfriends for a little financial motivation too. I start 2012 at 213, which is actually a little lower than I thought I'd be for how puffy I've been feeling lately. that was a pleasant surprise! daisy - I also developed plantar fasciitis over the summer. check out the thread I started back then, I got some great tips! notmsnmoney.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=physicalhealth&action=display&thread=13822best of luck to all, and here's to a healthy and happy 2012!

Thanks chiver! My pain is in the low part of my arch, probably from favoring it while trying to heal the ankle of my other foot. I currently am "strapping" the arch and it helps, but not enough, so I will be looking for arch supports after work today as well.

daisylu: I use the little green ball called Footrubz for my PF. I think I mentioned it on chiver's thread. It really helps. Mine cost $8 but I bought it in a fancy orthopedic shoe store. I think you can get them on the internet for about $5. For me, it works better than a golf ball or tennis ball. I start out with easy pressure and slowly add more. It really helps to get into the muscle and work the pain out. I use it everyday! Check it out.

Hello ladies! Ready to tackle this weight in 2012! I'm not making it a resolution, I'm making it a HABIT, to live a healthier lifestyle!
My goal is to drop 20 pounds by March 1. It was 15, but I seemed to have found another 5 over the holidays. I'm hoping those drop as quickly as they arrived. In March DH and I will be trying for a baby, so I want to be hot for once, just in time to totally lose my figure. Plus I just want a healthy pregnancy. I got some Zumba DVDs, and the Dance Central 2 game for xbox kinect, for Christmas, so I have new stuff to do at home. Plus I will go to the gym once or twice a week, and take an occasional Zumba class when I have time. I need to mix up my workouts, otherwise I get bored and stop altogether. Oh, and I walk at least a mile, usually 2, on weekdays at lunch. I need to be better about working out on weekends, too, other than cleaning. So, lots to work on!!
1/3/12 = 175lbs Goal: 155 lbs
HappyCat - can't wait to see DH's reaction to Babe Cat! hehe. Good luck! And good luck with your anemia. You'll get there!

Ok, I can't exercise until I see the doc again in three weeks so until then I am going to concentrate on healthy eating habits and drinking lots of water. Today I got a new reason to lose the weight. Navy Nurse Best Friend is going to Hawaii in June for training and the room/rental car will be paid. She invited me to come hang out with her and it will only cost me airfare and fun money. I lived in Hawaii in the early 90s and I'm so excited to go back for a week with my bestie!!! RedWagon: Make that BEACH BABE CAT!!! Meeooowww!!!!! Woo hoooooo!!

Official 2012 starting weigh-in: 166.2
I really wanted to take a particular class at the Y but I realized it is from 6-7 and not 7-8 so I am not sure if I will ever make it in time since we do not get home until 5-5:30 and I prefer to not go to the gym before I eat dinner. I will have to look to see what classes they have from 7-8 or Sat mornings.
Last night I broke out my Zumba game for the Kinect and let me say I definetely got a work out in (doesn't help that I am not in great shape). I did one of the 20 minute beginner routines and I was spent by the time I was done. Tonight I will either do another one or maybe get to the gym.
I will make 2012 my year to lose this weight. I want to be in better shape for myself and for my son.

I swore yesterday, it was -27C here with the Wind Chill and I power walked to the bus stop. DUMB, DUMB, DUMB. I was so winded and my heart was beating so strongly. Not the brightest thing I've ever done. It was only a 10 minute walk, but I'm asthmatic, so it wasn't smart.

Too bad Sugi and the low iron folks can't swap some blood/iron. I know it doesn't work that way but wouldn't that be helpful? I weighed in this morning at 177.5. I stopped trying to exercise and lose weight sometime last fall, due to stress/depression/need for sleep. I feel good right now so that probably means it's time to get to work. Life Goal - 150, give or take a few. Short term goal - get out of the damn 170s and stay out.

Starting weight for 2012 - 172.2. (I think my low last year was 171.6), so not too bad for the holidays.
JD- I like the Y, but can't imagine paying their rates. I got a 3 month membership at a charity fundraiser for $30. But the normal rate in my area is almost $80 a month. My local rec center is only $10, so I'll probably start going there, in a couple weeks when my Y membership expires. I do love that the Y has individual TV's on the cardio equipment, so you can watch what you like, but I don't like it that much.

so far my first week on this challenge isn't going so great. i really worked out for the first time this morning (other than housework). did 10 pushups, 20 crunches (middle & each side), stretched for 2 and did the treadmill for 15. i did 7 minutes at 3.5 and it said i burned 103 cals but i know that calorie-counter is way off. i need one of those personal ones that wrap around the chest & knows your heart rate, etc. anyone know what i'm talking about and know the best version? i've done decent with meals - not so much junk. i need to keep a food diary. anyone do that? any tips you wanna share? ok, i need to get a shower & get to work.
happy wednesday everyone.

I am a member of the Y. We have a family membership. It is pricey but it gives us the option of the pool as well as being able to walk into any of the classes (except for the yoga) with no additional cost. It also keeps DS's swim class cost down by $40-$50 per session. The one reason we finally caved is I get reimbursed $500 each year through my health insurance so it really only comes out to roughly $30 per month for the family once we get that back.

2012 is the year I am getting back into shape! I started in Sept and lost 37 pounds....gained 2-3 back over the holidays, so not too bad. Still have 57 pounds to go....so I am starting the year at 217. Goal - 160pounds.
I have a 3 month membership to the Y that started Jan 1. My goal would be to kick most of these pounds by then!! After that, I will go back to my walks and bike riding outside and look for a cheaper option for weight training.
Today I will start back to the Y. I went for a couple weeks in Dec. Goal this week is to workout 4 times, 20 min on treadmill, 30 min on bike, circuit on the weights, and 100 crunches daily.
Good luck with the weight loss everyone!!
