I got my first rose this month, for Garden 2012 ! Now I can schedule with the guy to finish up the courtyard - really looking forward to having a new fence. I'm kinda blah about savings. I know I have to, but it isn't turning me on. Got to shake this bug and get back in the groove!

UPDATE - With tagline ;D Fund | Goals | 1/1/2012 | Current | % Met | Addl Retirement | $9,000 | $0 | $0 | 0.00% | Rental savings | $14,618 | $180 | $5,180 | 35.44% | IRA - 2012 | $5,000 | $0 | $0 | 0.00% | Health Svgs -2012 | $3,100 | $0 | $0 | 0.00% | Emergency Fund | $29,400 | $498 | $4,272 | 14.53% | Vacation (Sept) | $6,000 | $0 | $0 | 0.00% | IRA - 2011 | $5,000 | $0 | $0 | 0.00% | Health Savings -2011 | $3,050 | $0 | $0 | 0.00% | Holding account | | $0 | $3,800 | | Total | $75,168 | $678 | $13,252 | 17.63%
My Chase Business Checking account (that I use for the rental properties) requires me to keep $5,000 as a minimum daily balance in order to avoid monthly bank charges. I hadn't been counting this in my savings but now that the required minimum daily balance is going to be increased to $7,500 I feel like I should include it. So that is what the additional $5,000 in the rental savings column is and soon (if I can figure out where to get it) there will be an additional $2,500. FemaleSam 2/18/12 $13,252 ($678 1/2/12 Goal $75,168)

twinmama - That is exactly how it feels. I'm going to start looking for a new bank. There will be a transition period though because my tenants deposit their rent directly into my account so I have to make sure that everyone is aware of a change and has the new information.

Hello All! Some of you might remember me from the MSN boards, then I started again here on ProBoards towards the beginning, I then dropped off the face of the boards and now I am back! With our new savings goal in hand I have updated my spreadsheet and tagline and am ready to start the saving train! DF and I went home for Christmas and realized that my brother and his GF (who works part time) are saving $250.00 each every week toward their condo, so we decided to match them! DF is saving everything towards our Down payment (500 bi-weekly) but I know that one day I want to actually get married and we need to save for that too so I split my savings. We are each saving the same total amount in our own ING accounts. Here is how mine looks for this year. Fund | Goals | 18 Feb '12 | Current | Remaining | % of Goal | ING - ISA | $577.00 | $75.94 | 75.94 | 501.06 | 13% | ING - USD | $123.22 | $123.22 | 123.22 | 0.00 | 100% | ING - Emergency Fund | $1,300.00 | $151.43 | 151.43 | 1,148.57 | 12% | ING - Wedding Fund | $1,300.00 | $501.86 | 501.86 | 798.14 | 39% | ING - RRSP | $3,000.00 | $2,963.43 | 2,963.43 | 36.57 | 99% | ING - TFSA | $11,700.00 | $990.54 | 990.54 | 10,709.46 | 8% | Bank - RRSP | $2,000.00 | $1,893.78 | 1,893.78 | 106.22 | 95% | TOTAL | $20,000.00 | $6,700.20 | 6,700.20 | 13,299.80 |

UPDATE- Here is another update. I didn't sleep well last night. For some reason all I could think about was where I am in my life. I seriously think I am going through a midlife crisis. I'm just not satisfied. Now, don't get me wrong, I know I don't have a lot to complain about but I want better than what I have in pretty much all aspects of my life. And I am tired of being so doggone conservative and cautious. So I decided to take the money out of the holding account and send it to my HSA. I know that is not much but it at least feels like action. I also found a way to move money around and to come up with the new $7,500 minimum daily balance for the rental account. That's temporary though because I am going to find a way out of that account. Sorry for the ramble. Hi all, TGI(almost)F. I know it was only a four-day work week, but I feel like it's been twice as long as a regular week. DH is sick with a nasty cold, and I feel like I haven't been productive lately at all. I am so glad that spring is finally creeping around the corner! Although I don't track it here, we have an outstanding loan that we took to purchase our house, through my DH's retirement accounts. Our goal this entire time has been to pay it back as quickly as humanly possible, and after a few moments of almost being able to pay it off, it will happen on March 9th. DH has to call and set it up, but the entire amount will be paid off, in full, with the next auto-withdrawal on 3/9. I am so excited... not only to have that monthly $145 back in our pockets, but to be able to move on to other priorities! Initially, we were going to pay it off in December, but with the chimney fire and subsequent furnace purchase, we got delayed. The only reason we are able to pay it off now, is because I got a new job, resulting in a small buy-out I received for my unused vacation time from my last position! Once that is over and done with, we are going to turn our attention to paying off our car loan as quickly and as aggressively as possible. If everything goes as planned (hahahahahaaaa......, yeah right), there is a decent chance that we'll be able to meet most of our other savings goals this year as well... just not until the last three months of the year or so. Anyway... I have spent some of the money from our accounts (specifically, insurances), but since I don't have a 'spent' column yet, I'm just tracking it as if it was all still in the bank. I'll make that adjustment for next month's post. Happy almost-Friday, and happy almost-spring!! 2011 Accounts | Goal | 2/1/2012 | 2/23/2012 | Need | Saved | | Insurances | $2,600.00 | $654.45 | $854.57 | $1,745.43 | 32.87% | | Taxes - School | $4,000.00 | $586.35 | $1,126.51 | $2,873.49 | 28.16% | | Taxes - Property | $3,000.00 | $0.00 | $0.00 | $3,000.00 | 0.00% | | Car | $6,500.00 | $501.00 | $1,006.00 | $5,494.00 | 15.48% | | House ER Fund | $3,500.00 | $0.00 | $0.00 | $3,500.00 | 0.00% | | Main ER Fund | $3,300.00 | $0.00 | $0.00 | $3,300.00 | 0.00% | | Vacations | $2,000.00 | $0.00 | $0.00 | $2,000.00 | 0.00% | | SS - College | $2,200.00 | $0.00 | $0.00 | $2,200.00 | 0.00% | | Retirement - Pre-Tax | $17,000.00 | $1,844.02 | $2,915.16 | $14,084.84 | 17.15% | | Total | $44,100.00 | $3,585.82 | $5,902.24 | $38,197.76 | 13.38%

I won my first WIRR race at the end of December (I hail from the West region), and one of my goals for 2012 is to take a stab at the WIRS. I have had several ING savings accounts for a few years and I have done pretty well with them, but I figured it was time to keep myself accountable. So, while I work on WIRR race [2] I will also be working on some savings goals. Here it goes... Fund | Goal | Start | Current | Remaining | % of Goal | EF | $1,000.00 | $207.90 | $207.90 | $792.10 | 20.79% | Car | $1,000.00 | $701.77 | $701.77 | $298.23 | 70.18% | Vacation | $2,000.00 | $356.33 | $356.33 | $1,643.67 | 17.82% | Medical | $500.00 | $272.97 | $272.97 | $227.03 | 54.59% | Pet | $1,000.00 | $0.00 | $0.00 | $1,000.00 | 0.00% | Misc | $500.00 | $96.73 | $96.73 | $403.27 | 19.35% | Totals | $6,000.00 | $1,635.70 | $1,635.70 | $4,364.30 | 27.26%
alpinista 02/23/12 $1,635.70 (Start=$1,635.70 / Goal=$6,000)

Welcome and Congratualtions Alpinista!!! Now that you've won your first race will you be snowballing your 2nd race or sending that to savings? Do you have an ETA for your 2nd race? Not that it's any of our business, we'd just like to get to know ya a bit. ;D Share as much or as little as you're comfortable with.

Thanks for the welcome, Saving4Norway. I’m hoping to win my second race in 2 years. I never did the snowball method with my first race – it didn’t work for me. I have a nice budget that I stick to and put any additional dollars at the end of the month towards my debts. I may move some of that extra money towards my savings goals this year. I actually just updated my savings goals, above. I was looking at my numbers again tonight and had to reduce my savings goals. After some thinking, $13K in savings along with my second race seemed like a huge stretch (and overwhelming) for me. I will most likely still save for my wedding on the side; I just know that I will be spending that money as I’m saving it so I’ll never reach that goal. Hope this helps answer some of your questions. ;D

Welcome alpinista! I will have another $200 to add to my savings with my next pay on 2-29-12 and that will bring me up to $1,500. I am excited about the progress.

Saving4Norway: Thanks for the welcome . My goal in mainly for financial security. I was getting so focused on paying off debt that I forgot how fun it is to put money in savings. When I was younger I would save every penny I could and it really helped through a tight spot when DH was unemployed for 2 years. Before DH was unemployed we did have 25K in savings and I would love to do it again.

Saving4Norwary - We're looking at 10.12.12 or 10.20.12. Nothing has been set yet, we've had a lot of changes in our life within the last few months (new job, moved, etc), so we're just soaking it all in right now. We're also looking at doing a destination wedding up in Whistler, BC or surrounding to keep it small and intimate.

Seahorse: Love the mini goal idea! You will have over 2 dozen roses when you reach them all!! I may try something like this after I get my last cc paid off. Alpinista: Congrats on the engagement! Wishing you the best and brightest future! I may switch gears with my savings and I'm trying to decide what to do. Mr. Cat maintains a larger savings account that I pretend is not there so my savings here is not ALL that we have..it's just mine outside of our joint money that i can use for what I or my daughters want/need. With that being said, I "borrowed" $5,000 from our big account to buy DD#2 a used car in December with the promise that I would treat it like a loan and pay it back. I am paying $450/mo into that account for that purpose. So, I may let this build up and then transfer it back to the car "loan" account and start over. I would really like to have that paid back by the time Mr. Cat returns from Australia in May. So, while it may look like I would be starting over...I would really be transferring it back to another savings account and accomplishing a different goal. I know it's strange but whatever works right?

Happycat yep whatever works! We all have our little things. I happen to have 5 different banks I use with a total of about 12 accts. So I don't happen to think having a parent joint acct that you "borrowed" from and now feel a need to return to full before other goals is in any way weird!

Happy Leap Day! Wow, it's been a while since I had any changes to update! Downside of being paid monthly, I guess. But my next update should include my little tax refund of about $500-700. I'm waiting on an HSA form to be corrected and re-issued. But it's super exciting to get to keep all of my refunds!!
