Thanks mk and startsmart. The funeral isn't until Thursday, but the visitation is on Wednesday and early enough that we can't just leave Wednesday morning and be there on time. So, I guess I'm taking off Tuesday-Friday. UGH. My leave is on a yearly basis and I hate to use almost a week of it in January. I was smart and brought work home this weekend and should have everything that has a deadline done on Monday.

UPDATE:
14/30 NSD - doing OK - I'm too busy at work to spend money
1/10 MOANS
14/15 Restaurant points - I'm going to go past this - one crazy late date and DH & I were both starving - Chik-fil-A was too tempting. I've been doing well taking lunch to work (I don't track eating lunch out at work as restaurant points) but I have a ton of travel the next two weeks - so lots of business breakfasts/lunches/dinners - hard to watch the calories and the cash. And can I just say how much I hate the government per diem in NY?? I always end up paying out of pocket because I can't let folks buy me meals and business meals never happen at McDonald's - per diem doesn't go far.
15/10 blog posts - I had a new blog post every day last week! Four new ones this week! I'm getting in the habit of writing them all on Saturday while DH is at art class.
2/4 "new job" activities - have a meeting on Tuesday that I am super nervous about. Possible outcomes - (1) helps me find a job; (2) tells me I need to stick out this case to get hired in the future; (3) not able to help. The one I really fear is #2 - I'm just not sure I can stand it.
4/8 new books read - finished one that was started and read two others - I need to go back finish the other 2!
I hope everyone is doing OK. As I said before work has been insane - I'm doing about 60 hours a week right now - and not getting paid anything extra. I have enough leave accumulated that I could take off from October 1, 2012 to January 2, 2013 with pay - if I am there that long. That assumes I work no more OT between now and then - which is pretty funny. I actually asked to get OT paid for the first 4 to 6 hours every pay period so I can hire a maid - not sure why DH should do more work or my house should look like hell because of work. We'll see what they say.
Take care everyone!

Ug, so not a teenager anymore. I couldn't sleep last night and the hours just kept ticking by. Finally I got up at 5am and showered but nothin' not even 20 min of sleep.
I'm sorta tired, but more of the physical pit in my stomach like if I don't stop thinking for a few hours I'm going to have a breakdown by the end of the day.
My 8am was cancelled so I'm thinking of sleeping for a few hours until my next client call. I have a busy day for a holiday so I might actually need my brain! Don't know why I didn't sleep, sure it's a combo of getting weird client news, dealing with grandpa, having my family visiting again, dealing with 50 projects at once and having a sore back. Not conducive to sleep.

Update: 10/20 $0 Days. Friday we ran errands and had dinner out. Errands included picking up the goggles that DS needed for racquetball on Saturday. He loved his class and asked if we would sign him up if they do it again. He knows several of the kids in his class as many of them go to his school. Saturday we ran some more errands and picked up so stuff at the thirft store. That's my new favorite place to shop for books. $1 for hardcovers and $0.50 for paperbacks! Can't beat that. Plus the one had this two vintage ashtrays that advertised one of the companies my dad used to own. He owned it for over 20 years and these ashtrays were from around the 40's or 50's. So Father's day gift for my dad is purchased ;D Sunday Miss Pants and I went to see Beauty and the Beast. When I got home I noticed the dryer wasn't working right. Turns out when DH fixed the bearings he put the belt on wrong and it snapped. So I hauled everything up to the laundry mat and DH went in search of a new belt. Found it for less than $5 a Lowe's. DS the kid genius had to show DH how to put it on so it wouldn't break again. That brings us to Monday Hoping this week goes fast. We have family Christmas this weekend with my grandma, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Should be a blast. Muttley- sorry about your loss. Hope you all have a safe drive up there for the visitation and funeral.

10 NS The NS streak continues, I've got an awful head cold now! I could barely sleep last night. I feel like I'm sleep walking today. One of my assistants isn't in the office and hasn't called yet, which is worrisome, it is unlike her not to call. If I don't hear from her in an hour or so I'll call her mom and see if she knows where she is.
Muttley- Hugs and condolences.
Bear- Hope your mom is okay.
Spurby- You are one busy lady, hope the job meeting goes the way you want it to. Out of curiosity if you get another job will you get paid for the accumulated leave?
I know there is more, but I'm not able to focus

dakota - when I leave - if i don't go to another federal job they cash out the annual leave and comp time. except some form of comp time. either way I have over 10 weeks now they would cash out. it would be a nice cushion if i quit.

Update: 8/15 NSDsI wanted to be more involved in this board this month, but here we are halfway through the month and this is only my second post. I think I just need to accept that it's not going to happen. I'm tracking on my own, but I just can't seem to keep up with you guys even though I'm still unemployed. I will keep updating this month but probably won't be involved at all starting next month unless I have a specific question. Job hunting sucks. Honey, I hope you are having better luck that I am. I have submitted 24 job apps without so much as a single call for more info or interview. It's getting to the point that I don't want to go back to work now. My husband and I have always worked opposite schedules, so we have never had a lot of time together. It's been nice to be home with him when he is off. I am working on writing a book now in the hopes that it will be a best seller, and I won't have to go back to work .

Update: 13 NS/CS daysToday was a spend day but most of the spending was planned. But several of the items in the grocery basket were not on the list plus I forgot the coupons at home. muttley -- sorry about your loss. FP -- don't worry about your few posts. No change since last week. Found a reason to spend a little bit of money everyday and not exercise either.
Hoping this week will be better.

14/16 CS/NS
Haven't walked into Target this month at all. I do have a list but we will see if I go or not.
Had a party for DSS on Sunday, hard to believe he is 15. I have been in his life since he was 2. He was actually pleasant. Helped when we asked without a lot of back talk. He is turning into an okay cute kid. I think he likes it here vs his mom's. He made quite a bit of money and actually gave me $60 when I just mentioned putting money into his long term savings. And here I thought all my talking to him was going in on ear and out the other.
Haven't had a lot of time to get out of the house, Dakota I hear ya on the head cold, I was not doing well this weekend but got everything I needed accomplished.
And DS#2 discovered the joys of his closet. So cute his going into it (the boy just figured out how to work round doorknobs) turning the lights on and playing. I had to lock him out of it so he would go to sleep. Felt bad but he has to get up at 6:40 tomorrow morning. Plus it is just a plywood base right now. Tomorrow they finish all the floors including his. YIPPEE!
Hope all are doing well FP it is a really tough job market. DF put out 400 applications and had barely any callbacks. He finally took a job when unemployement ended WAY under paid. Now he is getting $4 an hour more and profit sharing BUT he is still making $60,000 LESS then Sept 2009. I feel for you but at least you are getting that quality hubby time.
Anyone heard from Sapphire lately? Or Honey?

Yesterday turned into a major spend. Over the weekend DH said he found a promising looking truck, so after I got home we went to look at it and took into a mechanic for a once over. They listed 3 things that needed to be fixed, the shop took care of 2 of them last night and gave us $200 off the price for the 3rd. DH said it is something he can replace himself and the part will be about $20. He came in $900 under budget on the truck and that included sales tax, which I was figuring would be in addition to the budget, so YEAH DH. And we still have to sell the old truck, but not expecting much maybe a couple hundred out of it, I can't imagine it is good for anything but scrap. Mini-D was really excited because he got to ride in the truck, the old one leaks every type of fluid imaginable and just never felt safe, so he wasn't allowed to ride, but last night DH put his seat in the truck and took him around the block and he was thrilled. It isn't something he'll do much, but it is an option now.
MK- Yeah on the floors being almost done and DSS behaving.
ners- That is the way it goes some months. Hang in there.
Financial peace- Good Luck with the job hunt. Hope you decide to stick around.

My day feels like it shaping up to be one of those days. On the way to bring DS to school the low tire pressure sensor light came on in my car. Took it to my tire place and they aired up the tire I thought was low (I thought right) and checked the others. Low tire is the same one that was low last week and that I had repaired by a different shop (mine was too busy that day) and it's been slowly leaking ever since. So I have an appointment today for my regular tire shop to look at fixing it again. Then as I am leaving the "bulb position failure" light comes on. Better not be the other front headlight because that baby cost me $80 plus another $80 to have my mechanic install it. Egads this is not my day today! Thinking of going home and crawling back under the covers until spring. Plus my baby registers for his high school classes today. I am not at all amused that he will be off to HS in the fall. He plans to sign up for all the advanced options offered, debate as one elective and this fancy engineering class (that he gets community college credit for) for his other elective. Still trying to close the books for the end of year 2011 at work. Pulling together the last bits and peaces to take to the accountant. My desk at work looks like a tornado hit it.

Update: 6 NS, 8 CS
muttley: So sorry for your loss
startsmart: Hope Grandpa continues to improve
MK: Yay for DSS and DS#2. And even more yay for finished floors
sheila: Hope the day gets better
financialpeace: Do what works for you. You don't have to be involved, but we're here for you.
MIL Update: She has pneumonia, but her knee is looking better. We'll go by to visit tonight
I think the best way to describe my weekend is to go through it day by day Friday: I left work early so we could take the MIL to a doctor's appt. The night staff forgot to tell the day staff she had an appt, and everyone forgot to tell us she had pnuemonia. So, she was not even close to ready to go, and they had her drugged up enough that she couldn't lean forward on her own. Okay, no MD appt. Instead, we took the dog's to the dog park and then went to Olive Garden for dinner- just soup and water for each of us, so with tip we were just over $16. Then on to CostCo for a couple quick items. I ended up getting a nice sweater they had. It fit on one of our CostCo gift cards (with room to spare). Saturday: DH's first day of Saturday classes. I had chores I wanted to get done and then I was supposed to go to a birthday party for a 3y/o. Got chores done, noticed that my little Junebug was not reacting at all when Larry tried to attack her. (Larry attacking June in play is very common, especially right now when they don't get out as often as we'd like.) I tried to give her a treat, and she didn't want to wake up from her nap for that. Given that she's a Beagle, I found that very worrying. I woke her up to go out and do her business, then tried the treat again, thinking maybe she'd just still been too sleepy before. Still no interest in the treat. She goes right back to our room and doesn't even jump up on the bed but huddles under my desk. I notice she's shaking. I call the roomie to see when he'll be home- he's just about to leave work. So, I close Larry up in our room with a pork chew and take June to the vet. I call the 3y/o's mom and cancel. Luckily, my friends understand and the response was- don't even think about it, take care of your dog. She is so not her usual self. Curls up and sleeps the whole ride to the vet. At the vet, she hops up on the bench next to me and stays there, shaking. Barely a sniff in the direction of the kitten being carried by. No interest in greeting other dogs as they come in- though she'll sniff if they come up to her. We go back in the room. She starts panting. Turns out June has a temp so high it tops out their thermometer. She's low on fluids. It's either a really nasty stomach bug or toxicity. She needs to stay overnight. Try calling DH while at the vet, but he doesn't answer. Leave my precious girl there and head home. DH is home by the time I get home. We could head to the party and be late, but we're just not in the right mindset. I make brownies, we watch football, and play a game of Arkham Horror (boardgame) with the roomie. Sunday: I get up and go to my writing critique group. It has started snowing north and east of Seattle on Saturday. Sunday morning there's snow in our neighborhood but not much. The stuff downtown where we meet is more like fluffy rain. I'm the only one who makes it, so I get some writing in and head home. Haven't heard from the vet, so about 11am call to check in. They call back closer to Noon and tell us she can go home around 1pm. It has started snowing and sticking, but it's off an on. We eat lunch and head out. We decide to stop in to see MIL as the SNF is near the vet. We don't stay for long, but long enough for the snow to start sticking in earnest. We head up to the vet and are there 30-45 minutes. June no longer has a fever, there's no intestinal blockage. Labs aren't back yet, but but her on a bland diet for the next few days and she should be fine. Pay the bill. Even with the $80 credit we had, we were arond $560. (Still counts as a CS, because this IS what an EF is for.) Drive home takes us close to an hour, including 26 minutes to go 1.25 miles on the freeway because people don't know how to drive in their lane/all the available lanes in snow. Biggest problem was a merge section. DH thinks we're going to have to abandon the car about a mile downhill from our house, but just as we're getting near the first hill, we see a sand truck head up it. We make it home and stay there. Monday: roads are yucky in the morning, but get better. I have the day off and continue with my MLK day tradition of taking one of my oldest girlfriends out for her birthday. We do pedis and lunch and I buy new shoes for work (that can be worn with slacks or skirts). This was all planned in advance so also a controlled spend. Good day out with my friend was very much needed. Both doggies got boiled chicken and brown rice for dinner and thought it was the best thing ever. Today: Roads are good this morning. Temps are above freezing, but its supposed to keep snowing off and on (not too much accumulation), but everyone is freaking out because tomorrow there's supposed to be like 8 inches. (I'll believe that when I see it.) DH has class today, so I hope the roads won't be too bad, since he drives about 60 miles round trip. Hopefully we'll be able to make it over to see MIL. If the roads are bad tomorrow, I'm just calling it a sick day and not even trying to work from home. Hopefully they'll be okay on Thursday morning for me to make it to the train station to get downtown for our annual all managers' meeting. So that's my world. We're still up and down and up and down.

dakota - Hope you start feeling better.
Muttley - I am glad you are going to see a counselor. It really does help with getting things in perspective and an objective viewpoint on what is and isn't working for you.
And my condolences on the passing of your great uncle.
startsmart - Sorry to hear your grandfather is not doing well.
sheila - I had to laugh at: DS the kid genius had to show DH how to put it on so it wouldn't break again.
financialpeace - Actually, I am not having any better luck than you. Lots of resume and cover letter submissions but so far no calls for even a phone screening. This is the longest I have ever been without a job since I graduated from college.
shanendoah - Sorry to hear about your saga with the dog. I have been there - driving to the all night vet clinic. I would not have been able to go to the party either. Glad she is feeling better.

Honey and FP: When DH and I were out of work (nearly all of 2009) I noticed that was a trend. We would send out resume after resume and receive no response. Not even a generic "thanks for your resume" email. You begin to wonder after a while if they are just ending up in cyberspace somewhere. Sorry you are both having a hard time getting responses to your resumes. I have every faith that something will come along for both of you. Sending you good job hunting luck ju ju. Honey- glad you got a chuckle out of the Boy. I swear that kid keeps us in stitches most days. I just look at him and wonder where the heck he came from. We must have done something right because he has an amazing blend of all of our good qualities. We got his test results for this new standardized test that tests to see if they are on track for the ACTs (like the SATs). He scored in the top 98th percentile in the Nation! Blew us away. He is taking school so seriously this year and has really ambitious plans for next year. Pretty sure Aliens must have our real son MK- was happy to read on fb that you were able to get a new ipad for DS#2. Bet that is a relief. Are the floors nearly done now?

mitten - that's great DSS has been soaking up the knowledge. Sounds like he's turning into a great teenager!
muttley - sorry for your loss. Hope your travels are easy and safe.
start - I've been having a hard time sleeping, myself, due to pain in my shoulder. Yay pain!
dakota - nice job on the truck!
sheila - bad luck with the car! We have a small compressor and we've had to fill all our tires on both cars since it got cold. A common problem when it first gets really cold, apparently. Who knew?
shanen - so glad Junebug is doing better! Boiled chicken and brown rice was always the go-to when my dog growing up was sick. And I'm actually jealous of your snow. We had a few flurries that might have actually been NYC detritus, that's about it. Makes the cold even more annoying if I can't get a snow day out of it! Also glad MIL seems to be doing better. Ridiculous about them not telling you she was sick.
sheila again - wow, go DS on his test! That's great!
So my weekend was pretty low key. Blue got an email Friday afternoon saying "So we're all on board to work all weekend to meet this deadline?" Which was the first he'd heard about working over the weekend. Luckily we had zero plans, but still. He will get comp days, apparently, but if they're not on days I also have off what's the point? It took away our THREE DAY WEEKEND. Grrr. So I cleaned the house, organized my office, did laundry, worked out, cooked dinner, etc, while he plugged away in frustration on his computer. He just got put on this project because they are disorganized, but no one can answer his questions and he's supposed to save the day somehow. I think the project is back on track now, but he was very angsty all weekend lol. I did resist his push for us to order out Sunday night and whipped up pasta with olive oil and garlic with sugar snap peas that was pretty good. Go me! We did get in a poker night Saturday night, and Monday night his folks came over for dinner, which was nice. They brought me a copy of TurboTax, which was nice of them. However, I prefer doing it online so it's stored online and I can be obsessive and check it from any computer. lol. But I'll use the desktop version cause it's free.
I also got a new copy editing test to take for a potential new client. I'd forgotten I emailed them, so that was a nice surprise. And a proofreading test for a current coypediting client. It doesn't pay as well, but I'll take it! I rather enjoy proofreading, to be honest, so it'd be cool to get a few of those projects from time to time.
Two friends of ours just got an offer on a house accepted. It's further east than us on LI, and looking at the house (and the price) and other houses further east has given both Blue and I the "Let's move" bug. Which we can't do for another year, but we will definitely be doing 2013 or 2014. We're running out of space (no garage, no basement, very few closets) even before we have a kid. We love our house so I know it'll be hard to leave it (esp. cause blue proposed in it) but we want more space between houses, bigger backyard for our kids and gardening, and more storage. Please god, more storage! So we'll see. We'll watch the market and get an idea of house prices and areas we want to look. It would only be able to happen if I do succeed at freelancing fulltime or stop working in publishing (no jobs on LI) and move into project management for another industry. So we'll see.
Okay, done, I guess.
OH! I switched to making coffee at work instead of buying. I bought a bunch of french vanilla creamer cups (those little ones) that don't need refrigeration, so I can have french vanilla at work now. And I bought a pretty ceramic mug that looks like the ones the coffee guys give you so that makes it more fun than drinking it out of a small paper cup lol. So, saving money. And I can slowly switch to decaf as needed.

11 NS
Today will be spend. DH is going to register the new truck. (I'm thinking around $150, based on the fact that all three cars were about $500 last time and that is double what the old trucks fees were.) I'm going to the community rec center tonight to go through orientation for the fitness center, then pay for a 6 month membership there, which will be $60.
Hopefully after that our spending will be curtailed for a while.
Shelia= Hope today started better than yesterday. AND WOOHOO on DS's test scores.
Shan= Hope your MIL is better.
Honey & FP- Hugs and hopefully the job search turns up some good leads soon.
Red- That sucks that DH had to unexpectedly work all weekend. Great news on the freelance work. We have the let's move bug too, but nothing in our neighborhood is selling so we are stuck where we are until the market improves a little. (One house on our block is empty and been on the market for 7 months, 2 others have gone up for sale, but were taken off the market without selling.)

dakota - that's certainly a factor, as well. A few houses have sold recently that were on the market for a year or so. I know it'll take a while. The question is, sell first then buy? I'm imagining that's what we'll have to do, which makes me wonder where we go in the meantime...

Need to count up my NSD but I've been doing pretty well after the spendy weekend. My parents are coming up this weekend and we may go out to dinner. It's definitely family week. Today I need to finish ordering the photos for Grandpa's new room and send them to the printer. Mom is going to pick up the pictures and we'll compile everything Friday. Tomorrow is grandpa's AA "sobriety birthday" and if he feels up to it I'll take him to the meeting. Which means moving him and the wheelchair and getting some help lifting him. We usually do okay Then Saturday we have the hospital bed delivered, need to confirm the facility made the changes to the room we requested and then we'll be hanging picture frames, moving in furniture and cleaning up. So so many things to prepare. I'm sleeping a little better but woke up at 2am with horrible cramps and it took an hour for the pain pills to kick in. Of course I just had to laugh when blue eyes started texting me "wake up!" at 6am because he wanted to talk. can't help it, the boy is adorable!

shanen: I had posted earlier but proboards ate it. Every hospital has a patient advocate. So if you disagree with the doctor ask to speak to them. We would have with my grandma had we known they exist.
And yes I took our Ipad to the Apple store and they replaced it for FREE! I am SO relieved. DS#2 was looking for it all week, came home saw it and was in heaven. I really thought we may need to take $550 out of our budget to get a new one.
Sheila: Hope the car wasn't a big deal. The air is out on the van and will cost around $75 to see where the leak is and up to a grand to fix it. Oh and really need to take the truck in and have them see what it wrong, it runs but needs power stearing fluid and something else is wrong. Since we drive it so seldom haven't done much about it.
Start: Hope the cramps let up. yuck.

Yesterday was NS, so I think that brings me to 4 known NS days. I might have others I am forgetting...

We're alive in Seattle. 2 more NSDs in the books, and today will likely be another as I can't imagine driving on the icy roads.
There's more drama with the MIL that I just don't have the energy for right now, but such is life.

MK- car thing isn't a big deal. Just annoying. Had a nail in the tire again so that was $9.50 to have it removed and the tire patched. The message light for the headlight bulb shut off so it could have just been a lose bulb from a bumpy road.
Shanen- sorry to hear that there is more MIL drama. Sending good thoughts you way. We are supposed to be getting your last storm tonight into tomorrow. "they" are claiming anywhere from 4 to 6 inches I guess. Not amused at all. We haven't hardly received more than a dusting this year so I was enjoying this brown winter. Super cold today (subzero temps before you factor in windchill) and now this snow. Yuck.

Yesterday was a spend, I'm trying to decide whether to count today as a CS or a spend. I spent $8 which would be a CS, but DH has to go back to the courthouse tonight to register the truck as he didn't have all the paperwork last night, but he intended to spend the money yesterday.
Anyway I'm all registered for the new gym and will go tonight and at least try to workout. I'm still coughing a bunch so we'll see how long I can go tonight.

ALL; My laptop is dead and buried. It would cost more to fix than to replace so I am replacing it. I could not get any thing off of it so I lost everything. DS did back it up last year so I should be able to get that stuff off of his. I am half way to the price of a new laptop. Just a couple more weeks and I should have it. Hugs going out to those who need them and to everybody else. update; 18 NSD, 2 EOD. It is easy to get NSD's when you go to work and then come straight home. I have gotten rid of 3 boxes of stuff including clothes and papers so I haven't been idle. I also finished 2 sets of dish clothes and am almost finished with my last baby blue shawl. I still have 2 and a half tubs of yarn to work up. I have finished a tub and a half so I am making progress. I went shopping with GF yesterday and used my cash to get some note cards so you all, that I have addresses for, may be getting a note from me soon. Michael's was having sale on just about everything. I also started journaling in earnest again so my writing skills are getting better. My hour is almost up so I will sign off.

3cats - great to see you on here! Sorry to hear about the computer, but that's great that you're halfway saved for a new one. Major bummer losing recent files, but at least you have some backed up. I need to do backups more often... thanks for the reminder!
dakota - I'd count it as a CS since the other money is also planned.

I need to b**** and whine to someone before I explode! Full steam rant ahead!
So Momma Bear has MRSA- and is on her second course of antibiotics and is using it as an excuse to do NOTHING! I am exhausted and cranky. I am trying to get things cleaned up here so I can get the last stuff moved over here and finish stuff up at DGMs- which will be a last minute thing b/c of DB- who was supposed to go see about an apartment today. If this couse of meds doesn't work- she will have to go in th hospital for IV antibiotics. She throws stuff wherever and it drives me nuts! She just sleeps and watches TV and sits in her @$$!
Thank you for allowing me to rant.
I miss you all greatly. I probably have also lost my computer time too. She is using my computer because it is hooked up to the internet and has a larger screen and hangs over my shoulder sometimes when I get online.
HUGS to everyone.
