Totally agree on negotiating on the mattress sale. For some reason the place we went didn't want the business - so we ordered from the W store online. All in our queen size set was 785. Since we stayed at a W we knew what the mattress would be like. Unfortunately no free financing.

They are staples rebates. Most of the time they come back as a check, but some of them may come back as a visa/mc gift card or even a staples gift card. If the option is visa/mc, you may be able to request a check instead. They will give you that information up front though, and most of the rebates can also be submitted online, which is helpful.
I was happy about the staples rewards being available to print online until people started stealing them. I had two separate occasions last year where someone printed the rewards from my account and used them. The first time it happened, staples cancelled my account, set me up with a new one and sent me replacement reward certificates. The second time they sent a replacement as well, but the whole thing was extremely annoying. I don't have any rewards available right now because I'm afraid they'll get stolen and at some point staples will probably stop believing me. I think it's employees that are doing it; I'm not sure how anyone else would be able to access my account, especially two different people in different states. Now they offer an option where you can get your rewards online, or request that they be mailed. I'm going to have them mailed from here on out.

RE: mattress shoppingI can't remember if this has been mentioned, but whatever you decide to buy - NEGOTIATE!! Mattresses have huge mark-ups and I have NEVER bought one without getting the price lowered and/or getting additional items for free (mattress pad). Also, it seems that now days you have to pay for the frame, so if you do need one, again, negotiate! good luck Lena ETA: don't get too excited about them taking the old one away - they ALWAYS do that. As a reference, I got a queen size mattress in Feb '11 for $722.50 (that included delivery, mattress pad, rails, taking away the old one and one other thing I can't remember now). I got it during President's day sale I don't need the old set hauled away. I'm selling it since it's only 6 months old. I was just posting all parts of the deal cuz Freesalsa said she was also in the market and asked me to post what kind of deals I found. Thanks for the info though. Yeah, I bought a set this spring for under $500 delivered...it's a POS though. Mattresses are one of those things you really can't cheap out on. A comfortable nights sleep is worth spending a little extra IMHO. I've been thinking about it today and I may even go down to a full size. I used to have one, until the ex moved in, then had to go up to a queen. Now that it's just me and the dogs, I probably could go back to a full. It'd definitely give me a little more space in my bedroom. I live in a small ranch with tiny bedrooms. I have a queen in the guest bedroom, so, if I really needed to, I could swap out the full and queen...

So happy with a new CVS. After searching for the elusive clearances pantene all week, I decided to suck it up and buy some last night since Q was expiring. They had signs that start today. Even better. So I buy 9 and have my $3/2 Qs all set for gift card. Only they ring full price. Cashier says she'll manually input $6 additional discount for me because heir store usually turns on deals Saturday afternoon but boss skipped early for holiday. Cool. Ring it all bc she says even though ringing full price the gift card will still print. But it didn't.
So cashier refunds cash I paid and gives me gift card for my Qs - for the ones I gave her AND the ones she manually put "for the inconvenience. "
Between that customer service and the fact that they turn on their sales Saturday night, I have found my new favorite store.

I have one store that acts like this. The other 2, I can't even call to confirm stock they are so huffy and unhelpful. I did this deal, too, I just ended up buying 8 Pantenes and 4 Dawn Hand Renewals: 3.33 x 8 Pantenes 26.64 .99 x 4 Dawn HR 3.96 Total 30.60 Minus 5.00/$25 Minus 12.00 ($3/2 x 4) Minus 2.00 ( .50 x 4) Minus 4.00 EB (from H&S) Minus 1.00 EB from quarterly spending OOP 6.60 + tax and got back the $10 GC

leanna - just responding to your question above from the December thread. When you buy the item(s), you'll need to scan your Staples Rewards card. If you don't have one, you can get one in the store for free. I haven't bought anything at Staples in a while so I don't remember exactly how long it takes, but I want to say it takes about 3-4 weeks to get the reward. They used to mail them out, but now they get put in your account online and they'll email you when they're ready. You just print out the reward and use it on whatever else you want to purchase. I love it when they put out some free after rebate items when I have rewards to use up, but that happens infrequently. The one fly in the ointment with Staples is that if you use Staples Rewards to pay for an item that produces Staples Rewards, it reduces the amount of rewards you get back. So let's say you had a $5 reward to use and bought an item that was $10 and was supposed to give you $10 rewards. You'd only get back $5 because you used $5 to pay. So stupid. But you can use rewards to buy rebate items without a problem. Or you could use them on ink or whatever else you wanted to buy. ;D [glow=red,2,300]Happy New Year everyone! [/glow] Thanks Sue - I appreciate you answering my question! Sounds like it will work for what I want to do. Kind of like rolling at Wags or RA.

But the term coupon fraud made me think about the Zyrtec coupon I was planning on using today. Yesterday I used the self-check machine to see if it would take the $2 IP that was for any size other than the trial size and it worked. I assumed it would also work on the $4 IP (I didn't have it with me at the time) for the 45? ct or higher size and was planning to try it when I read this question. I looked at the coupons again and decided not to use the $4, since it was clearly for the wrong size. But I did use the $2 cpn because it said any size but the trial size. The 5 ct. I bought very well could be the trial size but how do I know that there isn't a smaller size, like in one of those fancy tubes or 2-pill packets like the aspirin comes in? And it didn't say it was the trial size, so I figured it was ok. I really wanted the $4 MM but settled for $2. I also use two cards sometimes, one for me and one for DH, who was his own household until recently. I don't think I've ever cleared a shelf, probably because I've never had enough coupons to do it! FreeSalsa - My opinion on the trial size issue is this: If a box or product is not clearly marked trial/travel size or it is not found in the travel/trial size section of a store, then it is NOT trial size. We, as consumers, should not have to decide what a trial size is. We all know that sometimes a trial size is 1 pill and sometimes it's 10 of an item. It's really up to the manufacturer. So, you don't have to take on that responsibility. Congratulations on the deal!

I also received only 3 inserts. Interesting. It was reported that P&G would come last Sunday and it didn't. Maybe next weekend is going to be the big insert weekend instead of this one. I wonder what is going on regarding the misinformation on the internet.

I wonder what is going on regarding the misinformation on the internet. Madcoupons had 2 SS, 1 RP and 1 P&G to sell. So she had to get what was quoted on the internet. Unfortunately, she didn't get enough P&Gs to sell the full set of inserts to anyone but her monthly subscribers, and since I really wanted the P&G, I went looking on ebay for some other insert supplier, but I didn't find anyone listing more that 1 SS, weird, huh?

I checked the other cities paper when I went to the store it had an RP, SS, and small other insert, with nestle, kellogg's, but NO P&G. My delivered paper had the P&G, RP, SS. I wasn't going to pay 1.75 for the other paper with no P&G, so I bought a cheap NYC paper, 1.25, that had the P&G and RP, but no SS. Ridiculous...

Only got 3 inserts in my paper today, and they suck...I'll check the other paper when I go to the grocery store, but definitely not worth spending 1.75 for extra papers today...what a huge let down...I know I live in LOCC, but this is ridiculous. Ok, it's not just me then. I thought there were 5 inserts but I only got 4. I thought I might make a big list for trading but there wasn't much that I wanted. I'll probably just get a few of the local paper for $1. Last year it had the Finish coupons, which is really about all I'm after this week. Disappointing.

Vons/Safeway has a 3-day New Year's sale. RR New York Strip Steak, bone in is $3.97/lb. in a value pack. I have to ask DH if this is the one he likes, if it is, this is a better price than he got last time, so it might be good. Though knowing Vons, it's probably not. Based also on their lobster and chicken breast prices, which are high, it's probably not, but we'll see.
Is Pantene really that good?

Re mattresses: DH and I bit the bullet and bought a new mattress set two years ago. The President's day sales are usually a good time to go. We bought a queen size temperpedic and absolutely love it. They gave us the two free memory foam pillow. For some reason, I don't like them and still am using my down pillow. DH uses the memory foam one but has no opinion one way or the other.
The absolute BEST thing about the mattress is not feeliing when your spouse moves, gets up or gets into bed. My DH is a bit of a restless sleeper and used to always wake me up. Now he tosses less (he says), but even if he does, I don't sense it.
These are not inexpensive mattresses but they usually have 0% financing for 1 or two years. That's what we did (use their money, right!) and paid it off before that promo period ended. This is by far the most comfortable mattress we've ever had.
Happy New Year everyone.

I got 4 inserts - P&G, (2) SS's and (1) RP. Using the RP insert right away - yesterday on Nivea lip balm, and tomorrow on L'oreal and Centrum (maybe) at RA.
P&G had the good $2/1 Tide q, BUT there is now the restriction on it "no trial size."

Pantene is a good shampoo, but I don't use the conditioner, I use a low sulfate salon conditioner, I just can't use the salon shampoo, too, I get too much build up. Plus, I need shampoo for my DH and son, I just got them the Pantene "clean" shampoo.

Anyone printed the Kashi coupons off from coupons.com? All other coupons I printed has got 3 sets of barcode (1 below the expiration date and the other 2 at bottom of coupon). However, the Kashi coupons is missing 1 barcode at bottom of coupon. Does anyone know if what does this mean and if this is a valid coupon or not?

I checked the Indy paper and our local paper - the Indy one had a SS, the local paper had SS, RP, and the P&G insert.

If you did the Starbucks MIR from the Target deal a few weeks ago, and chose e-delivery, check your email. Mine arrived already and I just mailed it about 2 weeks ago!

Hi Everyone!
Happy New Year! I am putting my $8.00 (20) lb. Jenny O turkey in the oven. I remember buying it back in November from Fresh N Easy, without a minimum purchase.
Dinner is going to be the turkey, mashed potatoes, and green beans from WINCO.
I used all of my EB's that expired on 12/25 from Black Friday on a Physicians Formula deal that you buy $10.00 and get a $5.00 EB in return. My EB's were slightly expired (1 day), but the manager put them through the register. I also had a few old $4.00 peelies that I used to help out.
There are make-up markdowns.. I spied some for 75% off at CVS. If you have coupons, it could be good.
The P and G flier has a coupon for $3.00 off of 2 Pantene. Anyone see any markdowns for this anywhere?
I will admit that I have 4 CVS cards, one for every member of my family, including me.
I just have been focusing on my health lately, so the coupons have not been purchased for awhile (at least 4-6 months) I have been relying on the goodness of family, friends, and neighbors to give me the free coupons.
This year I haven't saved as much, but I think that the "bad press" from the coupons shows kind of slowed down our "deals." Not to be deterred, 2012 is a New Year, and maybe the manufacturers and stores will actually want more business.
Also, I hope people will tire of the coupon shows and not be so negative about what we do, LOL.
I still have a half of a garage full of stuff, but my stock is slowly decreasing. I has been nice to have it ready and has still contributed to my savings balance.
I will try to get more into this in 2012, provided that the stores are cooperative!
In the meantime, I will vow to cut back on wasteful fresh food buying...ever throw away lettuce and veggies, meats and milk?
I have to be more careful with the foods I do buy. I want to try to make a meal with each fresh item, or cook and freeze.
You are all people to be admired. You have taught me so much about having a little and living on it well; or some of you are fairly "well off," but choose to be frugal to save for future goals or retirement.
Good for all of you, you sweet, kind people.
This "Mantra Quote" was from a free shopping bag from an expensive active clothing store, Lululemon: Not that I can afford to shop there, LOL.
"Write down your short and long-term goals four times a year. Two personal, two business and two health goals for the next 1, 5, and 10 years. Goal setting triggers your subconscious computer."
Interesting thought. Something I even have not done. Maybe some of you want to try. If you want, please share your goals with us.
Take care and continue to be frugal, but care for the most important people in your world. You and yours.
Happy New Year.

Fortunately I am in Bakersfield, Ca this week and picked up a LA Times newspaper and it had some goodies in it ;D!!! This was my shopping trip..I bought 4 LA times for $8 First I did this 4 Nivea lip balms for $10 less (2) $3/2 Qs oh yeah the red machine spit out a CVS $.50 EB too = $4 + tax Nothing OOP because I used a free GC that had around $6 on it. Then I got a $5 EB back for this purchase. CVS here has Pantene on sale for $2.99 instead of $3.33 and dawn was $.88 instead of $.99 ;D ;D 8 bottles of Pantene products $23.92 7 bottles of Dawn 6.16 = $30.08 less (4) $3/2 pantene Q less (7) .50/1 dawn Q less $5 EB less $2 GC my total came to $13.xx plus a $10 CVS GC!!! So basically, I got all that stuff for around $2!!! score!!DH was very proud happy new year!

Basic CVS question - I have a 5/25 coupon (loaded on card) and $1 EB and some manufacturers coupon. Is there a "right" order to give them to the cashier? Card first then coupons? Thanks
ETA = 2nd basic question - I have the two covergirl coupons - $1/1 and $2.50/2 and the sale is buy 1 get 50% off 1. How many products do I need to buy to use both coupons? 3 or 2? Thanks again

Thanks again When I don't load the 5/25 on my card, I give it first, then EBs, then coupons, but the last two don't really matter unless you are getting close on the tax and you know you have enough EBs and MCs to cut into the tax. Some registers will still allow it and some won't. My newest CVS, which you would think had the most up to date computers, will allow MCs to cut into tax, but EBs will beep and ask the cashier to adjust the amount of the EB down. Clear as mud, huh? In regard to the coupon question, 3 products to use those 2 coupons.

Suziq: It's good hearing from you again!
Rite Aid: I got the Vanilla Visa card and was stumped on how to put together any useful scenario afterwards. I did get the Colgate since that was free, and Advil since that was cheap and what we use here at home. My UPs don't expire until next month so I'm thinking of taking a break. I have $18.00 on a giftcard and $21.00 in UPs. I need to see what we really need here at home. I am thankful I have CVS giftcards too. I don't need to worry about them expiring.
I did my end of the year calculations and saved less than I did the year before, but not by a whole lot. Rite Aid did pay me $150.00 to purchase a whole lot last year due to the SCR program. I hope they don't fade out their rebates this year.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!! My papers were a mixed bag. There were 4 inserts this weekend. I got the RP, P&G plus 2 SS's. But I only got 2 different ones tops per paper plus the RP that was mailed. The strangest part is even the same inserts don't have the same coupons in them. One papers coupons is even crappier than the others. In all three papers I didn't get even one of the Finish or Nivea coupons. I am thinking of sitting this week out at CVS. I only have the pantene coupons. The only thing we need is the heat protetection but CVS doesn't seem to sell it. It just doesn't seem worth is since I would have to pay $16+tax to get 8 shampoos I don't need to get a $10 GC. I really wanted to do the Finish deal next week but I didn't get any coupons for it in any of my papers so that is probably out too. > I guess I should stop whining and be thankful for everything I already have.

A few questions, if you gals don't mind:
1. For those who buy coupons - how do you know it's worth it? Do you factor the cost into figuring out the total end price of the product?
2. Someone mentioned saving xxx amt in 2011 - how did you figure that? I want to be super diligent this year about our food budget, but am not sure how will I be able to determine regular savings from simply not buying as much vs savings due to coupons/watching prices, etc etc
Thanks Lena

A few questions, if you gals don't mind: 1. For those who buy coupons - how do you know it's worth it? Do you factor the cost into figuring out the total end price of the product? Thanks Lena For me, it's about if the coupons are for things I need, not just to "do a deal" (even if it's a MM) and if I will get more from the coupons than what I pay for them. For example: I am getting low on dishwashing detergent. I am not brand loyal, and this week's inserts included a 2.15/1 manufacturer's coupon for Finish dishwasher detergent, which will make for free detergent next week at CVS and probably the other drugstores, too as they have this sale every year. I was able to buy 20 of these coupons off ebay for $3.75 which is less than the price of 2 coupons. So I will be able to get 18 boxes of dishwasher detergent (enough for a year, even with me sharing a few w/ someone I know who is having financial difficulties) for free or close to it + tax. Those coupons were definitely worth the purchase. I do the same kind of analysis with purchasing whole inserts of coupons. I went ahead and bought a whole set of 10 inserts from madcoupons plus a clearanced set of 12/11 inserts, and I looked at the coupons she offered plus the fact I will get combined shipping, and I know I will use many coupons for things that I need like dogfood at Target this week using the 12/11 TC for $5/2 Purina products, the flinstone vitamins coupons in this weeks inserts (none in my area's inserts), the nivea coupons (again none in my inserts), and several others. This is the first time I have bought inserts from her since 10/16, it just hasn't been worth the expense. HTH
