HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! On behalf of Suzi Q and all of the gals here, WELCOME, WELCOME, WELCOME to the Grocery Challenge from me - dancinmama!! ;D If you have never clipped a coupon, or even if you have been using coupons for years, we'd love to have you join us. We are a crazy, fun-loving, and very friendly group of gals just chatting with one another about how to save big money using coupons. We are willing to help anyone, at any level, in any way that we can. Don't think that you have to read through the pages and pages of posts to join in - most of it will be old, out-of-date information anyway. Just go to the last page of the thread and introduce yourself. Tell us what area of the country you're from and where you shop (grocery stores, national chain stores, Target, WalMart, etc.). We'd love to have you join us on a regular basis, so don't be shy - just jump right in, have some fun, and save a ton of money in the process!! NEWBIES/OLDIES: If you post a HOUND ALERT requesting coupons from others, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE also post which insert/where the coupon can be found (Example: 1/2 SS) so that we can find it easily without having to research it ourselves. ALSO, if you need the coupon for a specific deal, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE try to remember to post the deal with your HOUND ALERT so that someone who may have the coupon(s) can decide whether they want/need to do the deal before sending out any of their coupons. THANKS!! POSTING ABOUT A DEAL / HOT COUPON: Some people get overwhelmed by the number of posts and only have time to skim the posts for the information that they need the most. If you are posting a deal, please post something that makes it stand out like "CVS DEAL ALERT" or if you are posting to tell us that there is a new, hot coupon available, please post something like "$3/1 WHOLLY GUACAMOLE IP ALERT". We want to make this thread as fun, friendly, and helpful as possible. These suggestions will save EVERYONE a lot of time when they are trying to "catch up" and read through past posts. Now let's have some fun!!

Happy new year to everyone. I just finished working on my MQ savings for the year and i came in with $3200. I started the year well, and then took a few breaks as i got on with life and stuff. I am happy to finish with $3200, 4 years ago it was close to zero. That's is a big difference for me. My cupboards a pretty well stocked as i go into the new year. I managed to replace some of my stockpile that i was living on while taking a break. It was easier than i thought it would be. The price increases have been noticeable this year. But PA is way cheaper than Las Vegas for grocery shopping. I recently found a Giant store that double's a .75 to $1.50 right near my job, so i will have to start shopping there and the great thing is i drive right past it everyday. Food is the thing i am trying to get ahead on so i haven't done much in the drugstores. I did notice that they started giving free things that i had no use for and as gas is still high i sat out many deals like some of you on here. Here's hoping for a great 2012 coupon wise and health wise. ;D

Wow, what I wouldn't give for a store that doubles coupons. I'd be thrilled with $.50 doubling to $1, but $.75 doubling to $1.50 is amazing. Looking for those rock bottom prices is going to be like a treasure hunt for you. Check in from time to time when you can and let us know how it goes at the new store.

Responding to discussion from December thread about coupon fraud: Using a just expired coupon by accident is way different than using a coupon with the expiration date cut off. The coupon without the expiration date will not be reimbursed at the clearing house level, because it was altered it will be automatically deemed "invalid for reimbursement" so no money back to the store for the $3 snuggle coupon. The "oops didn't check the expiration date" use of a coupon that is expired will usually get reimbursed as long as it makes it to the clearing house within 6 months of the date for domestic stores, 12 months for foreign commissaries. Buying coupons: just the other day I was pointing out the wording on the Finish coupon and how the "legalistic" interpretation of the comma will help us use it at CVS, and these ladies on ebay perform the same legalistic interpretation, by us paying them for their time to find, sort, list and ship the inserts. I buy coupons a lot because our coupons are terrible, and I would miss many deals if I did not. I can't equate this activity with using a 2 year old $3 coupon with the expiration date cut off. Judging by the comments on that blog, many people can. For myself, I can't equate stealing $3 with buying coupons, but that's JMHO.

The one that bothered me was one of the blogs suggesting that people take advantage of a refund if not satisfied kind of thing... I think it's wrong to send in for that on a product that you use and will continue to use.

thanks DM! do you know what is in this week? Someone posted a link to the actual list on December's thread, but I couldn't find it. As far as I know (1) P&G, (2) SS, and (1) RP.

The one that bothered me was one of the blogs suggesting that people take advantage of a refund if not satisfied kind of thing... I think it's wrong to send in for that on a product that you use and will continue to use. Yeah, I have never tried that either. Unfortunately, if I do find a product that I don't like there seems to never by a "money back guarantee" rebate. lol I have also drawn the line for myself in using coupons in "families." IOW, you can take a manufacturer's coupon for diapers and use it on the same manufacturer's wipes, because usually the diaper coupon value is higher than the wipes coupon value ($1 compare to .50). I did try this a couple of times when I first started couponing 3 years ago, but I never felt good about it, so I don't ever try that anymore. And now, with TLC showing folks like Jaime doing it so blatantly, we have earned ourselves a new barcode on a lot of coupons (centrum and axe recently) that won't scan at RA and my local grocer....fun times.

Some would say having more than one CVS card in a household is "bad" too. I have a key chain copy of my mom's card and shop for her frequently since I'm the one with all the coupons. IF she is not going to get a product that I would like to get, I go get it rather than asking her to get it for me.
Anyone who wanted to be legalistic would say that I should only use my own card; but I feel that if I'm shopping for other people, I should not have to use my own card to do it. I suppose I could mail the coupons to my 86 year-old mom and make her do her own darn shopping and on occasion, have her pick up something extra for me, but that just seems silly to me since the end result is the same. My CVS knows that I shop for her and doesn't have a problem with it.

I didn't read the discussion on the other blog, but I can get the gist from what you all were talking about.
Most of us buy coupons. After all, my Sunday paper is not free! So the whole resale of coupons being unethical is silly. Just about anything you can imagine can be resold - books, clothes, electronics. If the person is illegally obtaining them, then they need to be prosecuted. But if they've obtained them legally, there's nothing wrong with buying them. That's my 2 cents on that.
Yup, MissPT, buying things that match up by barcode versus wording is unethical and improper use of couponing. However, the new bar coding has been in the works for many years, far prior to the Jaime EC incident. It just happened to finally roll out at around the same time. However, new coupon policies and clerks hating on couponers - well, definitely, I think that's a result of more people couponing.

I do wonder at the timing, though, of the new barcodes, especially since it managed to come around at the same time as P&G started limiting like coupons to 4 and P&G was one of the big families that people abused like using high value Tide coupons on toothpaste, etc.. I am sure it took a while to plan and implement it, but the roll out time is interesting.

The woman in the story on the blog, BTW, was using coupons from the last two years that were very high value, with the expiration dates cut off.

But the tax system and legal system are full of loopholes, so until the loophole is closed, there is nothing illegal about it on either the buyer or sellers' side from what I can see.

Realistically how could that happen without the cashier knowing/realizing that it was occurring... unless they're smoking something or in on it?

Yes, that whole disclaimer they put on their ads is obviously to get around the wording on the coupons. But I think it's really silly for a company to say "you can't re-sell this." Anything that is purchased new can be resold, with the exception of prescription meds - that's illegal.

I have 2 cards, one for me, one for my business (to buy cokes, bottled water, and the discount candy for my candy jars), and I know a lot of folks carry several. I get frustrated with some folks in my town where there is only 2 CVS, and they clear the shelves using their multiple cards (10-15 tides during the sale in November), but I've learned to get there before them, lol...

I saw a woman clear all the Theraflu single packs at CVS on Thanksgiving night in anticipation of the Black Friday sales (24 hr. store). At first, I wondered why because the EB limit was (1) per card; but then I realized that she had coupons that made them free, so she didn't care about all the EBs. I didn't really care about getting a single pack of Theraflu, but I was disappointed to see what she had done. Most of the other items in the store were really well stocked, but for some reason that one was not. ETA: Then again, when I went into CVS for the Head & Shoulders there were (4) on the shelf and I bought all of them , but I DID do it using one card. ;D

Just got home from shopping, at target at 9 am and they were 70% off Xmas. Went to WM and they were still 50% except some bath and body sets at 75%...total waste. Ran to the cvs in the mall and they had a bunch of the Head and Shoulders, but I only bought 3. Didn't have any small EB's so didn't bother with any more. I found one more coupon this morning to use.

ETA: Then again, when I went into CVS for the Head & Shoulders there were (4) on the shelf and I bought all of them , but I DID do it using one card. ;D I bought 6 of the H&S that were on clearance, in one store, and 4+2 in other stores on DH's card, and cleared them out. Truthfully, I think clearance is fair game anyway. I just wanted to admit that I too have cleared a shelf a time or two in my day. My best was when Crest Pro Health was on clearance at WAGs for $.99. I had $1 coupons and each tube was giving a $1 RR (I never did figure out why). I bought all (19) of those suckers!! ;D

Ok so now I have a question. While looking for a WINN DIXIE near me I found their online coupons, there was a $1/ICBINB could I have used that at PUBLIX for the recent 2/$5 ICBINB, I checked to see and it was cheaper than I buy it a Walmart and that particular time (DEC 18th) so in theory the WINN DIXIE coupon as used, I get ICBINB at 2/$4 making it even less expensive? ? Is this the name of the game? We always buy ICBINB and it is the only margarine we use. Am I getting it or am I off the mark as they are not the same store?
