I don't have a Fry Daddy either. And I love fried okra and creamed corn. I was born up north and raised mostly in Florida so I have a good mix. I can relate to all of you.

I prefer to live in the south because I hate cold weather, but I still cook like a northerner. My stomach just can't handle most fried foods. I never fry anything. If I want "fried" chicken, I use a recipe for baked "fried" chicken.

I cannot eat okra unless it's fried.
And I love homemade creamed corn: freshly cut kernels, gently steamed, then cooked down with butter and cream and a little bit of cheese to bind the mix together. A pinch of salt and white pepper. And of course, you can use it in a three-corn casserole: fresh kernels, creamed corn and cornbread, combined and baked together.

WTH is that mess!?!?!?! Creamed corn requires you to take a scraper (even if I could find a picture, I doubt I could post it. picture a long metal or wood utensil about 4 inches wide, with a concave shape with teeth set in the center to scrape off all kernels) to a billion ears of corn, then put a little water in it if you didn't get much liquid from the corn (not usually a problem) add as much salt, pepper and butter as you can stand then cook it until the spoon will stand up in it. You don't add a bunch of crap, it's perfect the way it is. ;D

Hi POM!!! I've got a bit left to go on my scanner shift, and it's quiet right now, so I hopped on. I've never had okra. What does it taste like?

Hey kgb! Okra by itself is a bit slimy feeling but with a nice mild flavor. With a crunchy fried coating it tastes really good! But it has to be done right. It has almost a buttery flavor to it. Or to me it does. Taste is very hard to describe! LOL! I got your email and responded. Did you get it? That baby girl of yours is just gorgeous! Like her momma.

I did get your e-mail. You're too kind. Slimy doesn't sound good. I would definitely have to have it fried. There's not a lot of okra on the menus in western PA. As a matter of fact, I was just recently lamenting the fact that my favorite barbecue place went out of business, and now we have nowhere around here to get really good barbecue.

I wonder if my FIL has ever made okra. He's a really amazing cook. He makes things that I would pay good money to eat in restaurants. I'll have to put in a request. 20 more minutes until I can get out of here. It's so long past my bedtime. I seriously go to bed around 9:30 these days. DD is spending the night at my MIL's since DH is working midnight. I should get a good night of sleep tonight, and I'll go visit her at my MIL's before I go to work in the morning.
