Thanks Sharon! It's just been along day. I did go to the nursing home today, and one of the hospice nurses was there, so I asked a few questions. The problem is, no one really knows how long this could go. Days? Weeks? No one really can guess at this point. I tried to do something that I'd postponed. Speedy needs his nails trimmed, and is overdue by a week or two to get it done. I called Pet not-so-Smart to get him in. They apparently don't take appointments anymore for nail trims, so we had to wait. And wait, and wait. I didn't leave there until an hour and 1/2 later, and they didn't trim his front paws because he snapped at them. After making us wait so long, I'm not surprised he was getting testy. So was I. Won't be going there anytime soon, as their new "system" of first-come, first-served just won't work when your dog is nervous going to the groomers. I need a nap, but the day is almost over, so I'll just try to turn in early tonight. Hoping tomorrow will be better.

Well sh*t. I'm glad I had one day that was peaceful. Gotta run down to the nursing home. Relative has a very high fever & has told the doctor he doesn't want to go back to the hospital. Tough, but I understand his POV. I hope it all goes as he wants and is not too hard on you.

It seems like I've heard a LOT of people say things are different at Petsmart, in their grooming and health care areas, in the last 2 weeks and they won't be going back, would be an understatement! And I don't even go there. I haven't been to one of their stores in years. Yet in 2 weeks, I've heard and read a lot of negative comments about them. Whatever changes they've made, do not appear to be good ones. And they don't seem to be local either. I'm sorry the two of you went through this.

As time progresses, hospice will have a better idea on timing but they will never be able to tell you it will be 2 hours. It's so hard.

Good Afternoon Kids! I found a neighborhood dog groomer, and taking in the dogs one at a time, got both of their nails trimmed. I explained the bad experience that Speedy had at the other place, and they were willing to give him a try. And, I told them to go ahead & muzzle him if he was getting anxious. At the other place, there was a dog that was crying while being groomed, and the groomer was yelling at the poor dog. This new place uses positive reinforcement, and it worked well with Speedy, although his anxiety DID require a muzzle. But, he got through it, got lots of pets & treats so hopefully the next time we go back he'll do better. I still have to get to the nursing home, but will go in the late afternoon. I think DS & I are doing a fast food dinner. Arby's anyone?

Next week I will find out how Maddow does with the car, shots and nail trimming. He bites me so we shall see how it goes with the vet.
I really don't want to pay to take them to the vet every 6 weeks or so to get their nails trimmed.

I'm so glad you were able to find someplace close and understanding, to take your dogs to.

Good Afternoon Kids! Sorry I haven't posted much, but hospice has kept me busy. My phone won't stop ringing, but I'm afraid if I don't answer a call I'll miss something important. This is my first experience with hospice, and the "patient" keeps getting a high fever, and they knock it down by running a fan on him, cold compresses, Advil, etc. They claim he won't die today, but say they've been surprised before, so, we wait... (And yes, I try to get over to see him every day. However, today I've got stuff that can't be postponed anymore. I'm trying to do my best. There's no easy way to die, is there?) Sorry this post is such a bummer. Later!

There is no easy way to die busymom That is why I have written my own obit and it doesn't say I died peacefully. I have watched people die. The process is not peaceful in the least.

Glad the week is over. No real rain during the rainy season -- my lawn is downright toasted.
Heated a chicken pot pie that was on sale yesterday and roasted some Brussels sprouts. Both were good.

Today is the final push to get ready to leave for a week. I regret making these plans. Four days is usually my max with Mom and this will be eight days, bookended with at least seven hours of driving on both Sundays.

I'm sorry. Your trip sounds like the way I felt when I drove my sister to Toronto. I was already uncomfortable and then she announced she would not be paying for any of the cost for getting there. It went downhill from there.

Afternoon it is, my peeps. DH and I had a rough night, gastrointestinally speaking. Might have been the pot pie or the sprouts. Not sure but I got rid of both leftovers. I did have a bagel and egg this morning and I am starting to feel better. DH is still on prune juice and Gatorade. I am doing some retirement homework and finalizing at least the first half of the race season (through December). I have a swim meet next weekend, so won't be here much.

Dang the bees around here are starting to get aggressive, I guess fall is coming. DGD got stung at the beginning of the week, DD said she got stung yesterday, and I just got stung at least twice, if not three times today. Once on the face and once or twice on the arm, not exactly sure on the arm. They were wasps and it hurts like the dickens. I'm so beautiful walking around with baking soda plastered to my face but it does take the sting out. I didn't even do anything to provoke them other than apparently walk into their space. I was just adding some chemicals to the pool and boom they didn't like that one bit.

I checked in with the nursing staff. He did eat a good breakfast today, but didn't eat much lunch. His last stint at the hospital really took a lot out of him. I do know from personal experience that you really don't get good sleep while at a hospital. I really hate it when they wake you in the middle of the night, because they need a blood draw, or something stupid. IMHO, the patients would do better if you just let them get a good night's sleep.

I feel the same way about getting no sleep in hospitals.
In 1999, I was hospitalized for a month after surgery. Lots of complications afterward. So only drugged sleep and that isn't restful sleep. I was told they do all of those things in the night so they are ready for the doctors to do rounds early in the morning. Why did they get me up in the middle of the night to weigh me? I never understood.
Fast forward to 4 years ago. We now have hospitalists who come at any time of day. They still weighed me in the middle of the night and did blood draws at about 5 AM.
I don't understand.
I remember in 1999, my personal doctor stopped by and told me I had to get better so I could get out of there because hospitals are full of germs and sick people. The longer you are there, the more you are exposed to.

I agree. Getting sleep at a hospital is almost impossible. Then when you finally do get to sleep, they wake you up, for some silly reason. The idea that I can't get comfy because I have to have the oxygen meter on my finger, seems ridiculous. It's so annoying.

I found a good trail for running close to home, so I did not need to drive a few towns over this morning. Good thing, since I slept in a bit too long. I cooked oatmeal this morning for a change for breakfast, instead of eggs, waffles, pancakes, etc. DH ate all of his -- a good sign, as his appetite has been pretty bad the last two days. I had mine with fresh blueberries and a bit of brown sugar. Our blueberries at this time of year come from Canada. Thanks to our northern neighbors! They are very good and well-priced. We have local berries in the fall/winter, but it is way too hot here now for anything to grow. My garden, except for the citrus trees, is trashed. I am doing laundry at the moment, and may mow the back lawn if it clouds up this afternoon. We are expecting rain later.

Did the laundry and a simple spaghetti dinner. Enough leftovers for me for pretty much all week. Added a few races to the calendar. Trying to decide whether or not to race in Islamorada in December. Hotels are pricey, but the whole setting looks so awesome.

Well, Kids, I got "that" phone call today. My relative died, and no one saw it coming so quickly. I did race down there, and helped clean out his room, and waited with him until the funeral home came to pick him up. This week is going to be about working with the funeral home, and hoping the wait isn't long to get him into the military cemetery.
