I've seen it brought up a few times that some posters feel others are spamming the board, while others consider it free speech. Where do you think the line is between spamming a board and free speech?

Where do you think the line is between spamming a board and free speech? The exact same message on multiple threads or starting multiple threads with the same message would be spamming in my mind. Making the same point with different messages on multiple threads (when more or less on topic) is free speech. Starting multiple threads with different messages but making the same point is boring but still free speech. I feel comfortable with the moderators making the call of locking down a thread if they feel it is just too close to the topic of another thread but I hope they do it rarely. It is not that big of a deal. We all basically know what is happening with the start of threads. I know when to stop posting on a thread, with the desire to see it slide down the page and into history.

On the topics page, go down the "started by" column and you will see a couple names repeated more than others. They would be good ones to start with on who might be the ones talked about here.

Incessant posting of the works of another is not exercising your rights to free speech. This is also a private mssg board where, BTW, you have no rights to free speech. You may be censored, cut off, deleted, banned, or abridged at any time.

I like your explanation, truthfully I get confused on definition of spamming at times, your above makes sense to me. I believe I know who the thread is aimed at , however, whether one likes the mesage being posted, at least it is a mssage one can have a issue with and bring up arguments against, the purpose of this zone actually, discussions and debate, correct? Better that then from the past .."XXXXX is a Dodo bird , because i say so "..better XXXXX is a Dodo bird because of the following five reasons..." IMHO---your post

There is an implicit comment when you post someone else's words. It is "I think this is of value and you should read it." That is an exercise of free speech.
There is a fine line. We retain the "right" to free speech here. That right can not be taken away. We do not have the "right" to post here nor to have what we post here remain. However I believe that Moonbeam started this board out of her belief in the importance of conversation (free speech). I certainly hope that all moderators here took that position to foster an environment that encourages the exercise of free speech. Although at times I might disagree with a decision that is made, I believe that they do work to do that.

You may be censored, cut off, deleted, banned, or abridged at any time. It may be private in a way, final control by the originator who seems to stay above the frey in most cases , only entering when needed or to let the "correct "word out or to back up a decision made , if needed by ones authorized to moderate discussions that I believe over 90% of the members here are in favor of, a few not , but in this case , i believe the majority is in the positive, "moderated boards". To remove a post because one does not like the message is not free speech and I am sure not going to happen here, one always has the right to ignore, scroll or put up ones own message. Better to read the offending post and then find fault with it..thus get back at the poster in a civil and peaceful manner. Just think, in the real world you encounter some one you disagree with. In a huff you walk away..but here, one can sit back..hit the desk/table top, drop a few ^%$%#, then take a breath, use your mind, read that which you wouldn't have stood around to hear and then calmly rip apart in a civilized way..now that's fun to me. ;D

If you're going to talk about Lak, then do so directly. Yeah, he's part spammer. He's also part troll. If you don't like it, don't reply to his threads.

What good does that do since he has taken over this message board as if it is his private board to spew all of the negative posting from the Huffington Post??

I've seen the argument brought up about the subject, and thought it warranted discussion about the subject. The question isn't whether you think Lak is a spammer, although he is the one that prompted the question as people have accused him of being such; the question is what do you consider to be the line between spamming a board and freedom to voice your opinion.

The question from the title and OP is different than this one. Which do you want to discuss?

Lakhota has the right to post what he wants here and to flood the message boards with liberal media nonsense all over this message board But we have the right to ignore him or question the authenticity of his posts....
We could just give him the silent treatment and hope he goes away or have his incessant postings be limited to a given number each day..otherwise he will take over this message board which is his goal

Reply #4 accurately points out that none of us have any "right" to post anything here. We post at the pleasure of moonbeam.
It is interesting who is attempting to influence what is and isn't allowed to be posted here.

Lakhota has started @12 of @ 20 threads in the past 24 hours and he is just getting started...usually he starts @ 80% of the threads and is here 20/7 posting left wing propaganda which can easily ruin a message board if he is allowed to continue.....something the Mods ought to check into

Opinion is only one form of "speech" we have. I have the freedom to express myself through dance. I am not voicing an opinion but am exercising free speech none the less. On the "Military" sub-board is a thread on "Humor in Uniform". The posting are just stories or jokes, not opinion. One person might be here to voice their opinion. Another might be here to expose the readers to the work of others. Both valid uses of this forum.

Any poster is important only if you make him important. The board will be what all the members make it. Don't like someone's threads? Write some of your own. Or just skip them. No muss, no fuss, no whining.

Not relevant , truth full or not, not worthy of discussion, better that they not be posted here.{Any or all of the above?} If so , then what do you want to be posted here? I am just not getting it, guess I am slow so please, help me out here. All I can surmise is no on the left and liberal and yes on the right, and conservative.{Have no clue where the middle to the left would fall but we'll leave that one for another day} Would that not be a dull and boring board? I mean, how many times can one look in a mirror and say what a great and smart fella/gal one is with out running to the bathroom and being sick. One keeps patting one self on the back or even mutual patting..after a while..it gets old..common place , mundane.. like, "Yeah, yeah..u to, here ya go{pat]...big deal{pat, pat}" Help me out here, just don't know what you want.

What about the # of posts/articles per thread..say some one strings 4/5 more together. is it the # or the message in the threads?{methinks , with out being able to prove, the message does have a bit to play here, but any way, it is interesting to see all getting worked up over one persons way of posting ,,,so really ibnto politics and the markets..
