it's not bantered because the people that don't care for McCain's politics are adult enough to recognize that he wouldn't have been allowed to run for office if he didn't meet the basic requirements for the office. that said, the Panama Canal Zone was recognized as a US territory, which would qualify him for US citizenship.

Some of you are so ignorant of what the constitution says about the requirements of citizenship to be president it is no wonder we have someone in there now that I believe to be in-eligible and should be arrested and those that have helped him hide the facts.

I think his dad was stationed there, kids born to service people overseas and the canal zone back then, think was US possession or held by us..thus a citizen. Not sure if he also was a Panamanian citizen too till his majority and had to make a choice, not sure on that but he was a much a citizen as I was who was born in New Hampshire. Obama , born in Hawaii..nough said. I worked on a military base as a civilian health care provider years ago. Simply being born in a US territory does not automatically give you US citizenship. Your comments raised my curiousity and I found this: "Although the Panama Canal Zone was legally an unincorporated U.S. territory until the implementation of the Torrijos-Carter Treaties in 1979, questions arose almost from its inception as to whether the Zone was considered part of the United States for constitutional purposes, or, in the phrase of the day, whether the Constitution followed the flag. In 1901 the U.S. Supreme Court had ruled in Downes v. Bidwell that unincorporated territories are not the United States.[6] On July 28, 1904, Controller of the Treasury Robert Tracewell stated: "While the general spirit and purpose of the Constitution is applicable to the zone, that domain is not a part of the United States within the full meaning of the Constitution and laws of the country."[7] Accordingly, the Supreme Court held in 1905 in Rasmussen v. United States that the full Constitution only applies for incorporated territories of the United States.[8] Until the rulings in these so-called "Insular Cases", children born of two U.S. citizens in the Canal Zone had been subject to the Naturalization Act of 1795, which granted statutory U.S. citizenship at birth. With the ruling of 1905 persons born in the Canal Zone only became U.S. nationals, not citizens.[9] This no man's land with regard to U.S. citizenship was perpetuated until Congress passed legislation in 1937, which corrected this deficiency. The law is now codified under title 8 section 1403.[10] It not only grants statutory and declaratory born citizenship to those born in the Canal Zone after February 26, 1904, with at least one U.S. citizen parent, but also did so retroactively for all children born of at least one U.S. citizen in the Canal Zone before the law's enactment.[11]"en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panama_Canal_Zone

I'd give my right pinky to only have $22m of deficit spending rather than the >$3 TRILLION by Obama and a D Congress.

A site funded by a liberal organization can hardly be considered as one that shares facts without political bias.
Whats next, are you going to tell me that Wikipedia is a legitimate site for reliable and complete information?

As far as I know, the simple fact that one parent is a US citizen does not automatically mean the child will be. There is some threshold on how long that parent was not living in the US to negate the automatic US citizenship for the child. It was disputed how long this period was for his mother. From what I remember anyway but could be just birther conjecture.

Thanks for the link Ms. comokate but I've been through all that before about a year ago. It basically boils down to wording and how "naturalized" is interpreted. Also, I don't think that some US family who adopts a child from China can expect him or her to be eligible for president some day.

Dezi-it appears you have had your fill of beer, martinis and popcorn. Surely you need to take a break at this point.

And yet he constantly accuses me of "stirring the pot". Sad but fortunately in this virtual world there are no real consequences.

The OP is poorly written, even for propaganda. It seems the left wing propaganda machine is really scraping the bottom of the intellectual barrel ahaead of the election. I am looking forward to what they will bring out as Obama's demise approaches. Perhaps an opinion piece by noted high school dropout and felon Sean Penn, or another spokesperson for the left, borderline-retarded Rosie O'Donnell? Or maybe inveterate cokehead and semi-psychotic truther Barbra Streisand? Or perhaps some old school racism from Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson? Oh, the list is endlessly tantalizing... I weep for the left...
