OK, as a former police officer who has worked tons of shoplifting cases, once it leaves the store, it's shoplifting. You cannot pay after the fact if you have the money. So I would say if someone stuffs a sandwich wrapper in their purse and tries to leave, they suffer the consequences. But... Everyone forgets things. I know I have opened something in a store for my child and held the wrapper to pay later. But I made super sure the wrapper was in plain sight with my other groceries so there was no doubt I was going to pay for it. So... I would say if there was some effort at concealment, they deserve what they got. If they truly forgot about it (I didn't see where it said where the wrapper was), I think the store could have used some discretion and allowed them to pay with the strict lecture and maybe even trespass. Or at least arrest one of them so the other could take the child (provided they didn't look all dirt baggy which it doesn't sound like they were). As a mother of a 3 year old, I find this story horrifying. Even if the 2 parents had every intention of stealing the 2 sandwiches, Safeway should've only pressed charges against one of them. Sending a small child into state custody for 18 hours while the parents were only locked up for 4? She had never been away from her parents. I can't imagine how scared she was. Sounds like the kid payed more for the crime than the parents did! Besides the woman is 30 weeks pregnant for God's sake and the story said they had gotten lost being in a new town traveling on foot/public tansportation and she was starving. I'm 34 weeks pregnant and if I go too long without eating something, I can barely function and oftentimes I start throwing up. Sorry for the rant but this story pisses me off!

Hi everyone. Just another quick drive by posting. I have 2 x $3/1 Farmer John Smoked sausage Qs (exp 11/17). We don't get that brand here. Meijer - 6ct Angel Soft double roll t/p is on sale for $2.50 on Saturday. Use the 50c/1 Q (RP 8/14) and pay $1.50/pk. Also, 1 lb Arm & hammer baking soda is on price drop for 65c. On the box is a MIR for FREE 1yr subscription to Better Homes & Garden WYB 2 1lb boxes. Constanz - Happy Belated Birthday! I'm back to lurking again. We've lost 2 family members within a 2 wk period, so I've been a mess lately. Was thinking about you the other day. So sorry for your losses.

Weren't Pillsbury Grands something that used to be free? I keep seeing sales with coupon that makes it $1.99. Am I losing it remembering free?

Hound Alert - I am looking for the 3$ MQ for the Glucerna Hunger Smart products that came in the 10/2 SS. We did not get this Q in So Cal. TIA saveinla: I checked to see if maybe I got it in my non-major metro inserts, but no luck.

No your not losing it, we use to get them free, they use to be money makers with the cats too. I hate seeing sale + Q = $1.99. Unfortunately, we're having to pay real money for things we used to be able to get for free quite regularly. I know that if it weren't for what I have stockpiled, I would be hating it. Last night we had a $9.55 chicken; I paid about $2.50 for it. We had instant mashed potatoes; I used 1 C. and paid $.37 for the whole box. I also opened a can of green beans; I paid $.25 for those. Tonight we're having home-made chicken soup made from leftover chicken and the carcass. I'll use a half a bag of egg noodles; I paid $.25 for the whole bag. I'll serve corn bread on the side which was free after coupons. Some of the things I used to stockpile regularly really cheaply or for free, I have not been able to replace (like Coffeemate liquid), so I'll improvise until I can get what I want at a price that I'm willing to pay.

Am I weird that in my mind you should pay for it before eating? Did this get out of hand? Yes, but my kids know that we don't eat in the grocery store. I never understood it, but then, I tell my kids no all the time. I've never been one to eat things before paying for them, but I'm the nerdy rule follower type. I actually WOULD expect someone to haul my a** off to jail if I did that lol. But I don't think most people think like I do. I've done it before with a chocolate milk on a few occasions. I get it in the back of the store and drink it on the way to the register, or while waiting in line. I make sure to hand it to her as soon as I get there. I wouldn't pick it up on the way into the store because then I WOULD forget! And I always thought I was a nerdy rule follower!

Pubbler: So sorry to hear about your losses. Meijer mperks gave me a $2.00 off but it's only good till Saturday. I plan on getting a rotisserie chicken for $4.99-2.00 IPC-2.00 mperks for $.99. I need to make more stock and I like shredding up the chicken to put in my freezer.
CVS: I did great this week and am glad I saved up my Cover Girl Q's. I spent under $10.00 OOP and got back $10.00 ECB's for beauty club and 4 $10.00 giftcards. I also got 10 Pantenes, 3 Jifs and 3 Tides. I'm putting back the giftcards to use for Black Friday shopping if there are any great deals.

Anyone find a deal with Wisk yet??? I have a lot of coupons to use and the cheapest I've seen is $4.97 at Wal-Mart. I can't pay $2.97 for something I have 12+ of, but don't want to waste the coupons either.

The thing that struck me that made it seem that it was NOT at all done on purpose is that they paid for $50 of groceries. I mean, obviously only they know the truth, but it just seems unlikely that you'd "shoplift" a sandwich by eating it and then pay all that money.

She says that most good couponers only use a few of the coupons they compile. I think this is true. The stars have to align where we have both a great coupon value and a great sale/cat/etc. I know you know this already, so I'm mostly just sympathizing with your desire to use that $2 coupon. I too feel like it's a bummer when I have a high value coupon and can't make it match to a good deal. But sometimes that's the way things go.

I also have been guilty of grabbing soda or water to drink if I'm really thirsty and paying for it when I checked out.

Yep, I can't tell you how many high valued coupons I've let go just cuz they didn't match up with a good sale. That's why when I see something at a rock bottom price that we use and there is no good coupon out, I TRY to get a rain check for it in the hopes of matching it up later to get a killer deal.

Aveeno MM at CVS I heart cvs is reporting that the trial size Aveeno lotion, 1 oz., are now printing the $7 EB! I bought it Monday and it did not print, but when I went back Tuesday to inquire about it, they force printed it. Wish I'd read that before I went to cvs today . They are 1.49 each, so, spend 2.98 and get $7 EB's. I was excited when I scanned my card today. I got my next $5 Beauty Club EB

I bought a couple of the Venus baskets, but I got them at Walmart.com online. I have read that they have those baskets in the stores though, and I don't know why coupons wouldn't work. Usually, a coupon for the main item in a set works fine.
