6 lbs to go this month to reach my goal. I'm getting a huge pile of clothes to give away (I think I have 5 pairs of pants that I can still get away with wearing...but they are getting TOO baggy). I'm hoping I can hold out for after Christmas sales to buy smaller pants.
yep...that's why I'm getting rid of the larger size clothes. If you wear loose fitting clothes, you get the feeling you don't need to drop any more lbs/inches. Or that you can eat a little more. Having something snug fitting around the waist makes a big difference for me!

I, too, tend to wear jeans that are too tight. I feel uncomfortable plus I feel slightly embarrassed about the resulting muffin top and that keeps my eating in check all day. On the days I wear comfy yoga pants I tend to not think about my eating as much.

when I started back trying to lose weight (AGAIN), I used my old WW points books. Not really keeping a journal, just keeping track of points. I did that for 2 or 3 months. Right now, I'm not keeping track of points. As long as I continue to progress toward my goal, I won't worry about it. sometimes the food journal/keeping track of points makes me feel like I think about food ALL THE TIME. Other times I'll think twice about eating something because I know I have to write it down. Just depends

less than 5 lbs to go by the end of the year (total of 15.5 lbs lost so far) the only thing I've really changed this time around is more focus on cardio. I still do weight training 2 or 3 times a week (instead of 5 or 6), and I still do Pilates, but I focus more of my workouts on running, cycling, walking, or spin classes. I'm actually looking forward to getting the tape measure out at the end of the year to see how many inches I've lost. I can tell such a big difference in my clothes. and just dropping 10 lbs made me feel SO much better! oh...and I'm out of the 'overweight' category on that brutal BMI scale now I say brutal because I'm pretty muscular, so I weigh more than most people would guess. Even before I lost weight, the WebMD site showed my weight was not a health issue because of my pants size. I think that's part of the reason why I've had such a tough time losing weight. It's virtually impossible to lose weight and build muscle at the same time. Now I'm maintaining my muscle mass, but weight loss is really really slow.

I need to lose some weight (about 10 to 15 pounds) and I'll do it with both diet and exercise. Not a New Years Resolution with me, but the hard fact reality of the situation.

I'm going to cutail my snacking. That's my downfall. That, and anything sweetand chocolate, also.

Congrats Peach. Do you have an update? Only 6 finishing days. Gomez. Today is not the day to ditch the chocolate. Although, I have managed to go without potato chips for 3 weeks. Did the weight budge down. NO. ETA: Yoga pants. I need some for muscle pump, kettle bells and the gym on cold days. Being a fruglista, I thought I had hit the jackpot with $9 y.pants. I get them home, put them on. Yikes these are tight and they should be or else baggy. I am too old for the cutsy stuff but looked okay in them. I look at the tag and it says "girls". I am going to keep them.

Just don't stuff your face, eat the right portions of the right food and be active.
All else follows...simple really.
All the best.

You are right RNB. I'll get on with it.
I need to find out what is causing the donut around my waist after exercising. I have noticed this on women over 40 or 50, also. Not the skinny ones.

I don't think I'll make my 20 lbs weight loss goal by year end (next weigh in is Sunday), but I have dropped TWO sizes. I feel pretty good about my accomplishment. I'll keep at it. When I weigh Sunday morning, I'll get out the tape measure too.

I feel I have successfully ditched the potato chips. A triple bag box is in the laundry room for 10 days now. Special K crackers and celery were the replacement. I finished the 1st week of the WH exercise routine I had picked out and actually did 3 sets of the squat circuit. (heavy breathing) I have not added the cardio fnisher as I am already finished off. I did do 2 walk/runs while watching TV for about 15 mins. each. My ankles and feet aren't in condition yet. They like the precor.
I am sliding into the new year better than before.

good job!
It always helps me to get on an eating right/regular exercise plan around Oct or Nov. Now when the crowds are in the gym in Jan, I'll be more likely to find a way to workout inspite of the masses.
I've added 25 minutes on the elliptical to my morning Pilates. I ran/walked 6 miles on the treadmill last night. I did 5 miles in just over 55 minutes (that's pretty good for me)

the bad news is I didn't make my 20 lb end of the year goal the good news is I did lose the little bit of weight I'd gained back AND a few pounds more (total of 17 lbs lost; 3 to go) I've lost almost 4 inches in my waist, about 2 in my hips, and close to an inch on each thigh. all the talk of vanity sizing has me wondering if I've REALLY made any progress. But some of the clothes I'm wearing are things I already owned and hadn't been able to wear in years. My friend in TX kept giving my clothes when I went to visit her in December. I'd look at the size on the tag and tell her, "There's no way I can fit into that!" She convinced me to give it a try...and the smaller sizes actually fit goals for 2012 - maintain the weight I've lost and continue to drop lbs/inches complete a sub-30 5k (I'm sooooo close; my best time is 30:51) I did sign up for another boot camp class. That will help avoid the resolution crowd, but keep me working out.

G4U Peach. Since you lost your head (avatar) that should take care of the excess pounds!
I was amazed at how much better my cardio went yesterday after switching to the WH bikini work out and adding 15 min. R/WIP for a few days. Maybe in 2012, I will regain my 1970s fondness for running.
Have you seen the Stevia commercials that parody Xmas carols? They are so funny but I can't catch enough of them quickly enough to write them down.
ETA spell check.

funny that you said that...DH saw one of those banner ads on his laptop that claimed you could lose 7 lbs by Christmas (I think he saw the ad on Dec 20th). I told him I didn't really want to chop my head off ;D
glad your cardio workout went well.
I did Pilates yesterday morning. Today was Pilates, then I ran 3 miles and walked 1/2 mile. I did a leg workout too.
I started actually USING SparkPeople. I signed up last year, but got really frustrated trying to figure it out. It's not that difficult, I just needed to take a few minutes to watch the set-up video. I'm using the exercise tracker and the nutrition tracker. They have some decent articles and lots of message boards for discussion and support

Yes. I heard it is pregnant horse urine. Goggle probably has all the info you would want on pros and cons.
Calculating Calories Burned
During sleep, a person's weight and the number of hours he/she sleeps determine how many calories are burned. Normally, a person burns about 0.42 calories for every pound in one hour of sleep. For instance, a 150 lb. person burns about 63 calories in one hour. If this person sleeps for eight hours total, he/she burns 504 calories for the whole duration. Just multiply the average rate with every pound of weight and number of hours of sleep. Therefore, the heavier a person is, as well as the longer a person sleeps, the more calories are burned
500 calories per day is not enough to keep your brain and body functioning. During sleep, your body uses about 50 calories per hour. 50 x 24 hours = 1200 calories.

I graduated college with a BMI borderline between overweight and obese. I knew I had to lose weight but couldn't find a way to do it since I'm a compulsive eater. Over the years nothing I tried could change this behavior so I eventually gave up. But after a cancer scare a decade ago I finally found a method that worked for me.
It turns out my palate is pretty flexible and I like or can learn to like eating just about anything. So I decided to focus on low calorie density foods. The most commonly available foods of this kind are salad bar ingredients such as lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, that sort of thing. I wasn't particularly fond of this stuff when I was young, but decided that before eating anything else during the day, I'd finish off a quota of this for medicinal purposes. Also I went cold turkey on soda pop.
Over the past ten years I gradually lost almost a third of my weight when I was 21. Frankly I don't feel much different physically, maybe it's just getting older, but I definitely look better in swim trunks. My doctor says my blood test numbers are quite good so I'll take it on faith that I'm on a better track now than before.
