Have you guys seen the show "The Will?" My new favorite show.
It is Discovery ID, or something, and it has the classic format. Every week they tell the story of someone who died, left a will and something happened. Usually the will was changed at the last minute to give everything to the busty nurse, and the kids had to contest it. But, there is usually a pretty good twist to it. They interview the real people involved, the experts and have cheesy scenes by actors to show a dramatization of what happened. Most of those scenes don't have a lot of talking - just the narrator telling you what is going on.
I know it isn't true, but I think the only advertiser on the show is "Legal Zoom." Everything else seems to promote other shows. I could see Legal Zoom supporting this whole show single-handedly. And every week my husband and I say "We better get something in writing!" Great marketing.
They had an additional special on with weird last wishes that people wanted done. So, we were also talking about our "last wishes." My husband is trying to figure out where he wants to be scattered. I told him I wanted to be on the mantle - staring at him for the rest of his life. But mostly, I just want to have the most fun funeral ever. I asked him to rent out the comedy club or some bar - and not have it in a church or funeral home. I'm considering writing a letter to be read that is full of jokes like "I hope Doug was considerate to hold this memorial service on a weekday, so all of you had an excuse to get out of work." Tacky and hilarious - the only way to memorialize me!
Do you have any last wishes? Do you have them written into your legal documents, or are they just discussed with your family? Do you think there will be any resistance?

I want to be cremated. I told my wife. Same here and just drop them anywhere. Heck, don't even bother to go pick them up afterwards.

That was sort of my thing. I told my husband to just toss 'em. I guess I believe that I'm gone - what does it really matter?

I had a boss who had her Mother's remains scattered over Puget sound. I guess you can make arrangements with the Washington State Ferry to do this.

I know there are all kinds of laws about spreading remains. My husband said "Just go to the park we like to go to - there is never anyone around - how would anyone know?"
My answer was that we haven't been there since they started charging the $5 entry fee, and I'm not sure I want to pay that much. (Clearly, I'm not taking this very seriously.)

Let's make a YM pact. For everyone that gets cremated we can all have the ashes dumped in a pile together and created a big YM compost pile.

I think that we should start a group that takes young people who are in debt and makes them carry our urn full of ashes around with them until they complete their snowball plan to pay off their debt. Nothing will motivate you to NOT buy that cool pair of shoes like having to tote around a 25 lb jar full of some strangers cremains.

I've told DH and son that I wish to be cremated and my ashes either scattered at Neah Bay or sent to the little cemetery where my grandparents and great grandparents (on both sides) are buried. DH just told me he wanted to be cremated. I'd probably ask some sailing friends to take me out to scatter the ashes.

My wife and I decided that since the dead would not care, it should be up to the survivor to decide what to do, not the "croakee". Whichever of us is alive will decide the arrangements, based on where the spouse and the children are at that point.

My ashes are going to Carmel, California. It's too expensive to live there while I'm alive, so I figure I'll plan to live there after I'm gone.

Re: My remains. Put in a can of paint and paint our bedroom. Then I can see who he brings into our bed and how long he waited.
Who am I kidding? He would rather go shopping.

Thyme, Get a Maricopa County yearly pass. It's a good deal if you like to go to the park system. DH's dad asked that his cremains be spread over the mountain town he lived in the last 15 years of his life. He was a sail plane instructor so his first student and DH went up in the sail plane and spread them. DH said it was pretty cool as they circled around and the sunlight reflected off the ashes. Apparently there were quite a bit of ashes and there was some left over. DH put them in the TRASH! I didn't know about that or I would have scattered them around our cabin. I like to hike and the coolest story I heard was a hiker who requested that his ashes be split up and sprinkled over his favorite trails. Apparently it took a couple years to complete the job but his friends enjoyed "the mission".

My mom wants hers scattered in a couple of places. My sister and I will at least get a vacation out of it.

Your remains can be mixed with concrete which is used to make a bowl-like thing that they lower into the ocean and becomes part of a reef. I think this is pretty cool for people who want to be buried at sea. www.eternalreefs.com/index.html

Cremation for the two of us. Him on top of his favorite 14neer and me in Yellowstone with out NPS knowing about it. Kids will have to climb the 14neer to do that.

My dad's asks his friend to take them down a trail they hiked in Canada, as far as they ever made it, and drop them there. My husband went to Canada with my dad last year, and was careful not to hike any further than that, should he then be entrusted with the task...
I heard an author talk once, and a friend of hers died and left like 6 people parts of the ashes, and plane tickets/trip itineraries to all over the world... and asked them to travel one last time on/with him, and spread him across all corners of the globe... fun... expensive, but fun.... i mean, for a funeral...

I tried to get DH to buy a plot near his mothers, grandparents, and his uncle after his uncle's funeral. He thought this was creepy and weird but RE in that cemetery is super expensive and becoming rare.
I don't care where I'm buried.

I would rather be cremated and scattered, but DH is a traditional Catholic and won't agree to scatter me. Most likely I will end up in a niche. I am not opposed to a niche, just think that the money could be better spent on the living.
I will inherit my grandma's ashes, which are currently in my parent's living room in an urn. I don't like the idea of keeping her ashes in the house, but I talked to mom and she agreed that it would be OK for me to buy a niche for grandma at the cemetery where her two sons are buried.

I want scattered on a trail with a view of Mt Rainier on Coral Pass. I told my boyfriend and showed him on a map but he has never hiked that trail. When I hike I don't like him with me, I prefer to hike alone so I have been up that trail a few times when he goes down another trail. It is only a mile or so from camp and uphill, I like hiking uphill instead of down hill. At the top you can see forever and a great view of Mt Rainier and a huge rock. I want my ashes in a black cardboard box then scattered on the hill top with a view.
He wants a beautiful urn buried along a river that is overrun with brush. He buried his favorite dog and his favorite rabbit there already. He and his dog used to fish there. His dog has been gone more than 20 years but he will never get another he already had the perfect dog and she is waiting for him. His dad has died and he is sure his dad has his dog waiting for him.

God, I need to get out more.
