But my car locks the doors automatically when you reach 10 mph or so, and I'm not going to unlock them based on possiblities. You're not going to click a button based on the possibility of saving your life? I understand if your idea that you think you're apparently just as strong as your car, that anything that would knock you out must also mean your car is incapable of having the door opened. It's a ridiculous logic imo, but if you believe it, it at least makes sense. I just don't think it takes all that much to render someone incapable of unlocking their door. Being knocked unconscious isn't particularly tough to do. Assuming a head-on collision, it can take quite a bit to render a door unable to be opened by someone strong. Either way, there's absolutely no downside to having it unlocked while you drive down the road other than laziness. If you're too lazy to click a button to be safer, that's fine, plenty of people are, but lets all just own up to it being laziness instead of some convoluted logic of convincing yourself it's somehow safer. The idea that "well my door locks automatically so I'm not going to click "unlock" just on the possibility that it will save my life just sounds incredibly lazy though. I'm too lazy to lock my car up and take the keys out if I have to run into the gas station for a pop...but I don't pretend it's some illogical safety maneuver, it's more risky than the alternative and I do it cuz I'm lazy. I'll be be the first to admit that I can be lazy, and perhaps that's part of it. But no neighborhood is completely safe, and carjackers can come out of nowhere. So to prevent that, I keep the doors locked. But when I'm moving more than 5-10 mph, the chances of someone jumping into my car are practically nil, so I should have the doors unlocked. So when I'm driving in typical stop-and-go city traffic, I should lock my doors at stoplights, then unlock them when I accelerate, then lock them again next time I stop? That's not an issue of laziness, that's just crazy.

I am now living in a very small town where I do keep my house locked. However, it's nice to know that I would feel very safe if I didn't lock it.
I do lock my car when it is parked "in town". Around here, many times in the winter, I leave it running. Everybody knows everybody and most people do the same thing. I have never done this anywhere else I have lived.

Holy crap, KK!! Glad you made it out ok. Me, too! Seriously, though. That was the single scariest event in my life. I got a restraining order against the guy, but crazies don't always obey restraining orders, y'know?

We live in a fairly small town. I almost never lock my car doors & sometimes forget to lock our house at night. It's a very safe feeling town. The one exception is when I go to big stores. There are just to many out of towners that might be stoping there going thru town.

I never lock my doors although I am always armed and my psycho dog is most likely laying in the back seat. I send the dog with my wife when ever she goes out at night and we have never had any trouble

My car is crappy and has manual locks. It's just too obnoxious to lock and unlock each door individually. Besides, it's a total POS. I don't have to worry too much about getting car jacked. There's never anything in it worth stealing. I mean, I guess somebody might take the stock stereo with tape deck... but I doubt it. You could buy a better car stereo for like $10 and it would probably at least play CDs. Seriously, if I parked it in a crappy part of town I'd probably come back to a note from a thief offering to get me an upgrade at a rock bottom price.
In terms of the getting pulled out thing. Either the dude has a gun, in which case I'm going to do what he tells me whether the door is locked or not, or the dude doesn't in which case I like my chances of being able to either take him or get away even if the door is unlocked.
