dumb question from the new lurker here - What is WAGS and UP? Welcome from coming out of hiding! You get UPs at Rite Aid. (I started to type RA, and then realized you might now know what I mean!) They're just like RR (Register Rewards) at Walgreens. Except a lot less rules at Rite Aid than at Walgreens!

I don't know if we have a Rite Aid here. My Walgreens shopping tends to be picture printing w/ splurge of Pepsi. I don't think I'm willing to give up the convenience of shopping at Woodmans w/ a monthly Target run for cheaper prices but multiple runs to the drug store. We'll see. Based on the handbook, I guess I'm a level 1.5. I'm meal planning based on what's in the cupboards and buying (with coupons and sales where I can) to fill in the gaps. We don't buy the Sunday paper but my MIL saves her coupon sections for me and passes them on once she's done. My parents might be willing to do that too. And we get some flyers in the mail every week. Usually the Red Plum ads but sometimes P&G. Not sure if I've seen the others or not. I haven't paid much attention to what the coupon sections were/are until reading this thread.

WAGS is Walgreens, not sure about UP... UP is what Rite Aid named their rewards (like Register Rewards at WAGs and Extra Bucks at CVS).

Wisconsin Beth: WELCOME, WELCOME, WELCOME to the Grocery Challenge from me - dancinmama!! ;D You should be saving quite a bit based on what you're already doing. The next thing you'll want to do is to become familiar with the sales cycles at your favorite grocery stores and the rock bottom prices for the items that you use regularly (their lowest sales price). When something you use regularly goes on sale at its rock bottom price, buy 3 or 4 or however many you think you'll need before the next cycle or before the product expires. Once you start doing that, you'll never be at the mercy of regular prices when you run out of something. After that, if you want to save more, you can combine buying products at rock bottom prices with the use of coupons. Sometimes by doing this you can get some products for free. For example, this week beachbum is getting Bird's Eye frozen veggies for free and some of us sent her coupons so that she could stockpile several bags. Anyway, if there is ANYTHING we can do to help you, just let us know. We're here to help YOU!! ;D

Anyone know how long the Wags Cottonelle catalina runs for? I know it doesn't start until tomorrow, but when does it end? Trying to figure out if I need to make a special trip for it this weekend...My TP stockpile is LOW It looks like it's the packages that are always $5, so, it shouldn't just be this week's ad price...Anyone know? Anyone??

These deals that start mid-ad cycle make me a little nervous.

leanna: Yeah, the envie was probably mine. I'm Norcal/Bay Area and all mail goes through Oakland. It got to you very quickly! Hope pigchaw got hers, too.
Love your stockroom, btw! Have fun with that.

Wisconsin Beth (and anyone else) I've attached a document that you may find useful. It explains how to shop using the Price Book method. Perhaps you already are doing something similar...

Ideas?
We received a special coupon in the mail from Fred Meyer's. It's $20 wyb $100 or $30 wyb $150 or $40 wyb $200. So works out to 20% savings as long as you stay close to one of those number $100/$150/$200.
We need more lighting in the living room (no overhead lights), so I'm thinking of buying a standing floor lamp and then lots of chicken & freeze the chicken now that I have a larger freezer.
I usually shopped at Sfwy for food, so I kind of have to get a feel of Fred Meyer's and compare their prices. 'Cause just because you have a coupon, doesn't always mean you're getting a deal.
So, any thoughts from anyone who is a Fred Meyer shopper or any thoughts on things I might want to think about to buy?
I don't want to buy just to use the coupon, so I do need to shop around for the lighting and make sure this would be a decent deal.

I did check HCW and it's reportedly working thru 10/30...cool, now I won't have to make a special trip to the city, I'll see what people are saying over the weekend and get it Monday when I go back to work.

I had to return something at Sears today and was very happy to find all of their summer clothes marked down to 7.99! I new clothes! (Yes, I have clothes shopping issues...) There were a lot of things that I can wear into fall...didn't get anything real summery. I got 2 big bags of clothes, including a light jacket that was 19.99, for $120 Then went to another local department store for another return and they had their summer stuff for 3.99! No need to shop thrift stores with prices like these! Love it! Had to pick up a script at CVS today and came upon an awesome clearance deal. They had the HUGE boxes of Kleenex with lotion clearanced in a cart for .85 a box! I ran out to my car, found my recent coupon (.50/3) and went back in and grabbed them! There were only four left so I got them all!

FREE STUFF BUT LOWER QUALITY I know that a lot of people are brand loyal to certain things. Some of us have our favs and others are constrained by family members. I have to admit that the RA toilet paper was less than stellar quality; but when it comes to quality, I always have to ask myself whether the price I would have to pay for the higher quality stuff would be worth it, and many times the answer is "no". I saw an ad for toilet paper the other day (I think it was in Safeway's circular). The ad showed the total cost for the package of TP and then a side note saying, "Like paying $.75/roll". SEVENTY FIVE CENTS A ROLL? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? AND THAT IS A SALE? So, okay, I had 30 packages of the RA stuff and ya, it isn't the best. At first I was even dreading having to use it, but decided to get it over with. And guess what? We got used to it. By the time we got 1/3 of the way through the stockpile, I was bummed that I hadn't gone back and gotten more before they turned the deal off. (Who knew they'd shut it down on Monday?) I haven't changed my mind. It's not very good TP. But for the money I saved by using free RA TP for the last nine months (and I still have 5 packages left), I'm really thankful/glad that I got it even though I know that when I return to using the "good stuff" I'll wonder how I ever put up with the crappy RA stuff for so long. 75c a roll?? Yikes! We 'bought' 52 packs of that RA toilet paper, and I'm glad we did it that first Sunday, because RA has become notorious for squelching their deals after the first day. The tp is crummy, but free is my price, so we just put it in our upstairs bathroom where we use it ourselves, and put the nicer stuff in the guest bathroom. I can stand a little inconvenience for free!

In case anyone is looking for clothing, JC Penney has a huge red zone clearance. They had nice Vans Tshirts - normally 25$ on clearance for 2.97 to 4.97. I bought 3 of the nicer ones for DS. I was only looking for T shirts, but red zone clearance is all through the store.

Hey kids, REVERSE HOUND ALERT:Can't recall who was looking for the Celestial Seasonings tea Q's? I have two if there is still the need, just raise your hand if you're still interested.
Finished the $10 UP for Cover Girl last night. Spent about $2.33 OOP and got 4 concealers, two eye pencils and two individual eye shadows. I was fortunate that the lower priced CV items were in stock at my local RA. Have one more $8 CV Q left, hope to be able to reach the $50 to get the $10 P&G Beauty rebate. Will have to see what other P&G product Q's I have and what sales are out there.

So all this talk about Extreme Couponing and I see it on TV so I watched it for the first time all the way through, and two episodes. I don't remember most as it was pretty boring to me but some of the people were like watching a slow moving train wreck. One young woman explained because her dad and brothers are disabled she gets the groceries for 9 people including herself, husband and baby. That part was fine and I so feel a little sorry for her in that she feels like the person who has to take care of her family and at such a young age. When they went to the grocery store the grand retail came to just under $900 for the total order. (I mean the end where they list the regular retail price for everything.) My problem is it included 240 packages of Tic Tacs. And I literally mean Tic Tacs! They cost retail $1.39 each so $333.60 of their $900 order was for the Tic Tacs. I don't care that they got them for free that is just plain stupid! The other I remember was a young college student. He had a really small apartment that was literally puking stuff. He was so proud that he had eleven years of laundry detergent blocking his use of his kitchen. So his shopping trip what does he do he spends fifty something bucks buying you guessed it more laundry detergent. And it wasn't free for that stuff. He paid like $1.50 a 32 load bottle of Purex. For someone who only had $100 a month allowance spending half of it on a twelfth years supply of laundry detergent and body wash and shampoo that you don't even have a place to store seems pretty stupid to me. The rest of the shows were people spending 6-8 hours at the store and 2-4 at the register! One woman had 39 separate transactions! My store would kick them the hell out, but even if they didn't I would want to kill myself if I had to do that just to get the groceries we needed every week.

Re the P&G $10 rebate for Olay, Cover Girl etc. You'd think I know the answer to this question but since I have CRS, I'm gonna ask. Does the $50 spent have to be before coupons? or after coupons? In other words, if the retail price is $50 or over, but my OOP is only $5.00 after coupons, will that work for the rebate?

Their rebates are always great due to that.

However, I kinda wish I saw this episode because it would've made your commentary even funnier, if possible! The tictac comment cracked me up. I would cringe every time someone would leave with 3 carts of powerade, 2 carts of ramen noodles and 3 carts of dog food and brag about how they got it all for $10 and they're feeding their family for so cheap. Well, I guess the dog is taken care of for the rest of its life, but if you're feeding your family that much powerade and ramen noodles, then what you save in the grocery store will most certainly be spent many times over at the dr's office and pharmacy down the road....

I felt sorry for that first one too. Really nice what she's doing for her family though. On the Tic Tacs, her mother does baskets at Christmas for everyone and puts candy. She and her sister thought it would be funny to have tons of Tic Tacs since they were free. What I don't understand is how on earth did she get 240 IPs for Tic Tacs?!?! That other woman on that episode (cover your ears kids) what a whore. Seriously. She's so proud of being a shelf clearer. And has such a bad attitude. You can tell she's a hateful person and couponing has to be her life because she couldn't possibly have any friends.

People watch it (including people on the YM boards) and THINK that is what WE do: spend hours and hours clipping coupons, clear shelves, stockpile mounds of junk food, buy enormous quantities of product that puke over into our homes, etc. Someone on one of the other boards said that they should combine this show with Hoarders. Considering the Mr. Purex episode, now I understand why. So far, I haven't watched a single episode in the new season.
