I'd be in for cards, but not secret santa, if that's okay. I might have to be one of those annoying people who puts their pets on their cards haha.

10/27 NSDRed--What do ya mean "annoying people" ? Pets are family!!! Mine even "sign" the cards! Have fun on your trip! Mid--enjoyed the guest post. MK--good to hear health and happiness are returning to the household Smartstart--have a taco, or two, and celebrate something. It does not have to be a birthday. Shannen--All the best to JuneBug, hope she is much better. Sapphire--22 miles in a weekend?!?! Wow Sheila-- Wow, many hugs. You deserve them all! How did DH's interview go. Honey--why are you nervous? you will wow them with your amazingness. 3cats--I hope your world is better Honey, FP and Nuttin--Big hugs for dealing with the punches of this economy MrsL--great job with the blog Last Wednesday was a "micro" vacation. I met friends for a leisurely drive through the Black Hills and a seafood lunch out at one of the casinos. It was so beautiful, just past peak at the higher altitudes and color exploding lower down--and still green leaves and grass that needs mowing at home! There is a chance that we might have a freeze in a week or so--I'm ready to have the swarming bugs over and done with. I came home to half a roll of TP pulled off the roll and scratched and pushed into a little nest. I thought Calleigh had grown out of this! Gotta go watch the news about the 99%. I feel so much sympathy for those young people, especially the college grads with no hopes of ever doing as well as their parents.

DH's interview went really really well. They said they loved his philosophies and attitude. They think that they have several areas that would be of interest to him. Want to do another interview next week with yet another branch's operations manager. They fear there will be a "bidding war" to see who gets to have DH working for their branch. We have gotten our hopes up before and had them come to nothing. So I am trying to be calm and patient with this. But after 3 1/2 years of DH either being unemployed or grossly under-employed it's a relief to have someone taking him seriously again.

sheila- congrats to DH!
christmas- count me in for both this year. I have so many stamps in my drawer and a ton of cards to send!
thanks everyone for the bday wishes here and on facebook - its been an okay day overall. guy at the gym nearly made me cry though.
I'm heading out to do a little shopping (just errands) for those things that I'm inexplicably out of. Like q-tips. who would have thought I'd finally run out of the 5,000 q-tips I had at one time? Also need more glue sticks so I can finish a project and clean up my kitchen table.
meeting mom and dad for dinner tomorrow and hoping it goes well. it's a little like being 10 years old again since there was a time where for 3 years my Dad would lose his job or have a reduction in hours right before my birthday leading me to never ask for anything. my parents were always honest with us but the guilt of wanting something when money was tight was horrible. Now with both of my parents unemployed it's put me right back in that frame of mind.

I would be interested in doing cards definitely- can someone fill me in on how we do secret santa? I am pretty sure I want to do it- I just want to make sure I know what I'm doing...
Sorry I haven't been very communicative the past few days. I am fighting with my newest mailman, getting a lot accomplished, and trying very hard to kick the self-doubt that is nagging me right now.
Trying some new recipes for my business...

Happy Birthday startsmart. MK, I am in for both. update; 13 NSD, 1 EOD.I am doing okay. Still not up to par but doing. Did I mention that someone dropped off a kitten? I am pretty sure it is a female so when I get some money ahead, I am going to get her spayed. She is outside but has a good place to sleep. I feed her twice a day and the grandkids named her Mittens because she has 4 white feet. Once I get some of the mess cleaned up in the garage I will let her sleep inside in the winter when it is really cold. I cut my finger on the slicer again last week. I am not allowed to clean that one again. It is the only one that I cut myself on. This cut was somewhat bad but now it is looking better. If people would stop slicing tomatoes on that slicer or clean the seeds off when they were done, I would not cut myself. Twice I was trying to get the seeds off and sliced my finger, the same finger at that. Well I have to get to bed because I have to go to work tomorrow.

mizbear; one person, usually MK, acts as the go between. She picks the names of each person's secret santa and e-mails that name to the person. Say she picks your name for me. She will send me an e-mail with that information on it along with your address and I will send you a gift for Christmas. Does that make sense?

Update: 9 NS day & 4 CS days
Good morning all. Just checking in before I begin my day. Have lots of errands and things to get done at home before I get back to rest of the paperwork/schoolwork. I am beginning to see the end of them but it may take the rest of the weekend. My goal is to get as much done as possible today so that the rest of the weekend will be paperless.
I have been reading but not posting. So let's see what I remember.
Count me in for both card exchange and secret Santa.
Happy Birthday Startsmart -- sorry it is a day late.
Sorry to read about all the job layoffs. Good luck to all with interviews.
Hope all the kids' health problems are over.
More later since I have got to get a move on.

A note to add to the secret Santa--in the past we have tried to do handcrafted, re-gifted, inexpensive gifts. I got one of my most valued gifts from MrsL when she printed all of the stories I posted about TJ's adoption of Onyx, his last year and her first year, that Honey collected on her blog and then turned them into a book she sent me. I catch myself often reading and remembering that year.
Does anyone else find it odd that a computer spell check program does not acknowledge the word "blog"?

mizbear: I hope YOU are not doing those dishes. Really that is just gross. Last year I did both cards and secret santa. If you ladies would like me to do it I will have DF write e-mails for secret santa to those ladies telling them who their secret santa is. I will admit to cheating last year LOL I REALLY wanted honey as mine... I still have most of our addresses on my spreadsheet. sbcali I will need yours. You can e-mail me at mittenkittenwir@gmail.com or pm me. mizbear: I got you for secret santa. Do you also want to do cards or not? This time my weight loss challenge has been so much more difficult. The sad part is I started heavier then I did last year. Nothing like family drama and kids being ill to completely mess with my plans. Trying not to have it get me down. I am down 6-8 lbs from the beginning and REALLY hoped to be down a total of 16 by the end with is in a little over two weeks. So that is NOT going to happen. but I DO plan on doing it again over the holidays. Last year I lost 10 lbs over Halloween, Thanksgiving and Xmas so that was a BIG accomplishment for me. Especially since I lost and didn't gain any.

Update - 3 NS, 9 CS, 3 EODWorking on the spreadsheet with everyone's updates, should have it up later this evening. It's been an extremely hectic week, and I swear that tetanus shot gave me tetanus Startsmart- Happy birthday! Wishing you a happy and stress-free day Ses- Your mini-vacation sounds lovely. Sheila- Congrats to your DH! Great news and so glad his skills and talents are finally being recognized. MK - That's pretty impressive to lose 10 lbs during the holiday season! Good luck this year and don't let the little setbacks get you down. 3cats - Boo to the slicer! My old restaurant boss once told me there were only 2 types of people in the kitchen, burners and cutters. I'm definitely a cutter, it sucks Kudos to you for giving the kitten a good home. Money - good luck with getting everything done this weekend. I'm sorry if I missed anyone...

MK- Yes I am interested in doing cards also. I will PM you my addy tomorrow when I do all my updates.
I got so disgusted with everything at DMs- I left. I was afraid I would start throwing dishes instead of loading them in the dishwasher. So now I have another of those weird headaches.
I think I am going to have a cup of chamomile tea and go to bed early tonight.

MK; can you make sure I get all the addresses you have? I am going to start sending birthday gifts again in 2012. I have so much yarn to use up that I decided to do the gifts again. I found the list of the dates but I don't know if I have the addresses of them all, especially the newer ones. That is one project I have to get done. update; 3/7 CSD. I forgot to update the Controlled spend. Thank you mid for pointing that out.

Really, really bad Saturday evening dinner for my birthday. Have spent the rest of the night crying, at the gym, crying again. Made some decisions amd taking some time offline. I just need the quiet space to process.

<Waves at everyone while popping more excedrine migraine>
Yes- I have to do all those dishes. Supposedly I am getting paid to clean over there since August or so- but I have yet to see any pay. Plus they won't get done otherwise.
We won't get into the other issues there- including the fact that DM thinks she is moving in with me if something happens to DGM and she can no longer stay in the house. (Newsflash- this is a 1 bedroom apartment and she is a rotten housekeeper and I am not moving to a first floor apartment- um no!)
It ate my update once, so I will post that again after I drink another couple cups of coffee so I don't toss the computer out the window.
Hope everyone is having beautiful weather and a good day.
startsmart- I have a red velvet cake in the oven- that should help.

Hugs STartsmart. Lots of hugs.
mizbear - Hugs. YUCK.
I am suppose to be working. But I really really don't want to. DH went to his mom's house to pressure wash her house. DS is suppose be napping (yeah not asleep yet) and all I want to do is veg in front of the TV. But DH says he wants to watch the Bears/Vikings game tonight with me and since he never wants to watch sports with me, I want to have everything done so we can watch the game. So, back to work. I guess.
Yesterday, we had a fun family day. We did go out for brunch ($20). Then we went to the Farm Park and spent $3 on a pumpkin, but DS got to see animals and see lawn-mower tractor-pulls and he had a blast. We then did our grocery shopping (did ok on the budget) and got DS home for a late nap. Then we had a thing at church to go to and even though we skipped the entertainment it was still 7:30 before we got home. But they fed us supper. Of course the lawn didn't get mowed, but we felt reconnected.

I need emergency prayers, good juju, candle burning- everything for DGM. She is having a very very bad day. Her O2 sats slipped to 80% earlier when she took her O2 off to use the rest room (I know for a fact the line will make it in the bathroom but she refuses to take it with her). Feel free to skip following rant: This is looking more and more like a last showdown. DB is being a total arrogant jerk about how if he can buy the house DM has to move out because he's not living with her because she is a lazy slob- but he doesn't pay rent or pay his child support on time or do much of anything. I am tired of the whole bunch to be honest. If we could keep the house- I would move back to DGM/DMs house but then DB would have to move. That would start a war. Sorry- he's not bringing his druggie GF in MY house. NOPE. Valium please. Or a really big drink. Now: On more official business: Question of the week: This is inspired by mid's post on mrslynch's blog . We all have different approaches to our personal finances. Many of us have had to change our way of thinking in terms of our personal finances at least once. So when it comes to personal finance, are you a dieter or a lifestyle changer? DO you look for that short term fix or a long term change? Challenge of the week: Think of one long term change you can implement by Jan 1st (long term changes take planning) that will assist you with your personal finance goals. If you are reaching your goals currently, think of one change you implemented that has helped you or one thing you may be able to improve upon.

QOTW- I have always been a dieter- but am trying become a lifestyle changer. My parents were horrible with money. I was good with money until I got sick and then my DM got her hands in my money because it was required that I have a representative. I am having to learn good habits and a balance. My businesses will fail if I don't have good money habits.
COTW- I am putting the electric bill on auto-pay and trying to get things onto the computer so that everything is right in front of me. My biggest financial challenge is learning to say no to people. Especially now that I know that they are not going to hold up their end of bargains.

Hi ladies!
i'm back from vacation and we had an amazing trip. going through the panama canal was completely awesome - and we got completely lucky by having a smaller ship in the lane next to us so we could see everything that happens in a transit. I could go on and on (and will likely on my blog) - but I won't bore you all here, And we spent less than budgeted! Yeah us!
startsmart - sorry the bday was so bad - hang in there
mizbear - hugs - i have no good advice - heck I've "divorced" what is is left of my crazy family - but remember to put yourself first
honey & others who have lost jobs - hugs and good thoughts - don't forget to use your network here when looking for jobs - you never know who we all know
mk - i'm in for secret santa and x-mas cards - my address is the same as last year
3cats - ouch on the cut! I love that you are doing b-day gifts again - we love using the ones you made for us
ses - did you buy LTC?
i know there is more - but i didn't take notes. I'll just follow along the rest of this month and jump in next month.

Question of the week: This is inspired by mid's post on mrslynch's blog . We all have different approaches to our personal finances. Many of us have had to change our way of thinking in terms of our personal finances at least once. So when it comes to personal finance, are you a dieter or a lifestyle changer? DO you look for that short term fix or a long term change?I'm a long term fix person - I drive myself nuts sometimes because I would like a quick fix - but those in the past generally led to more trouble. So now I plot and plan and implement changes I can live with for the long term. I find it works best for me because it forces me to be brutally honest about the underlying issues and address them. Challenge of the week: Think of one long term change you can implement by Jan 1st (long term changes take planning) that will assist you with your personal finance goals. If you are reaching your goals currently, think of one change you implemented that has helped you or one thing you may be able to improve upon.By January 1 we have to be *saving* ALL of DH's salary/retirement money and doing everything on mine. This mostly means watching eating out and impulse buying (of stuff and travel). If we can't do this he can't take early retirement or a buyout in April.

QOTW: I have been a long term sort of gal since I was a kid. Parents were great with money and they both were public servants so knew they would have a pension. I have scrimped and saved since before I was 10 years old. It has been hard to see my hard earned and saved money be parted with but it has allowed me to purchase several vehicles with cash and to survive 2 years of DF's being unemployed.
COTW: Sorry can't do this as we don't even know what our income will be with DF changing jobs. I am getting rid of my rental and that will be a HUGE relief.

MK- I am with ses on that. Selling the rental is a lifestyle change- you won't have that income- but you won't have the upkeep, headache, what-ifs either.

Happy Monday All -- We are still enjoying nice weather. I walked Friday and the last 10 minutes of my walk, it rained; it was refreshing though. I walked around DC yesterday. I should be able to get in a walk today at lunch.
spruby -- Welcome Back! mizbear -- hugs on the family drama! sheila -- still sending positive wishes for DH! SES -- I'm thinking of doing the Army Ten Miler next Oct. I currently meet the time limitation of being able to walk 5 miles in 65 minutes. moneysquirrel -- tough loss for the Saints yesterday.
QOTW: I am long-term type of planner. Always have been. COTW: I've already implemented this. I've changed to efficiently track my expenses on my spreadsheet. In a quick view, I can see how much I've spent in a particular category and I can see if I'm meeting the level at which my EF is based. My prior tracking had the major categories on a separate sheet so I didn't have the big picture in a glance.
