Goal: 20 NSD Update: 1/20 NSD Saturday DH and I hit up our Library's annual book sale- everything was $0.50 each. We ended up going twice (super busy when we went 10 minutes after it opened). Our two trips left us with a huge stack of books that cost us $9.50. Left over from last week's allowance even Ran our regular errands, babysit DNiece for a couple of hours- so we took her out to pizza for lunch. Yesterday we hung out at home, working around the house and the yard. Nothing too exciting.

This morning started off great! As part of my challenges and commitments from the retreat I started my Monday by buying fresh flowers. $12 for a great big bouquet from the grocery store. Then I got a free coffee from my favorite place (loyalty card). Last thing was getting some baskets for my freezer organization project and new flowers for Grandma's headstone.
Mom will be back to town this week for my aunt's mother's funeral. Oddly enough I was out at the cemetery on Saturday (the day grandma #2 died) to clean up the headstones. My aunt's parents are buried right across the way from my grandma. It's a small comfort.
Now I'm digging into work and catching up on some social stuff while listening to team calls from the last week. I don't need to keep close notes, just be aware of what happened so I can talk to my client at noon.
ETA- I have to share how happy I am that my surviving grandma is so cared for. My brother drove down and Grandma invited him over for lunch last week. When he got there she wasn't answering the door when he knocked so he just went inside to find her. The neighbor who was there and talking to Grandma is also a cop and when he heard my brother (and thought it was an intruder) he drew his concealed weapon and my brother came face to barrel. *snort* I love that the neighbor (who has totally been adopted) was so protective of my Grandma and is always packing. Even when he's out mowing his lawn or having cookies with a 91 year old woman.

Goals - 10 NS/15 CS/20 NEO
So far - 1 NS, 1 CS, 0 EOToday turned into a spend - my car was running low on oil and we didn't have any, so I drove the other car this morning, not realizing that my ID badge was in my car. So instead of using the free employee parking garage, I had to park downstairs. More of an inconvenience than anything - if I move my car every 3 hours, I can park for 9 hours for around $4. Stopping for oil on the way home, that'll be another $10. Could be worse for an "uncontrolled spend", I guess. At least I remembered my lunch

Lost another 2lbs, so at least the scale is going in the right direction. I had 2 bad days. This week I have my support group meeting and we go out afterwards so that will be a challenge. We are also having our adult birthday gathering on my side. That will have lots of food and wine. I will have to work out lots today thru Sat.
Reenee: I suppose my 3 sets of mixing bowls is over kill but oh well I have room for them all! I have metal ones from my deceased grandmother, a nice set of pyrex ones I don't have easy access to so I don't use them often. (but they do make great serving dishes) and my tried and true ones. They are the first set I ever received.

I am going to finish filling in the chart for September with the rest of the numbers. Can someone please tell me how to get the chart to post correctly? Copy and paste hates me.

Busy night of work and then out to the gym. I spent 30 min on cardio and then an hour of water aerobics, then cool down. Sooo tired. But planning on zumba tomorrow night!
I love the containers I got for my freezers! They sort my fruit, vegetables, ice cream, dairy, all kinds of good stuff. And I realized I have so so much food. At first glance a dozen tamales, 2 dozen enchiladas, 3 whole chickens, a small ham, turkey burgers and a bag of meatballs. Not to mention so much fruit for smoothies, vegetables and bread. I should be able to shave a lot of cash off my food budget for the next few months.
So far 1 NSD, 1 CSD, 2 MOANs

update; 3 NSD, 0 NEO. Doing good so far. Bills are paid and the car insurance that is due Friday will be put in the mail on Wednesday. I decided to give myself a cash allowance but not every week. I will give myself $20 and keep track to see how long it takes me to spend it. I took $20 out 2 weeks ago and I still have $5.73 left.

Today was a spend day for me, the result of poor planning and a severe case of over-sleeping. I've been having trouble getting to sleep at night, but I wake up between 8-9am everyday whether I like it or not. Since I go in to work around noon most days, that works well for me. So last night I didn't get to sleep until about 2am. I woke up about 4 times in the middle of the night (!#@#%#@$ Aunt Flow's in town). So when I woke up for the morning I was shocked to realize that it was already 11am!! I was supposed to drop off the extra fabric from the dresses I'm making to one of the bridesmaids this morning. So instead of dropping it off before work, I met her during my lunch break. And that meant that instead of coming home and eating leftovers, I had to grab a burger. I realized tonight that I never gave a Mr. Potential update. Well, after waiting quite a while to hear from him, I finally got a text message from a different number. He had to change his phone number because his ex wife had somehow gotten a copy of his phone bill and was calling everyone he'd been calling/texting and creating drama. So he's still in the picture, but I'm definitely going to be very cautious in moving forward. I have no interest in dealing with ex-wife drama. Sapphire – haha. I'm only stupid excited about the pots and pans because before I got them, I didn't have a pot big enough to boil spaghetti in. Making mashed potatoes for more people than just me required the use of both of my tiny little saucepans. Cooking a full dinner often required washing dishes half way through. LOL. Smokey – look at it not as “I just missed my goal” but instead “Look how close I got to my goal!” It's all in the semantics. dakota – I'm glad you won tickets! I won tickets too... to an improve comedy show on Friday night. I'm pretty sure I've gotten a shift trade ok'd so I can go, now I'm just waiting on Mr. Potential to let me know if he can go. Otherwise I've got to find a friend who doesn't have plans already. And my prayers go out to the kid who called the cops about the fighting parents. That brings up memories of keeping my little sister occupied and out of the house while my mom and dad had knock down drag out fights. Financialpeace – everyone has a method that works for them. It takes some trial and error, but maybe the allowance method will work for you. You seem to be doing good so far! Sheila – ooohhh, I love used book sales. I have to resist the temptation to go into the used book store. But thankfully my library is close, well stocked, and in a huge new, beautiful building. Start – and THATS why this is still the greatest place to live. People looking out for each other and being willing to protect those that need it. P.S. Your brother is a dimwit. LOL. Midwestern – I had to chuckle at you moving your car every few hours while at work. I had to do that in college. MK – There's no such thing as too many mixing bowls! Especially when there's Christmas goodies to be made. Mmmmm. Moneysquirrel - * waves * hi from outside of powerpoint. 3cats – Have I mentioned yet this week how amazing you are? You're amazing.

DB is coming home with me tonight after NCIS to help me convert everything into a chart in Word. He says that should be able to copy and paste without a problem. Unfortunately- I can't get the stupid chart to format correctly and he is working a second or third job today (yes he IS working now- still not cleaning or payin rent- but working)
reenee- If you have a Corelle outlet near you, watch for sales- I picked up their 4 piece Pyrex mixing bowls with lids for $15 a couple years ago. They are on FB and you can also get on their e-mail list- they send you all kinds of coupons and deals on the whole family of products.
My mother called- she wants to go grocery shopping today- grrr. I really wanted to wait until tomorrow...
Will catch up with everyone tonight.

Final September Update: 7 NSD + 16 CSD = 23 of 24 Original goal was 12 of each. We did manage NSDs on both Friday and Sunday, despite me being out of town and DH home on his own.
October Goals: 12 NS (with a "gas only" NS allowed each week) + 14 CS = 26. I am still allowing us one extra "spend" day this month due to the MIL having her surgery on Thursday and then being in rehab for the rest of the month.
Firebird's wedding was lovely. She and new DH were just beaming throughout the entire thing. They requested that guests not take pictures. I think I may have been the only guest honoring that request, but for those of you who have her on FB, pictures are slowly going up. They did a lovely tribute to his mom and her grandmother, both of whom they lost this year. It had the whole reception in tears and caused a number of his friends to have to leave the room for a minute. But it was overall a wonderful and joyous event.
This week is going to be a little stressful. Prior to her surgery, MIL has to go to the hospital and get some blood work done and an MRSA swab. I left very specific instructions that the hospital call me to schedule as she doesn't always hear her phone and NEVER checks her voicemail. Naturally, they called her, but did not call me (they didn't even have my number) or DH (they did have his number). So, I called them yesterday and got the blood work scheduled- for 3pm on Wednesday. We have to have her at the hospital at 6:15am on Thursday. She'll have surgery Thursday morning, be in the hospital over the weekend and then sent to a skilled nursing facility where she'll stay until she can walk again. The doctor expects it to take a "full two weeks". Given my MIL, that time frame seems short to DH and I, but it seems long to the MD, so we're hoping he's right. During the time she's in care, we want to get over to her place and do a deep clean- steam the carpets, pull her bed apart (she has a sleep number) and wash the cover. Maybe even steam clean the two recliners. That won't do a ton of good, but it should help with the smell at least a little. We're hoping that things will get better once she can move around easier and just standing up isn't a two minute process.
While MIL is at the hospital this weekend, I will be going to Geek Girl Con. I am very excited about this. I already have my weekend pass and intend to hand out with one friend in the event room she's running, help another friend at her company booth, and probably attend a panel or two. The weekend after that, we're going to a hockey game (tickets already purchased) with some friends, and the following weekend, we gain a roommate. But for the most part, we're back on schedule so things should seem a lot calmer than they were in September.
startsmart: Take care of that sunburn, but glad you had a great time while getting it. *hugs* on the losses in your family.
redruby: Welcome back. *hugs* to you in this month, too
ses: The apples on our trees are also a little small, though they range in size from golf ball to raquet ball- but they're all pretty tasty.
financialpeace: We've all changed our rules at least once, and some of us still change our rules from time to time to fit our situations- that's how I now have a "gas only" no spend day. As long as you find something that works for you, go for it.
reenee: Yay for new pots and pans. Sad for the mixing bowl. I still have my glass set that I got forever ago, but mostly because I barely use them now that we have a stainless steel set- I need things that don't break when I drop them. GREAT JOB on not buying something you didn't need.
I feel like there are some people I missed. I don't mean to be leaving you out- my mind just isn't working quite yet. I've got to get out of vacation mode. I have no idea how I'm going to work a full five days next week. (Talk about first world/priveleged problems, I know.)

I'm back from our trip. DS did fabulous. He was just a little superstar. 27 hrs of being strapped in his carseat and he didn't complain once. He had his books, he had his Grandma, he had cheerios and water and he was set. He was absolutely obsessed with trucks on the road. It was so cool. My MIL is great road trip partner. I think DH and I were both a little bit more relaxed with her with us (until she and DH started fighting which was kind of funny). It was fun to ride up front next to DH the whole time and have adult conversations. I don't know how Shiela and MK stand Minnesota drivers. I thought they were the worst ever. Anyway, work is crazy. I am trying to get organized again. I'm just now getting a chance to sit down and work. I've been on the phone all morning. We spent less than I budgetted for Thursday and Sunday nights and gas was cheaper than expected as well. So, we were probaby about $50 less than expected for those things. My MIL is going to give us 1/3 of the cost of those things to pay for her part of the trip although she did pay for most of the meals. Have a great month all (because the way things are going it will be the end of the month before I can do anything but work, take care of DS and work out). Hopefully I can stay on track being so busy.

Muttley- You have to be more specific- how were the drivers up here the worst ever? Comparing them to California here they tend to drive SOOOOO slow. The interstate gets a little hectic but on the regular highways they drive me crazy since the bulk of them are plain old two lanes. Plus you factor in harvesting season so there are a million and one trucks and combines driving down the highway too. I am glad that you had such a good trip

Sheila - LOL. Hmmm... well the irratating part on the interstes was if they were passing someone they would slow down next to the person they were passing. Lots of speeding up and slowing down for no reason. Up in Two Harbors, the main road north of town is 2 lane with a passing lane people would speed up in the passing lane and then immediately slow down (using their brakes, not even just coasting) at the end of the passing lane. By contrast, I drove through KC yesterday with my cruise control on. Now, part of that was lack of traffic, but part of it was a lot less of the speed up/slow down stuff that we saw in Minnesota.

Muttley- I totally agree- it aggrevates me to no end when I can't just set my cruise control and go. Many Minnesotans are in their own world half the time. It's that Minnesota nice thing- we feel bad passing someone so we want to slow down so they don't get their feelings hurt. Plus you always have to pull up along side the person you are passing so you can look over and see if you know them. ;D

Honey- I don't know why employers are so freakin' stupid. Based on some of the stupid people you work with that you've told us about they should have done everything possible to transition you to another position. Karma for you because if there's anyone I know can handle this challenge, it's you. Not that it will be fun of course but you are strong, capable and amazing.

MK: *hugs* to you and your family Honey: Let us know if there's anything we can do besides be a sounding board. mizbear, reenee & other captains: here is a link to a google docs version of the spreadsheet I'd been using to post people's final numbers docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AnBVZ1wV825bdGZPTzVOYUZ1TUI1NENKa0lLWV9McFE&hl=en_USAnyone who has the link can view and edit the spreadsheet. Sheet 1 is the master list, which I updated each month and then copied over to the second sheet where I deleted everyone we didn't have info for. The codes for the smilies are at the top and the bottom. The table code for ProBoards is built into the form. Just remember to change the month in line 1 and then you can just copy columns A-G over on to ProBoards and have it come out right. Let me know if you have any questions.

Honey- HUGS. I know it's cliche' but it's the company's loss and stupidity letting you go.
If I got anything wrong in the chart or if someone needs to be added- please let me know. Right now I am really considering going and stealing that 33 year old bottle of vintage whiskey from DB and drinking it.
BTW- Captains- use Google Chrome when handling charts through gmail- makes life easier.

Fun story from the life of Muttley. Last night, I finally get myself settled down to get some work done from home. I get everything to work out on my project and my computer turns off!!!! It has been doing that a lot lately and I'm wondering if it is overheating, but i don't actually know. So, it is 11:30 at night and I'm like ok I'm going to bed. Then I wake up to hearing the mouse trap in the kitchen spring. I'm not sure the time (I thought 3:30, but if that is the case, the night really sucked). I keep hearing the mouse rustle around and the trap move around on the tile floor. I thought the mouse had been caught just not real well, like a leg or something. Since DH was actually sleeping (something that has been an issue the last month), I let him sleep. At 5:30, I finally shut the door between our bedroom and the kitchen. I get up this morning and take my shower and I figure there will be a dead mouse in the kitchen this morning. Nope. The mouse trap was not sprung and had been moved a good 5 feet from its spot behind the fridge to almost exactly in front of my door. There is NO MOUSE IN SIGHT!!!! DH is going to go on a mission today while I'm at work to kill the mice. We had 2 in traps when we got back from our trip. I swear we are gone for a weekend and they think they can just move right in!!! ICK!!! I would be very very scared if I was moving into the house next door that has been empty for over a year.

Honey: Lots of hugs to you Great job negatiating another weeks worth of work. What kind of company do you work for? Muttley: Do you get a lot of mice? How do they get in? my rental that we lived in first for 2 years we never had a problem with mice but then again we always had cats. I have had a few renters that have had a problem with mice but am not sure why. Beautiful weather here, I met my sister at the dog park. The leaves are beautiful shade of red, yellow, green and orange rustling in the breeze. It was a great walk and beautiful temps and the puppies were great.

Not sure of my numbers at the moment – I need to find my receipts for the last couple of days and get them entered. shanendoah – Thanks for the update on Firebird. Glad to hear she is happy. Muttley – Way to go Ben! I could just him ensconced like a little prince surrounded by his things with grandma next to him at his beck and call. Mittenkitten – Sorry to hear about your grandmother. I have always said that for many families the end of life process is much harder on them than for their loved one. Hang in there. Muttley (2) – BOL on the mystery of the moving trap!! Oh man, did I just get an idea for a funny story or song parody about that! MittenKitten (2) - My current company is a biotechnology division of a major medical device company. We focus on heart catheters and treatment devices. I work primarily in the HR department and have been here 7 years. Before this I worked for seven years at a multi-national pharmaceutical company until my department was moved to another state. For them I was the Admin and Project Coordinator for a group of 17-25 researchers, executives and nurses working on human clinical trials. Prior to that I was the Office Manager for eight years at a company in Seattle that brokered air time between ad agencies and media outlets. Ladies – Thank you all SO much for your kind words here and on FaceBook. I am at work today and compiling lists of what I need to get done and what help sheets I need to create. I am not telling people at work yet that I am leaving since A) the date may move and B) I really don’t need or want the distraction of them wanting to do a post-game analysis of each little bit of minutia. I need to just focus and get through what I have set as a goal for myself. Tooth – So it turns out my dentist is an even bigger idiot than I had given him credit for. The molar is NOT broken – there is just some sort of infection along the gum line – which the oral surgeon gave me horse pills of penicillin for. Oh, and have I mentioned that for the last week I have been sick as a dog? Fevers between 100-102, a hacking cough that feels as though someone is rubbing a steel file along the inside of my sternum and wet rumblings in my chest. With my luck it’s probably bronchitis … because the penicillin for my tooth isn’t doing much at all for the chest thing. When people hear me cough and say “Wow, you sound awful” I have been replying with “Really? Then that’s an upgrade because I feel like sh!t”Ahhhh ….. if it wasn’t for black humor I would be having NO fun at all right now!!!
