Today was my spend day as I picked up more veggies at the co-op, treats for nanowrimo and coffee for the weekend. Then home to finish a birthday present and work on my projects. I finally finished getting all my re riots in order including ones from last scented. Yikes glad to have that done. Worked on my rag rug and I'm probably a fouth of the way done. It's turning out to be narrower than I though but nice and tight in the weaving.I'll have to add pictures to my blog soon. I should just have minimal spending tomorrow, I'm meeting the boy for dinner and need to pick up a bottle of wine (or two...). Working on my strategy for November too!

Update: 19/20 NSD
QOTW: I should be able to make my goal. Monday will be a NS because of coming home after work to see the trick or treaters.
COTW: Hope to get all of our errands run today so tomorrow is a peaceful day of relaxing. DH and Miss Pants decided that we all need to go swimming at the gym on Sunday. That will be a nice relaxing way to spend the afternoon. She is so bossy with DH and DS and they just let her rule their world when she is with us. Its quite amusing to watch.
Today we are driving down to hopefully pick up DH's new to him vehicle. He has been really diligent about pricing them out and making the phone calls. He is looking for another Jeep since he knows how to work on them and can do a decent amount of work himself. Have cash in hand for the purchase.
startsmart: Yes- empowering him and making him do the legwork seems to have had a big effect on him. He even thanked me for it. I didn't have to take much of anything out of our checking account to fund the new truck. He sold some of his gun collect (his dad's guns- I am not a fan of guns). Sold the totaled out truck to a friend as a project car. Cashed in our change jar. etc. So he was able to come up with nearly all of his new to him car budget on his own.

Beside doing laundry and getting groceries and gas, The rest of the month will be no spend. So that leaves me with; 26 NSD, 6 CSD, and 2 EOD. I went to Pizza Hut for supper last night. I now have 3 more meals in the freezer from there. I always buy a large, eat 2 or 3 pieces and take the rest home and freeze them for future meals. Since they are running their $10 any size, I got 4 meals for $10. As for my lack of life on this end, we got a new District Manager for the deli and she is from hell. Excuse me, I meant from Harrisburg. I'm sorry, Harrisburg is no where near like Bellefonte or State College. The people here don't eat the same stuff or like the same stuff. We know what our customers like and what they don't like. We know how they want their stuff sliced. We know our customers. Why does she think everyone is the same? She came in and cleaned out all of our things that we were using, brushes to clean the slicers, bowls to put ingredients in to mix, items we use to decorate. Then she proceeds to ORDER us to do things and just stands there doing nothing. She has been there over a week and maybe has waited on 1 customer. Yes I said 1, one, customer. Meanwhile, she has the whole group in uproar. At least 3 or 4 of us are threatening to look for other jobs. I almost walked off but the other 2 whom I work with talked me out of it. Then she tells me I have to get an attitude adjustment after I asked her a simple question as in, what cheese do you want in when the white runs out. She asks what do I mean. I said the cheese in the case, there is no more in the back, what do you want in. She wants to know if there is any pre-sliced in the back. I say yes and she says put that in. I say okay and go back to get some and she says change my attitude and I tell her, under my breath, where to go as I enter the cooler. Then I find out that I have to work with her next Friday night with another person and I am dreading it very much. I am sorry I stopped drinking because I would definitely need one stiff drink before work. Sorry for the long rant.

3cats - ugh she sounds awful. Hopefully she'll relax a bit. Hang in there!! Make some of your favorite tea instead!
Having our Halloween party tonight. While fighting a nasty cold. If I hadn't already spent so much money on decorations and games and food stuff, I'd consider cancelling. But it's my favorite holiday and I've been planning for months. I'm feeling better as the day goes on but this morning I couldn't even stand for longer than a minute before I thought I was going to pass out. And I keep going from chills to being really hot. DayQuil is helping. I'm just going to be sure not to touch food. That's what blue is for! He's out doing the last minute shopping. I'm cleaning at home in spurts. I figure as long as I sit a lot tonight I'll be fine, and I won't drink a lot, if any. And my sexy witch costume might turn into bathrobe witch haha. We'll see. Lunch should help. Mmmm chicken noodle soup.
Hope you all are doing well!

Who is toasty? I know she has another name but for the life of me I can not think of it. I was looking at the birthdays and found her listed for the 4th. And smoky's birthday is the 2nd. Gin1984 has a birthday on the 6th. Beej has one on the 7th. That is the first 7 days of November. I will also post these on the November thread. Have we come up with a name yet for November? It seems like the months are going by faster and faster.

26/27 NDS
I seem to be dragging today. Not much motivation to do anything. I got out early to get my annual flu shot, went to breakfast with a friend, sort of straightened up the kitchen, visited for a couple of hours with a cousin passing through town and gathered up the ingredients for some vegetable soup. Of course I haven't found the umpf to chop the vegetables yet. I have the packet of paperwork to fill out for the LTC insurance sitting on the table--but none of it is done yet. Maybe I just need to curl up for a snuggle with the kitties
3cats--"Toasty" is Sharing. How old is your new manager? She sounds like someone with little supervision experience trying to act experienced by being &itchy. I want to know how you are. You were really under the weather for awhile, I hope that is all a thing of the past.
Mizbear-- is there anyone near you, or on the way, going to your conference who might be willing to "carpool." Is there any way to put the word out, there are many of us out there who hate flying. I agree with MK about giving serious thought to whether it is cost effective to go to a conference this year. Won't there be one next year? Although I realize you really want to go this year.
MrsL--I think it is fabulous that your writing career is taking off. You have put so much into it.
Red--Have fun at your party tonight.
Muttley-- It sounds you have your budget issues of a couple of months ago coming under control.
Reenee--So proud of you for getting the student loan paid off!
Dakota--I am really enjoying my new job and getting more and more comfortable with it.
Sheila--I hope your life looks up next week. I think you need to turn Miss Pants loose on the "problems" in your life right now.
Shannen--how are things going with your MIL? I noticed within months a big saving after I replaced a bunch of windows. There is a big windstorm outside right now and not a single draft inside.
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and holiday.

27/20 controlled/no spends. Last month I totalled up my spending and This month was a good month. Not sure what happened last month..... 3cats: YUCK seriously what is WRONG with some people. Too bad you can't tell her where to stick her attitude and where to go without losing your job. I agree with you completely, you know your customers and they are not the same as where she is from so WHY is she trying to throw her weight around when the customers are happy? Red: Hope you had fun! Went out to dinner with DF tonight without kids. Spent gift cards so cost nothing, then went to a mall and got my free Godiva Chocolate for being in their club but bought nothing. Went to Claires and thought about buying some Halloween hair barretts BUT they had a BOGO sale on them and I couldn't find anything else I really wanted so I bought nothing.... Really put what I want on sale but don't tell me I HAVE to buy something else....

Update: 18 NS day & 7 CS days
Today I am counting as a CS day. Finally got the new TV that I been plannig to get for months. The dollars to pay for it have been in saving for a while. Had to wait until DSS was able to help with it. Now with the exception of some scarves to use as valances for the windows my living room is finally finished. I repurposed an area rug for the use under the coffee table. I haven't used it in a while with all the renovations and realized that it was the correct size and that the colors were a perfect match. Could not have planned it better if I tried.
3cats -- Sorry to hear about the work situation. Hope things change for the better.
Time for bed. Good night all!

Had fun at the party last night but ended up going to bed before the last guests left because I had a migraine. And today I'm definitely sick. Blargh. Trying to do my homework for my classes in between fits of fever and headache. Not sure when I'll get to copyediting... at least I have a week or so to do that.
Mrs lynch - congrats!!! that is so awesome!

I am done with the CSD. I ended up with 6 which included bills and groceries and gas and tomorrow will be a no spend day unless the cat goes into labor and can't deliver because she is so small. Yeah, the kitten that was dropped off at my place was pregnant and I don't think it has been a month since she came here. She is really big in the belly but doesn't look more than 6 months old. I broke down and am letting her stay in the other room that isn't done yet. She has food and water and a litter pan. My only problem with her is that she is not a mouser. I have a place in a box with a blanket in it for her to stay. I have no heat but it is out of the wind and weather. If it gets really cold, I will put her in the bathroom where I do have heat. I don't want to put her in with my cats because I don't know if she has fleas or anything else. I am going to take her to the vet as soon as I can make an appointment and get her checked out. Since she will be an outside/inside cat, she will need shots and, of course with out saying, she will be fixed. I was going to do that anyway, but her condition will not allow that at this time. I really don't like people that just drop animals off because they know some people will take care of them. Well, I have got to post to excel and get the numbers done. I have a feeling November will end up being a spend month, especially on the cats. And I need front tires but I think I am going to use the gift cards I got for the year and get them in December.

3cats--some vets will take the kittens early if the cat is small or too young. My vet took the kittens early and fixed Onyx because she was so small. She would not have survived the delivery otherwise. Doesn't hurt to ask.

Mittens has an appointment with the vet on Thursday, my day off, and the other 2 have appointments next Friday for their shots. The vet only has morning appointments on Fridays. I work evenings so Friday morning for shots.

Morning all -- QOTW: I have no clue how many NS I have for this month. After 7 years of home ownership, I decided it is time to decorate the Master Bedroom. I found a picture for inspiration and have made it my own. My bed should be delivered and assembled next week. I've been purchasing furniture and purging things around the house. My comforter probably won't be purchased until the white sales in January. start -- exercising in the winter in DC for me usually means exercise tapes. Last spring, before I had to stop because of my knee, I was doing Taebo and strength training during the cooler months. If the temps stay in the 50s and the wind is minimized, I can walk outside. This winter I hope to incorporate pilates and Zumba into my house workout. I have a goal to walk in the Army 10 miler next October. Luckily for me, I have the warmer months to train. red -- Happy Anniversary and welcome home from the cruise!!! mizbear -- Ok, I travel pretty frequently. Flying from the DC Metro area into Texas you will probably be on a Regional Jet. The Regional Jets do not have a middle seat. I am flying from DCA to Miami in Dec and will be on a Regional Jet. As for meds going through TSA should not be a problem, just pack them together. Packing should be efficient. TSA has complimented me on my packing skills. Since this is a team trip, is it possible you could travel with a team member. This would enable you to take drugs for anxiety. Now, as for the pat downs and what not. This is not as bad as the media makes it out to be. It really isn't. However, if you cannot deal with TSA properly, then you should not fly on a commercial airline. If you and other team members can charter a private plane that would be your best option for flying. I have no clue as to the source of your uncle's views on Southwest. SWA has NO fatalities on its flying aircraft, but they do not have Regional Jets, and thus the middle seat. Other than the middle seat, I love SWA. Many airlines are phasing out 3 class planes, even on overseas flight. Business Class is replacing those seats. If you do decide to drive, maybe you can get a team member to ride with you to keep you company. Texas is a long way to drive. 3cats -- Sorry about the work issues. Toasty/sharing didn't move over to the new boards. mrslynch -- Congrats on the new writing job!!! reenee -- Congrats on the Student Loan payoff!!!!! SES -- yeah for an improvement with the windows. Sat was nasty here, so I stayed in the house all day. I did not get any snow and that is fabulous as far as I am concerned. It's slowly warming up and by Friday, it will be a balmy 65.

I am bringing up carpooling for anyone who is frightened of flying or does not have the money to fly at the November meeting/training. I strongly believe after talking to my other uncle, doctors, and all of you that my uncle who is talking about me being put off a plane somewhere is simply being a jerk (which he is known for where I am concerned). Also after talking to everyone, I don't think flying will be so bad- again, I think it's more my uncle talking/ the media thing. I can pack pretty well. Everything will fit in one bag going. It's coming back that we have stuff- so I will probably ship it to myself FedEx or UPS. I wear jeans, so for a weekend- I will only need one pair. The shoes on my feet and we do need one nice dress- well, I like that no wrinkle stuff like what Chico's sells- awesome for packing!
In other news- I can't figure out where I got 38 days in October. I added 3 NS over the weekend, but need to go back over the past 2 weeks and make sure I ave the other totals correct. Will post tonight.
We may be losing our postal processing plant.
The gas station down the road is on fire, so I can't stay on long. We may lose power/ be evacuated. I will check in with everyone later.

Update: 12 NS + 13 CS = 25 of 26I think this is what my total will end up being. Junebug has responded to this last round of meds, but not as completely as would be hoped. We'll call the vet today and see if they want to just extend her Rx by 5 days or if we need to bring her in. Either way, I expect to spend more money at the vet today. Which reminds me that I need to transfer money from savings in order to pay off the credit card all the vet bills have gone on this month. The other plan for tonight is to go over to the MIL's and vaccuum and steam clean her carpets. Her place is small so it shouldn't take more than an hour or so. She is recovering fairly well. She's feeling well enough to be a PITA. On Saturday she called and asked us to get her out of there. We asked where did she think she'd go, as she can't get in to our house (stairs) and she can't get out of bed on her own, so she can't go to her house. Then yesterday, she called DH, he answered, she didn't say anything. He hung up. 5 minutes later she called him again, then told him she didn't want to talk to him, she wanted to talk to me. (My number is in her phone under my name, but she called him.) He sweetly didn't hand the phone to me and asked what she wanted. She said her phone needed to be charged. He told her where the charger was, she said she couldn't reach it. He said next time a nurse or orderly comes in, ask them to do it for you. She didn't respond so he hung up. 2 minutes later my cell phone rings. Her. I repeat the ask a nurse or oderly to do it, I am not driving over there just to plug in your phone (she knows DH wouldn't, why she thinks I would, I have no idea). And this is especially since we'd been there already that day and she hadn't said anything about the phone. But I expect we'll visit her this afternoon either before or after going to clean her house. Physically, she's fine. She's not having pain in the knee, she can move it fairly well. She's supposed to get the staples out tomorrow and then they can do more vigorous PT. Surgeon thought she'd be in care for 2 weeks (so out next weekend) but I think it might be a few days more than that. So this weekend, following in mrsl's footsteps, I got my own domain. All of my blogs can now be found from one central location. Plus I can link to other projects I'm working on. I'm pretty excited about it. If you're interested, you can find it at www.erinshanendoah.com[/b] ses: I am certain replancing the windows will help with heating/cooling costs, but we just don't have the cash to do it now, and I'm not certain I want to try and replace them in winter. We'll save up the money from rent and get it done this spring. By then we should be done paying on the basement work, which frees up another $400/month to go toward new windows. Hope everyone had a great weekend, and for those that trick or treat tonight, be safe.

Update: I have absolutely no clue what my numbers are this month but I will start fresh tomorrow for November. I am going to try to be more active on the thread but will be MIA this weekend as R2B2 is coming for a visit so we'll be hitting all the local spots - I've even got tickets for Churchill Downs. Lucked into those since this weekend is Breeder's Cup - going on Sunday so hopefully it won't be too crazy. Hoping to stay w/in budget for her visit so we'll see how that goes. Happy Halloween everyone - be safe tonight!

Yowzers, when I logged on this morning I thought "it's almost November!" - do we have a new thread name ready? Some ideas:
Noting Spending November Nothin' unNecessary November Never too late November Nix Your Spending November Not About Spending November (hint: it's about awareness)
Also, in one of my flailing attempts to hit the snooze button this morning, I apparently turned off my alarm clock. So I'm getting a late start and have a client call coming up soon. I'll be back later with the preliminary end of month tally and an update. You have a few more hours to tally ladies! Woooo!

smokey--have a great time with r2b2! shanen--congratulations! i love having my own domain. i actually just purchased a second for a joint venture i'm working on with some other bloggers. it's actually kind of fun. i feel slightly important. mizbear--glad to hear that you're working out the travel situation. renee--if i haven't said so already, congrats on your student loan payoff! that must be a wonderful feeling. sheila--glad dh is stepping up. 3cats--toasty is aka sharing the simple lifestyle or sharing. red--welcome back!
so i think it's time to actually get my business rolling. i'm now up to 3 staff writing positions with more on the way. i'm hoping to secure some additional advertising as well, which is good timing because the husband is literally on the verge of a nervous breakdown due to his beyond the pale hostile work environment. even with all that's going on, i still care for his well-being. and someone needs to financially provide for our family if he does need to quit.
question--what kinds of time management strategies do you all use? i'm starting to get in a bit over my head with all that i have going on and i'm afraid i'm going to slip up big time.

Final October Update: 16 NSDThank you for all the warm wishes on my student loan payoff! I can't even begin to describe how that feels... but money wise, it puts anywhere between $250 and $300 a month directly back into my pocket. The one little splurge I'm adding to my monthly expenses is adding internet service at the apartment. At $35 a month, it's not a huge thing to add in. And I'll need it when I start school anyway. Speaking of school, I'll be starting in April rather than January. I need a little break between the super-tight payoff budget and the super-tight student budget. So I can spend on the important things. Like clothes. And shoes. Because as of right now, I own the following shoes: slingback off white flats, black flip-flops, worn out athletic shoes, brown clodhoppers (lol, technically they're a really expensive brand of barn shoes I got on super-discount like 5 years ago), brown slide on sandals with a low heel, and black strappy heels I can't walk in. November Captains: Dakota, Sheila, azmom, and mizbear, are you up for a week in November? The weeks are: 6-12, 13-19, 20-26, 27-12/3. I've done a week each of the last two months, so I'm hopeful I can take this month off. I'll be happy to help with support/questions/etc.

Update - 9 NSD, 15 CSDSpent about $2K on tools and a tool chest this weekend. Work is kicking my ass. I wrote something like 14 pages today so my brain is not formulating sentences as it should. Happy Halloween! I will check in on the November thread on Thursday or Friday when I come up for air... And someone smote me today!
