Monday was a NS day. Yesterday was a spend and today will be too. We have to enroll mini-D in gym class for next month. Yesterday there was a groupon for a B&B about 2 hours south of here. Muttley, it is near Mound City, KS and the rates were between $70-120 per night depending on the room, if you and DH need a night away. Cedar Crest is the name, look on Groupon under getaways, I think it was on sale for a week.
Hugs to MrsLynch, Shelia and MK. Hope things on the home front resolve themselves.
Glad to see you SES. How is the part time job?
Has anyone heard from AZmom lately?

dakota - Wow that place looks nice! I wish we had someone in town that would watch DS overnight. My MIL and BIL will watch him for a date, but not overnight. I think we are resigned to dropping DS off at my parents house and hitting someplace in IL.
I've shared this a couple places, but still funny. I was running last night on my running trail and I'm on the back (dark) side of the trail and there is an animal on the edge of the trail. THe neighbor's yard light makes it hard to see, but I'm thinking it is a cat. I run past it and look back, and oh no not a cat, but a POSSUM!!! YUCKY. And on that note, I am running a 5k on NOvember 19th! Woohoo. I am very excited and a little nervous because my mileage/endurance isn't there yet, but I've still got 3 weeks and I am over the hump and up to 20 minutes straight.

mrsl: So proud of you and everything you're doing to follow your dream of writing for a living. *hugs* to you on the family front as well.
3cats: I know I'm far away, but really, if there's anything we can do...

Exciting news! I just sent the agreement to a new client who wants to start work this week. He's the same one who passed up his business card in the middle of the conference last month with the note "I want to hire you!" and he's great! Ideal client, connected and in my coaching circle group so I know he has great strategies to implement and grow the business Otherwise today has been slow - I'm working on a few projects for a Pinterest challenge, writing my newsletter and excited to see sbcalimom tonight ETA- wooo hoo signed the contract and ready to get started with my new client! I'm jazzed because I was much clearer on my offer and able to charge 3 times more than I did my last client and he didn't even blink!

No one came to the party. Oh well more BLT dip and crackers for me ;D I have a mondo to do list for the weekend. I have a business trip to take this summer and I need advice. I am planing on driving because flying is too much of a hassle for multiple reasons- 1. I have a chip in my breast that isn't supposed to set off metal detectors but does sometimes and if someone touches me I take it as a threat to my safety. It's one of those freaky things about suffering from paranoia. 2. With all of the medications I take it's too much hassle to try and get through airport security. 3. I have only flown twice round trip. When I went to Colorado, I did fine. When I went to Utah, I had panic attacks, got air aick and everything else. My mother doesn't like the idea of me driving but thinks that me flying is a worse idea. She wants me to see if there is train service to Texas where I am going (she really does want me to have motion sickness). My uncle flies all the time and doesn't see what the big deal is (my other uncle says I shouldn't be flying because HSA peeps are not trained to deal with touch me not bipolar chicks who can feasibly whoop their a$$). My aunt says I shouldn't go because it's frivolous. My uncle says as long as I plan my drive ahead I will be fine. I also have a friend up North I want to visit whom I haven't seen in 21 years. He suggested I take a month, make the drive to Texas, make the drive back, wash my clothes, repack, get a good night's sleep, etc and get moving again. His only suggestion is that I purchase a GPS for my car instead of using an ADC map. He said this will be a good purchase as my business grows. I know many of you travel- opinions? I obviously can't load up on dramamine or something flying alone and there is still the panic issue. I know to look ahead for deals on hotels to stay at along the way, try to stick to major chains.... the business conference is held at a hotel and there is a block of rooms already reserved for us. Our girls go in together so our cost is lower. If you don't know anyone, you can put in a request for a roomie to split the cost - luckily my unit is fairly large.

mizbear - I'm a road tripper. I prefer road tripping to flying. However, I have never driven on a long road trip and had to stay in a hotel by myself (i have at a conference, but not on the road). For one person, flying will probably be cheaper.

muttleyn- The big concern we're running into is that if I have a panic attack- is that they can have me detained, arrested, thrown in the looney bin or whatever they want under these post 9/11 rules. Then I am stranded. My one uncle says that is the whole reason I should drive because there is no law to protect me. My other uncle thinks they should throw me in the looney bin anyway. He says if I "can't control myself in public" that I have no business being in public. Nice that he doesn't have to worry with panic atticks or anything.

I don't know enough about flying (done it 3 times) or the rules to advise you there. I do agree that a gps is great, but it does not replace a map or being able to read road signs. We had some fun times using GPS a few times, but overall it is a neat gadget to have. We never would have found our way around Birmingham without it when we went to my BFF's wedding.

mizbear--while I can't help you with the paranoia and other mental health issues, I believe that if you have a device or surgical metals or something like that in your body, you can get a doctor's note to present at security. They have to make accommodations for people with pacemakers and such. I don't understand why the RX meds would pose a problem. Hopefully spruby will chime in because she has excellent travel advice. While a GPS is a good idea, you must, must, must have a map as well. On another note, can you really afford to take a month of travelling? Won't that hurt your business (which, I'm sorry, I must have missed it, is what?)

I am doing Celebrating Home (the old Home Interior) now and finishing my medical transcription stuff still. My business is starting off slow, but the national thing for CH is in the summer in TX. I can split the trips so it wouldn't hurt the business too much- during that time is generally one of the better times to take trips because the promotions are slower I understand. I don't want to miss the business end of the conference, but I am deathly afraid of the possible consequences of me flying. There is also the issue of getting me to and from the airport. We have a small airport here in town, but that means a private plane- which means $$$. Although, if I could suck up to my brother's ex FIL (he likes me anyway), I might be able to get a private flight all the way to TX. I used to know someone who would do that for me and my friends- but his wife made him sell the plane...

mizbear - some questions:
1) what is the longest distance and number of days in a row that you have ever driven? was there anyone with you? if so, how was driving split and what is the longest you've done alone
2) what's your budget for this trip - at least the getting to and from there part?
3) if the $$ worked out for flying - is there someone you could take with you (and send right back) who could be your advocate/calming presence on the trip? it would have to be an adult, familiar with your medical situation, reasonable & articulate who could advocate for you and help you stay calm
4) how about someone who could drive with you (road trip!) - and then you pay to fly them home and fly them back to road trip back with you?
5) I know you have a new(er) car - what is the mileage? do you have a cc? is it in good shape? can you afford 3 oil changes? do you have AAA?
I love to travel and just worked with 2 people on road trips to TX and would be happy to help you plan one if you do that. But this is not an easy road trip on your own.
And I will be honest - I am a bit scared to fly and flying these days is hell. Unfortunately anything can and will happen and you have to be able to stay calm.
And I say this with total respect (and have said this to non-digital friends who have wanted to travel for work) - is this really necessary and does the business really support it? You don't have to explain to us - but figure out what this will cost - all in, how much your business has made to date (or by trip date) and how much more you will have to make post trip (if any) to cover the cost. This conference may be a total boost for your plans - but be able to articulate how. Let's say you double your current business because you go. Does that mean it takes 2 months vs 4 months to pay for the trip or 12 months vs 24 months? *I don't know the economics of your business - so I don't know how that will work.
Also, you have a lot going on - multiple family issues, this new business, your school, your health, your singing and chili cook off, and the holidays. This will be an expensive trip. Think hard about why you are going and maybe the money would be better spent going to visit old friends in another area to get a break. And then do this the following year when you have more experience in the business.
Just things to consider/

My niece has a shunt in her brain and can not go through metal detectors. They can cause the shunt to malfunction. She has an official looking letter from the doctor explaining the situation and is escorted around the metal detectors

My car is a 2010 Yaris 5 door with less than 15,000 miles on it. The oil changes and maintenance are paid for through my car payments and I can have them done at any toyota dealer. I have Toyota roadside assistance and state farm roadside assistance. I have done distance driving, but it has been a while. I think the longest was when my now ex-husband and I drove to South Carolina for the church's National Conference before we were married. I stopped in North Carolina just before the state line to SC got out of the car and told him I wanted to go back home. I was tired of him yelling at me. I was driving on a learner's permit! I used to drive to Northern DE and Southern VA a lot. The trip to VA was a 5-6 hour one way drive. In a van full of teens. I do all the driving now pretty much anyway though. Taking someone with me unless I can find another designer who would rather drive is out of the question. My exec is getting all of this past year's prices together for me so I have an idea- there is a break for signing up early. I do not have a CC, but I have Visa debit card, so if I have the money put away, I can use the debit card as a CC to reserve rooms, etc. However, my bank said it should not be difficult for me to get a CC if I need one for travel- but I would rather not have one at all. This conference is all about boosting business. It's also about boosting our self-esteem- I got to watch some of the videos from this past year. It's product launch, and business talk and confidence boosters- like if you have a bad month (my first month has been slow) not to let it get you down- they give you business tips for dealing with the professional end and coping tips for dealing with the feeling of "I really suck at this"- even if you don't. If grandmother could be left home- I would get DM to go with me- she is great with road trips as long as she is not on chemo- but that's not an option.
I am already working the trip expenses into the budget. They are replacing a different line (I am cutting back on the SB to make sure I can afford the trip)

Still here! A bit behind...
SES - haha yeah mine send gifts to other people's pets...
had a good time on the cruise, relaxed, ate a lot, still recovering I think. A bit of rerouting due to weather but we weren't doing shore excursions anyways so we didn't care. Was good to get home to the kitties though. They were all over us the first few days.
came home and turned on my computer and the hard drive is dead. Blue tried so hard to fix it and feels terrible because he works in computers and "should" be able to fix it, but it's dead. It's TWO FREAKIN MONTHS OLD!! I'm so POd. And it's such a hassle to get them to fix it and verify the warranty, blue just went and bought a new HD and is loading up the software again. SO glad I didn't get too far on our wedding album, and wicked glad I've been procrastinating my latest freelance project. It would have killed me to start over. Now I just need to find my copy of Word 2010... I put it in a "safe place" that I can't remember now. Last night was supposed to be a relaxing night because I feel like I'm getting sick and ended up being both me and blue frustrated and upset about the computer. I don't know what it is, but I just kill electronics. They see me coming and die. I hate it. I hate that I feel like people shouldn't trust me for freelance work because my computer always has issues. Sigh. Sorry for the rant.
SES - yay on the bay window! We're getting our back window turned into a bay window in November. It'll be more energy efficient and let in more light, and give the cats a place to chill. Got a good deal. Hope I'm as happy with ours as you are with yours!
sheila - glad things are going well with dad.
mizbear - hoping for the best for DGM
honey - yay the girls are gone!!! hope you can relax a bit in your own home again now.
start - loved the fighting icon you used for the girls. perfect. and glad things are going so well for you!
I'm going to guess I have 3 NSDs this month.
mrslynch - glad things are going well!! great to hear you so positive!
mizbear - what issues do you have with airport security and your meds? I go through with 6-10 pill bottles in my carryon all the time and have never had issues. Can't help on your other points though... good luck!

I just can't seem to catch a break lately. I managed to lock myself out of the system today and it took 3 of us to get me in to change my password. I also realized today that it's the 27th and I haven't done any of the 8 hours worth of work it takes to do the monthly company compliance stuff. I also need to somehow manufacture a few more hours in my work week in order to hire and train at least 2 more seasonal team members. The good news: one of my seasonal employees from last year has decided to come back for this year's season. I'm really glad that she's willing to do that.
Over my weekend I got a lot accomplished. I finally finished one of my slipcovers, recovered the dining set chairs, price shopped for tires for my car, checked out a ton of books from the library, and did a major cleaning in my apartment. And rearranged the living room. I'm trying to find an arrangement that will let me put a Christmas tree in. Oh, and I also spent half a day with mom, she took me to lunch then we went to a local farm for pumpkins, gourds, and corn.
I don't have my numbers with me, but I'm somewhere around 15.
Tomorrow is pay off day for my student loans. I think I'll take myself out to breakfast to celebrate. ;D

I talked to the doctor this afternoon. She doesn't see where my meds or the chip should be an issue either- but both her and my uncle made the same suggestion about flying so I will throw this one out to you:
Even though I am trying to be very frugal- their suggestion was to A) stay away from airlines where there have been notable complaints about passenger treatment- that is not going to make me more comfortable. B) Try to fly business if I can afford it. It's usually roomier in business and I will be less likely to have a panic attack. Or fly I think it's called "coach"? It's not economy seating, but it's not as expensive as business. My uncle said he thinks that's what I flew when I went to Utah (what he doesn't know is that I also sat with a church choir from the DC area- I wouldn't have felt safer sitting with the pilot himself ;D)
My other uncle says that if I have a panic attack, they land the plane, boot me off and put me on the no fly list. Then arrest me and put me away permanently in a mental hospital.
reenee- YAY!
I am still definitely driving up north to my BFFs- there is no airport near their place.

mizbear: It's first class, business class, then coach (also called economy). And maybe an airline like Delta or American will have a 3 class plain for cross country flights, but I've never been on 3 class plane except for international trips, and I've flown from WA to NC. First class can be incredibly expensive, more than double a coach seat, so another option is to do what they want obese passengers to do and that is buy two tickets and get seats next to eachother. That way you can have the window (though I'd suggest aisle, as it would be easier for you to stand and walk around, with a guarantee that no one is crammed in the middle seat next to you. However, you will need to remember to check in both tickets and make sure the flight attendents/airline staff understand so that they don't try to fill the seat next to you with a standby passenger, or if you're feeling good and allow them to do so, make sure you get the compensation they offer people who give up their seats for overbooked flights, since you did purchase two tickets. Another option is to coordinate with one of the other ladies from your area (you said there were a number of you) and contact the airline to get yourselves seated next to each other. That way you are traveling with someone you know and that's who you'll be next to. Find out what security measures they have at your local airport. Knowing in advance what you'll be asked to do will help cut down on the panic. You could also ask your MD to prescribe a mild sedative that you can take once you're on the plane to help you stay relaxed. And, most importantly in your case, be willing to pay a bit more for a direct flight.
reenee: Happy Happy Joy Joy! So proud of you! Congrats on getting that student loan paid off and I am so excited for you to be able to start school in January!
new windows: Realized about a week ago what the first 6 months (or so) of the new roomies rent will go toward- new windows. I'm noticing mold on window sills and right around the seals. We'll survive this winter, but before next winter, I want new windows in. I know 4 for certain that need replaced, need to decide if I want to replace another 3-5 (two are very small windows in the utility room (basement) and garage, single paned, but not certain they're worth replacing).

Muttley: How old are your windows? Is there a warranty on them? I know our seals popped so they replaced a lot of our window panes. mizbear: How is everything going? Are you sure it is worth it to go on this trip for a company you haven't made any money on yet? I know you said when you started that you wouldn't have to invest much and now you are planning a big trip... I am a little confused. Seems like a pretty good investment to me? I feel so bad for a woman on another board. She had to give away her kitties since she couldn't affford their food or litter.

My one uncle (the mouthpiece) has to fly internationally, so that's probably where I got that all mixed up. I know that my other uncle they do something with his seating because of his heighth and leg issues (unless they just put him on the emergency exit row). Unfortunately, a sedative is not an option. With me being bipolar, sometimes sedatives do not have the desired effect. Or worse yet can have too much of the desired effect- and we never know. I was already planning to take a direct flight. I have had to switch flights at the airport before and it was a nightmare! My plane was late getting in from Dulles to the connector flight and the baggage wasn't coming out fast enough...it was terrible. My uncle and I talked this morning. He said that he thinks a lot of my anxiety comes from reading the news. He told me to A) stop reading all the junk in the news. He said that a lot less people are getting kicked off flights than my other uncle wants me to think. B) Do not fly Southwest. He did some research and found that most of the questionable circumstances that can be found have happened on SW planes. He said just to avoid the situation and fly another carrier. C) Ignore my other uncle. Ever since he got his Master's degree and retired from the USAF he has been a royal PIA to everyone. If he thinks he can screw something up for me- he will try his best to do it and then twist it around to make it all my doing. He also agrees with what you guys are telling me. I also talked to my executive this morning about the trip. She said last year, they booked as many seats for our group at the same time to get a better rate, but also so we could sit together. We all paid one person, who charged (and immediately paid off) the tickets. Apparently the airline would not allow the reservations w/o a CC . We will see what pans out. This weekend will be spent working. I have parties to close out. I have stocking and housework to do. I have chili to make. I have laundry to do. I have maintenance to do. And I am running a contest for the person to sign up to be my first November party (in home, online, or catalog) or fundraiser. THey win a free fragrance warmer and gel of their choice. Shan- My DM replaced all of her windows this summer as part of the reno and we can already feel the difference. We are getting temps in the 50s and usually with the old windows you would have to turn the heat on now.

start - do you mean here or NaNoWriMo? Hopefully yes for the former, probably no for the latter. Between two classes that require actual homework weekly and freelancing and real work and social engagements or obliigations, sadly another year I don't have time. Why can't we do it in, like, March? Nothing is EVER going on in March!

well no news on the job - but since even "quickly" in the government takes time - I don't expect to hear for a week or two. Both my references offered to say how amazing I was - these are very well respected folks in the industry (senior partner in a NY law firm & senior partner at a well known investment banking shop). fingers crossed!
3cats - how are you doing? thinking about you!
honey - you ok? I know the girls being gone helps but the work situation doesn't
ses - how is it going signing up for the LTC? ;D
mizbear - i'm gonna be blunt here (I am like this in real life too) - the problem won't be that the chip/meds *should* be ok - the problem will be what if you are asked a question? sent for a pat down? bumped/touched by other travelers? things change suddenly? the number one need for travel these days is an ability to stay calm in the face of random changes in the rules, delays, invasions of personal space, questioning etc. And that is just to get to the plane! Also, when is this trip? And you should get a CC - the reason is because lots of places will put a hold on your card and it may take a day or two for it to be released - limiting how much you have available. Another critical thing is I never use the debit card tied to my main checking account. God forbid something happen they would have access to all my money and it can take the bank a long time to get it back for you (we won't discuss changing direct deposits!). More for you to consider

Thank ya! For now the $300/month is going into savings (or more likely, toward tools). I have a new budget set up but am waiting for DH to start full-time so I can get an idea of what his income will be. He is LOVING the job, I'm really happy that he is finally doing something he enjoys. He has been flying through his classes (actually taking one right now) and today they registered him for a 2-week course in Detroit in December that will give him the highest-level certification for Dodge diesel (a lot of Ds in that sentence, LOL). They seem to be investing a lot of money in him - the diesel course alone is $3K, and they're paying for a rental car and hotel - so I hope that's a good sign. He deserves it, he's a way harder worker than I am ETA Argh, argh, argh. DH is adamant that he HAS to take this computer class tonight in order to go on the Detroit trip, and the site crashed when he was 90% of the way through. New plan is to get up at 5am and retry it before work at 8 (I told you he was dedicated!) so our Friday night is ending early. Update - 9NSDs, 15CSDs, 7 EODNeed to make Sunday or Monday a no-spend to meet my goal. I think I can, I think I can! Miz - I would consider driving - but I'm a nervous flier. The last few times have been almost unbearable, so I have not flown since I turned 25 and could rent a car without the surcharge. If you give yourself plenty of time to get out there and back - plan on driving 6-8 hours a day max - it should be OK.

spruby- That's part of why I am considering driving. I am generally good about getting randomly bumped into and being asked questions in a normal tone of voice- but I don't handle someone raising their voice to me very well unless I know there is an emergency. It scares me and makes me feel threatened. I don't know how I would react to a pat-down. We had to have pat-downs all the time when I was in the hospital as a teen because some of the kids (not myself) were in trouble with the law. No one ever did anything inappropriate then. I don't generally wait until the last minute to do things, so I don't think I would get wired over a delay or something like that- God knows with the schedule around here I would already have gone around the bend by now if that set me off. And I have already decided that if I fly, I am flyin out of Dulles or BWI b/c I have flown out of there before. I was terribly airsick on the return trip to BWI. I am already checking into a CC through my bank. The trip won't be until June or July (this year it was in July) and we will get the info soon on the exact date. MK- This month has not been great- but it is my first month. Part of the thing with the conference is learning how to better the business and learning about new products and stuff. Unlike when I get my MT where there will be conferences in the Balt/Wash area from time to time- the yearly conference for CH is usually held in TX since the home base is there. If I find that things are still slow, I will probably stay put, watch whatever streaming vids they do from conference and put what I was going to spend on going to the conference into the business or on my debt race or split it. mid- I am comfortable driving down there- I think DM is afraid I will find me a cowboy and not come back- she should be more worried about me going to New Hampshire. My BFF already has plans to introduce me to her very single, very handsome BIL.
I am glad to see that things are looking up for most everyone.
QOTW/COTW- I have to look at the numbers- I have made a math mistake- I am coming up with 38 days in October. COTW- My groceries were already in the budget so when I pick those up, that will be a NS, so was gas. This weekend should be a NS through and through.

startsmart - Well I have all the receipts from CC usage and I am entering them now and so far we are pretty on track with spending. Which in general is all i track. Our fun money is just that fun. Which leads me to my "go me" moment for the week (or maybe the month ... no I had lots of go me moments for the month):
THe big thing DH and I dedicated ourselves to doing is using our allowance/fun money for fun stuff and only using the CC for gas and groceries (I really hate using cash for gas, PITA) with the idea that we might move to using cash for groceries, but not there yet. So, after a horrible run yesterday because of a number of things, but one of them was proper attire (it was cool, but not cold. So I was sweating yet the breeze was chilly). I looked up a few things and decided to spend part of my allowance on a couple long sleeve shirts to run in and check out the new Academy Sports in town. I paid cash for 2 shirts, not super high tech, but $28 for both. I'm planning on dragging my parents there next weekend to buy me my birthday presant. Also, our total spent on the CC is looking pretty good for the last half of the month. I am very pleased with us. Not only that, but we have $300 cash saved up for Christmas/birthdays (3 neices and 1 nephew have a birthday within a month of Christmas plus DS's BD is a month after christmas). Now, I do plan on ordering some stuff online so I'll probably move some cash around. Also, DH is repaying "us" out of his fun money for an order he made online. Not a big deal, but it does provide some accountablity and that money goes into our date money. Now, I need to finish entering the last half of October's data into the computer. #shucks2#

Update: 18 NS day & 6 CS days
Good evening all. Hope things are going well with everyone. I am hoping to get a few major things off my list this weekend as well as get a head start on preparing for the new group of projects both school and personal.
mizbear -- sorry I can't advise you on your dilemma.
start -- I try to check in every couple of days because that helps me keep track of my numbers. You may have noticed that I start every post with my current totals. I literally go to my profile and copy/paste the old numbers then update them. By doing this on a regular basis I have a fairly good record of my NSDs. If I do this then I can keep track of my numbers.
