I just got two new kittens (male + female) and need names for them both. I was going to name the male "Zuul" but he doesn't really look like a Zuul. Now I'm thinking "Dalton" [glow=red,2,300]after the best character of the best movie ever made ever,[/glow] Then might as well call him Carl Spackler. How about Young Miao. That's kind of like Chinese for kitten. Isn't Zuul just a minion of Gozer?

Have never owned a cat, but from what cat owners tell me they rule the house. So my question is: Do the cats come when you call them by name? If not, why bother with a name at all But Frick and Frat comes to mind for me... Of course no names would come to me naturally

I thought I would be awful naming my dogs since I had such a hard time coming up with a name I liked for my son.
Nope - the dogs were much easier! 1st one I named before I ever saw her (was given to me by a friend who's sister was looking for a new home for the pup). I was told she was multi colored brown mutt (heavy on the Chihuahua) - came up with Honey. She's definitely a Honey - nicknames for her are Attention Ho and High Maintenance B*tch.
2nd one we didn't have a name for when we got him - previous owners called him CoCo (brown and black long haired dashound). We didn't like the name, so worked to change it. He kept leaving piles of poo everywhere because they hadn't housetrained him (they told us he was) and just seemed down right dumb - so we started calling him Gomer Pyles. Gomer stuck. Within a month, we were informed that he might possibly be deaf, so we felt bad about thinking he was dumb and tried to change his name again. Didn't work (but found out he could hear just fine), so Gomer it is. He's definitely a Gomer, personality and all.

Have never owned a cat, but from what cat owners tell me they rule the house. So my question is: Do the cats come when you call them by name? If not, why bother with a name at all Cats know their names and you can get their attention by calling out their name. As for coming when you call them, they'll come if they want to come. They aren't obedient like dogs because they aren't pack animals that see you as the dominant pack member who should be obeyed. Probably going to go with Dalton for the boy. Still need a name for the girl. So far, she is fearless and more affectionate. He's still aloof and looks to her to lead. I've found that the best way to get him to come out of his hidey hole is to pet her or give her a toy. When he hears her purring or playing, he'll come to investigate. But it's only been two days, so I'm hoping he soon becomes a bit more brave.

So my question is: Do the cats come when you call them by name? If not, why bother with a name at all Not only do our cats come to us when we call their names, they also call to each other! Both of our cats has a unique call--not really a meow, it seems to be vocalized a little differently than their regular meows--for the other one. And it seems to work; the other cat will come out when called by his feline sibling.
