A little late seeing the door is now legally open and the horses have left the barn. Navy officer weds partner as military gay ban endswww.usatoday.com/news/military/story/2011-09-20/military-gay-ban-repeal/50472964/1DUXBURY, Vt. (AP) – When Navy Lt. Gary Ross and his partner were searching for a place to get married, they settled on a site in Vermont, in part because the state is in the Eastern time zone. That way, the two men were able to recite their vows before family and friends at the first possible moment after the formal repeal of the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy that barred gays from serving openly. Just after midnight Tuesday, the partners of 11 years were married. "I think it was a beautiful ceremony. The emotions really hit me … but it's finally official," Ross said early Tuesday. STORY: Gay-ban repeal causes few waves Hours before the change was to take effect early Tuesday, the American military was also making final preparations for the historic policy shift. The Pentagon announced that it was already accepting applications from openly gay candidates, although officials said they would wait a day before reviewing them. Ross, 33, and Dan Swezy, a 49-year-old civilian, traveled from their home in Tucson, Arizona, so they could get married in Vermont, the first state to allow gays to enter into civil unions and one of six that have legalized same-sex marriage. Ross wore his dress uniform for the ceremony beginning at 11:45 p.m. Monday at Duxbury's Moose Meadow Lodge, a log cabin bed-and-breakfast perched on a hillside about 15 miles (24 kilometers) northwest of Montpelier.

Being out of the military for over 30 years, I really don't give an airborne rodent's posterior.

Tenn, in the interest of space and to honor Moon's request, could you cut down your post to a link/blurb? I read that article earlier, and it brought tears to me eyes. thanks for posting it here. henry, your geographical knowledge is just astounding.

This thread ain't exactly jumpin Chiver but I shortened it. much appreciated, Tenn. vast amounts of text still takes up space here. as far as the traffic - or lack thereof - I'd venture it has to do with henry's choice to list the state in which the poll about DADT was taken. I doubt anyone, including henry, is surprised by the outcome of a poll taken by a local media outlet in that location.

Let's not make that sort of comparison to such an individual because someone might agree with him on a single issue. To do so is a personal insult.

It's not a sad day for me, henry. I'm happy for these folks. I can't imagine going through life denying the truth of who I am. I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

It is sad for me to see a Henry Clay who was awarded a Bronze Star for his actions in Vietnam be demeaned and degraded continuously by Tennesseer....
If you don't like or disgree with these polls then attack the polls and not him.. Not all think the same about DADT and that is just the way it is.
Moonbeam has asked Tennesseer several times lately to knock off his constant personal attacks but yet he just ignores her wishes..
Why??

Okay, chiver, to show I am flexible, make the cross dressing optional.
But on the 24/7/365 thing, please tell us WHERE are we FORCED to sleep, shower and eat next to one, other than now in the military? And tell us how that is any different than sleeping, shopwering and eating next to someone of the opposite sex, but at the same time being to leave sex at the front gate.
Who is uninformed?

Henryclay-you are just going to have to live with it.
As to my comment comparing you to Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, you both call gay sexual deviants. That is fact.

That's what made it work. The individuals had a choice to join or not join. Everybody else could focus on their jobs. All of that is no longer true. The sexes have always had choices and have been separated, and they still are, , , , except in the military. If those people really want to be who they claim to be, why not relieve the tensions and let them live with the other natural and sexually unattractive members of their "real" sex?

Tenneeseer, what else can they be called? My neighbors, and some other people I have known are named Gay. I will not sully their names by referring to them under that name.
One such person was George Gay, the sole survivor of an entire squadron of Navy torpedo bombers that were shot down attacking the Japanese aircraft carriers at the Battle of Midway. Another was Colonel Tibbett's mother. Colonel Tibbetts had her name painted on the airplane he used to drop the first atomic bomb on Japan. It was spelled with an "e", but the connotation is the same and I will not make it.
That is something YOU will have to live with.

I still don't see the problem.

Henryclay-you are just going to have to live with it. As to my comment comparing you to Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, you both call gay sexual deviants. That is fact. So what many including Mormon and Christain Church Officials have called gays far worse so who cares about Ahmadinejad who is NOT at all the least bit credible But Henry Clay is credible and very well respected by this community and you are not in his league which probably explains why you keep posting this nonsense. Is it jealousy and envy getting the best of you again so you have to resort to personal attacks???

chiver, if your comment was to bait, I'll bite. But
I have to ask who the "we" is that you take it on yourself to speak for?
And may I respectfully suggest that you can live with whatever you choose, but for knowledge behind what you choose to live with, YOU don't know anything of the sort, and
For a moderator to make such a statement says all that needs to be said about moonbeam's choice of people fit for moderation.

I am not included in this "we" group or category and I applaud Henry for wanting to discuss sensitive subjects that some here feel passionately about.....
If a subject is too sensitive or something you hold strong feelings about maybe it is best to not get too involved in the discussions...and just stay on the sidelines and try to not take what is posted too seriously..
I have never seen Henry Clay personally attack anyone who opposes his views so why not show him the same cordiality or respect??
