I've lost enough weight since last year that I absolutely can not wear some of my nicest summer pants anymore. Even with a belt they sag so badly in the butt it looks like I crapped myself. I checked into the cost of alterations (these are good quality, lined pants here) and it's just not worth it.
Time for some more shopping.

I feel your pain. Make sure to keep your old clothing. Nothing like having to buy all new stuff a second and third time.

I'm not!! I'm just saying. I vary up to +/- 50 pounds and I used to throw out my clothes. I regretted it, that's all.

50 lbs??? Up and down??? How many sizes is that and how often have you fluctuated? I have a 35lb swing and I have gone up (2002), then down (2004), then up (2009) and now on my way down. And I can pinpoint my weight gain specifically to quitting smoking and surgery.

I gain/lose weight fairly easily. I can lose 40 pounds in 2 months without much difficulty. I also don't look a lot different. I could show you pictures of me +/- 50 pounds and you'd probably not notice a lot of difference in them.

You should have a pretty good idea. Maybe I'll send you a "fat" picture so you can see the difference.

First, CONGRATS!!!! I went from a size 18/20 to a size 4 in two years. I quickly learned to live with only a few clothing items because there was no way in hell I was going to buy a ton of stuff and then have it not fit because I was losing more weight. Even now I'm hesitant to buy many clothes because my body is still changing as I lift. I tossed all clothes above size 8 - I will NEVER allow myself to get above that again. I agree with you on the downside of weight loss, though. I've spent a fortune IMO on clothes just to have a few things that fit. Last week I went to the pool with my kids and my swim suit from a year ago was crazy big on me...I only wore it maybe 5 times! That's $75 down the drain!! Grrrrrrrrrr...now I have to go buy a new one. NONE of my winter coats fit this year so I bought one...and wore it every day whether my outfit was dressy or casual. Now it's spring and I don't have any spring/summer coats that fit. I'm not quite pissed enough about this to gain weight, but it sure is frustrating. So, I feel your pain.

Another example I just thought of: two years ago (when I was heavy) DH and I went snowshoeing. I didn't have any snow pants so I bought some (Mens XLarge). We don't snowshoe again until this winter and when I go to get out the pants the day before I realize how big they are. So off I had to race to the sporting store to get new ones asap (Women's small). Even on sale they were $50.

I think it is all good news! You're back in shape and get to go shopping. It's a win-win in my opinion.

Oh! I'm waiting for the day that I get to go shopping for new cloths because they no longer fit me. I've already bought a new swim-suit cover-up one size too small for our cruise in December. I'm hoping it's too big on me by then since I've been going to work out for the last 3 weeks (thankfully, the way it is designed, it won't matter - I hope!!).

Well, now you can buy some of the latest fashions~~ woot woot! I have not changed sizes in over a decade. I assure you that I will NEVER wear some of my older clothes again even though they fit. You may just have to buy cheaper (but stil cute!!) clothes until you have reached a goal that you can maintain.
Good for you on your weight loss!!! Keep it up!

I keep 3 sizes. With aging, I have filled out too much. I also weigh more in the summer from playing golf.
I ditched my work clothes once then ended up going back to work. I keep them now for a preventive measure! I also kept some tiny stuff just to look at once in a while.
ETA: 2nd hand stores are great for the sizes as you drop weight.

Congratulations on your weight loss Later One of my friends has lost a similar amount of weight over the past 18 months and she has spent a fortune on clothes, particularly for work. I keep 2 sizes of clothes. If the larger ones start getting tight I know it is time to up the exercise and reduce the food intake until I can get back into the smaller size. If you have the closet space I would recommend this as it is really hard to maintain an exact weight so having 2 sizes gives you time to notice small fluctuations and do something about it without having to get a new wardrobe. @nqtykarabo - You might be more than one size too small for your outfit by December (I don't know how much you need to/ are hoping to lose in total) I wouldn't buy too many clothes for your cruise this early if you have a large weight loss goal. Of course, if they are clothes you will wear every day then it's not the same problem.

Wow, Later - Congratulations! Do you have any good friends that can wear your other size that would want them? Sometimes I buy things that I think I love or think they fit me and they don't. If I've waited too long to return them I give the clothes to good friends. And Yay! you get to go shopping.

I am taking them over to a girlfriend tonight POM. She has been letting her style slide a bit the last few years (being busy and tired) so it is going to be a timely perk for her. I lucked out buying the pants that are too big and got most of them at very good prices. Not getting so lucky with the replacement costs. At most I only want to go down one more size, any smaller and I would look ill. I'm hoping that anything I shrink out of from now on can be altered.

What good timing for your friend. Even if it's expensive to do it - if I loved a clothing item enough - I would alter them too. Good luck on finding gorgeous new clothes that are on sale! I've had a really hard time lately, but I finally found a few things and they were on sale! So this must be the time of year in our area.

I'm going through the same thing. I just had to get some suits taken in, and a couple can't be taken in enough (the jackets would basically have to be reconstructed which would cost as much as a new jacket). Thankfully I have some smaller dress shirts from before I put the weight on, but it is a pain in the ass.
I'm not keeping bigger clothes -- if I start gaining weight, these clothes will become tight and that will be the signal to start cutting back again.

The good news means that there shouldn't be any bad news, so since there is no bad news I guess there's no good news either.

congrats to all you LOSERS good going. I know how difficult it is. I'm still working on my weight loss too, but I have dropped a size. I was so excited to go to the outlet mall and buy pants that actually FIT. I wouldn't want to go any further than one more size smaller. I'm thinking about having some of my larger size pants altered. Pants and shorts are really the main problem. Most of my shirts and dresses are fine.
