mk - Congrats on getting transportation. So, the project I complained about on Tuesday .... yeah it has been placed on indefinate hold because it is going to "cost too much money". Thank you ladies for the congrats on the bonus. We had them handed out yesterday as well as our paychecks (2 days early). The amount was a bit staggering. Not huge, but more than my regular paycheck. I took them to the bank yesterday and then got some cash out. I think I've got more than enough cash for everything but gas and hotels. I also set aside $60 for the 8th so DH and I can do something for our anniversery (probably the same thing we did last year which was get some BBQ and hit a haunted corn maze). I have to wrap up a few things at work, but nothing pressing and then I am off to Minnesota (I would much rather be joining Spurdy in Panama ).

mrsl- I have been observing your progress with the blog and the way you have been handling the situation at home- you are on fire! But yeah- startsmart is too. I found out from my rental office that I was given more incorrect info when I moved here- I could have hung up my pretty pale blue jacquard curtains- no problem. You only have to have white backings if you take the blinds down. My response was "Why would you take the blinds down?" Duh. Having free coffee today. It's national coffee day. Having a nice Bold blend from 7-11 right now. Then I'm going to go to SB and get a free one there... I should be wired all day.

I'm ashamed to admit I've completely lost track of NSDs/EODs. Don't know what's gotten into me in the last week or two... not sleeping well, totally slacking off, cranky, apathetic. I'm exhausted today from the not-sleeping, but still feel better than I have for a couple of weeks. I think part of it was going back to Derby practice last night - I missed last week while I was away at a conference. The convention also meant a lot of drinking and a lot of restaurant food. I think my age is starting to catch up with me... a couple of years ago I could stay up all night, drink like a fish, eat whatever I wanted, never exercise, and always felt great! Maybe someone was slipping drugs into my food back then Anyway, I'll look over my CC statements since my last update and see if I can decipher my monthly totals. QOTW- So far this month we have discussed organization (mail), review (budget), and planning (meals). When you look at the leaks in your budget- where do the leaks come from- lack of organization, planning, review- a combination- or something else?My leaks occasionally come from a lack of planning, but mostly just laziness. My biggest leaks are probably eating out and drinking out. If my boss asks me to lunch, I'd rather go out with him than sit at my desk and eat whatever I brought from home. And after derby practice, a group of us always goes out to the bar... 2 beers and an appetizer + tip runs damn close to half my weekly grocery budget! COTW- Try to identify at least one leak, its most likely cause and a possible solution.Start drinking cheaper beer I did forgo last night's bar trip, I guess that's something. And I've brought my lunch every day this week

Btw I met my eat out and work out goals for the month. I wiffed on the no soda and made progress on groceries. (485 including cigs).

thanks mizbear!!
So on top of being *thisclose* to being on the roster at the third company, today I got a copy test from a potential FOURTH client! holy smokes! And it's a history book. So psyched. Yes, nerd here.
Today's been rough. Anyone who follows baseball and knows I'm a Boston girl will know why. Seems silly to a lot of people, but it was heartbreaking. Especially when blue came into the bedroom (where I'd stormed off to) cackling with glee. He seems to have forgotten our "No gloating during playoffs" rule... he will be retaught... quickly. I really hope the Yankees get ripped apart during the first round. This is one thing that really bugs me: when my team does well and his doesn't, I do feel bad that he is unhappy (but am glad the Yankees lost). That doesn't register the other way for him. He delights in my team's (and thus my) misery. I guess I just take the damned sport too personally lol. 20 years of stomped on hopes will do that to you. Two wins don't erase those years' effects.

update; 26 NSD, 3 EOD, 1 spend day. I guess I made my goals but I am not happy with them. Next month I want to go all month without spending anything on anything except for me. I know in December I will be putting all my checks into all my expenses. I want to get things paid down so all I have to pay are the regulars. My bills are comprised of; Mortgage #1 $620.00 Mortgage #2 $100.00 Electric $300.00 Water $130.00{(every three months) Feb, May, Aug, Nov} Sewer $65.00 {(every three months) Mar, June, Sept, Dec} Car Ins $60.00 (or $265 every 6 months) Personal Loan $100.00 (I have $2400 yet to pay as of today) Gift cards for Dec again; $10 a week from groceries, $10 a week from WalMart, and this year I am going to go for a $10 gas card a month. That way I will have gas for the month, food for the month, and anything else I need for the month with out spending my paychecks on them. I will also have gift cards for Christmas again. I can concentrate on paying down my bills again. I am off track this year by 6 cards but I still have time to make them up.

3 cats- You and I have the same problem- we can't say no to family- at least the children. We both need to find a way to stick to our guns and support the kids at the same time. I have wonderful news (no I'm not moving away and marrying Prince Charming- I wish)- enough of the reno is done that I can start putting things away at my DGMs!!!! YAHOO!!!!! So- tomorrow in between loads of laundry I will be putting things away where I want them (since I do al the cleaning and stuff now- I get to do that ;D) Today was a NS. I actually spent some money but then my DGM gave it back to me because I gave her part of my donuts Am very nervous that I will lose chart in cyberspace this weekend.

mizbear - we can't be friends anymore. haha jk. It was a great game, just didn't go our way.
And to show you all how forgiving I am, I just bought blue two tickets to tomorrow night's Yankees-Tigers playoff game. If only I could get the printer to work... wanted to surprise him when he got home, but he's stuck on a train an hour away because lighting took out the LIRR again. So frustrating. It took me two hours to get home, and he's working on hour three. So, as a combo of that and how hard he's been working lately, and that I'm a total sucker for the expression on people's faces when I really hit the mark with a gift, there goes $130. And I'm letting him pick who he brings - doesn't have to be me. I'm sure he'll offer but he should be there with a fellow fan. And then I'll have the night to work on my projects or veg out to Jane Austen lol. I guess we could consider it an early anniversary gift, even though we decided that our cruise is our gift to each other.

mizbear; I can say no to the GKDS because I do not buy anything from them for their fund raising's. The last 2 times I bought anything, I paid in cash and their check bounced when they paid the school. I, of course, had to help them out so I could get what I ordered. I do not order anything anymore from any of them. I am always thinking about selling the house but I will not put the grandkids out in the street. They think that when I sell, they will get some of their money back. This place is not worth what I owe on it. We have so many projects started that it will take years to get them all done. And now with the basement being flooded during Irene or Lee, that has to be done over. Anyway, I have to make a list of things that need to be done and tackle them one at a time when I have the money. Then I found out that the kitchen window on their side is broken. Add that to my list. I just checked my credit score and I am almost to the middle of a "GOOD" score.

Hey all. I'm just in a crappy mood, so not very chatty today. Not sure what is causing the mood. I realized yesterday that I haven't done any work on the stuff for the consignment sale which I have to turn in on Sunday or Monday. Yesterday was an NS and today was a spend. Bought a birthday gift for SIL and popcorn for DS while we were shopping.

The apples are almost all processed. I lost all my oomph! and decided to leave the last batch until tomorrow. I have been skimming and trying to keep up but I have to stop and give and to 3cats. I remember your first post when you were almost at your wit's end. And look at you now! You are my shero.

Final September Update: 18/15 NSD Silly me, my original goal was a measly 8! Quick flyby of what's going on in my world... the houseshare situation isn't going to work out right now. But the homeowner asked me if she could contact me if the tenant doesn't work out. Of course I said yes. Dresses are moving along. The Mother of the Bride OK'd the dress I came up with for the plus sized bridesmaid without even asking the daughter. The mom is the one paying for it, and she already at her wits end with her daughter, so I'm not going to worry about it. If she's got a brain in her head, she'll like what I've done. And on the upside, I now have an original design of my own to play with. I haven't talked to Mr. Potential all week, my phone got shut off a couple of days ago. The phone was one of the things that had to slip for a few days so that I could keep a roof over my head. It'll be interesting to talk to him and see what's going on. Oh, and I'm completely in denial that it's almost October and I still need to do seasonal hiring. Can I just hibernate for 3 months and then go back to work?

I will update in a bit when I have a moment to re-check my spreadsheets. And did we ever come up with a name for October? I don't remember seeing anything discussed. How about Obliging, Observant, Omnipotent, Opportune, Optimistic, Opulent or Outstanding? I have an appointment with the oral surgeon this afternoon to look at this molar and see whether it is really broken and needs to be pulled, or is infected or A co-worker is going to drive me over there and then home in case they do need to knock me out. AND I have this oh-so-lovely cold with a really charming cough which is not helping matters. Add to that the implosion of my Beloved Sox .... and what I see others are struggling with and I thought .... we need something to chuckle over this morning. So for your Friday entertainment I offer the following non-topic, apropos of nothing at all, piece of humor. Enjoy! ******************************************* CATHOLIC VOCABULARY LIST AMEN: The only part of a prayer that everyone knows. BULLETIN: Your receipt for attending Mass. CHOIR: A group of people whose singing allows the rest of the Parish to lip-sync. HOLY WATER: A liquid whose chemical formula is H2OLY. HYMN: A song of praise usually sung in a key three octaves higher than that of the congregation's range. RECESSIONAL HYMN: The last song at Mass often sung a little more quietly, since most of the people have already left. INCENSE: Holy Smoke! JESUITS: An order of priests known for their ability to find colleges with good basketball teams. JONAH: The original 'Jaws' story. JUSTICE: When kids have kids of their own. KYRIE ELEISON: The only Greek words that most Catholics can recognize besides gyros and baklava. (for you non-Catholics it means Lord have mercy) MAGI: The most famous trio to attend a baby shower. MANGER: Where Mary gave birth to Jesus because Joseph wasn't covered by an HMO. (The Bible's way of showing us that holiday travel has always been rough.) PEW: A medieval torture device still found in Catholic churches. PROCESSION: The ceremonial formation at the beginning of Mass consisting of altar servers, the celebrant, and late parishioners looking for seats. RECESSIONAL: The ceremonial procession at the conclusion of Mass led by parishioners trying to beat the crowd to the parking lot. RELICS: People who have been going to Mass for so long, they actually know when to sit, kneel, and stand. TEN COMMANDMENTS: The most important Top Ten list not given by David Letterman. USHERS: The only people in the parish who don't know the seating capacity of a pew. Little known facts about the Catholic Church in Las Vegas: There are more churches in Las Vegas than there are Casinos. During Sunday services, some worshippers contribute casino chips instead of cash. They must be sorted into their respective casinos by the diocese. One junior priest makes the rounds to the casinos turning the chips into cash for the churches. He, of course, is known as the Chip Monk.

mizbear - I told blue the Yanks could win tonight (since he's now going) but that was it. After that they have to lose. lol.
I ended up going to pick him up in Queens around 10 last night. We got home at 11:30, so a five-hour commute for him instead of the usual 45 minutes. It was madness with people trying to pick people up. I read that some people were stuck on trains for five+ hours. Thank goodness blue got off when he had the opportunity!! He forgot all about that when I showed him the confirmation email for the tix though. It was nice to make him happy. And he's loudly proclaimed what an awesome wife I am on FB today, esp. cause I'm a sox fan. lol. He and his friend are going. I hope the rain holds out!!
Thanks for the laughs honey. And I'm with you on the sox. I don't think they should get rid of Francona, but they need someone to blame. Sigh. Next year is going to be hopeless, I fear.

Update 28/30 NSD
Honey--thanks for the chuckle.
I have studied my leaks and they are milkshakes and also Amazon, for both books and small household stuff. It is just too easy to shop there! Now that it is getting cooler the milkshakes will stop.
I am trying to psych myself up to finish the apples. It is taking forever because the apples are the size of golf balls. I really am developing a great respect for the women of yesteryear who HAD to do this to feed large families. Especially since they didn't have the overdeveloped monster sized fruit that are available today and had to deal with golf ball sized fruit like mine. Of course, they might have child labor to help.
Off to work I go!

Honey loved the post!
Mizbear: It was Moneysquirrel not me you meant to respond to.
Went to the grocery store today. Spent $87 and change and saved $53 and change. It was a BIG trip. 2 12 packs of Pepsi Max, 2 bags of water softner salt, 8 pizzas (2 being Freshetta) 6 boxes of Eggo Waffles, 2 bags of Tyson Nuggets, 8 boxes of Betty Crocker Fruit Snacks and a lot of other misc stuff. What fun.

Red-- get a copy of The Ball Blue Book and just follow the directions. It isn't hard, just time consuming.
I had to get Kerr lids this year and I don't know if I like them. I have always used Ball lids in the past(the brass colored lids) and could only get the gray Kerr lids this year. I think they have a bunch of aluminum in them because my magnetic lid pick-up stick/tool doesn't work so well. Invest in the tool set (special jar lifter tongs, jar sized funnel and magnetic lid lifter). I can get 4 pints in my 8 quart stock pot for water processing, but it is not tall enough for quart jars. If you need a big pot for water processing try to borrow one for the first season to see of you really want to do this. If you have green beans they make great "Dilly Beans", and it is easy!

I don't even like pickles. I'll make blue do it haha. It was his idea. He made it sound simple but when I looked it up it looked really time consuming. So I'll leave it to him.

Final September Update: 20/15 NSD, 8/10CSDHoney -- Love them. Some I have heard before but a few are new to me. Hope you are doing better both health-wise and other. QOTW-- My major leak is not sticking to my list at the grocery. It is all those items I place in the basket as snacks for lunchtime. I will eventually eat them but could find healthier snacks. I don't need the candy. COTW -- I need to skip the areas of the store where these items are stored. spruby -- Have a good time. I always do the same. I save for years to travel to places I love. I literally have a line item in my budget for travel and put a little aside for months or years before a trip. If I have any left after vacation it is the beginning of the seed money for the next one. This way when an opportunity arises I can travel without major worries as to how to afford it. I always view it as an important part of my life.
