oh Honey - Hugs. BIG BIG HUGSSSSSSSS. I am so sorry you are going through this. red - Yes it is and I had sort of forgotten what it was like. I just didn't call her because my life was boring or all about DS and she's a newlywed and I didn't want to bother her. But we laughed and cried and it was wonderful. I think I finally have the architect from hell sent back where he belongs. OK not really. But this jerk at the beginning of the month says no I'm not working on the project so just hang tight. Then he gets the word from on high (his boss, who is pretty awesome) that he needs to do it and it needs to be done the end of the month. That was the 15th. It is a really small project so not a big deal. My boss and surveyor actually took care of 90% of it for me. I just had to fill out some paperwork before we could turn it in. Then Friday the jerk calls and says on we need this change and my boss goes well will draw in what you want and we'll make it work. The jerk calls back on Friday after the boss is gone for the day. I talked to him but I didn't know enough about the project at that point and I thought the project was due on Wednesday. So, Monday morning I talk to my boss and my boss calls the jerk. "No, I can't draw up what I mean, you just have to do it". My boss was in meetings all day and couldn't convey that to me until 5:30 last night. I took it home and did most of it at home last night. The jerk emailed the contractor, the owner, my boss and his boss and says we are all done except for "muttley's company's part" (enter real company name). Oh thanks douchecanoe. Too bad the contractor is friends with my boss and will find out the truth and douchecanoe will find himself in trouble. Anyway, the project is done. I'm going to take it over there when I wrap up some paperwork on another project and then go home hopefully early or at 5 since DS was sleeping when I left this morning. I'm glad he was getting some rest, but it makes me sad that I miss seeing him in the morning. Oh, funny story I don't think I shared with you guys. Yesterday after music class DH brought DS over to the office so DH could get a hair cut. DS was looking out the window and my office manager goes "Oh I need to vacuum the window sills, they are nasty". I told her to give DS the duster and he would dust them. And he did! DH came back and then the boss came back from his meeting and my office manager goes yep boss, you need to put Ben on the payroll, he's been cleaning.

honey--i would love to have a post written by you! and I'm so, so sorry about the job. My god, girl. The lemonade you're going to make with the lemons you're being handed to you better be spiked with a whole lot of alcohol! red--congrats on making it to Jones Beach. You're like a real Long Islander now! I'll be up next weekend for our annual trip to Hicks Nursery for pumpkins and Otto the Ghost.
I cannot believe my conference is in 3 days! I'm dying to see how my business cards (and pen) came out. Plus I ordered new shoes and I hope they come in before I leave. I would love to bring them with me!

UPDATE: 25/25 CS/NS; 26/25 NEO; 13 MOAN 2S; 1EO Honey- HUGS I am in the process of doing major lifestyle teardown. I got yelled at by my DGM because I didn't answer her when she had the tv blaring during her soap and I couldn't hear her. smh Working on finishing my assignments for the MT program and writing business plans. Going to rework my blog so I have it looking the way I want. mrslynch- You have PM from me. I would be willing to write a blog post. But I know my view of personal finance is kind of skewed with being a SSDI recipient. Well, I need to finish what I am doing and head back over to the DGMs. I am also working on QOTW/COTW for my week.

Update: 17/15 NSD, 8/10CSD
Still doing the straight home from school run so I have been able to add to the NS totals. Too tired after dealing with over 100 pre-teens each day to do much else.
Hugs to all who need them. Will try to catch up on what I missed in the next few days if I'm lucky.

EVERYONE PLEASE TOTALLY FORGIVE ME I AM SUCH A DUNCE!
I was supposed to start as captain on Sunday and post a QOTW and all... *sigh*
QOTW- So far this month we have discussed organization (mail), review (budget), and planning (meals). When you look at the leaks in your budget- where do the leaks come from- lack of organization, planning, review- a combination- or something else?
COTW- Try to identify at least one leak, its most likely cause and a possible solution.
QOTW- My leaks usually are in the form of a lack of planning and organization. They glare at me when I review.
COTW- I have to make sure that I don't keep feeding the Starbucks Monster. And I need to follow the budget to the letter. I budget my fun money, so it's already there.
I will write a response in the morning either before or after I get back from the therapist depending on how things run.

COTW: in order to fix my leak, I have to commit murder. But that would leave the Grandkids without parents. The two of them working and I have to bring home diapers because they bounced a check for DGD's cheerleading stuff. I know you all know I would not leave my grandkids without anything "necessary" and if there were no grandkids those two would be out on the street and I would not care one bit and I would not regret it. update; 24 NSD, 2 EOD.

QOTW: Most of my leaks come from lack of planning I would say. Forgetting to return a movie and having to pay a late fee. Forgetting to take out something to defrost for dinner and deciding to eat out. COTW: I have found a couple of small leaks that I can plug- extra receiver for our Direct TV that we don't need ($5/month), extra thing on Netflix ($10/month), etc. We didn't plan for leftovers with dinner last night so I wouldn't have had anything for lunch today. Rather than fall into that whole "I'll just grab something at McD's" route. I grilled up some brats that we had defrosted and brought one with me for my lunch today. Now I have 2 more ready to go for the next time this week I forget to plan for my lunch in advance. Baby steps 3Cats: Ah family- how does the saying go? You can pick your nose but you can't pick your family? I am sorry that they keep coming to the bank of mom with their hands out. I don't blame you one bit for not wanting to punish the grandkids for their parent's mistakes. Hugs to you.

Honey - Dear Lord I don't know how much one person is supposed to handle but if anyone can get through this it is YOU! Hang in there and positive thoughts coming your way that you are spared this round and have the ability to make a reasonable plan for yourself.

Sorry I've been MIA, just busy at work and still dealing with a cold. I'm home today with mini-D he woke up this AM with his eyes all goopy so I'm just waiting for his Dr's office to open so I can get him in today. I really hope that they don't want us to do the eye drops again. That was just awful last time.
I've been spending a little here and there. I'll get back on the wagon next month. Today I'm going back to Costco and getting mini-D the next size up in costumes for Halloween. I got him the 3-4 year old size and it is too small, so I'll take it back today and get him the 5-6 year old size. He decided he wants to be an astronaut.
I'll have to think about the QOTW/COTW a little.
3cats- Are you still thinking of selling the house? Just curious.
Honey- Let us know how you are!

Update: 15 CS + 5 NS = 20 of 24 When I posted numbers yesterday, I'd only counted through Sunday, because in my head, it was Monday. We did get an NS yesterday, so that was nice.
Honey: Thinking of you every day right now. Hope you are able to get some relief from the bad juju that seems to have descended on your house this fall.
3Cats: I'm with Reenee and MizBear- I'd like to come smack some sense into the grown up kids over there. I hope the GKs realize what an amazing woman their grandmother is.
QOTW: I'd say lack of planning/organization. I'm a routine kind of girl. When we're in our routine, there are very few leaks, thanks to the allowances we are both given. But when we get out of our routine, it all goes down hill from there. I can usually recover from one non-routine part of a month, but like this month when there were almost no routine days, I've managed 4 NSDs- only 1/3 my goal. It's been months and months since I've had that few NSDs in a month. We are back in the routine (mostly) starting yesterday, so here's hoping we can get it under control.
COTW: That would be this weekend. I'm flying in to Reno tomorrow afternoon. I've got Firebird's bachelorette party on Thurs night and her wedding on Saturday. I'll be staying at my mom's, but I'm from the area, so I'll be trying to get together with some other friends, too. My challenge is going to be to keep the spending under control, because when I get back on Monday, we're still going to need to grocery shop for the week.

Quick hi from Key West! The conference was AMAZING and I'm ready for the relaxation. And business is growing, the last day I got the courage to go up to the mike and share. Something I said connected and the room of 300+ people all said "ahhh" and the presenter stopped me and told them to write it down! Before I was back in my seat someone passed up a business card with a sticky note attached. It said "I want to hire you in my business"

startsmart - Does that cover it? ;D Congrats to you. So personally I am doing a . My office manager just told me we are getting bonuses for the month of September!!! For those who don't know, this time last year our business fell off a cliff. The phones stopped ringing and it was absolutely dead. In January, my boss applied for a small business program where we would receive unemployment 2 days a week (so 2 forlough days a week). It picked up a little in March and we got paid for a big project we did last year (which we thought we would not get paid because the client did not get the grant). My boss decided that we would not get raises this year, but if he could, he'd give us bonuses when possible if things picked up. And we've been working full time keeping moderately busy. THe last 2 months business has boomed again and we are super busy. I can't believe my boss is giving bonus without even seeing what the billing for September is going to be (and it is going to be huge because they are billing for 5 weeks with lots of extra hours from me and some other people). So therefore .

startsmart - yay on your conference going well! Bravo for being brave and getting up to speak!
muttley - woohoo for bonus!
Blue just got the first half of his referral bonus (an old coworker joined him at the new job) so that paid off our cruise with a little left over for whatever project we decide to do. The first window guy is coming tonight. Home Depot is having a sale I guess. We'll see what the damage will be. After the coworker is there 6 months he gets the other half of the bonus. So I believe four and a half months to go! I personally have never had a job that gave out bonuses... I did get a B&N mousepad once... lol
So I passed the copyediting test for a third client. I have to do one test live project (I'd get paid) before I'm officially on the roster, but I figure if I can copyedit a chapter about "new" innovations in technology like PCs (I seriously think they haven't changed their test since 1988) without screaming I can handle anything lol. This publisher has a wide range of topics, so I'm excited to maybe get to edit a history book or an art book instead of all the social science stuff I've been doing (which is interesting, but not too different from my day job). Hoping projects stay reasonable so I dont' get too overwhelmed before I'm ready to do it fulltime. But the extra money is ALL going to the credit cards, I've decided. We're putting money in savings steadily, and I really am ashamed of how we backtracked on our CCs this year. which brings me to:
QOTW: I'd say our leaks are eating out and planning for gifts. All our gift money went to weddings this year and I'm scrambling to save up for the holidays. I just emailed my brother and SIL to say we should just do cards for birthdays, not gifts, especially as I know we all struggle to find good gifts. And they've never gotten blue a gift, which ticks me off now that I've realized it lol. So hopefully they agree to that, cause their birthdays are in the next week or two. Anyways. I'd say going to Target generally leads to overspending. And holidays. I need to make a holiday budget, seriously. I love Halloween and Christmas decorating. This year I'm attempting to do some crafting, so there are some startup costs there. All the other holidays I don't really care about lol. So next year I'll do a holiday savings account for decorating only. Maybe that will include plants/flowers for summertime too, we'll see.
I guess I'll work at not eating out (I say after having ordered Chinese last night while my leftover pasta sat in fridge... just couldn't eat it two days in a row! But I did buy with fun money, not house money, so it's fine) and budgeting for holidays next year.

Update:
24 NEO Goal: 25 18 NSD/CSD Goal: 20
Doors - I have been putting this off but I think I really need to look into replacing my front door. It has warped and has not sealed well for several years which means I am leaking heat in the winter and AC in the summer. One of the things holding me back is that it is metal and I don't know what that will do to the cost - and then there is my fear that the entire jamb will need to be re-worked. I am looking into the possibility of swapping it out with the door in back on the first floor. It doesn't get nearly the exposure of the front door. And the front door because of the warp is making feel as though the locks could be easily jimmied. mizbear - I got to thinking about your question of a few days ago and wrote up an essay about the Chrism and Blessed Salt which I put on my home page, so to not derail the thread. It can be found here: honeylioness.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=thoughts&thread=2373cats - Thank you for not choosing the manslaughter route for dealing with your budget leak! Most correctional facilities these days dress inmates in these really awful orange jumpsuits which are NOT flattering to any body type or complexion - and I would so hate for you to be so un-chic! I do understand the pull of a grandmother. And that the parent's may want to do something extra for their daughter - like cheerleading. But that for me would be an optional expense before diapers. And if the girl is old enough for cheerleading - wouldn't she be old enough to bag groceries, baby sit or mow lawns to help pay for it? startsmart- Way to Go!!! ... So nice to see when our friends are complimented and validated by complete strangers for being the amazing woman we already knew you were. And regardless of what else is going on with me at the moment I am still counting on seeing you in November! That's right ladies - startsmart is going to be in my neck of the woods for a seminar and we have already made some plans for a long weekend of sight seeing and hanging out. reeneejune - I am still willing to captain a week. Will give me a chance to focus on something else besides my chaotic life. MrsLynch - I have some questions for you about the blog post. Do you want me to use your gmail or yahoo account to send an e-mail? muttley - Congratulations! redwagon - Great news on the referral bonus, bet it feels good to have the cruise paid for up front. QOTW - Interesting that this question came up this week considering everything else going on. I find that when my budget has gone haywire - as I feel it has done this month - the source is more emotional than anything physical. For instance, I incurred two overdraft fees this month. Because I was so stressed I did not pay attention to the due dates or plan their payments properly. And because in an effort to keep the peace at home I caved on eating out on two occasions and for some items at the grocery store that were not on the original list. COTW - Two big leaks as I mentioned earlier revolve around food. Having told the kids about this current situation I need to stick to my guns, and my list, when at the grocery store. I am also going to say "NO" to any more eating out requests from now until they leave in a few weeks. Or say that "That is not in my budget - however if you have the money and want to pay for yourselves that is fine". I also will need to just stop smoking cold turkey.

Ladies, thank you all so much for your supportive words these last few days. There is a slim chance I may not be on the list of people losing their jobs - but it is only a slim chance. However even if it was no chance I am not sure that would stop my mother, her prayer circle, family and friends from praying for a change of heart in the corporate folks who hand down these decisions. I had my first major meltdown over this Monday night. I really wanted to just get falling down drunk - but had started taking Vicodin for my broken(?) molar and it's not a good idea to mix an opioid with booze. I must have looked like a deer in the headlights when I dropped off the prescription and they asked me for a photo ID. I had forgotten that this medicine is a Schedule III narcotic and apparently quite popular on the streets. After downing 1/2 of a pill (because I am a complete light weight when it comes to medications they affect me so strongly) I called my best friend who works in our industry and sent her my resume. She is going to review it for me, make editing suggestions then send it on to all the head hunters that regularly call her. I also gave a heads up to my mother which is how I know she sent out a blast e-mail to friends and family asking for their prayers. I went online and did a quick review of my state's Unemployment Insurance guidelines. Made a list of temp agencies that cover my area and took a quick look at my budget spreadsheet and what is due. I also told both girls about this possibility - and that it meant I would be much more vigilant about leaving lights on, the thermostat setting and grocery shopping - though they both think I am already pretty clenched about these things. Not sure if I mentioned this here yet, but both girls will be moving - Milla first. The complete gory details are on my website under each girl's name. OH ... for what it's worth I think I have determined that my dentist is the "family" Milla told YFU that she had found on her own that would take both her and Monse. He was way too nonchalant Monday on the subject of my students, Milla especially. And when I mentioned that things were tense at the moment his response was "Is there anything I can do?" REALLY??? We are not friends, have never socialized outside of his having his hands in my mouth and suddenly he is Mr. Helpful? Yeah, definitely time to change dentists. The glass replacement company came out to my office yesterday to replace my rear windshield. However, and you knew of COURSE there would be glitch considering my month this far, they were not able to finish the job. Seems that the screws that connect the window latch to the wiper unit are corroded and they were unable to get them out of the housing. So they have ordered a new mechanism, which will be covered under the initial insurance report/incident - and they will hopefully be here tomorrow to finish the job.

Honey - we did both front and back doors, both storm door and security door (so four doors total) for $2400 including parts and labor and the doors themeselves. So figure a quarter of that cost for one door? We absolutely love ours! And I have to give my ID to get allergy meds, so don't feel too badly! And yes, it feels fantastic to have the cruise paid for. I've also blocked out $500 for on board expenses and shore excursions from blue's paycheck. Savings takes a hit this month, but we now know we have that money to spend if we want. Not sure we're going to do too much though. Mainly we want to just relax.

Honey: I think most contractors actually prefer to replace the whole door and door jam. Really not that much more work then the actual door believe it or not. And of course your window replacement couldn't be simple! I know the feeling. Even my sister is believing the universe is out to get me. It's not paranoia if they really ARE out to get you!
QOTW: Mine would probably be my grocery budget and DF purchasing alcohol. You know I don't think he has ANY idea how much he spends a month. I asked him and the amount he stated I would be fine with but I think it is at least twice what he thinks it is. Maybe I will keep all the receipts for Oct and show him.
So I will keep track in Oct and see where we stand. I think I will keep an envelop for both and see what happens. Although I do need a major restocking from Sam's as our membership is up Sunday and I will just wait to renew it a few months, hopefully sometime in Jan 2012
Saved a HUGE snapping turtle today. Was in the middle of the road and I just couldn't leave him there. Man was his PO'd LOL. He was ugly, mean but really cool. Glad I stopped since a truck came zooming by as I was getting him to safety. I couldn't pick him up, too mean but just kept trying to get him mad enough to come closer to me away from the middle of the road. When we went back he wasn't there anymore and he wasn't road kill. Today anyways.
Took Thor to the fenced in dog park. Had him off lease and he did really well. Never went too far away and made sure to keep us (DD and I) in his sights. He also greeted all the dogs really well. Still need to work on heel and coming all the way and stopping when I give the command but it is a good start. Would take him again.

Transportation has been approved for DS#2. They had a big meeting yesterday and I had e-mailed our story to the financial worker's supervisor and the social workers supervisor plus had Fraser (day treatment) and an advocacy group e-mail them.
Happy this fight is won. Now we will wait for the next one LOL

Honey- When they replaced the doors at DGMs house just weeks ago, they also replaced all the jambs and whatnot. We went with steel or steel core I think. Thank you for the beautiful essay. Things will get better for you. They have to. If not sooner- then when the girls leave. I will send prayers and good juju regarding employment. HUGS start- Glad the conference is going so well. red- Congrats on blue's bonus and your copy test! sheila- I think taking lunch to work is the hardest thing to plan. I hope I have not forgotten anyone.

Honey -
A couple of things before I forget: (1) I know a few folks in your area - I'll be out of town for the next couple of weeks but when I am back I am happy to pass on your resume to any appropriate folks (I know folks in a wide variety of places - so something may be a fit) if you are looking for something. (2) Any chance your front door is part of the homeowners association responsibility? Sounds odd I know - but in my old place it was part of the HMA responsibility. You could paint it if you wanted to (an approved color only!) - but if repair was needed the HMA found and paid a contractor.
I'm glad the girls are going - in the best of times they would be difficult - now I just feel like they have brought nothing but bad luck with them.
Hugs
I'll post more later with an update.

I have 15 minutes while the current batch of applesauce processes. Everytime I do this I wonder why I do it---until I open some of it for Thanksgiving!
Honey--I found it was cheaper to do the doors with frames premanufactured due to the cost of labor. Actually the cost difference was substantial. ETA and the doors fit tighter and were more efficient.
I am going to have to think about the QOTW/COTW--very seriously!
Spruby--Or anyone--Do you know of a site to research LTC insurance costs and comparisons of several companies. I'm finding this hard to research well.
MK--so glad the transportation issues are working out.
Gotta go the timer went off!

Final Update on Goal: 28/30 NSD/CSD, 5/10 MOANs
Restaurant points: 39/30I'm posting now because we head out tomorrow for our trip. I know we'll be spending and eating out - but they are all budgeted for/unavoidable. I'll be back when we get back from our trip - but since it won't be till mid-month - I won't have a goal for October. I hope the end of September sees everyone doing better. I'll admit to hesitating on posting but - I'm super excited about the trip, we've planned an saved for a year for it and I just can't wait. We're headed for the Panama Canal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "Talk" with you when we get back. ;D
