Seeing as this forum is Market Talk, I will assume that most everyone in here trades the market. I would like to raise a virtual glass and toast all of you on an amazing month. While the market conditions are obviously out of our control, we got handed a wonderful gift in August. Most of you probably had your best returns since 2008, if not ever. Of course, with our addiction, we'll all be back on Thursday to continue our daily routine. No relaxing for us, even after record numbers. So here's hoping the market continues its big moves, whether up or down, and that we all can continue to profit at the same rate we have for the last month. Dinner's on you!

I too have some long term investments, unfortunately the majority of them were to the long side, so they didn't do well. I was much luckier in 2008 when most of my long term trades were to the short side. Either way, I have trouble managing the much higher risk of long term trades so I usually put a lot less money into them over all. During the last couple years, I've drastically reduced the number of those trades that I get into. I just can't seem to get a solid set of rules to keep me from losing too much money.
I hope that at least some of your long term trades were in the right direction and that your month went well also.

Ok, got it. In that case, I hope the next big move is to the upside for your sake. Doesn't matter either way to me, as long as it moves big I can make profit. It's the flat line moves that make it difficult on everyone.

There's always the news to be the fly in the punchbowl. We've got a Presidential speech on a new jobs proposal coming up. The solution to the slow recovery? Or another negative hit to the US balance sheet with a major spending increase coupled with a massive revenue increase?
Either way, the market will not just shrug and go about its business. Earnings, interest rates, factory orders and inflation will take a back seat to politics of the moment.

In market times like these, I think traders are absolutely insane. I realize the huge swings and volatility can gain great profit, but not knowing how that pendulum will swing...you guys got nerves of steel.

Except for a couple days of vacation here and there I've been here every day since 2008. Our thread isn't posted in as mush as it had in the past due to the verbal chat, but we check it many times a day and will respond to any questions or comments. Feel free to speak up if you'd like.

In market times like these, I think traders are absolutely insane. I realize the huge swings and volatility can gain great profit, but not knowing how that pendulum will swing...you guys got nerves of steel. A lot of the traders feel the opposite. We feel that day trading is MORE predictable, and therefore LESS risky than long term trading. Even in ideal conditions (steady movement) I feel I can predict a stock's movement over the next 30 seconds better than I can over the next couple days or years. There's generally so much less risk in short term trading due to smaller stops, and more guaranteed turn around points to measure entries and stops with. I still struggle with my long term trades, especially when the market gets volatile and changes direction often. I think YOU guys have nerves of steel holding on to something for so long while never knowing for sure where it's going. That kind of stress eats away at me too much. I like the relaxation of just trading about an hour a day, with each only running a few seconds to a few minutes. The profit becomes easier and quicker for me and I don't have to put as much thought into it either so the mental stress is reduced as well. By the way, does anyone know how to quote two different people in a single post? I haven't figured it out yet and still have to respond to each post separately.

Yes, I knew you on the old MSN Boards - my screen name was Falling Sky - Not over there.
I don't follow the Day Trader Thread though because honestly I just don't have the talent or knowledge to trade on a daily basis. I tried learning from you guys but you seem to have your own "lingo" that I have not taken the time to decipher.
But I do welcome some of you guys breaking out into other threads.

I don't follow the Day Trader Thread though because honestly I just don't have the talent or knowledge to trade on a daily basis. I tried learning from you guys but you seem to have your own "lingo" that I have not taken the time to decipher. Things have changed a lot since the old MSN boards. We have more simplistic techniques now, and with the verbal chat it's real easy for people to get one-on-one help. Either way I'm sorry you struggled to learn about what we do. Everyone has the talent to do this, it's as easy as clicking a few buttons on your keyboard at the right moment. Maybe I didn't have the best way of explaining things before, but now there are a lot of people that are getting some help and going from a struggling situation to making a steady salary. If you're ever wanting some personal help with your trading, or want to try and re-learn the process, I'd be happy to help. I'll be happy to visit other threads from time to time. I just find that 98% of all threads on here of a negative nature. Most people seem to prefer complaining about a bad market than just shutting up and making money. I'm also not into political talk, so that makes me lose interest in many threads as well. I'm here to trade and nothing else. I don't care about the economy, politics, the actual market conditions, and anything government related. I just like to get up, trade for an hour, and enjoy my day after that. All those other things make people so negative and hateful. I won't let myself become someone like that. Life is too short to stress over things all day long.
