Leanna__ congrats on the new house! I'm so sorry to hear about your friend, it's always a tough road for those left behind when someone we care about thinks there is nothing left for them.

I went back to Shoprite tonight and did two transactions with a trip to my car inbetween to think about doing the second. My greedy side won. My first transaction was 5 Nabisco 12 indiv oreos Reg price $5.49 on sale for $2.88 for a total of $14.40 OOP. The big promo was buy $25 worth of Nabisco/Kraft and get $20 in cats. It spit out the $20 in cats based on the shelf price slick as snot. Second trans 1 planters hny rst peanuts 3.49 1 capri sun drink bxs 2.38 1 fig newtons sing serve 5.49 on sale for 2.88 6 maxwell house coffees shelf price 4.39 ea on sale for 2.99 ea My final total was 25.67 OOP after sale prices and 0.25 off for my canvas bags and plus a little tax. And the $20 cats spit out again. So I spent a total of $40.07 and got back $40 in cats!

You're being SMART. I doubt that you cleared any shelves in two transactions so I think you can rest assured that you were not being greedy. If it were me, I'd be spending the time walking up and down the aisles looking for ANYTHING that is part of that deal that we use regularly and stockpiling it according to the expiration dates on the packages and our usage. I might not buy everything I wanted to in one day, but I'd get the job done before the sale/CAT deal was over. GREAT JOB!! ;D

Beachbum: Wow!!! I'm really impressed! That's pretty awesome having $40.00 in cats to spend. I was excited with the $10.00 I had to spend at Meijer tonight. Do your cats roll? I'd be going back and not feel greedy like Dancin said. There's a lot of things you can use a $40.00 catalina for.
CVS: I got the $2.00 ECB today by pledging not to waste my ECB's. I bought my favorite perfume, Beautiful, which was $10.00 off this week. I also bought 6 Excedrin small packs @ $.99 (rainchecks), 1 Xtra detergent and 2 Altoid mini mints. I spent $17.64 and $20.00 in ECB's. I was totally out of my favorite perfume and my birthday isn't for another couple months so I did have to pay some cash, but it was still cheaper than getting it at Macy's.

I don't know about Shop Rite because I don't have one, but sometimes these great "CAT sales" come along once in a blue moon. I'd just hate for you to miss a great opportunity to stockpile things that you might need and use for months to come and at a great price (i.e. almost free) and then be kicking yourself later if it turns out to be one of those "once in a blue moon" type of sales. This type of CAT deal has happened to me ONLY ONCE in the last five years. I recognized it for what it was and thanks to several of the gals helping me out with coupons, I shopped with a vengeance over a three week period of time. By the time I got done, I was exhausted; but I had stockpiled over $1000 worth of groceries (many different items, but Bertolli pasta sauce in the pouch was the main MM) and came out ahead by about $100 due to rebates that I earned on items that I had purchased with CATs at the end of the sale.

Shoprite has it's own cats for what it calls it's dollar days every year. That is the one I got all the free TP at. Those they let you roll your cats and almost all the time the cats work based on the regular shelf price not the sale price. This is a regular man catalina program. The ad says that it is only 1 per customer and it will be calculated based on the sale price. That is what I feel guilty about. Shoprite cards don't track. It can track some things but mostly they can only track within that transaction. Shoprite ALWAYS says it goes on sale price but actually does it based on sale price. There really aren't that many things listed that count for this cat. Other than the coffee, cookies, peanuts and juice boxes. They do have claussan pickles Dancin, but we don't eat pickles. The cats come out as 4 $5 cats not 1 $20 cat. They all have begin and end dates. So you have to use them in the stated week. I normally hate those because I don't have a choice when to use them and I have to buy more of their product. This one doesn't bother me though because they can be used on any Kraft or Nabisco product. There are so many I can't see not finding something I want/need to buy for the next month with these cats. ;D

I just kept rolling the CATs throughout the 3 week period. I think that they used to call it a "Savings Rally", but they haven't had one for about 2 1/2 years. I don't recall them stating any kind of limit other than you could only participate once per day. The CATs were MCs and not tied to your card so my sister and my mom let me use their loyalty cards so that I could stockpile freely and I gave them a bunch of spaghetti sauce (that I made a profit on) for helping me out. As far as feeling guilty, geez, I never do. They SHOULD be able to program any limit they want to enforce in the computer and tie it to your loyalty card. If they fail to do so, I figure going beyond it is fair game; but it really doesn't matter for me because like I said, I can use DS's loyalty card, my mom's loyalty card, and my sister's loyalty card if I need to. ;D

I thought I'd be coming on here this week to share how our move was hard but we are glad to be in our new house. But instead, I got some horrible news. A good friend committed suicide. I am devastated. Leanna, I am so, so sorry to hear about your friend. So sad for all of you.

Hi All, I've kind of been missing in action lately. Mostly due to the lack of deals, but also because we had been considering buying a deli/restaurant. I have been spending a lot of time looking at income statements and balance sheets, trying to decide if it would work. Finally decided I am enjoying retirement too much, and just can't face the thought of throwing myself back into 50 or 60 hours a week. I'd rather shop and do what I want!!

I miss you when you aren't posting later at night. Yes, the deals are pretty slim these days. I really thought it would be picking up around now, but I guess not. The restaurant business is a tough one. I'm sure you made the right decision for you.

Leanna: Sorry about your friend **Hugs** I had to move my stockpile about a year ago myself. I gave away a bunch of stuff, powdered laundry soap was one- can't use it in the new place. Finding a place to put it in the new place has been challenging. I did get some underbed storage boxes and use them, but I have no idea what is in them until I pull it out and look. I am in the process of turning my old TV cabinet into an armoire that I am going to add doors to and more shelves to make it a pantry cabinet. Hubs just got it out of storage yesterday. That should make shopping a little easier, I always dread putting it away!

Leanna - so sorry for your loss. Mental illness is a horrible condition.
So....I did my 1st CVS trip today. Our store opened in July, but I just had not been drawn in yet. However, with the $2 EB from yesterday, and the short expiration, I decided to go in this morning to get the Softsoap body wash 2/$6. I had the $2 EB, and 2 $.75 q's. Paid $2.73 cash. I got back the $4 EB (for buying the bodywash) AND a $2 EB because it was the 1st time I used my card! I was so excited and shocked. What a way to suck you in!!!!

Thank you Dancin Mama, Nickleey, MeliBeach, DebinWa, Ooty and OhMomto2boys.
I've tried to say thank you every time each of you has shared your condolences - and my apologies if I neglected anyone.
Oy - it's hard so hard. I am quite anxious and barely sleeping. Can't help but think I wish I could have stopped her.
I'm grateful I have the new house that has so much work because I have things to do to keep me busy - mostly cleaning because the place is disgustingly dirty. It helps to have stuff to do.

Look for $4/$20 or $5/$20 coupons in your local newspaper (usually the day the grocery ads come out). Within 6 months after my Longs first coverted to CVS, the newspaper ran them for weeks and weeks (I think to entice people to come into the store). I probably used over 30 of those suckers and was able to stockpile all sorts of non-perishables for very very little OOP. I was a very busy gal in those days, but it paid off big time for me.

I will totally look for these!!! The CVS weekly circular hasn't shown up yet in our local paper, however, I saw a sign at CVS this morning saying it will be in this Sunday's paper. Hopefully these $x/$X will start showing up.

Leanna: Sending good thoughts and a hug your way! So sorry about your friend. debinwa: Having been married to a guy that owned a restaurant for over 30 years, my advice is: don't do it!! While he really enjoyed the social aspect of the regular customers etc., he worked 6-7 days week, and a minimum of 14 hour days. It is grueling, grueling work. And very unpredictable. During the really good years, I still didn't feel comfortable leaving my f/t employment "just in case" things went south. Well, they went south with a vengance during the recession and we finally made the decision to close. He's not a stay at home kind of guy, and really has no hobbies other than golf, and is not handy at all, so he's content to pick up shifts working for various caterers. Now he gets his socialization skills put to use without all the headaches. He loves it! Says it's the easiest work he's done in his life. I'm just glad he's busy and happy.

Good morning Ladies, I hope everyone is doing okay. HOUND ALERT....its a long shot & odd one but ....-------------------------------------------------- $25 Miller Rebate wyb purchase a 12 pack or larger of Miller Lite, Miller Genuine Draft or MGD 64, together with $100 worth of groceries. Purchases must be between 8/1/11 thru 9/18/11 and post-marked by 10/3/1. Valid States: AK, AZ, CA, CO, CT, DC, DE, FL, GA, IA, ID, IL, KS, MA, MD, MI, MS, MT, ND, NE, NH, NJ, NM, NV, OH, OK, OR, PA, RI, SC, TN, VT, WA, WI and WY. There is another one out with different purchases dates + 24 pack which is why I underlined those. -------------------------------------------------- I was thought I was going to get one from someone but it turned out to be a misunderstanding. All I'm missing is the rebate form and as you can see the postmark date is close. I know its a long shot, but I figured why not ask. Thanks. We had these rebates at a grocery store in our town. I went to look yesterday to see if they still had them and they did not. Sorry

Ohiomom: Be sure you buy a greenbag tag and sign up so you can earn $1.00 ECB every 4 times you swipe it. Use your own bag to bring your "freebies" home and those things do add up. I've earned $25.00 so far on my card.
Pepsi coupons: If anyone doesn't drink Pepsi products, I'd sure appreciate any of the Pepsi coupons coming out this weekend. Not the food coupons, just the pop coupons. Thanks in advance.
