All WIR Hurricane area posters please report in ASAP and let everyone know you are ok.
If Irene has not yet reached you, please make sure you have your things in order as far as your emergency kits and bags, important papers and items for protecting windows. Also make sure you have shot records and carriers for fur babies.
If you are in an evacuation area, please do so ahead of the storm if at all possible. I know I have said I am staying put, but I am not on a flood plain.
I send prayers, good juju and karma, best wishes, and love to all those on the WIR board. Please stay safe.

Emergency services is expecting us to get hit in the next 2 hours and lose power for 2-3 days, so this will be my last post as I make some last minute preps. Everyone stay safe. Love you all and see you in a few days!

I don't think I have my "head in the sand", but I just don't believe all the hype. I am prepared. I figure what I buy won't go to waste. I'm pretty sure I'll get water in the basement, but a power outage for 2 - 4 day? Nope. Not happening.

stay safe, mizbear. everyone else, too.
Irene isn't supposed to hit my area until tomorrow. it's eerily calm and quiet here today though, and really muggy.
at some point today, I'm going to bring in the chairs from my patio, and the portable grill. I think the huge wrought-iron table should be okay if I tie it to the fence. I'll also pull my car into the garage tomorrow morning, hopefully that covers everything!

lots of wind & rain here in the DC suburbs (Alexandria VA) - it is getting worse. we have one tree down right outside our apartment building - luckily it didn't hit anything on the way down. we're just hanging out doing chores and listening to the news/coverage. stay safe everyone

We had a few trees down, siding off the building, that kind of stuff. Our power kept flickering but it stayed on. Not everyone was that lucky. No real flooding here but my ex-SILs place may be ruined as there were reports of as much as 1ft or more of standing water where she was.
Hope everyone else is safe.

Unfortunately, many people refuse to heed warnings given by emergency management. We actually lucked out because a cold front moved in at the last minute and knocked Irene to the east, or it could have been much worse for us. There has been at least 1 confirmed fatality here- a tree fell on a man's home and killed him.

minimal damage in my area too, but I've been without power for close to 4 hours now. My whole city is out, but the next town over is okay. I'm sitting in a coffee shop, recharging my phone.

Thank God it wasn't as bad as predicted ! We did really well. No water, power never failed, and we're living to talk about it!

Myself and my household are fine. There are a few downed trees in my neighborhood but we only lost power for brief spurts after the rains ceased. Our biggest issue, being on the East side of the eye was the wind. Not to say that the 7" of rain didn't make for a rather nasty day.
I had a small section of roofing that I had been waiting for the roofer to come and deal with last week - as it is causing issues in the ceiling of the room below .. but of course he wasn't able to see to it before the storm. So Saturday evening found me nailing down a tarp to try and block some of the rain from getting inside. Not the prettiest job I have ever done but it worked.
THAT was fun ... NOT!!!
On a funny note I did think it was quite the introduction to the United States for my two new exchange students who arrived last week (one from Finland, one from Ecuador) .... "Welcome to the US ... that shaking? Oh just a mild earthquake .. and don't worry about all that wind and rain - just a baby hurricane".
The odd thing is that while we only had the power sputter a few times, just four blocks away they have been without since Sunday morning and may not get it back until tomorrow.

We made it okay, although we still don't have power and probably won't until Friday. Had a tree come down thanks to recent rains loosening up the soil, so the wind brought it right down. Luckily missed the house, just some damage to the fences in that corner.
Honey - it really has been a bizarre week, hasn't it?

We are fine but some people in the area are still without power. Some schools are still closed due to no power.
My problem now is trying to figure out who owns the one white and pink girl's sock that landed in my yard.

peace- if it came from my place, don't worry about it- it was out of the scrubbing pile. My niece outgrew those.

I feel very badly for those still without power. One of our hospitals had to close for almost a week because of roof damage. I was very lucky.
I honestly hope that my uncles are right. They say that Katia is starting to make a right hand turn. If she doesn't, she will slam right into the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay and everyone here will be FUBAR
