misspt- Glad that you have good commisaries. I never heard my aunts complain about the commisaries where my uncles were assigned, but it irritates me that our military families may not have top quality meats/ produce- anything where they are stationed. Don't they give up enough?
leanna- Hopefully. I am getting ready to cut most of the family strings. I can't keep going at this pace financially or any other way.

Angel: I'm also sorry to hear about the quality of your commissary. My in-laws were retired military and shopped at the commissary and BX on base almost exclusively. The quality of the food was excellent as was the selection of clothes/home goods at the BX. Maybe it is just really bad management? There is really no excuse for it.

I had a great experience at Walgreens this morning:
Transaction #1: Crest Pro Health 3.99 (3) Cascade Tabs 11.97 Total 15.96
Minus -$1.00 Q for 1 Cascade -$1.00 Q for 2 Cascade -$1.00 Crest Pro Health -$4.00 RR
But it wouldn't work, the cashier was a doll, but she just couldn't get the $4.00 RR to go through. So she said that she would mark down by $2.00 each two of the Cascade tabs. And I said that was fine as long as I got my $3.00 RR. So she "marked down" two of the Cascades to $1.99 and sure enough the RR's didn't print for the Cascade, and I wanted to use them on my Cottonelle deal which was my next transaction. She took it in stride, said she would force mark down the Cottonelle by $3.00.
So I did the Cottonelle deal, I got 3 packages of tp, and while I was in the aisle, a serious couponer came by, she had a huge cart of stuff, said couponing was her full time job, and commented that she is very organized, and had a ton of Q's in a binder, and she must've felt sorry for me with my ONE Cottonelle Q, so she gave me two more $.75 off Q's that I was able to use. And there was another young woman getting the Cottonelle too, and she gave her two extra Q's to use.
So I finally got my tp stockpiled, I paid $7.35 for three packages of 12 Cottonelle and I got back $4.50 in RR. Not quite free, but the net result of $2.85 for 36 rolls of toilet paper -- I'm good with that!
And I have great news! I went to CVS today to get my extra newspaper, I scanned my card and I got my $10 ECB for meeting the $50 requirement for the Beauty Club. So now I have a $10 + $10 + $3 in ECB to use. I haven't gone to CVS to do any deals yet today, but I will probably go later on tonight or tomorrow at noon and pick up the deals (or get rain checks). It's a good feeling to have the $20-$25 in ECB, this is what I would like to keep on hand, and keep rolling them with other ECB deals so I can keep getting everything FREE or close to free from this point forward.
I posted last week that I love my CVS cashier, today there was a different cashier, a woman, and she was so nice, just a great worker. My hat's off to CVS and the quality people they hire.
And I found a bonus Friday with coupons -- my daughter moved, so I was helping her pack up a few last minute things Friday night, and she had a bunch of coupons! She had bought the Sunday newspaper from a few weeks ago and got coupons, and kept meaning to give them to me, and kept forgetting. I snagged those with no problem!

LOL - I LOVE how you put that - 1/2 a game for my Wags. Isn't that the truth? I'm not even bothering to go there this week because we didn't get the Crayola RR and the Goody hairclip is not one I would probably use. It would be good for gifts, but now that my Safeway is no longer taking RR's (waaaaah) I don't want to get stuck w/RR's. I have none at the moment and am ok w/that. But I would think for those that have a "regular" Wags it would be a decent shopping week - I know there's at least one MM with the Complete solution.

I have played "coupon fairy" many times when I've had them to spare. I either give them to someone who has the product(s) in their cart or just lay them on the product in the store. Great job at CVS too!! I like to try to keep around $20 in EBs on hand, but it has been getting more and more difficult to do in the last couple of months. I burned some EBs on 12 packs of Pepsi products last week which took me to below my $20 threshold on my card and DH's care, but it was a good way to get free soda, so I decided to go for it. If you've never been through a Black Friday at CVS, (hopefully) you have a treat in store for you - especially if it is ANYTHING like last year.

It's not like you don't have one at all, but you don't get ALL the deals. I USUALLY wait until WAGs has the TRUE freebies - free after coupon AND giving a RR (so just pay sales tax and get a RR), but I wanted the cheap Cottonelle and needed the cheap CoffeeMate, so it worked out this week. I plan to go back and get a rain check for the CoffeeMate so that I can buy more before the WAGs Q expires at the end of the month; also hoping for more CoffeeMate Qs to become available. ;D

Not quite free, but the net result of $2.85 for 36 rolls of toilet paper -- I'm good with that! SNIP Munjoyhill:Your RR didn't scan because you didn't have anything to attach it to. -Your Pro-Health coupon attached to the Pro-Health toothpaste -Your $1/1 Cascade attached to 1 Cascade. -Your $1/2 Cascade attached to the other two Cascades. That left nothing for the RR to attach to. I'm surprised your cashier didn't realize that. My Wags cashiers have one of this tiny boxes of Jr Mints at the register to suggest & scan for people when they need another item to attach to. It was nice of her to price modify the items, but I have a feeling she didn't do a true price modify, which is why the next RR's didn't print. So, now you know for future reference that you need to purchase an item that does NOT have an MQ attached to it, in order to allow the RR an item to attach to. RR's are just like MQ's so they need an actual item to attach to. That was super sweet of the couponer you met to give you two more Cottonelle coupons. About toilet paper - it's pretty difficult and rare to get free toilet paper, so don't worry about that. I'd recommend that you price it out per SF. Take the total price you paid and then divide by the total SF you have. I think you counted your RR's twice, which you don't want to do, because you will think your cost is lower than it actually is. You can count the RR's before or after, but not both. I'll show you both ways: Price for 3 Cottonelle's $15 Less 3 MQ's of .75 ea Less 3 WAGS IVC's of $1 ea Total = $9.75 Now if you count the RR's you USED in your transaction, you end up with $6.75 for three packages. ( Maybe I made a math error somewhere or I didn't understand your Cottonelle transaction, because you state $7.35.)If you count the RR's you RECEIVED for your transaction, you end up with $5.25 for three packages. I personally count the RR's RECEIVED. My theory is the Cottonelle RR is something I got ONLY for buying the Cottonelle so I only want to count it towards the item it came from. I know DancinMama and others count it the other way. Her theory is that you could lose a RR or not use it by the expiration date. So, she counts RR's when she uses them. Either way works like I said - but you can't have it both ways - lol! I hope my rambling made sense....if it did not - just let me know and either I or someone else will explain it better.

Rite Aid ?: Since Rite Aid discontinued the survey Q's, has anyone had any luck getting the survey receipts redeemed? rubyslippers, My store manager was not there and the associate that works on Sunday morning is a PITA. But I told her that they could price modify one item and she agreed to that. It messed up my total on the J&J transaction, but I was more interested in the Crest Rinse. So here's what you can do, if they won't subtract 3$ as RAQ. Get something price modified, but make sure it's not anything that counts for the Ups or SCRs. HTH I had 2 survey Qs, but she said she was fraid and would do only 1. I agreed to that and told her that I would be back on Monday when the regular store managers are in. Rite Aid: I did the P&G and the J&J deals today. The cashier knew nothing about the survey code ending but before I left, I asked to speak to the manager and he gave me $6.00 in cash, no big deal. He did instruct the young cashier on what to do. I think there's a cutoff date some time before the middle of August. You might want to check. CVS: I picked up my giftcard and got a $3/10 cosmetic Q from red machine and also a $2.00 off Gold Emblem chips, popcorn etc. which made for 2 free bags with DH and my cards. Chips were priced at $1.59. I got the free Skinny Cow candy bars, Revlon lipstick and a food storage container. I'm going to put back my giftcard for Black Friday. I also got a lot of rainchecks. Angel: We have no grocery store in town so we're always travelling with a cooler. I have 4 coolers in different sizes and I pick the size for how much I'll be buying. You can freeze empty milk jugs to keep stuff cold if you have a large cooler. I always keep a large basket, like a laundry basket, in the trunk for bagged groceries so they don't slide all over and so the bread and produce stays nice.

Mizbear: No offense to ImaAngel, but our commissaries down south are generally fantastic. My only complaint is they sell ground beef that is not identified by the cut, which usually means it contains fascia, and other unwanted cuts. Otherwise, the chicken is tyson, the other beef such as steaks, roasts, etc are well packaged and fresh as is the fruit and veg. Maybe angel's is well picked over as people are trying to save more money and shopping the commissary more. This good service has been true of the Ft. Benning commissary, the Gulfport SeaBee Commissary, Keesler's Commissary, Pensicola and Milton's commissary. The commissary only makes 10% above cost and present a wonderful savings to our military and their families. *descending from soap box now* I guess I just have always hit the commissary on bad days then. I have shopped at several different ones and IMHO the meat always look grey. Yes, I do buy my Tyson chicken there, but the burger and red meats always look passed their sell by date. The fish counter is just horrible here. There are usually only 2 or 3 packages of fresh fish. They do have frozen fish, but I am used to fresh fish. The produce section at this one is extremely tiny and very little variety. I am not saying they are all like this, but I must always hit this one and the other ones I have shopped at in the past on wrong days. Maybe I am just high maintenance. It is hard to go from having an organic farm 2 miles away with everything super fresh to going to the commissary where meat looks grey.

So I went back to RA and had more fun - lol Here's an item that counts towards the Oral Care $5UPwyb$25 AND gives overage IF your RA allows overage: AquaFresh Extreme Clean 5.6 oz Toothpaste - Sale price $1.99 Less: $1.50 VV (August) $1 MQ* (Wealth of Health Pamphlet - from RA a few months ago) *I also see what looks like a $1 MQ on Aquafresh's website: www.aquafresh.com/Savings.aspxIf your store allows overage, you'll get .50 overage to use towards something else. If they adjust the coupon down, you'll get the toothpaste free and $1.99 towards the Oral Care UP deal. I also bought another BenGay, using the $3 MQ in today's Red Plum plus an in-ad coupon. So I got another BenGay for free and $4.94 more towards the J&J $10UPwyb$30. Now I have to figure out some other things to buy towards that J&J UP because I'd like to get it. I think it's only good this week, unlike the Oral Care one which goes for 2 months I think.

When I had gone back to RA, I met a woman who's been couponing the last 2 months. We had a very fun conversation and I've invited her to join us on here. So maybe we'll see her!
She's interested in figuring out how to get better deals with "real" food and I know many of you have given me really good ideas on this.

Dancinmama:
Glad you could use the FE q's at Safeway! Mine beeped when he scanned the 2nd one but he went ahead and put it through. I did the Cottonelle deal at WAGS, too. My man. q and IP q both beeped but she put them through--thank goodness it was the nice cashier and not the other one who, I believe, hates people with coupons. She absolutely refuses to "push" them through. Unfortunately, she is usually the only one on Sunday a.m. which is when I have to go in order to find product!

Hi all! I did a nice deal at Shoprite with their Dollar Days deal. I did two transactions which I never do. Bad 973. 1st transaction had 10 packages of Kellogs cereal for a total of $31.98 I had $6.75 in MC for a final total of $25.23. $2.52 a box isn't great but I got a $10 catalina for my next order. ;D 2nd transaction was 4 12pks of Scott tissue and 2lbs of cheese, 1 bic soliel razors, and 2 dozen bagels. I used $6 in MC, $5 in SC and the $10 cat from the first trans for a tinal OOP of $18.13. And I got another $5. I know nothing is free but for me 4 12 packs or the 10 boxes of cereal would normally cost me $30 all by themself so for me it is a screaming deal.

"They do have frozen fish, but I am used to fresh fish." Hi Angel! Nice to see you here. ;D I grew up in Mass and Ct so we were always used to fresh fish also. My mom moved to Az and she had to change the way she shopped. Even when they say "fresh" fish it is normally just previously frozen fish that they thawed not actual fresh. Since you are in the middle of the country I hate to tell you but the frozen is probably actually fresher than the fresh fish. The frozen was probably IQF where as the fresh was shoved on ice and shipped accross country in the hottest summer in memory. Sorry to be Debbie Downer. Otherwise how is Kansas treating you?

Nicky is the infant care book something old? I need diapers. Hound alert... opened last bag of dog food. If anyone knows a deal on dry please post. Mr. Snoopy isn't picky. After 6 yrs on Iams he adjusted to hounded Pedigree and Science Diet just fine. Hey Blues - The infant care booklet was something that came out earlier in the year. I couldn't find it in my store so a nice hound sent me one (was it frugalsuz? damn prego brain!). Anywho, I think the diaper deal at WAGs is decent, but I've found deals that are just as good if not better on Amazon. Just join Amazon Mom and do their subscribe and save for 30% off. You can cancel the delivery subscription at any time. Moneysavingmom.com has a link up on her blog to another blog that details some great diaper deals on amazon right now. Of course, you can't use RR's to buy them, but I get Amazon GC's with my swagbucks so it works out nicely.

I have 2 of the WAGS infant care booklets if anyone wants them. I'd be happy to send them. I don't know the expiration dates. On a happy note, the Cottonelle deal worked at my Wags. My MC's beeped and she thought I could only use one, but when I pointed out that it was on 1 if it was a 12 pack or larger, she pushed them through. I was happy when the RR's came out. I've never used 1-ply TP so I will be curious to see how it works out.

The Cottonelle I bought tonight is the same 2 ply I got in OK the last time I was able to get a deal on tp. I'm reading, but won't be back to posting much until I find a job or another source of income more than the writing I already do. It's hard to hound with no income.

Well, don't be shy about posting a hound if you need coupons! There have been some items that have been totally free today at RA by just using coupons.

Received my FREE Panteen Q in the mail for any one Pantene Shampoo or Conditioner in the mail. What do you think about the inserts this week? One of the two RP inserts of 12 pages had ONE Q in it!! Not overly thrilled with the P&G either. Had two BOGO Q's but not for the same product. What is up with the 25 cent coupons? Does Proctor & Gamble think we're living in 1970??? 25 cents off toilet paper. 25 cents off paper towels. 25 cents off of THREE packs of tissues! You have GOT to be kidding me! LOL!

Leanna, I just had to respond to that. I think they're "testing the waters" to see if we will "go for it." Forget it. I did go to CVS to buy some newspapers, milk, and the Skinny cow. I had two BOGOF Skinny cow coupons. There is a Safeway in the same parking lot, so I bought a small Ducinea watermelon at $1.77, The coupon from 7/24 RP was for 55 cents, which doubled to $1.00, so I paid 77 cents.

LOL! leanna: This is the way it ALWAYS is in my P&G inserts. I know back east that the gals sometimes get higher value Qs in their P&G inserts, but it seems like here on the west coast, we always get the lower values. I think the reason is that when you run out of toilet paper, it's not like you can put off buying it. You HAVE TO HAVE IT NOW!! There's no waiting for a good sale or good coupon to come out, so the coupons don't have to be very good. There was a time when Northern was putting out a $1/1 in the inserts quite regularly. I would use them when WAGs would have the 9-cnt. large rolls on sale for $3.99 (minus the $1/1 MC) AND I had free RRs to burn. That's how I stockpiled TP (and paper towels for that matter) enabling me to get them for free; but I haven't seen a $1/1 Northern Q in ages.

I'm reading, but won't be back to posting much until I find a job or another source of income more than the writing I already do. It's hard to hound with no income. Well, don't be shy about posting a hound if you need coupons! There have been some items that have been totally free today at RA by just using coupons. sharleone: I second that. IF you find that you need a coupon for a freebie deal, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE post a hound alert so we can help you out if we have the Qs.
