Who does your job serve?

Hmm... people who are trying to become doctors and those who are current doctors, I think that runs the income gamut!

My job theoretically serves people of all income groups, but it's paid for primarily from people in the upper income groups. Not sure which answer that would be.

Hmm. .. I'd say everyone because research benefits everyone. It's when it is out of my hands that people apply it based on who can afford it.

I work at a university hospital. We treat indigent to the wealthy. A university system is theoretically available to all even though I work at one of the most expensive universities in the country.

the company i work for subs to the corps of engineers so i guess if you own a boatlive in a flood area or dont want the levy to break that would be who i serve.

I work in a managed healthcare company that primarily serves Medicaid patients - so poor people.

My firm is in the tax reporting business. Our clients are the financial industry.
We provide tax information, that in turn gets reported to the IRS. Thus in the end we are serving the fed govt.

To clarify . . . I'm not asking who pays you. I'm asking who your main customer base is.

For instance, if you work in a hospital, I'd pick middle class. You'd still have your job if there were less poor people. If there weren't any middle class people, you wouldn't have a job because there aren't enough rich people to create a demand for your services.

If you're a social worker or teacher, you probably have a job because there are poor people.

If you sell Yachts, (hehe) you wouldn't have a job if there were no rich people.

I'd say you serve all equally then, because you wouldn't want the levy to break weather the people who lived in the flood area are rich OR poor. Right? That is the right answer . . . yes? I mean, we'd never, ever flood poor people out of their city intentionally. Right?

I put up structural steel for buildings, mostly municipal buildings, hospitals, schools, etc, so I choose all.

Based on this, pretty much all my "clients" (i.e., the people I'm directly doing work for) are politicians and department heads. They all make more than me (even if it's not that much more), which clearly qualifies them as "rich".

I'm here to help the executives. Are you talking about my job specifically, or my company's job? Cause my company will sell product to anyone who will buy it - and our products are sold to people of all income levels.

I'm talking about why you are employed. So end consumer of your companies goods would be the best answer.

My company's revenue is primarily generated by large companies with a focus in the Ag industry. So definitely rich people are who my company serves and who we make the most from.

Work for a commercial architect and all businesses small and big need to build. So we do everything from small churches and fund-raised projects to big corporations and banks.

I work in a hospital and while considered private, we're open to the public. So - everyone in my opinion.

I work in my town's library, so I work for everyone.

I work for a major managed care organization. We have contracts with the state for Medicaid and low income coverage, as well as with Medicare and the standard of providing coverage through employer groups. You may say that we would still exist if there were less poor people, but in fact, our company is a non-profit whose mission is to be able to provide care to everyone in our coverage area, so I don't think we'd be the same company if we only served the middle class.

I work for a very large law firm that handles primarily Corporate Law matters. We have a lot of big, big clients, but also handle pro bono work as well, but if it wasn't for the big, big clients, we wouldn't be able to do pro bono. So, top to bottom I guess.

I am with Archie. My company sells the building supplies to finish the inside of these types of buildings.

I work for County government which of course is paid for by the tax payers. Everyone gets citations - poor, middle class and the rich.

No, it is not the taxpayers, but the IRS, the Treasury.

But you should be able to define the end-item user of your service - not just an agency.
Eg, we (tax payers) hire Congress to write a tax code for us. And we hire the IRS to collect the taxes on our behalf and deliver it to the Treasury.
