Sealy, I seem to recall you saying a while back that your income was going to be going back up after a contract renewal or something? Has that kicked in yet, or will it? on getting the taxes all taken care of. I know that was a difficulty for you last year.

Even though my last official day at work is May 3, I haven't been in the office this week at all, except for Monday. I don't really expect to be in at all next week, and only there for an hour or so on May 3 to say goodbyes. I am getting used to being at home, but haven't been on the boards much (and don't expect to be on the boards much) as I've been job hunting and studying for my professional certification exam, which I am taking next week.

Yes it kicked in but not as much as I thought it would. I'm just going to have to work really hard on getting the small bills out of the way. I had to use my CC #1 again to pay my taxes, gas, and for a new passport for my son because he washed his.

Ok this is what I'm thinking. For my next paycheck I will be paying my mortgage twice. I will shred CC #2 and only use CC#1 for the month of May and then I'll shred that one. After May I'll be able to breathe. I also plan to print out my bank statement so I can figure out where my money went this month. I ended up having to use my CC #1. I really need to get myself straightened out. By the way CONGRATS snapdragon for getting off the 25 - 50K list. WAY TO GO!!!

on cutting up the cards, Sealy! Are you paying the mortgage twice in May in order to get a month ahead on the expense? I know that the YNAB budgeting system works a month ahead like that.

Update: cktc: 4/22/2013 $40,031.12 (3/20/2013 $42,189.14 W70)
I'm afraid to report after just one month I am already second guessing my desire to eliminate my student loan debt. I am moving in with my SO and would really like to start saving for a house. It should take me two more months to eliminate the consumer debt, so I'll take that time to decide how to proceed.
Happy for your reconciliation twinmama, good luck job hunting shanendoah, and congratulations to all on your progress!

Thanks Rocky. I normally don't work during the summer this year I will be working during the summer so I just want to try and get ahead of my bills. I want to make sure my mortgage is taken care of. My SL will be done in May and I might also pay my CC #3 so I won't have to worry about that one either.
I'll just keep plugging away at my debt and try to slowly save in the process.

Yeah my SO's place is underwater, but I am still thinking a three year plan on buying a place. His mortgage is low enough that we should be able to rent it out if it comes to that.

Snapdragon, thanks for the shoutout! Extra mortgage payments are going to start slowing down though, in order to ramp up the savings. And congrats to you for graduating from the 25K list!

I got a job! A month ago I got a temp job and things went well so I was hired permanently. Instead of paying down credit cards, I was saving the extra money in case I needed the cash when I wasn't working. I finally used that cash and paid off 3 credit cards and started paying down a 4th. I have 2 cards left.

Rosebud - Great job and what a mental boost for you! 3 zeros! Congrats on getting a job! cktc - Paying things down is never a bad thing.Yes it can bite you as with the divorce but that can happen to anyone. Maybe you could split the difference between paying things down and saving for a different place? Mega - I have found things come in cycles - you were paying extra on your mortgage think about how much you have saved in interest! Now you are switching gears to make you more (comfortable, happy, secure) - take your pick of word and there is nothing wrong with that. Sealy - Just another month and you can breathe easier so just keep on chugging away. Shane - Good luck on the job hunt. Hopefully you will find something you like soon.

WAY TO GO ROSE!!!!
Thanks Snap
Well it looks like I'm not going to be able to double up on the house payment so I'm going to get as many lil bills down as possible.
I paid CC #3 off I hope it goes through quickly. My SL will also be paid off this month.
Thanking God for that.

It's not official yet but DH agreed that I could have $1000 of our tax refund to put towards our HELOC! I've been paying it off in $500 chunks so that will bump us 2 months closer to being paid off. And, It's not official yet but DH agreed that I could hire a contractor to finish up parts of our remodeling projects that we never seem to finish! So, the HELOC won't have a chance to be paid off because we're going to be adding to it.

Still making slow progress. I have interviews at 2 schools later this week for their ultrasound programs. Even though this is what I want to do I am stressing about not having money to pay the bills that I currently have while in school. I am trying to not worry about it until I know if I have been accepted into a program.

Steadily going down. I'm attempting to keep paying extra every month and am really liking the numbers. If I am able to keep it up my HELOC will be paid off in about 4 years.
I believe in the next few months I am going to try and re-fiance my main mortgage (I am not racing it yet.) It's at 6.5% and I'm hoping I can get it reduced by a percent or two which will help in the future. Before I did not have enough paid off to try and work the numbers.
Everyone keep up the good work.

Hello everyone! Coming in to check in and start our next race Our goal is to have this paid off in a year's time. Hubby got a promotion and doubled our income so that was a huge blessing from God. We are still going strong with our reconciliation and are closer than ever before, thank you all for your support and kindness while I was going through that trial last year. 2013 is so far one of the best years of my life. twinmama85 5/18/13 (5/18/13: $25446.87)
