raven:I'm sorry about your pup. I couldn't imagine having to go through that, considering our pup is our life along with my lil guy. My thoughts are with you and your pooch for happiness and comfort. Kisses and hugs to your 4-legged angel. Thanks Irish Maude. It really sucks and I'm so sad today. Don't know why. I guess the thought of him only being here another month or 2 is getting me down. He's still in good spirits and eating well but I have noticed the last couple days he's getting more lethargic.

DVM I know she did come here and got admin status, but I hadn't seen her since so I was worried about her. Thanks Nidena! So glad to hear she's OK.

If I've left anyone out that has updated since the start of the ProBoards, please email me at rpprt at hotmail dot com. I will try to get us an update at least every other week. I'm not going to attempt a smiley list, but I will try to get us a listing of members who have paid off certain milestones. IrishMaude - I just noticed that I didn't put a zero for your balance - I know you won your race! Congrats again.

I am having something weird... Yesterday, I came home to half a dozen letters from lawfirms all over Philadelphia, telling me I'm going to be evicted from my house, I have a lawsuit, I'm declaring bankruptcy, and I'm saying what the freak is this about?
Today I get a letter from an "arbitration firm" telling me a bank I've never heard of is filing a civil suit and the sheriff is going to serve me papers... um... what?
I actually called BofA and I asked them is there a problem with my mortgage? They said no. So now I'm just wondering... what the freak is this about?

I knew I took a couple of giant steps backwards in February. I gained $1,612.95 in debt this month, and lost $620.20 in savings. I was laid off from one of my three part time jobs in February. The approximate $1400, I would have made for the month at this position, created a huge hole in my income. For the entire month of February, the restaurant my husband works at, a couple nights a week was closed at well. This put us even further behind in everything. I used CC#1 for a dentist appointment $200, and groceries for two weeks, $136.00. The $620.00 decrease in the savings was so that I could pay for our health insurance for the month of March. CC#2, went up $1,276.95 for plane tickets for our 10th wedding anniversary/ vacation at the end of May/beginning of June. (I know it sounds fiscally irresponsible). My husband and I were supposed to go to my step-brother's wedding in Hawaii at the end of March. We had to cancel because I was laid off from work. The good thing was, we still had not booked our plane tickets before I was laid off. So in the long term, we only lost the $129 trade fee from our time share, and we were able to get our week back to use again at a later date. I think my mom and step-dad, felt bad for us. They told me they would pay for our vacation as an anniversary gift and birthday gift, and I was to let her know when the bill arrives. She still has not paid the bill, but the new bill just arrived, so hopefully that will back to zero, before the next update. The good news is that, I was laid off from my part-time position in the beginning of February, only to have another position full-time/temporary position, start this Monday. The good thing is, the salary for this position, is much more than two of my part time jobs combined. My husband just returned to work at the restaurant three days ago. So hopefully, things will continue along this track.

Idlecrush, you said, " I have some money coming back from my taxes and I'm not sure what to do with it. I can put it on either of my 2 little cards and just about wipe them out, but my job situation is not very good right now so I think I'm going to put half on a card and half in savings."
Sorry, I am late jumping in here, but since I just went through a month where I was laid off, I had to rely on my savings to cover my health insurance, and a credit card to cover groceries (not an ideal situation). If you can pay $500/each on two of your little cards, and then apply the other $1,000 savings, you will still be much further ahead. Then again that is just my $0.02.

I have a question that hopefully ya'll will be able to answer or give advice. On my home from work the other day, a debt collection agency called me. I was in absolute shock since each month I pay my bills and check my 3-1 credit report. In 1996, while in high school, I bought a few things from Franklin Mint and used their monthly payment plan. Apparently/supposedly, I didn't finish paying for one of the things I purchased. I really don't remember as I was busy that year with graduation, summer job and moving to my dad's house in the fall before going to bootcamp.
I called him back after getting home. He wanted me to settle for 1/4 of the balance, $45. He said the debt was sold/written off in 1997. I told him MO's limitation was 10 years (VA is 3, if he wanted to go with my location) and I am going to dispute it. I never gave Franklin Mint my SSN.
There is nothing negative on my credit report. If I don't pay it, will it show up? I have no idea how they obtained my phone number since I have lived in 6 states (MD twice) and 2 different countries over the last 14 years.

Update poohbiscit: 3/7/11 10662.10 (12/31/09 $12,277.25 NEU14)
Still plugging along. Not sure if I will meet by June goal of reaching $10K given that what little money I had each month to through at debt is slowly being consumed by the rising gas prices. Our tax money is paying the remainder of our family reunion vacation in July (including our spending money) so at least I know my total is not going up. We were each able to take $650 but that paid my life insurance for the year and most of my car insurance for the year. Hoping to get a bonus but that is uncertain right but I should know by the end of the month since we always get them in March if we get anything.

Lark: WTF?! Have you tried calling the attorney's that are sending you the letters? I'm sure you probably have, but man, I would be all over that like white on rice! Good luck, keep us updated!

Lark: Any news on all of that strange mail? Casey: It sounds like you've got something strange going on, too. First, I would ask them for documentation that you actually owe this money, if they persist in calling you. They sound like a collection agency, way down the line. (Remember, they pay just pennies on the dollar.) I'm thinking like you, their statute of limitations has probably run out, but if they can get you to admit that you owe this money, they can get your time to start over. I think if you do settle, then it will show up on your credit report as a settled debt. My 2 cents - deny, deny, deny. And ask them to stop calling you, then it will all have to be by mail.

Casey, you are NOT responsible for this debt, it's been 14 years? And it's not on your credit report. This is a Trolling Call (yes, means the same thing): it's basically second rate collection agencies (if you can imagine a FIRST RATE one), they buy up the bad debt and then they start harrassing people. And you are being harrassed. If you hear from these people again, you tell them you will file charges. Period. And don't respond again, but next time they call, DO report them to the Do Not Call Registry - it's not quite the same thing, but they will follow up.
