Too soon for a price drop, chiver. I would give it at least another month or two.

Chiver unless you have a need to sell asap I don't know why you would want to drop the price already. And honestly, if I'm looking at houses I'm not sure how only $2000 is gonna convince me that the house is something I should buy when I wasn't interested previously. I don't think $2000 would make or break any deal. I would think that's the type of drop you make after receiving an offer, not when you are trying to get offers. I've never sold a place though.

Selling houses in this economy can take awhile. I wouldn't get discouraged and I don't think I would drop my price this early. I'm with Mourningcloak on this one. I don't think $2,000 would make or break the deal. Hold tight and give it some more time.

Good news today For whatever reason, our agency will be spared furloughs! When the email came out no true explanation came with it. The DoD Comptroller was at our agency today, and there were articles in the news today explaining how much money all Federal agencies will lose by furloughing their auditors, so one or both of those may have been the deciding factor to allow our agency the ability to make cuts elsewhere instead of in personnel. Now to relook at the budget and figure out how to get this debt paid down so I never have to panic like this again!

Home! Home! Home! The deployment is over. Yesterday was an uber-long day. We had to report at 0330 (5:30pm on the 21st, East Coast time) and landed at 11pm last night (9am at my origination) and didn't get home til about 3am...so that's about 36 hours of airports and traveling.

Update Crisde2bdebtfree—5/ 25/2013—$15,618.92--8/31/2010 $16,834 NEU286) Long Island NY
So—I decided to be a turtle for a while, I have some non racing debts to take care of and I would like to add more to my EF. In a few months I will make a plan of how to tackle this debt. I want it paid off by March of 2016 because that is when my mortgage will be paid off and I want to be totally debt free. When I started this race my DH got laid off he was out of work for a year. Than when he went back to work I was laid off and out of work a year and half—so It has been difficult for me to stick to any kind of plan we were just trying to keep up. If I can reduce my balance by 450.00 a month I should able to achieve my goal. Any suggestions on where to start. I know the most important thing to do is NOT add any new debt. Have a great week-end. Happy Racing!,

EF=$431.03$7,524.60 of the balance of CC#1 is at 0% until October. Unfortunately, I had to dip into the LOC again this month. I had a few big expenses that were not expected, but I have been very happy to pay. My son will be testing for this Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do next month and my wife has a painting that was accepted for a show. These two events combined for about $1,500 in extra expenses. I am still moving in the right direction for now. Next month, or maybe in July's update, I expect to add to my debt because I am refinancing my mortgage to lower my rate by 0.75%. This should save me some money monthly, and in the long run, but my debt will be bigger for a short time. My wife has decided to work more hours. My guess is that this will add about $400 to our monthly take home. I am still working on my budget. The extra income should make things much easier to figure out. I did realize during this process that I have reduced my monthly interest expense by $380 since September by paying down my balances and using balance transfers. -movinonup

crisde, While you figured out how much you think your balance must be reduced each month to reach your goal, you have to remember that each month there is an additional expense for your interest. As you reduce your balances, your interest expense will be reduced and the same payments will start to reduce your balances by more each month. You have balances on your Kohl's and Macy's accounts. Store credit cards traditionally have the highest interest rates. Assuming that these two cards have your highest rates, I would pay the minimum on your cards and pay the rest of what you currently pay to your Kohls card. Then work on the Macy's card. Even though you may not see your balance go down that much initially, your reduced monthly interest should pay big dividends in a few months, so don't get frustrated.
This is just a first crack at advice for you. It would helpful to know what your interest rates are and your monthly minimums and actual payments.

UPDATE: nidena: 5/26/2013 $180231.43 (8/22/2007 $223361.2 N453,503,NE648,NPT25) The balance is up because I added my truck debt in as well as the bit that I owe on my CC--about $17k, all told. My HEL balance is actually down $5000 since January. At 7.99%, it's the highest rate so I focused on getting that below $25k. I'm $800 away from that so, after the payment on June 1st, I will redirect the attack to my CC (currently 4%; up to 8% come Nov) and dial my HEL payments back to their regular monthly payments.

It appears that I at least have stopped the hemorrhaging of money for the time being. CC #1 and CC#2 did experience an increase in their balance, but it was for the right reasons. Really, I got a NEW JOB!!! and needed some clothes to get me started. I actually start June 10, 2013. Not only am going to make an $4/hr, I will be guaranteed a minimum of 40 hours per week. The benefits are soooooo much better than what I currently have. This is such a relief, because at one point I felt like I was never going to finish my race. My plan over the next few weeks is with my unused vacation time from my current job, I will pay off CC#3, and then start throwing the rest onto CC #1. Then begin to snowball CC #2, and BCC #2. Hope all of you hare having a wonderful Memorial Day. Cheers to financial freedom

That way, you do not feel bad of throwing all of your money at debt.

Doesn't that screen name look familiar? Hrm... Could it be...? Yes! Yes it could!! It is I, Tobinikui. She of the unpronounceable username. She has returned. (And now, I am done referring to myself in the third person.) Hi all! I know, I know - long time, no write/post/see. I have been keeping tabs on everyone's progress, and I have to say, 2013 is looking like a pretty productive year for a lot of you! I haven't logged in since late 2012, although I've been continuing to track my progress in my Excel file, and using Mint dot com as well. There are quite a few balls to juggle at the moment: My 19 year old stepson moved in with us at the end of January. I got a new job at the end of February (new location, new agency, more enjoyable, with different hours that are just different enough to totally throw off my schedule). We are five months into the process of (in)fertility testing, and are starting an ivf cycle in the morning, after two unsuccessful cycles of a different type. DH is still on track to retire some time in August, and although he's been working part time, he hasn't found anything full time yet. We've put in a new floor downstairs, repaired a roof on the back porch three-season room, cut down 7 trees, and are about to cut down 6 more on Thursday. I am struggling with the idea of putting off any more home improvement projects this year (as we have at least one additional large project planned), if only to save money. That being said, we have managed all of this without taking on any additional debt, thankfully. I've been saving as much as possible, trying to reign in expenses, and doing my best to combat the ever increasing expenses of a husband who is left to his own devices most days, a stepson who eats like crazy, and the two weddings that I'm in this year (one down, one to go - what was I thinking?!), all the while, knowing in the back of my head, that DH’s weekly income drops by 50% come August. Oiy. Anyway. It’s time that I stop tracking all of this on my own, and rejoin the team that keeps me honest! Captains – can I just continue using my previous tagline (updated from my last post on 12/1/2012)? Or do I need a new tagline, etc? Here’s hoping ya’ll will welcome me back with open arms!! tobinikui [2] : 5/28/2013 $118,753.00 (5/13/2011 $150491.11 NPT30, NPT63,NPT92)

Am I bad to say I'm glad I got a $30K break from bankruptcy? It makes me feel bad. Sometimes. And other times - I wish I'd gotten more... I'm glad to see I'm down to 90% of my existing debt. I'm shocked, too. I'm going to have a rough couple of weeks, though, I have to have "girl surgery" Friday, and I'm going to be home, recuperating, for a week or so. And then the medical bills are going to arrive. eek. No EF building for me for the next couple of months. grumble. Seriously, it's outpatient, I'm coming home Friday afternoon, too. Anyway, I just wanted to say hi to Toe-bee-ni-kwee again! And thanks to bankergurl for everything you do! And Kristin you're doing well. And crisde, even when you turtle, you progress... slow and steady wins the race! What are we all going to do when we pay off our debt? Who will we talk to?

Oh, I meant to ask - has anyone ever heard of "Nationstar"? They're a new mortgage company. BofA sold my mortgage! Which - let's be real - is a relief to me, I am so disgusted with them overall. But I have NEVER heard of this bank, and the canned voicemail I got from them tells me they're "a leading lender". In what universe?
*sigh*

Well, I'm trying something a little different with our debt payoff for a little while. I've been doing the Highest Interest first method, but I just feel so frustrated by how slowly each account is taking to whittle down that I'm changing things up. I'm going to do Lowest Balance first for the next few months in order to knock a few little ones off, increase the snow ball & give myself & the hubby some much needed psychological wins. I'm knocking off the smallest student loan ($50/month & 2.18%) & his Lasik line of credit ($177/month & 0%). I *think* I should have both knocked off by the time we go to Disney in September. Then upon our return I'm going back to the highest interest with an extra $227 as a snowball.

Hi, I'm back after a year of being away. My money habits are in need of some accountablity! While i have been paying off slowly, i need to refocus and get on track. Here is my old tag line with updated info.

I read a very interesting article on Yahoo. It's from Kiplinger's magazine. Here is the link: finance.yahoo.com/news/americans-getting-smarter-personal-finances-040001861.htmlThe reason I post it is the following, which kind of sums up why WIRR is so important: If everyone in your community is living beyond their means and carrying large credit card balances, it feels fine and normal to do the same. If, on the other hand, they're all talking about saving and living on less, carrying a heavy debt load begins to feel uncomfortable. You should read the entire article to get the full context. -movinonup PS - As of this moment, my total debt is below $300,000! I don't expect this to be the case when I post my next update, due to my pending refinance.
