We need a military guy as our President ..General Patraeus or another one like him..IMHO...Who knows maybe Congressman West in a few more years... I was a very big fan of Senator Jim Webb from Virginia but he threw in the towel because he was disgusted with the divisiveness and corruption in Congress.. And I would have worked my butt off for General Colin Powell since I think I owed him but of course he was not interested in being president.

Yea actually he was OK with being in the Marines..And Billy was not in any serious trouble when he served as a teenager..He gave away truck loads of Billy Beer to the Marine Bases but that brew was God awful and I think the Marines sent the beer trucks back to him with a note " We don't like your P*** Water"..

... To look and sound ... [...black] ... I think just highlighting that and then to allow others to assess on their own is the best choice. Not looking for soundbytes to take things out of context, are you?

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Sunday shows that 24% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as president. Thirty-seven percent (37%) Strongly Disapprove, giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -13 (see trends). Consumer confidence has fallen to a new 2011 low. At 69.8, the Rasmussen Consumer Index is just a tenth-of-a-point above the lowest level for all of 2010 and 2011. The number of Democrats in the nation tops the number of Republicans for the first time in three months. But, as has been the case throughout the year, the two parties remain fairly evenly matched. www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/obama_administration/daily_presidential_tracking_poll

Not what I would say indicates he does .. A year ago his approval rating was 26%

Is Obama Leading Or Not??? There is a difference between saying that Obama is not leading and saying that not many are following. It is my view that he is not leading intentionally. This is consistent with his history. Take no positions so that he doesn't have to take any responsibility. I'm afraid that Obama is a prime example of the "empty suit" syndrome ~ as they say in Texas, "All hat and no cattle." This was pretty obvious during his original election campaign. It was like watching a reality show ~ all production value. Obama is good at posturing, posing, making vapid proclamations with the air of authority and sincerity. I believe that Obama is doing the best he can, he's just not up to the job [but, if he were, it would be worse because he'd have us become a socialist state in a heartbeat, if he could].

Yes but don't you think when congress comes to an impasse or is stymied that a President should led the way out of this ??
Harry Truman, John Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson, Ronald Reagan, and Bill Clinton were not too bad at getting congress to go along with their proposals... Reagan and Tip O'Neil were drinking buds after hours and didn't just down a few brews...but did accomplish some good things together according to seminars Tip gave at BC after he left congress.. Btw Ole Tip was not a fan of Jimm Carter and was asked about his relationship with Carter by a student and he told it like it really was which surprised most of us..

Yes but don't you think when congress comes to an impasse or is stymied that a President should led the way out of this ?? actually, i will go one step further. i think he should use the bully pulpit like Bush did, and ram all of his agenda down the throats of America. that is what i expect presidents to do. that is what he was elected to do. instead, this wishywashyness has lead to compromises that nobody likes.

Harry Truman was a master at using the bully pulpit and actually got a lot done during his tenure in office.. He would also ask the repub leaders to go for one of his famous walks around Washington DC and politely tell them while they were walking " Just do something, even if it wrong just do something...or else I will kick your fat ass"

Harry also left Washington on a train to go back home, Eisenhower didn't even offer the "Independence"..the Air Force 1 of the time to fly he and Bess home ..possible it wasn't done back then but still..pretty sad, and he left Washington with what, a 28 % approval rating and now is considered in the top five of great Presidents..so one never knows how History will treat a POTUS..we'll have to see.
