Thanks Guys: I was just wondering if it was normal SS: DH and I will swing the cost. The price is not an issue because of the advance notice, THANKFULLY. If they sprung it on us a couple weeks before then cost would be an issue. I plan/hope to volunteer for this trip. DH plans on taking the days off and if not I have a support system in place to get the other kids worked out. OH and I guess I should mention that the letter did say, no child will be left out for financial reasons. Singlemom: I would sign up for the DC trip in a heartbeat, my budget not so much Muttlen: We never did field trips like this either, maybe the zoo, maybe? Renee; Yea what Gin said!

Lil' Smokey has been doing field trips all summer - nothing big but they use the park system one day each week. They go swimming at the Y every Wednesday and then do another activity on the 3rd day. Usually it is skating or bouncy place or something. The last day of summer program they are going to the Cincinnati Museum - that will be a long day for them. Luckily it is all included in the program fee.

azmom - Yeah I know. We did the zoo in Peoria in 3rd grade, then 8th grade class trip to Springfield (IL) to all the historical stuff there. THen high school all the trips were with groups that you raised money with (Media club, national honor society, etc). The only class trip we took was senior year we went to the court house for law day and had a mock trial. Oh the only overnight trip was every 4 years the high school band took a trip to Disney World. I think in the younger grades we had a day outing to the conservation area south of town.

22/25 NSD/CSD, 1 SD, 2 EOD. I ate out at BK on Friday after work and then went to Wal Mart for groceries. I was still hungry so I went over to McD's and ate again. For 2 meals out I spent $5.58 so not a total bust. I still have not gone to Pizza Hut yet but that is okay. Maybe I will save that for next month.

azmom - Those kinds of overnight trips have become more common in the last 10-15 years. The only overnight school trips I ever went on were in middle school and high school. The middle school trips were a once a year "reward" field trip for students who made honor roll all year. They usually paired fun activities with some kind of service project, leadership building activity, or learning experience. Then my senior year the honors and AP English classes set up an optional trip to Ashland, OR for the Shakespeare festival... about 20 students total went and we saw 3 plays in under 36 hours. I very nearly fell asleep during Macbeth because I'd been awake 72 hours (school the day before, then I had to work a full shift, go home and shower/pack, and head straight to school to catch the bus for the trip).
Something to ask about though... does the Outdoor School program use volunteer high school aged counselors or paid adult staff members? While 99% of the high school kids who sign up for that sort of thing are great, keep in mind that the program can't perform background checks on volunteers under the age of 18.

woot! today was a NSD! I stayed home and worked most of the day. Also worked on planning the Florida trip. After the conference is over I'll have 2 full days in the Keys and unless there's a hurricane I expect beautiful weather, dramatic skies for photography and hours on the beach.
I so need this break.
Shared over on the West racers about my debt payoff and basically I'm torn between needing to support my business financially so I can grow and earn more money and wanting to pay off all debts by December.
Emotionally it's just exhausting to feel pulled between these two goals. So I'm looking to keep my billings stable for the rest of the year and add $6,000 on top of the usual invoicing before next year. I have several things in progress to reach that goal and am working long hours to make it happen!

Quick question for those who have seen HP 7b already. Matinee is $7, 3-D matinee is $10. I don't seem to have a problem with 3-D glasses as long as I wear them over my regular glasses (couldn't see anything without my glasses anyway). So is it worth the extra 3 bucks to see it in 3-D? (As a frame of reference, I thought Alice in Wonderland in 3-D was a waste, but How to Train Your Dragon in 3-D was an awesome experience)

renee: having seen the movie in 2d, I honestly can't say that I think 3d would be worth it. (We never see anything in 3d if we can help it - my eyes don't focus correctly, so it doesn't always work for me, and it gives DH a headache most time, so we avoid.) There are scenes I would have liked to see on IMAX, but the IMAX showing was also 3d

Quick update, 12 NS, 3 CS, 17NEO.
Yesterday was CS, mini-D woke up yesterday with a fever and DH had to teach math camp, so I stayed home with him all day. I held him for close to 10 hours. A few times I tried to shift him to lay next to me, he'd look up at me with pathetic eyes and say "I need to lay on your tummy." So we spent the day curled up on the sofa or in my bed. So I sent DH to CVS for Lyesol so I could spray down the bedroom and sofa. Mini-d was much better this AM. Actually ate and played for a while before wanting to cuddle with me. I embraced it, since I know as he grows the days of him wanting me to cuddle and hold him will diminish. DH was able to get off at noon so I am at work now.
Renee- My boss is the same and you just have to remind her that you have to take the 2 days prior to the end of the year or you will lose them.
AZmom- Only overnight trip I did was in high school for a club where we raised the money. Everything else was just half day or full day trips to somewhere in town.

Yesterday was a NSD!!! I didn't even realize it until this morning! I didn't leave the house nor did I have DH pick anything up on the way home...FINALLY!!! Unfortunately today will be a spend day but CSD because I only need to get groceries. I've been holding out for a Fresh and Easy coupon but I am going to have to break and get a few things that go off sale tomorrow like a gallon of mile for $1.57!!! Someone help me I think I have become a twitter addict. I really hope the newness wears off soon. I have been following all of the NFL chatter and other stuff! Even worse DH was given a smart phone at work and now he is on F/B and Twitter too. Before he was my voice of reason and he has become a junkie too The ups guy just dropped off my new waffle maker as I was typing this and I felt the need to tweet it. Someone please take away my electronics...stat

Warning: total rant ahead... With the exception of two pairs of undies purchased under emergancy circumstances, I have not purchased and panties or bras in the past two years. What I own is stained, streched out, threadbare, and overall pathetic looking. But I've made do with what I have because two years later I'm still operating on a near emergency level budget. In May and June, the underwires in the 3 bras that I own snapped one by one. And we're not talking about the plastic ones they put in most bras, no, I'm a large size so they're actual metal wires. Well, thicker than wires, more like boning. Anyway, I wore them as is for 2 ish months because the expense of replacing them is out of reach. Over the last two weeks, those broken underwires have popped through the casing and started actually hurting me, more than just the discomfort of an out of place wire. I drew the line in the sand today when one drew blood. I threw out all 3 of the broken ones and spent $97 for two new bras. What kills me is that because of my size, I can't just wander over to the clearance rack at K-Mart and pick something up for $10-15 to get me through. It's good quality or nothing. And nothing isn't an option. That logical part of my brain is saying "Hey, when you average it out, those bras only cost you about $0.20 a day since you wore them every day for two years." But my wallet is screaming "We don't have the money to spend on this! You'll be eating PB&J for two months now!" Ugh, I hate being poor.

today was a spend day, I went back to the mall to get more exercise clothes - I can barely find clothes I like that are comfortable so I got several shirts and pants plus ordered a few more.
I'm also looking to buy a compost bin today. They're about $100 and my city is doing $100 rebates for a limited time. So it would be just a few dollars for the tax since shipping is included.
I've been meaning to start composting so having the large barrel would be great!

One quick post before we head out on vacation tomorrow!
To date: 24CSD/2NSD; 7NEO; 2MOAN - not bad!
I expect to add 5 more CSD (because vacations REQUIRE budgets!) and 5 more MOANs (because on vacation I have time to exercise) - but no more NEOs.
House and pets are ready for the sitter. I am ready to be away from work for a few days.
Everyone stay cool!

reenee- With school getting ready to start many places will have bra and panty sales- last year walmart had huge packs of panties on the cheap in pallet boxes at the start of school and before Christmas. Even the larger retailers will be running bra sales and you should be able t find the larger size bras that some us ladies need for our "girls". Even if you only buy 1 or 2.

spurdy - Have a good vacation.
renee - Hugs. I know it hurts, but bras are a must. I only had one non-nursing bra that fit for 6 months after I stopped pumping at work. As soon as I got home, I would change into a sports bra (or nursing bra) to make it last longer. I bought 2 more last month and I wanted to puke, but that is the way it goes.
I spent a bit more of my JCP gift certificate today at lunch. I also had a get $10 off an purchase of $10. I went to the mall. Didn't find any office wear or shoes that I liked, but I bought 2 tank tops, a sports bra, and a hot pink mesh workout shirt for days I have to be in the field and my company shirt is dirty. Ironically, our survey department doesn't have any work right now so I have to find work in the office for them.
DH is meeting with his old boss/current client he does contract work for. The old boss wants him to come on to his newly formed LLC as a part time employee. DH 1. isn't sure he wants to work that guy; 2. isn't sure he wants to do that kind of work; 3. Doesn't want to take a job that would require that we got a babysitter for DS. So, we aren't sure what the outcome of the meeting will or what DH even wants it to be. We could use the extra money and DH is thinking about looking into working for a fastfood joint part time for some extra cash if the part time deal doesn't work out.

miz bear - sadly it's not just a large band size issue, because I'm actually not outside the normal range around my rib cage. It's the cup size I have problems with. I'm in a G (european sizing) or about an I (american sizing). So there are very few shops that carry my size, and there's really only one brand that fits my odd ball proportions comfortably. So I die a little every time I have to shell out at least $50 for one bra.

I'm up to 9 NSD ;D All my spending these past few days was budgeted so I'm not counting that stuff. Friday night we got all stressed out and decided to eat out which was not planned so that was the only spend day really. We did a garage sale on Sat. morning and made about $80. Not totally worth the time/energy but we got the garage cleaned out. I donated all the clothes to Big Sisters Monday night and while we still have some stuff in the garage, it will hopefully be gone in the next couple of days so the car can go back in there. Plus that $80 was money we didn't have before so it paid for dinner Sat night. I'm counting it as a NSD though because we knew we were going to dinner and had planned for it. The other days were all planned so good so far this month. We'll see what happens. What do the acronyms MOAN and NEO mean? I see them every once in a while but don't know (and my brain isn't functioning enough to figure it out) Thanks, too for all the book recommendations. I have been taking them to the library to get stuff and DS (6) likes the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series and the Junie B. Jones series but it will be nice to have more options when we go next time. It's hard to navigate and explore the library with a 6, 4 and 2 year old in tow so I need to go one of these days when I can either be by myself or only have the oldest with me so I can sit and look for stuff. I could get lost there for hours without a problem.

MOAN = Moving Our Asses Now aka working out NEO = No Eat Out which is pretty self explanitory.

Update- 13NS, 3CS, 19NEO Not bad usually in the summer I'm treading water at best. But with DH & I both trying to lose weight, eating out isn't a big draw. Plus I made brisket just for us over the weekend. Usually I only do it for a party or special occasion and we don't have leftovers. I did buy vitamins for mini-D & I last night, but I used EBs from CVS to pay for it. Reenee- I feel your pain, while I'm not that odd of a size, I hate spending the money on something only one other person ever sees. My problem is that I can't find ones that are comfortable. YEAH DVM!!!!! MOAN- Moving our a$$ now. Startsmart- Have you considered a solar composter? They supposedly handle all food waste. Our church has a few of them and say they work great. It is a green cone that you see above ground and then it extends down below ground about 2 feet.

MOAN - move our ass now ie exercise NEO - no eating out
update: 10 CS + 9 NS = 19 of 27 Obviously, I won't be meeting my goal this month. But we're still in budget, so I won't complain too much.
Today was supposed to be jury duty, but all the cases on the docket got settled, so it was cancelled. i'm actually rather bummed about that because I'd been looking forward to getting to sleep two extra hours this morning, since I usually start work at 7am and jury duty didn't start until 9am.
Last night, we put DC in a plane to go home for a week. Next Tuesday morning, I put DH on a plane to go work a trade show for a friend's company for a week, and on Tuesday evening, I pick DC up. On Wednesday, DC's BFF flies in for 2 weeks. Tomorrow, DH drives about an hour north to do some training for the trade show. That means that I think today might be my only chance for an NSD all week. Monday we went out to dinner (spend). Yesterday, I had a dentist appt (copay and new Rx toothpaste CS).
I have been reading but not commenting too much because my emotional energy has been low. I'm hoping that this will be a quiet week at home with DH and we can recoup. MIL update: She had her breathing test on Monday. It went better than it did the last time she went in for one, still not great, but better. Again, we're hoping they let us sign papers that say we know she has breathing issues, do the surgery anyway. Now we sit and wait to hear from the MDs. Well, actually, if we don't hear anything in the next week, I'll be giving them a call. Also, we replaced her shower chair with a transfer bench. Huge difference. DH says she's probably safe to shower on her own with the bench, as it lets her get her feet out of the tub before she has to stand up, but do to the complaints from management, we're still going over there a few times a week, and she's only allowed to shower when we're there.

shanen: I think most of us have been to the same point. Just to drained to post yet reading is nice. I at least get that way often.
Well it is sunny now so it looks like DS#1 will be able to do the water trampoline at camp today YEAH! It was supposed to rain all day so really happy that changed. He has been looking SO forward to it. But he is having a blast at camp so I am really happy I sent him for a second week.
DF is no longer getting unemployment so working on our budget. Not fun but he is looking and I have been looking and forwarding jobs to him. Don't have to stress out yet but man the jobs are just NOT there. And the ones that are he is over qualified for. He has 3 or 4 resumes depending on the job. BILs company has not called so we will see what happens with that. If that were to come through it would be a life saver.
Oh and I found a new lunchbox for DS#1 at a garage sale for .50 cents. So in total I bought $3.25 worth of stuff there (quite a few books for the kids also) Very happy about that.

And yes it is the little steps added up that equal huge savings and life changes so great job everyone! spruby: have a great vacation. Shanen: So when are you going to print "airport taxi" on your vehicle..... Now if you could just charge them all

mornin' all - thinking today will be another NSD as I'm sticking close to home. I did get the paperwork for the composter so I can buy that.
Solar Composting- I'd rather get one cheaper since I don't generate that much waste but I hate putting fruit and veggie waste out in the trash. I already move papers and plastic and some metal to the recycling can and have a green waste trash can. Plus, it needs to be above ground so I can take it with me when I move!

Hi everyone! I have been MIA for awhile. I had a some pre-eclampsia towards the end of my pregnancy so I had a lot on my mind for awhile. I had my son on June 3rd and he is the love of my life. I started back to work this past Monday and its been so hard. My mom retired this past fall and volunteered (almost begged) to get to babysit while I'm at work so that is where he is at right now. At least I know he is in capable hands. Being on maternity leave, I tried to save up for it but still came in a little short. Hoping to catch up now that I'm back. I will jump back in for August. It was fun getting to read what everyone else has been up to this summer. Hugs to all who need them! Attachments:

Nuttin: Little Nut is ADORABLE. Congratulations.
MK: We live less than 2 miles from the airport, and its a straight shot, so in general, its not a big deal. Though next Tuesday, when DH's flight leaves at 6:30am, I'm not going to be super thrilled at the time I have to have him at the airport.

Nuttin - He is so so cute and SO much hair. He has more hair than my DS who is 18 months. So my fabulous DH cancelled his meeting today. He woke up late and was going to feel rushed to get there with DS and back home before DS's nap Then he didn't want to do it this afternoon because it was going to be so hot. So then the old boss goes, well can't you just get a babysitter. Because we know people just sitting around waiting to drop everything at the last minute to babysit DS at our house in the boonies. Right. DH was like no I can't get a babysitter. I don't think the old boss realizes that DS is DH's priority and that is his number one job and he doesn't like any one else to do it (including me sometimes).
