I don't think a speculator is someone who puts capital into a company to improve or start it. I would say that stock traders are speculators and, maybe we ought to think about a transaction tax (might eliminate that high frequency trading speculation - non wealth producing proceedure). I would also like to see huge increases in income taxes where income is derived from speculation - that might bring money back to its more utilitarian existence on this planet.

i can agree with this.........another reason why i don't like the market.....the game is set up to give a few an advantage over others.

to assume a business risk in hope of gain; especially : to buy or sell in expectation of profiting from market fluctuations
this is the definition of speculator, so everyone in the market is a speculator

So lets kill the speculators with taxes - Taxes have always had the power to destroy - lets destroy those things that destroyed our markets - the real markets -

bubblyandblue, But first you have to weed out the pack. The idea I suggested 3 years ago would have done just that. But we have surpassed that 'short time' already. Now the melt has grown far out of control.

Decoy, while I sometimes can figure out you posts and, they sometimes make sense - I do have an abiding optimism in this country. If I had it my way I would hope that people take more interest in our country's future and by so doing, would make changes in our revenue system and our central banking system that would yeild a more just society. I think those results may be inevatible but, maybe not in my lifetime - I would however like to be part of that inevitable change in my life time so that I may go into the permanent rest with ease. The world seams intent on running like horses forever but sooner or later they will all collapse if not given a chance to pasture.

Funny you mention horses and pasture. Reminded me of the great solar land UNDEVELOPED out west costing the taxpayers how much? Looking out of town with Greece being a mere 3% of the GDP,pretty funny how one would have to give up 30% (further) of their pay to cover bad debts. This thing has been way out of control for way too long. Look at the paper derivative market price tag alone. Next door out a town is all but here.

bubb-
1st, i hate how big our gov't has gotten, so anything that makes them bigger, is a bigger threat to our future than a broken stock market.
2nd, eduction is the key to change.......not taxes. an educated public, can not be directed easily, like horses to water (in keeping in the theme).......only the poor and gov't are effected by higher taxes.

Maui, how do you propose to educate the public. I am with you on the education thing - (my uneducatedness aside) was it Thomas Jefferson who said something like - 'The only true defense for our democracy is an informed citizenry' With all the dis/mis information going around, the special interst funded reports, refusal by fed and financial institutions to disclose, over the counter (secret) trades, non-prosecution of frauds, reps and warranties frauds - it seams we all have a lot of learning and informing of ourselves if we hope to defend our republic.

'reasonable deduction' is a good form of education, but when used with taxes and a broken tax structure.........it does nothing for me, and hurts our country.

1st.....we must all have the same mistrust of gov't that our founders had. they so mistrusted (big) gov't that they wrote the constitution to protect us from it, and that is why jefferson was always concerned about an "educated public".
we all now see the result of a mindless public that yields to gov't. our gov't no longer works for us, as we work for, and are controlled by them.

I have a couple ideas. We can start by implement the Mayor of Atlanta ideas across the board. All work places should have mandatory financial planning sessions. The more people take care of their money the more profit in the end. School children should also be taught more about finance at school, at a young age. My kids love money, we should be directing that into smarts about taking care of it, I am.
We also need to be educating our youth, and anyone else that doesn't get it, when the government is paying the bills it's actually US that are paying the bills. Being a liberal ins't the same thing as govt pays(socialism). IF you want to do something go out and do it YOURSELF, don't expect someone else to do it for you. A few thoughts off the top of my head, what do you think BB??

i like this......but more private interaction and not gov't interaction in this economic education, so it has a chance of working.

I say cut the head off the snake, the EPA. Then start building more refinerys. Start using more natural gas. They are going to cut coal production, screwing the consumer one more time. Respects

Selling @ $100 & buying back @ $85 is not a bad trade (short sell).
