He's no Reagan. We're at war, ladies and gentlemen, and we must manage the end of these conflicts without repeating past mistakes that made our engagement longer and our sacrifices greater than they should have been. It's not that we wish to disengage from the world, don't get me wrong, but rather that we believe the best long- term national security strategy is rebuilding our core here at home. Now let me say something about civility. For the sake of the younger generation, it concerns me that civility, humanity and respect are sometimes lost in our interactions as Americans.
Our political debates today are corrosive and not reflective of the belief that Abe Lincoln espoused back in his day, that we are a great country because we are a good country.
You know what I mean when I say that.
We will conduct this campaign on the high road. I don't think you need to run down someone's reputation in order to run for the Office of President.
Of course we'll have our disagreements. That's what campaigns are all about.
But I want you to know that I respect my fellow Republican candidates.
And I respect the President of the United States.
He and I have a difference of opinion on how to help a country we both love.
But the question each of us wants the voters to answer is who will be the better President; not who's the better American.
Now, behind me is our most famous symbol of the promise of America. President Reagan launched the 1980 general election campaign from this very spot. It was a time of trouble, worry and difficulty. He assured us we could "make America great again," and through his leadership, he did. Today, I stand in his shadow as well as the shadow of this magnificent monument to our liberty. www.nationaljournal.com/politics/huntsman-transcript-i-m-asking-for-the-greatest-privilege-americans-can-bestow--20110621Compare that to Reagans 1964 speech that launched him on the national stage. Huntsman isn't even close. Reagan told it like it was.

He's no Reagan.
True but Huntsman is a virtual unknown across the country so he has a tough road to hoe....and tons of money to bring into his campaign war chest..

Reagan actually inspired hope and he actually changed things for the better. He wasn't an all words just words empty suit.

McCain was "nice" to Obama. See where that got us?? Someone needs to toughen up soon. If they all think Obama is not going for the jugular they are wrong.

Reagan can't be blamed for ignoring the threat of Osama Bin Laden. Not for another few years would any analyst see Bin Laden as a significant player in global terrorism; not till the mid-1990s would his organization, al-Qaida, emerge as a significant force.

Bin Laden served our interests in booting the Russians from Afghanistan in the 80's. Hussien served our interests in sticking to the Iranians in the 80's. Funny how it turned around to bite us in the butt...............

The CIA didn't consider Bin Laden a terrorist until after Reagan left office...so only the Reagan haters want to blame him for Osama bin Laden becoming the head of al Qaida and that is a bum rap but if that is your thing then go for it..

I didn't blame him. My point is that what seems like a good idea today can come back to haunt you tomorrow in a way you never thought possible.

... Reagan actually inspired hope and he actually changed things for the better. He wasn't an all words just words empty suit. A couple of hightlights of the Reagan years: "By the end of his term, 138 Reagan administration officials had been convicted, had been indicted, or had been the subject of official investigations for official misconduct and/or criminal violations." --Haynes Johnson, Sleepwalking Through History: America in the Reagan Years Creditor nations can sometimes lose their status and become debtor nations. This happened to the United States in 1988 when its balance of payments turned negative. www.investopedia.com/terms/c/creditor_nation.asp

But none of them are running against Obama right now.If they all just berate Obama, there will be nothing new we haven't heard many times over and no one gains a thing. They better wake up and start going after each other.

Funny how it turned around to bite us in the butt............... I blame Carter. The damned presidential crystal ball worked fine when he took office. Reagan had to send it out for repairs and it hasn't worked right since.

That might explain the concern with arming rebels in Syria, Libya, and Egypt since who knows if these rebels will turn out to be terrorists and use these weapons against us..
We did arm the Mujahadin in Afghanistan ....Charley Wilson( Charley's War in the Afghan) did a lot of that himself but who knew then they would become al Qaida and plot attacks on the USA???

Huntsman wanted to be compared to Reagan. Some folks want to blame Reagan for Bin Laden and Sadam Hussein. Like the Obama admin wants to blame George Bush for everything that's wrong.
It's a dirty world and the players on the world stage can be extremely unsavory. Presidents have to deal with the realities of the world as it exists during their tenure in office. Do they get dirty? Yes.

They better wake up and start going after each other. Obama is vulnerable so it is just politics as usual to exploit why Obama is so vulnerable i.e economic slowdown, and slow exits from Iraq and Afghanistan, and involvement in Libya..

I think it was a mistake and totally unnecessary for Huntsman to lead with this puling call for civility. Obama's always calling for civility and then his spokesmen say nasty and violent things. The Democrats can trash Republicans all day long but they're always calling for civility. It's a stupid exercise in futility. Politicians ought to simply tell it like they see it.

Presidents blame the previous administration...even your hero,Reagan----"The problems we inherited were far worse than most inside and out of government had expected; the recession was deeper than most inside and out of government had predicted. Curing those problems has taken more time and a higher toll than any of us wanted. Unemployment is far too high."

Don't you think terrorists are using our hatred for muslims to recruit ? Do you think Muslim religious book which instructs Muslims on how to think of non-Muslims helps terrorists recruit?
