We have several projects ongoing where data is just going down a hole because the person left or a product wasnt pursued but nobody cancels the project. The people in R& do not keep track of things properly so we will bust our ass doing months of work only for person A to leave with no way to recover the original data so person B reinvents the wheel. Over and over. It takes a lot for me some days to not yell at people. I thought academic science could be assinine. Its nothing compared to corporate science where money and time is no object so people can be stupid for all eternity. I don't consider myself a genius but then I deal with PhDs and food scientists who are further up the ladder than me and I start wondering if maybe I could have been a Nobel laureate if these people are supposed to be the bar for knowledge and expertise. The last project I did was a blinded study and the results were tremendous. Even in my narcotics befuddled brain, I could see how the blinded groups fell out. That data was so incredibly tight. When I passed it off after having done the stats on it, I was really anxious to see how it collaborated with the blinded groups. It has never been published, and the study was very relevant. I’m guessing that had I been around, I’d have gotten the blinded groupings and when I got the abstract written, they’d have paid attention. They were still putting Humpty Dumpty back together at abstract writing time. What a waste!

I fed the dogs today because Mister is getting home late. He was on his way home from work when he got a call requesting he pick Aunt G up from rehab and take her home. Newbie is on a diet again, because she is overweight again, and she is NOT pleased. Mister bought her some food from the same brand we buy, that is supposed to help with weight maintenance, and he has been feeding her less than usual. The first couple of days, she was bouncing around and trying to bully us into giving her more food or some snacks. She was also trying to mesmerize Mister with her funny eyes, like she did when she was flirting with him to convince him to bring her home with him. I really, really wish our entire backyard was fenced in so she could run around more. The part that is fenced in around the deck is not big enough for her to really run around and play. When we let her outside of that area, she is like a wild child, running wild and free, with the zoomies. That is really the only time she comes to life, other than when she is bouncing around, trying to convince us to give her some food or treats inside the house. Other than that, she is pretty much a slug. Unless there is some kind of commotion, if you come over and she is lounging in the back of the house, you might not even ever see her. But when we let her outside the gate, where she has access to the entire backyard, she comes to life and is a totally different dog. Still very obedient, but much more lively. But because the entire area is not fenced in, we can’t let her just run around outside if one or both of us aren’t outside with her. We got a quote to fence in part of the back yard about 3 years ago, and that was around $12k. Because the costs of materials had skyrocketed, I didn’t think the quote was unreasonable. It was just more than we were prepared to spend at the time. But just fencing in part of it doesn’t really make sense either. To do it properly, will cost even more. The lot is 3/4 acre, and most of it is in the back. So all of that is why I started trying to come up with other ways to get her some exercise without killing myself trying to keep up with her. But those things require me to be outside too, which is fine, as long as it’s not cold outside. And sure enough, she regained the weight she’d lost during winter, when we weren’t outside playing like we had been. Boy is just a smidgeon taller than her, but she looks like she is a lot bigger than him. That is because his body type is leaner than hers. Her body type is what I guess would be more muscular than his, if we were good about her being muscular instead of fat. Boy is also just more energetic, period. I can tell which dog is coming down the hall, just by the sound. Boy usually trots, whether he is following you, you called him, or he is just coming to check in to see what you are doing lol. Newbie usually walks at a much slower pace inside, and does not follow you. My dogs are overweight too. I don't feed them very often, it is usually my MIL or my DH, so I have very little control over it. I do walk them twice a day, no matter how hot or cold it is. When it is extremely hot or cold, they will shorten the walk...or if it is raining very hard. If it is just drizzling, we walk anyways. The other day, I had a hair appointment, and I called DH on the way home, and he said they just got home, and he offered to walk the dogs, but I told him, no - I will be there in a minute. I wanted to walk them b/c my watch told me I needed more steps. Without that bit of accountability, I probably would have let DH do it. It was a pretty nice day, so I had extra motivation to enjoy a walk outside with my boys. We got Harriet back from our dog sitter’s with an 8 lb weight gain. She’s a 38-40 lb dog! Her halter no longer fit her when we picked her up. We had to get the weight off of her before taking her to to the vet….luckily we had nearly a year. I think Harriet hated us, no longer was her meal a ration of dog food, topped with rotisserie chicken and soaked in chicken broth.

Getting my favorite guilty breakfast. A sausage mcgriddle. Mine's a bacon egg and cheese biscuit. TD makes homemade egg McMuffins. It’s amazing how much better they are with a slice of real cheddar and a slather of Dijon plus horseradish. Starbucks does make a pretty good sausage McMuffin. Not as good as the ones TD makes, but these tend to be our road trip drive thrus rather than Rotten Ronnie’s.

Back from Taipei excursion. We saw the changing of the guards at the Chang Kai Shek Memorial. Holy crap! This monument out-monuments just about anything you’d see in DC! Quite impressive.
We got back at 2, all aboard at 3, so another 10 min.
Have the captain’s cocktail party this evening. Which of the 2 nice dress outfits should I wear? I have worn both about 3 times already.

Even though I ducked out of organized (or any) religion 40 years ago, if I believed still, I would swear that Trump is the anti-Christ Revelations talks about.
The fact that so many in organized religion suck up to him just befuddles my brain. Isn’t he what they were warned about?

Dang, my hips are still cranky from yesterday. I only carried my phone half the time and had over 8000 steps. The biggest chunk of walking was when we climbed stairs to see the worlds biggest outside Buddha. We couldn’t take pictures inside, so left my pack with my phone on the bus. I have to rip out about 4” of lace knitting. Not only did I screw it up, when I changed out balls of yarn, the newest one is glaringly different from the last one used and it looks horrible. I love these independent yarn dyers, but HATE the inconsistency. This was too damn much work to have it turn out like this. I hope you feel better by tomorrow. Thanks. Hips started feeling better around noon, so I am not as concerned. Having them feel cranky is my norm, but usually by the next morning, I’m good. I woke up with them still unhappy. I should be good for doing this again tomorrow, but my concern is that we have 9 consecutive days in Japan coming up. I may have to bail on some, to save for more interesting things.

i didn't say never. i said i could not imagine it. in 2016, i could not imagine an electorate stupid enough to permit the commander in thief to become president.
now, i can readily imagine it. i can even IMAGINE it happening again.
so, yes, when your situation changes, so does your imagination. Let's get something straight: unless there is a drastic change in the "sheeple" not only can it happen again, it WILL happen again. Now whether it will be the orange paint addict or one of his (potentially even worse) followers who would get into the WH I can't say, but it will happen and it will be bad! This was my point. Back in 2016, I could ‘t believe that there were so many that were willing to accept the crap that came out about him. This was crap that killed more than one presidential candidate, or a congressman’s career. Why are people so willing to accept him assaulting women, grifting the government, refusing to pay for services rendered to him, cheating on financial documents and being a patsy for Putin? Any one of these are lousy, but string them together and you have a lifetime of a person who has the worst possible morals ever. He wasn’t kidding when he said he could shoot someone on 5th Avenue and get away with it. Why is this allowed? Do those that back him have comparable morals?

i have never flown business class. i can't imagine doubling my ticket price for extra legroom and meals. it is ridiculous, imo. i can use that money for expensive dinners, an extra night in a hotel, etc. it seems like business class is just a way of waving around your wallet to me. nothing i have ever wished to do. I guess that’s a choice one makes. You may think it’s ridiculous, we do not and it factors in what we pay for trips. Between my hips and DH’s RLS, business class makes long hauls bearable.

Yep, we considered pods, I called and ad locally and we started getting hammered with calls. I just told them we weren't ready and quit answering. If I can find a local place I can go to and get info I will. I hate trying to get info about anything. I just quit answering my phone, jeez. Hubs is to hot, going to have to lower the heat. I cracked a door and window in here to cool it off for him. DD and I are always cold. He said he has been covering and uncovering all night. I don't want him to sleep poorly because of me.Going to see if I can find some good show. I like the series ones. But seems like they are not refreshing movies as much. I have seen a lot of these some time ago. And we have paramount with our Amazon, so quite a few added there. I have the accounts pulled for the attorney. I do have one I need to look at more paperwork on. I gave the CPA the package on that one as its and annuity by an ins company and not sure how she has to treat it, but its also an IRA we have to take distributions from. Have to see how all this shakes out. Paperwork for MIL's response to the VA, just need to write a cover letter and mail it out. Will try to do that before bed tonight. And in the morning DD and I are going to get our quarterly blood work done. Didn’t you say that his treatment included some sort of hormone block? It sounds like he’s doing a male equivalent of menopause.

We are back from our last excursion in Hong Kong. We went to Lantau Island, the beaches, a fishing village, went to a HUGE temple and had a quite nice vegetarian lunch at the temple. Our trip back was by cable car, with spectacular views. It was quite a nice day, I put too many miles on my sneakers and my hips are unhappy with me. We finally had a clear sunny day, mid 70s and perfect.
It is now a little after 5 pm and TD wanted to go wander through the $$$$ mall next door. I’ll just dose up on drugs and press on, tomorrow is a sea day, so I don’t have to do anything.
All aboard time is 10 tonight. We have to do a face to face exit interview with immigration. That opens at 6:30-10 tonight. There is a laser light show scheduled at 8 this evening I’d like to catch. No idea what we are doing about dinner. At this point, I’m almost tempted to have dinner off the ship, since we have the time this evening.
Hong Kong is a very eclectic city. We learn a lot about life here from tour guides, and today we had a fabulous one. He was telling us about the 472 st ft apartment he and his wife live in. They bought it back in 2015 or so, and it’s worth about 10x or $5M now. This apartment is considered big for them. Since Hong Kong has gone back to China, he was talking that they are 27 years into the 50 year transition, and he’s not liking what he is seeing in the transition. If things continue on this, his intention is to go back to the US to live. He has spent his life living in both the US and Hong Kong, so has that flexibility. Some of the other guides have discussed changes since control was given over to China, and most have been very guarded in what they say, but clearly don’t like what they see. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
Taiwan is our next stop.

have you thought about PODS at all? I used them twice to move, pricing was reasonable. I paid a fee for each of pickup and delivery, and then the storage was $200/mo while I was actively storing. When I was looking at moving from KY to WA, I priced out UHauls, PODS and a full service move. PODS were as much as a full service move, once you need to move them a couple thousand miles. When I moved (I should have help the spreadsheet I had), I facotored in what a full service move would cost. For using UHaul, I needed to figure out what gas would cost (those things suck gas like you wouldn’t believe) plus hiring people to move furniture, p,us packing supplies. With PODS, there was also the cost of hiring people to move stuff on both ends and also packing supplies. The full service move wound up being the average of what the rest would cost.

Back from tonight’s excursion. It was a vintage tram ride through Hong Kong, dinner at a really good Chinese restaurant and a visit to an open air market.
I walked from one end of the market to the other, and the only thing I saw that tempted me were men’s shorts like TD wears. Had there been some in his size, I’d have bought a couple pair. It was a good evening.

That's the funny part, tbop77 . If he's THAT rich, why does he need money, especially from his much poorer minions? It's just part of the con... I think in his mind his money is HIS money that he earned through smart grifting. Since he’s only being picked on legally because he is running for president again, and since being president doesn’t benefit HIM but instead benefits the US and the WORLD, it’s right that everyone else pay both his campaign fees and legal fees. After all, if he had stayed at Mar A Lago and spent his time playing golf and running his fabulous company rather than being president, he would be much, much, MUCH richer now. So it’s right that he get reimbursed for all the expenses generated by him agreeing to be the best president in the history of the universe and saving the planet for all humanity. The problem with staying at Mara Lago was that while he was president, he got a taste of grifting at another level. It’s kind of like flying business class once, once you get a taste of it, you can’t back down. I’d love to know the total amount he managed to scam over those 4 years off of the US treasury and other nations. I’d guess it was easily magnitudes higher than his salary.

Through immigrations, have Hong Kong $$ and have got clothes in the washer.
There is a very upscale mall attached to the cruise terminal building, and you’d think there would be ATMs everywhere. Nope. There was ONE bank in the mall, but it did have about 10 ATMs, so the group of cruise passengers that we acquired along for the hunt all were able to get cash. I did hear questions in the background about how many HK$ there were to the US$. Seriously? It was announced, it was on the TV and in the daily newsletter. They also informed us that the local open markets (obviously not the mall) only take cash, no cards.
I should go downstairs and get another cup of coffee. I have 30 min left on the washer, so will stay parked in my room until I get kicked out.

Up and showered and dressed. Last night was surf and turf for dinner, and not only did a have the filet along with the lobster, I went to the line and got a piece of prime rib too. The filet was pretty small. Lemon meringue pie for dessert. We have a face to have immigration in Hong Kong. TD has an early excursion, he said it went more like Singapore and not like Egypt (the best and worse face to face we had last year). That’s good, I am waiting until the early excursions get through before I go down there. I’ll take my Kindle to read while I wait. My excursion is not until this afternoon, and TD’s comment walking out the door was to ask me if I could wash his shorts. Ya think if you took more than 2 pair we wouldn’t be in the laundry room each night? After reading what soupandstew wrote, I have to wonder if he has me similarly trained. I SAW his 2 pair of shorts, and knew we were going to be spending 3 weeks where it not only was stinking hot, but he was planning on diving in them and said nothing. I KNEW that was insufficient! Something to think about…..

This is a bit, so feel free to scroll on by, but I would like to pick the brains of folks here, especially those who've had therapy. I've been doing some work in an effort to be more intentional and less reactionary. By nature and history I am a fixer, and typically go from zero to sixty on autopilot in response to anything and everything. I recognize this is not a healthy behavior mentally or physically, and sometimes does not bring out the best resolution to a problem. As we moved through our recent house repairs I made a conscious effort to turn off my auto-response and honestly evaluate the severity and urgency of any problems popping up. Needless to say, many things arose and they indeed did not warrant the Defcon 10 reaction that has been my norm. Interesting, DH does not seem to value the "new" less reactionary me. He seems to feel oddly threatened about my calmer, more measured response to a variety of situations. This morning he expressed his concern about the speed at which the new deck finish was curing and drying. I looked at it and agreed that was a valid concern. He wanted me to take photos and text the deck guys with our concern. I said I would after I took my shower (he showered early in the morning and I was going to shower after breakfast). He was not a happy camper. Realistically, 30 minutes difference in taking the pics and sending a text does not make the smallest difference. Have any of you who've worked on yourself found that the changes you see as positive aren't necessarily welcomed by others? Thoughts, experiences, insights and wisdom welcomed. I suspect he is trained to have you jump onto things the minute he mentions them, and is now at loose ends when you now don’t jump. This is not a you issue, but a him issue and he needs to figure it out. JMHO

I have gotten to the point that there is very little (if anything) not worn when I get home. At this point, all of my warm weather clothes have been worn, and all that remains is clothing for cooler weather. Packing for Bali at around 100° to Alaska, where late snow in early May is not out of the question was rather interesting! How many suitcases did you take? I have never been on a cruise, so have no concept of how much room you have. Just one, but did take my 25” bag, not my carry on. If I hadn’t needed to deal with Alaska weather, I could have gotten away with my carry on. I can (and have) traveled up to 6 weeks with my carry on and backpack. My packing list has 4 pair of shorts, 8 t shirts (3 sleeveless), 4 slacks (2 heavy and 2 light), one pair of jeans, 4 sweaters (2 cashmere, 2 ss linen dressy sweaters), a skirt, my light puffer jacket, raincoat shell, nylon jacket, 2 swimsuits, hiking shoes, sneakers, flats and Tevas, shortie pj x 2, socks and underwear. This is for a week longer than 2 months, we do have laundry access until the end. In Bali, I did need to send shorts, shirts and underwear out to laundry. On the world cruise, TD and I each sent a 25” bag (50 lbs) ahead to the ship. I took a second 25” bag (40 lbs) and he took a 22” carry on (30 lbs). We both had backpacks carrying electronics. He tossed a duffle dive bag into his bag at the last minute. My bag had all our OTC drugs, hamper, toiletries and other things we needed. So we had 170 lbs of luggage, not including electronics. In London, we shipped his dive duffle home. It weighed 40 lbs and contained his dive gear and a lot of our summer clothing and shoes. On our flight home, we had 3 x 70 lb suitcases and his carry on was crammed at 40 lbs. Our backpacks were stuffed even fuller. So we brought home nearly 100 lbs more than we brought and we didn’t shop near as much as many others. You should have seen the jockeying for spare suitcases! Any store near the port that sold luggage had a gold mine on their hands. Packingwise, both of us did pretty good for that trip. For purchases, I bought spices, a linen table cloth and napkins from Portugal, a couple of sweaters and a bunch of silk/cashmere pashminas I gave away as gifts. TD bought a new camera, I bought a watch.

Due to get into Hong Kong tomorrow. We have received our immigration instructions. The whole ship needs to be cleared by 10 am tomorrow with a face to face meeting with officials. Those who have early morning excursions are urged to go through first. The rest of us cannot reboard until 11 am. We had to jump through these hoops when we got into Los Angeles on the World Cruise. Hopefully, Hong Kong officials are more efficient.

I read an article yesterday about dressing more like a European and building a capsule wardrobe. After I clicked away from it, I thought I should have sent it to my DD. She is a flight attendant and lives out of a suitcase much of the week. She has not moved 100% of her wardrobe, and is likely to move next year. I know a few of our YM members are Capsule Wardrobe Subscribers, so if you have any articles about how to build a capsule wardrobe, I would appreciate if you share with me. I did a lot of reading about capsule wardrobe ideas before DH and I went on a 18 day cruise last winter. It really worked well. I came home with one pair of pants and two pairs of shorts I didn't wear, everything else was used. I got a lot of ideas on pinterest. If you search for vacation capsule wardrobes, you will get a lot of hits. There are also articles specific to region of travel and climates. I find to live out of a suitcase, it really pays to buy the right clothes. Items that look good with very little bulk that can be hand washed are your friends. I have gotten to the point that there is very little (if anything) not worn when I get home. At this point, all of my warm weather clothes have been worn, and all that remains is clothing for cooler weather. Packing for Bali at around 100° to Alaska, where late snow in early May is not out of the question was rather interesting!

I don't know how I can live in a city of over 200K and there's not a store that sells applique needles. I even wanted big eye ones. This is the kind of stuff I think that covid caused. It's a quite the vicious circle. Folks just bought from amazon. Now bricks and mortar stores are carrying less. They don't have what I want, so then I have to order from the amazons. I also don't WANT to order through the amazons. At this rate I'm going to start hoarding up the basement with craft stuff...if all the stores are going to close or cut their selection, I legit don't know if I have a choice. We have at least 2 independent craft/yarn stores where I live (there is supposedly a third, I’ve not found it yet). The owner of one lives down the street from me. Anyway, I try to hit the stores first. The one store said that Covid allowed them to expand their business as they have a decent online presence, plus they were willing to do pick up orders. Before I left, I realized I needed a size smaller needle. Favorite store (I do try to buy mostly from neighbor) didn’t have it. Second store is downtown, where parking is nuts. I looked on Amazon and they’d have charged me what the needles cost to get it there before we left (only one available and no prime shipping). I bit the bullet and drove downtown, getting there as they opened to score parking. I do pay a premium in price, supporting the independent dealers.

toomuchreality I'm sorry you had that incident in your new building. It never ceases to amaze me how vulnerable we are, and how things can change in a second. I was driving behind a big truck on the highway the other day, and when I started paying more attention to the truck I realized the cargo didn't look all that secured. One bad move, or something getting lose could mean death for me. When I lived in TX, I was driving down the highway behind a car. Something made me look at the wheels, and the back left wheel didn’t look right. I slowed down, dropped back and changed lanes and he had a hell of a blow out. I don’t know what made me look at his tires, but it definitely caught my attention. In WA, I got behind a service truck that had not secured his equipment doors. There was expensive equipment scattered down the side of the road. I finally managed to catch his attention to tell him he had lost several things along the road. At least for him, he was dropping equipment along the side of the road, had the door on the other side not been secured, it would have been more of a problem. However, bouncing off a moving truck isn’t exactly helpful for longevity.

All that I could think of when I was listening to this (loud) conversation was that we were cruising with a bunch of idiots. The 2 guys were talking between 2 tables, so you couldn’t help but to eavesdrop on their politics.
I did get quite a snicker as to how screwed the guy was by the clerk selling jewelry. I didn’t say anything, because the money talk from dong to $$ was going fast and furiously, and I realized that he didn’t realize what the exchange rate was. About 25,000 dong = $1. He paid over $50 for something that should have been about $20. This is really a problem when you don’t exchange money for local currency. If you do, I find you keep better track of costs than if they offer you a price in $. In Thailand, they wanted $5 US for a fridge magnet that I paid about $1.50 in local currency.

Oh, Lord….
I just got of an excursion around Ha Long Bay. The stairs to the top deck were rather challenging, so chose not to go up to the top deck. I got stuck in the cabin buy a couple of Trumpers. Some of the more interesting statements made….
Trump never lies, he always tells the truth. All the world leaders respect him. Illegals are really Democrat voters. Science is a big lie.
I wish I had something to write all the things down. I should have gotten up and moved away, but it was like listening to a train wreck rather than rubbernecking it.

We just got back from our excursion in Ha Long Bay. OMG! This place is lit up like Las Vegas at night! Anyway, we went to a Buddist pagoda (and yes, I got pics of the pagoda’s cats), went to an open air market (didn’t see any jackfruit), had Vietnamese coffee (gotta run down coffee beans tomorrow) and had pho. This pho put everything I have ever had to shame. I wanted to take a bath in that broth! How the hell do they make it that flavorful? Our last stop was at a pearl factory, where I did do a little damage. However, one woman in the group plunked down $24k on a pearl necklace with black pearls big enough to gag an elephant.
We were supposed to have dinner at The Chef’s Table tonight. It was the Indonesian menu, TD’s favorite, but neither of us are hungry. I tried to rebook for tomorrow, but they are fully booked. I’ll try for a cancellation tomorrow.

At a leisurely breakfast, we don’t dock until noon.

Grrrrrr…….
Got back and checked our balance. We have a credit on our account. Turned out, my excursion was canceled. I was doing a dim sum tour of Hong Kong. TD was doing a walking tour, rated as demanding. I try to avoid these as it’s just too rough on my hips. I will do them occasionally, but know that I’ll need the good drugs later that night.
So went down to find out why. Apparently not enough interest. So chose another tour, Hong Kong by tram. I’m now waitlisted. If that doesn't come though, I’m going to be pissed.

Trying to cool my body down. We just got back from an excursion to My Son Temple near Da Nang and it was HOT. Between TD and I, we guzzled 6 bottles of water and were utterly drenched in sweat. The hike to the temple wasn’t bad, but the heat made it utterly miserable. Guide said it was 40° out, and my brain is too fried to make the calculation to F.
We went to Marble Mountain, and a marble shop. There were some gorgeous carvings, including 2 beasts I’d have liked to bought and put by the front door. TD put the kibosh on that…..party pooper!
Next we went to China Beach. OMG! I could have spent all our time in Vietnam here. It was a perfect white sand beach, that was not wall to wall bodies. So beautiful.
Had a Vietnamese lunch, which included a whole chicken…including the head. Someone grabbed it thinking it was just a piece of chicken, until they looked at it closely.
So 3 bottles of water, and now 2 cans of soda and I still haven’t peed. I’m thinking I’m wearing that liquid!
