ABC News’ Mary Bruce Reports: With the presidential election still 18 months away and the GOP field wide open, 44 percent of voters say they are more likely to vote for a generic Republican candidate than President Obama, according to the latest Gallup poll. Just 39 percent would back the incumbent president. The level of uncertainty heading into the 2012 election is also evident in the 18 percent of voters who, at this point, do not have a preference for Obama versus the Republican. Obama’s re-election prospects did not look much better last month, despite the fact that his approval rating rose above 50 percent. In May, 43 percent of registered voters said they were more likely to vote for Obama while 40 percent opted for the unnamed Republican. blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2011/06/obama-loses-to-generic-republican-in-poll.html#tp

Lunatic, this board is expected to be pg-13 by our hosts. whether or not every 13 yr old engages in what you just said is irrelevant. it doesn't belong here.

This might be a key element in this early polling and if the economy is still an issue in 2012, the undecided could go republican instead of for Obama..

Yeah... but every time they put an acutal Republican name in against him... the pub loses (except sometimes Romney... to bad pubs won't let him get the nomination...)

and then there are those of us, like myself, who will answer any poll with "Palin" or some such other asinine option - just to screw with the polls. I wouldn't put much stock in a poll that's 18 months out. we haven't even hit the Ohio Caucus, FFS!

Don't forget that Obama remains vulnerable on the economy, gas prices, unemployment, Libya, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Israel..

Maybe the Republicans could counter that by showing an aborted fetus that the Democrats are responsable for.
(I just love to answer made up carp about Republicans with true stuff about Democrats).

Abortion is moot, agreed upon, just a divisive, emotional issue Pubs dredge up at election time for the misled .

(I just love to answer made up carp about Republicans with true stuff about Democrats). Sure, go ahead. It not like it hasn't been tried before. Failed then, will fail now. But gutting Medicare? Heh heh heh By the way, red states have much higher rate of abortions. Why is that?

Obama has his work cut out for him to ensure he gets the youth, the military, the hispanic, the african americans, and the seniors....and if the economy is still a major issue in 2012, then he could be very vulnerable....IMHO
And you don't have to be a poltical expert to know this basic poliical concern for Obama and the White House...

DNC Chair, Debbie Wasserman Schulz: "We own the economy" hotair.com/archives/2011/06/15/wasserman-schultz-strikes-again-we-own-the-economy-she-says/CNN senior White House correspondent Ed Henry and Debbie Wasserman-Schultz had this exchange about the economy: HENRY: My question is, at what point does your party own the economy? Is it three years after the president took office, four years, five to ten years, ten to 15 years? At what point do you take ownership? SCHULTZ: Oh, I mean I think we clearly are responsible for the -- I'm gonna take ownership right now. She’s not backing down. Let the Republican National Committee poke all the fun it wants, Democratic National Committee chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz stands by what she said: The nation is in an economic turnaround and Democrats deserve the credit. “We own the economy. We own the beginning of the turnaround and we want to make sure that we continue that pace of recovery, not go back to the policies of the past under the Bush administration that put us in the ditch in the first place,” Wasserman Schultz told Mike Allen at a breakfast hosted by POLITICO’s Playbook. The economy, she said, “has turned around” since President Obama took office, with steady job growth evident even if the pace leaves something to be desired.
