Did I read it right, that California sent a delegation to Texas to discuss job creation? Somebody pinch me. Did I read that right?
As for creating minimum wage jobs versus no jobs at all , , , sounds a lot like college kids who think anything less than a position in high management with all the perks is below their own esteem.
Sorry 'bout tat, but unless and until the United States as a whole, and especially those who have a handle on economic policies, realize the last 50 years, and particularly the 20 leading up to 2007, were all financed by mounting debt, there will be no real effort to build a lasting recovery.
There are people in America, right now, who were once well off, but their stations were based massive debt, and they are now jobless, homeless and seemingly feel hopeless. They are being joined by more every day.
Is there an answer? Certainly there is, but I am not the one who has to provide it. I can only restate the obvious: there comes a time when you just can't take on any more mouths to feed, and all you can do is offer an axe and point to the woodpile. So if my recommendation carries any weight, instead of just issuing checks to people I'd start offering axes, or gunny sacks, or whatever tools are used in all the jobs that governments at all levels ordinarily contract out.
That's what Roosevelt did. People will criticize a lot of his programs, but that is one program that didn't cost anything, but it did return billions in infrastructure improvements.
Compare that with today. Who, what, when and where is there a place in the United States that requires any effort whatsoever for the checks it sends out to the "less fortunate"? I'd say make them fortunate. Give them something to do for their keep.
I'll even go a bit further and predict that the number of "less fortunate" people plummets, and does so out of some mysterious sudden urge to find meaningful work. I'll bet that l;adder to the top suddenly gets overloaded with ambitious people who suddenly find working below their station is not so bad after all, , , , so long as there is a light at the top of the ladder.

After WWII when the US was the last man standing, and we alone were virtually the entire world's manufacturing base- we could create, and demand high wages, benefits, and all kinds of things (as workers). The US, and US workers now have to compete with the rest of the world, and there are new developing economies coming on line every year.
We tried to sustain the dream with debt, but that, like the status as the industrial powerhouse of the world-- is over now.
Wages, like housing prices will correct.

What I concern myself with is my business, m'kay?
Is there something false about that statement?
No, I restate it because it's ignored. I do that once in a while to prove a point.
Why? If you have a point, then make it yourself. I'm not doing your homework for you.
Nah, if you're not interested in doing a search yourself, you're not interested enough to debate.
That's vague. Get back to me how Perry slashed funding for wildfires then whined about the Federal Government not doing enough. That's specific.
What point of mine are you countering, exactly? Or better yet, explain to me how it's fair that Texas lowers their taxes, and during one of their fiscal boons, begs the Federal government for more money?
Do you have an argument or not?
And I guess there aren't any takers. And I love how since people can't disprove what I say, they try to give me homework assignments. You know, so I can do all that legwork, and they'll either ignore that too or nitpick something stupid that's not even on topic.
And by lowering taxes, services like wildfire funding are cut. So in essence, you like Texas because it demands that the Federal Government pick up the tab. Unless Alaska does it too, this makes Texas the biggest Welfare Queen there is.
This is a bulletin board. Debate by bringing up a point.

I tried to post it but it didn't post right. It said from 2001 to 2010 Texas created 550,000 jobs, 330,000 or so were minimum wage jobs, not sure what the rest were, better I'm guessing. But minimum wage?? That's nothing to brag about. Some Texans here would be happy to get a minimum wage job. Beats moving mulch.
