And republicans weren't when they scared the crap out of seniors when Obama proposed cutting the most fraud and waste filled part of medicare,Advantage, and providing the benefits under regular medicare? Think back it really was not that long ago. Medicare advantage plans actually were better coverage than just having Medicare alone, and were/are viable options for those who can't afford a Medicare Supplement (which are better, but much more expensive).

Advantage is ripe with fraud and waste. It is a costly subsidy paid by taxpayers to insurance companies. When Obama proposed cutting it andproviding treatment under the regular system, republicans suddenly became medicare champions, telling seniors that Obama was taking away all their benefits.

Don't tell me you don't recall all the rhetoric about cutting Advantage. Or how about Trig having to plead for his life in front of death panels? And this should simply highlight how dangerous feel good social programs are. Once the peasants taste the scraps from the kings table, they'll grab their torches / pitchforks and storm the castle if they scraps quit coming. The costly social programs won't ever end....

It is all in the perception. Don't think of them as death panels, think of them as Resource Maximizing Committees.
It doesn't make any sense at all to waste money on infants which will most likely die. Abort the suckers and be done with them. Same with these multiple births ... get in there and thin the herd so the remaining 1 or 2 have increased odds of surviving. It makes absolutely no sense to spend millions on an infant when those same millions could ensure/promote the survival of 100s of normal children. Run the tests during pregnancy and discard the defective ones.

Look up the term utilization management. That is what the insurance industry calls it. It is all partisan hype. Neither your insurance policy or the government dictates what treatments you can get, only the ones they will pay for.

Try thinking of them as what they are, adding an end of life counsellor to the patient, family, and doctors...

Killing an imperfect kid before he/she is born is end of life counseling? I've heard it all now.

No, that's what Palin and the lying Pub fear mongerers call a death panel...

The invested cost of the unborn is quite low and that is the time to cull out the defective ones.

I will be watching this event with great interest over the coming couple of years to see how it works out. It will be a great experiment to follow as the number of people involved are enough to make a difference with costs. Agreed. And if one doesn't like it, they can possibly leave for another state. Let people vote with their feet and indeed it will be interesting to see who enters Vermont and who leaves over the next decade.

Sorry, ugo, but many of us BELIEVE the "Trig begging for his life thing." When you read up on these eugenics people, scary as shit, by the way, and see them in power now-- yes, I can see a time when babies like Trig will be found before birth and eliminated. Just as I can see a time when people are sterilized without their consent. If you have read up on some of the people Obama hangs out with you would see this. All I can think is that people either agree, do not care, do not believe it, or do not know. There are far more people who agree than us normal people would ever want to believe.

And Social Security is just an old age insurance program. Those of us who have 10 minutes of experience with liberals know that if we give them an inch, they'll take a light year.
