With 66% of precincts reporting, Hochul leads by 48% to Corwin 43%. So, the Democrat is ahead by 5 points.

Eventually people are going to realize that the government isn't the answer to fixing everything in your life.

Eventually people are going to realize that the government isn't the answer to fixing everything in your life. Yeah, but sadly "eventually" is usually after people have voted themselves into an iron-fisted tyranny.

You can bet the Republican leadership (I use that term loosely) is in a big huddle tonight. So much for Paul Ryan's presidential aspirations...

Iron-fisted tyranny sounds so poetic and sensual. In fact, it sounds downright Republican.

I said it months ago, Paul Ryan has written his first and last budget. The pubs have a real problem on their hands if they think they are going to ride that pony into the 2012 election.

It's the same old evil Republican game: Starve the Beast. "Starving the beast" is a fiscal-political strategy of some American conservatives to create or increase existing budget deficits via tax cuts to force future reductions in the size of government. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starve_the_beast

Actually, Obama's failure to deal with the budget deficit is the real problem for Democrats. This is further evidence that the only plan the Democrats have is to keep right on spending and fear mongering about anything that comes remotely close to fiscal sanity. I'm gonna put my money on that strategy not working much longer.

"Starving the beast" is a fiscal-political strategy of some American conservatives to create or increase existing budget deficits via tax cuts to force future reductions in the size of government. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starve_the_beastIt was originally the conservative strategy in Europe. It didn't work there, and it's not going to work here. Republicans need to make the case for liberty. They need to get away from this idea of making the fiscally unsustainable sustainable and just tell the truth. We're going to have to choose between freedom, and economic collapse very likely followed by revolution and tyranny. Our founders were obsessed with the rise and fall of the Roman Empire for good reason. We're making all the same mistakes. We've got rising debt and social programs that discourage work and encourage sloth, we're mired in wars all over the world we can't afford to fight, businesses are leaving for greener pastures, and government consumes a greater and greater share of GDP.

Fox News is losing viewers because the novelty has worn off. It's really no more difficult to understand than that.

It all sounds sooo logical when you put it that way - minus the facts and reality behind it.

Her vote was to recast Medicare, not to kill the program.
Corwin was the early favorite but has seen her lead shrink after expressing support for a proposal to recast the government's health plan for seniors as a voucher program
A voucher program will provide the same level of service but you, the consumer will have choice and control.
We only have two choice to deal with a bankrupt govt social program that has 10s of trillions in unfunded liabilities. We either cut it, or it completely gets eliminated.

I'd like to see it phased out, but then again I sometime think: This is America. We'll deal with it just fine when the programs collapse. There's a part of me that wants the whole government apparatus gone NOW, and so maybe I should start voting Democrat? Just say f- the whole thing. The sooner we get out of the way and let Democrats bankrupt entitlements, the sooner we won't have entitlements to worry about.
