I think it is great to get larger size clothes for babies, especially if they are already getting a ton of gifts.

I love getting bigger clothes! My babies grow quickly so it's always nice to have clothes on hand when they start outgrowing things. I do prefer stuff they can wear any time of year to holiday clothes because there is a large chance they will fit off season.

I got all kinds of sizes of baby clothes as gifts. I just sorted them by size in their closet. It was so nice to have a start on the next sizes.

I never give newborn sizes as gifts. I give clothes that can be worn later.

MPL if you're willing, I think you might benefit from asking Ex2 to tell you exactly what he told Carrot. Because I'm sure he minimized everything (which is understandable given Carrot's age). But whether Carrot does or doesn't continue with Scouting, you're eventually going to need to know what Ex 2 said, and complement/explain things as Carrot gets older. I have a question for you Ladies. I gave a gift for a newborn today. I ended up buying it online because it was easier than buying it in a store and shipping it. I found out that my family's favorite brand of kids' clothes exists in the UK now (the gift was for someone in the UK). The baby is a week old. So I ordered (IMO) very cute size 18 months pjs, for NEXT winter. Both DH and DS3 looked at me like I was insane. I remember when I had my kids, my much-older sister told me, EVERYONE will buy you really small sizes, 1 mo/3 mo/6 mo. You'll have too many of those small sizes, so you should either get 12 months for the next season if it's available, or 18 months for the following (same) season. I've ALWAYS done that, and it's always been appreciated! So DH's and DS3's reaction surprised me. Am I wrong to think that new moms would appreciate getting clothing in a bigger size? I bought 18 months, not 4 years LOL.
Any input would be appreciated. I've ALWAYS done this with clothing (obviously not with more expensive items like a bed/stroller/etc that are generally bought by close family).
Your DH and DS can, as we say in our house, blow it out their fartfaces. Totally appropriate and appreciated.

I would have been good with the 18 month size if I had a newborn. Yeah, with kid #1, we got a variety of sizes as gifts. It was helpful.
With kid #2, I don't remember getting a ton of clothes, not like #1. And he was the big kid who grew fast.

Poor Abby. She had explosive vomiting and poo all over DH's car this morning. She is home from school. I won't be taking her to dance and canceled her play date. We'll find out if it's contagious. She's been sleeping with me since their bedroom is still all torn apart.

I liked getting larger sizes too.
My kids were huge. They were born wearing 3-6 month clothes, and quickly went to 6-9 months.
The bigger sized clothes were a godsend.

If she'd done that in my car that would be it we'd be selling it cause between her and then my response to the sight/smell would cause irreparable damage.

Poor Abby. Whatever it is she has hasn't ran it's course. Still uncontrollable and unpredictable but less frequent and not as much.
Going to mom's tomorrow. I don't want her to suffer an accident at school.

She doesn't have it coming out both ends no more but it's still unpredictable.
Kid is so mortified every time. I can't make her go to school like that. She's not doomed if she misses a few days of kindergarten.
::knocks on wood:: So far DH and I aren't sick.

When I bought my car in April, I went with GM financing to get some rebates, but the interest rate was atrocious - 7.1%. Yesterday I completed the refi to 3.62%. Woohoo.

Ugh. Abby got sent home from school and they want her out tomorrow too. That makes four days of missed school. Apparently she was "going to the bathroom a lot". I am assuming she told them she had to "go poopy" and that's what triggered the call home. She hasn't really pooped since yesterday afternoon and my mom said she's been fine so far today.
Whatever. I keep telling myself I have the new Trials of Apollo book downloading onto my NOOK as we speak so I got that to look forward to. This day has freaking sucked.

First of all pants, I am sorry for your loss. If you are not taking your kids b/c you don't want to subject them to the long car ride that is one thing, but if you are afraid of taking them to a funeral, idk - my in-laws were my babysitters, and they apparently dragged my kids to a good number of funerals. DD does not seem to have any adverse effects or bad feelings, but then again that side of the family is Hispanic and Hispanics have a day to Celebrate their loved ones they have lost:
Dia de los Muertos is a celebration of deceased loved ones. It is believed that the gates of heaven are opened every year late on Oct. 31, and the spirits of deceased children are allowed to reunite with their families for 24 hours. Nov. 2 is when the spirits of deceased adults join their families.
When DD took an elective Culture? course in College we visited the National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago - they have a fascinating display on Dia De Los Muertos.

My brother never took a decent school picture. She was so excited when he got his senior portraits done, she said she'd been waiting 18 years for a good picture.

It was TCU's aunt who passed on, not anyone on my end - sorry if that exchange was confusing! I don't think kids get scarred by funerals. (Generally, unless something really unorthodox happens or you're dealing with preexisting mental health issues/phobias/etc.) I think, for the most part, observing and participating in rituals of grief is helpful for children as they grow and learn how to deal with the concept of mortality and just functioning in society. On multiple levels, rituals of grief are critical cultural, religious, anthropological and psychological touchstones. My recommendation not to take the kids was more because I think the logistics of a 12-hour drive each way with 2 kids and managing them at a funeral while also trying to support her grieving mother was a very high investment of time and energy with almost no chance of reward. I'll have to check out the museum, we have so many in Chicago I didn't even know we had a National Museum of Mexican Art!
