If it were winter now I'm sure my brother and his friend would make me put new tires on. The battery had to come out to get to the spark plugs and my brother's friend said I needed a new one before winter. I'll do it the last thing I want to do is get stranded somewhere up here or in the deserted stretches on the road between here and back home in WV.
And yes, I know its a double standard. What the guys will drive and have on their vehicles is not the same as what's acceptable for their daughters, wives, female friends. Just seems like 30kish wasn't a lot to get out of OEM tires. Oh well this last set has lasted longer.

Let me ask you this. Would you rather your mechanic not tell you when your brakes are worn. He is doing you a favor by bringing to your attention. He has no idea how you drive your car unless you are a regular. IHe inspected your car, saw your brakes were worn and informed you. Now you have the choice of getting them replaced or declined. I as a mechanic and held responsible to bring conditions like this to your attention. I am held liable, If you decline, and I have paper work to prove that it was found on an inspection I have done my job.
Rick....would you tell a customer that they needed brake pads and rotors ASAP with 30+% of their brake pads remaining?
BTW.....my regular mechanic showed me the brake pads (and the 'severe oxidation'). The dealer did not. My gut feeling was that he never even took off the wheel.

Im not saying this shop did right, but whenever this subject comes up now all shops are out the screw the customer.
No one said all shops are out to screw the customer. My points were that:
1. If you are a woman, it's more likely for this to happen. But now I've seen that if you're a man that is considered 'white collar' they'll do it for them too.
2. It's best that you go to a trusted mechanic that you've established a relationship with. However, in my case I could not since this was a recall notice.
The one thing that that dumbass move did was make sure that I will NEVER take my car back there. Corporate Subaru will also be getting a letter as to this dealer's tactics. I was informed that I'll likely get a survey in the mail and I'll answer accordingly.
