Making honeymoon plans, and just curious where others have gone, how much you spent, and how long you were there.

We spent a week at one of the Sandals' resorts on St. Lucia. I think we were around $3k for the week, if I remember correctly. We had a wonderful time. I loved it there.

We stayed at The Awhanee Hotel in Yosemite National Park (which is where my wonderful DH proposed.) We stayed there 5 days, then snuck home early to pack (we were moving into our first home a few days later!) I'm not sure of the cost ~ but we drove there as it's about 2 hours from home.

Just about 3 weeks overseas.
2 weeks in Italy - Rome, Florence and Venice
5 days in London.
The London portion of our honeymoon was an add on as I was interviewing for a position within my company. The company paid for the 5 days in London, so that was pretty nice.
Our portion of the honeymoon - 2 weeks in Italy was $8k all in.

You don't want ours (weekend at a nearby theme park, cheap hotel, 24-pack) but thanks for posting this topic... DH and I have been tossing around ideas for a "real" honeymoon on our anniversary (October), these responses are very helpful!

No honeymoon here. The option was a down payment on a house or a honeymoon. Bride to be opted for the house.

We just booked ours for this July after our weddding! ;D 7 night cruise to Bermuda, balcony room, about $2700 total for both of us. We'll probably do some additional stuff (I really want to snorkel or scuba dive) but we're gonna try not to go overboard with extras. ETA: when are you getting married, congrats!

We only had a three day weekend (married on Saturday, fun on Sunday, drove home Monday, back to school/work on Tuesday), so we went to the Renaissance festival. Including the inns, gas, admission, food, and some small souvenirs, my best guess is $400-$500.

We were poor starving students and weren't even going to take a honeymoon, but the in-laws sent us to Vegas for three days. They paid for the airline tickets, the hotel, and a couple of shows. It was really thoughtful of them.
For our five year anniversary we went to Sandals in Montego Bay, Jamaica. For the flight and a one week stay it was $3K.

We spent $4000 and had a week in England. We stayed the longest in Bath, which was much cheaper than London, so that helped.

Mid-70s.... Block Island, Rhode Island, couple of days...spent a few hundred... we were 22 and essentially broke for the most part. We paid for the wedding reception ourselves as well as the honeymoon.

We did not go on a honeymoon since: August 23, 2008 - we got married August 24, 2008 - I was in the wedding party of my cousin August 25, 2008 - First day of grad school for my wife.
So this summer (3 year anniversary) we are thinking about going on a actual honeymoon, looking to spend between 2-3K.

We road tripped through Amish country in OH and PA (can't have a honeymoon without stopping in Intercourse!) the Finger Lakes region, up to Gananoque/Thousand Islands region, and wound it up with a few days in Toronto. Can't imagine the total cost was over $1k; probably more like $500 (we stayed with family in OH and friends in Toronto).

June of '76. Didn't have a lot of money. My grandparents had a house (cabin, sort of) in the country that they had built for family to stay at when they visited in Wisconsin. So we spent our honeymoon there.
I don't know what plants were in bloom, but whatever they were, my DH was extremely allergic to their pollen! He could barely see out his teary, swollen eyes to drive to the nearby town to get some allergy medicine.

We went to the Oregon coast, stayed in Newport and walked around the old Newport Bay area for a day, went to Depoe Bay and some other coastal towns. We stayed at cheap hotels (maybe a little TOO cheap, one hotel I remember was clean but just horribly shabby with green shag carpeting and burnt orange counters in the bathroom--this was in '97). I think we spent about 5 days out and around and just over a tank of gas (that old car got incredible gas mileage as that includes the couple hundred mile drive to the coast). Total cost was less than $500 but we had fun.

Ah, great memories. DH and I were older and had 2 houses between us and decent savings. We also put a priority on travel. We're Russian history enthusiasts, so we went to St. Petersburg (no, not the one in FL). It got a little expensive between having to book 2 separate flight itineraries because no one airline alliance could get us there, wanting a European-style hotel instead of the old Intourist places, and getting private guides for a few of the days. The guides were a wonderful splurge- we could ask them all the questions we wanted (and tell them a few things they didn't know). All in, it was $7,000 in 2003, and well worth it.

11 nights in Hawaii for under $2500. Yeah, I'm the queen of frugal. LOL Airfare for 2, one hotel night on Waikiki and on week car rental - free (used frequent flyer miles) Inter-island flight to Kauai for 2 - $300 7 nights stay in timeshare condo - $800 using parents interval points. 3 nights at Bellows AFB cabins on the ocean. $240 I have family on three of the islands, so they took us around and fed us occasionally. Sat through a timeshare presentation to get a free dinner cruise and paid a $150 or so for a luau, but for the most part just hiked and hung out on the beach. Come to think of it we probably stayed under 2K. The second day we were there I found out I was pregnant, so the drinking bill wasn't as bad as it could have been!

Man, I would love for us to go to Hawaii. DH went with his family a few years ago before we were married. He's probably the only person in the world to say that Hawaii is stupid.

I tried my hardest to talk my wife out of going to hawaii for our honeymoon. It is such a long flight, I suggested we go to the Caribbean, but I could not shake her. I am happy we went, though.

We spent 2 weeks in Italy visiting Venice, Florence, Pisa, Rome, Naples, Pompeii and Amalfi coast. The cost, I am guessing maybe around $6K but we cashed in our CC points to stay at the Westin, Marriott and Hilton. It'd have been a lot more if we had to pay for the hotels. The money we spent was on food and excursions/tours,entrance fees and souvenirs. It was one of the best trips of my life. Absolutely love the food. I'd vote for Italy.

I had horrendous allergies the ENTIRE time I was in Hawaii... I don't have them much at home, go figure\ Plus I thought the water was cold

We did a camping road trip through OR down to CA redwoods and back up Hwy 101. Took about a week I think - maybe longer. Pretty cheap and we had a fabulous time!

Archie, I wanted to go to the Caribbean and stay at an all-inclusive resort, but we took our honeymoon in January which happens to be the peak season for the Caribbean. We couldn't find anything decent for less than $7-8k and that was just too much money.

DH went with his family a few years ago before we were married. He's probably the only person in the world to say that Hawaii is stupid. I could picture DH and me saying that. Yes, the natural beauty looks to be breathtaking, but we don't like massive crowds, expensive organized excursions, and steep prices for "normal" food and services. I don't like Disney World for the same reason. DH hasn't been there but I'm sure he'd agree.
