We are safe! Two tornados touched down and could be seen from town but skirted north of us. A few friends send me pics and it made me nervous to see people outside filming the tornado. Thanks for the good thoughts!

This weeks soap opera - As the water doesn't flow. Sorry it is so long, but this week has been unreal. Add me to the list of people who are mostly decluttering money. This week has been a doozy. A week ago Wednesday the irrigation guy came and dug a large hole in my backyard and then disappeared until this past Wednesday. He put in all new valves, some new irrigation vaults etc, basically redid all the parts that control the system. The estimate was for several thousand dollars. When he gets done there is no pressure, the sprinkler heads are just sending out this week stream of water. The water pressure in my house has also gone down. Irrigation guy calls well guy, well guy comes out to the house and they debate, point fingers etc but come to the conclusion that a filter was installed in the wrong place in the pump house and it was clogged with sand. They also keep saying the well can't keep up with the demand. I keep asking why when it was fine for the past two summers, plus the house is still having pressure issues. They get ready to leave and irrigation guy said he would be back the next day. Thursday no one shows up, typical for the irrigation guy. Friday the well guy comes out in the morning and does a bunch of tests, replaces the filter with a proper type of filter, in the proper size and puts it in the proper place in the system. The house has almost no water pressure. He is blaming the irrigation guy because the well stuff checks out. He finishes up his work and call the irrigation guy on the way out the door and apparently told him off. The irrigation guy showed up faster than he ever has and does a bunch more work. He does a bunch of pressure tests and points the finger back at the well guy. I pay him and he leaves. Well guy shows up for the second time, by this time I don't have enough water pressure to be able to flush the toilet at the end of the house. There is also a lot of sand in the system because of the water being turned on and off so many times. Well guy thinks the well is old and all along he has been pushing for me to trench my backyard and tie the irrigation into the pasture well. Both the well guy and irrigation guy are saying a plumber needs to be called for the house, they each have their own little areas and stuff inside the house isn't it. I already have a plumber scheduled for Tuesday because all the air in the lines recently again from turning the water on and off one of the toilets is having issues shutting off. I have wanted to replace that toilet since the day I moved in so I'm getting two new toilets Tuesday. Tonight I found a well report from the well was drilled in 1994 and at that time it was producing 25 gal per minute, right now it is producing about 4 gal per minute. I scanned it and faxed it to the well company. The irrigation guy has been paid, haven't received the statement yet from the well guy and Tuesday will bring the plumber statement that includes the cost of two new toilets. I'm tired and have a headache.

The hardest part is getting started haapai . So well done! We have clothing/shoe/electronic recycling bins where you don't have to worry about the "quality" of the items you get rid of. Sharon I'm sorry you're dealing with this! I hope it gets sorted quickly. Glad you're safe startsmart ! I had the mole removed yesterday and then took a nap. Today I'm catching up on laundry. DS2+GF are coming over later, and next week will be crazy at work.

The sooner you file the tax return, the better off you are, even if you can't pay the taxes. And you might have a refund. You want to get the statute of limitations started. what is the statute of limitations for taxes? Is that for when they are auditable? The statute of limitations is generally 3 years from the date of filing. Yes, it for how long they can be audited and tax assessed. It doesn't start until April 15 of the year the tax return is due, so filing in February doesn't start the statute until April 15. If you didn't report all of your income, there is a 6 year statute and there is no statute of limitations for fraud. I know you didn't do that.

I fixed the formatting on my previous novel. I got an error when posting and then it wouldn't let me edit last night. I slept 12 hours last night and feel much better today.

I know you didn't do that. thanks for the info, no I'm not too worried about those angles, but I do feel better if the EA files it these days as it is complicated. I'll contact him in May, and then if he does do my return this year, I'll find out when I need to get him the info to get it done on time. I stopped being worried about him when one of the yelp reviews mentioned taking to him on the phone 4/15, but I still never even got notice if he filed an extension - which he has done in previous years, sent out a generic notice like that for all the taxes he didn't file on time. I did file my own extension, but the situation is a bit off. But I'll wait till May and having my money, and if I owe, it is just a few weeks of interest. If he still isn't on board with doing it, I'll either need to find someone else or do it with paper. I don't think the turbo tax is good if things are complicated. There were things missed that i knew from my 2022 return, but I couldn't figure out how to do it in tt. So I will do my own on paper if it comes to that.

Yesterday I got rid of or moved 51 things. I'm pretty sure that two thirds of them were pitched. On other days this week I was pitching 80-90%, but let's just call this baby steps in the right direction.
Today I pitched a hundred things before I stopped counting. It was mostly mail, mostly very old mail, but I wasn't counting every page and the envelope separately. This means that I won't have to make 80-90 decisions in the future.
Today's setback was finding a box under the futon and hoping that it was not filled with paper. It was. On the other hand, I had cleared enough space that I could actually sort through it. I found part of the mortgage paperwork that I will need to discontinue the USDA mortgage insurance on a home loan that I took out before USDA mortgage insurance became permanent until you refinanced the bugger. Two weeks ago, I searched for the mortgage paperwork and just couldn't find any of it. So this is progress.
I think that I am beginning to understand why I started with going through boxes of paper. It's a slow way to make room and making room to work means getting more work done. I think that I am going through the paper first because it is the only place that I can find easily chuck-able stuff. I've been making the easy decisions regarding my clothing and kitchen stuff for quite a while, so this is the only place where I can make easy decisions, even if they don't clear up a lot of space. Today's victory was finding that I had created enough space to empty a small drawer of stuff onto a counter and sort through it. It was all stuff that had been dumped into that drawer to keep it from the dog. I pitched or put three quarters of it with its buddies. This means that in the future when I find a pen (or nicotine patch, or bit of jewelry, or a package of needles that belong in my sewing kit) I'll have a place to put it where the dog can't get to it. I didn't have that space a week ago and having it really helps me get things done.
To anyone who has had or ever will have the disturbing task of going through someone else's home after they have died or moved into a place where they will get the care that they need, I just don't know what to say. What works for someone who is desperately trying to sort through their own junk is very different than what someone coming to clean up has to deal with. The standard advice when cleaning out someone else's home is to rent a dumpster, make as much room to work/sort as possible, pitch as much as possible as soon as possible, and to pack every bit of paper into boxes to be sorted through later. I'm pretty much doing the exact opposite of that.

Very little was accomplished today. The bed got changed, the litter box cleaned and 3 loads of laundry and that's about it. I also did sell the sway bar stuff from my trailer so that is a win.

Did 3 loads of laundry and changed my sheets today but another round of severe storms has taken most of my afternoon. I’m currently in the storm closet with my laptop and some sewing waiting for the storm to pass.

Sounds like your well could be sanding in. In Houston we had a very old well and we noticed it was pumping more and getting more sand in the water. I had another drilled about $7,000 and we had a submersible pump put in it. The other had to have the air bled off at times. So we were going to just use it for watering the garden and things and the new one for the house. There the water table had dropped a lot we were near the Woodlands and they were sucking water out of the acquifer like crazy. We had to go for lower water, the other tasted wonderful this stuff did not. I think this is happening all over. Not saying that is your problem but if you start getting sand, could be sucking it in instead of water, or if you have an old style pump could be the foot valve needs to be replaced and they have to pull the pipe to do that.
So many different issues can happen with wells. I really hope we find a place with city water, I really don't want to have to deal with that in our old age.

I decluttered nothing today. I did laundry, cooked, and kicked back for a bit. Then I went to the grocery and did dinner, that is it. I was tired from yesterday and I really need to go to bed early tonight.
I need to check the weather, its 73 outside but 75 in here, need to see if we need the AC, the heat, or nothing, I have a door open right now.
Hopefully tomorrow I can get back down to the basement and pull more stuff out. I did good last week, when hubs is home and added laundry plus cooking really slows me down.

DS2 and DH dismantled DS1's bed base from the upstairs guest room and took it to the basement near the rest of DS1's Stuff. Very happy that's done! The new base arrives on Tuesday. We'll replace the mattress later, after DS1 takes it.

I’m currently in the storm closet with my laptop and some sewing waiting for the storm to pass. Made it through 8” of rain, an all night thunderstorm and 5 tornado warnings last night. I fell asleep in the closet with a puppy perched on my shoulder and now I’m paying for it because everything is sore.

I did not sleep well last night because I'd had too much caffeine, wine, and good food from 4pm - 9pm. I did manage to deep clean the fridge this morning. There wasn't too much that needed to be tossed,so that's good. I also mopped the laundry room; Bill the Dog is getting more incontinent every day. BTD is 15.5 years old, so we try not to get too upset with him. I've tossed or added to the donate bin another five articles of clothing. I have others in mind to add to those destinations. However, at last night's benefit dinner, we purchased two huge baskets of gardening supplies. Almost everything in here is something we can use, but it is still a lot of stuff.
This coming week, I need to finish a project in our family room. It's also time to start the May deep cleaning cycle.
The other fun house chore I need to attempt is power washing. We have a lot of cement pathways, and they've not been in cleaned in years. We just bought a power washer, so we'll see how that goes.

I got a late start today and didn't keep count of what I have pitched. The box that I am concentrating is mixed mail and other stuff, so I'm retaining a higher percentage than I'd like. The indoor recycling bin is visibly bulging as I clamp down the lid. The curbside bin is nearly full. Pickup is not scheduled for another week. I can probably get this box of stuff sorted through and the castoffs binned if I do a bit of shaking and compressing but this is probably a sign to move onto clothes and other types of clutter.
My sweetie has caught the de-cluttering bug too. He tackled a bedroom closet of old clothes and odd linens. It's empty now but the dog is a bit traumatized. She has a bit of separation anxiety and what we were doing very much resembled what we do when one of us is going on a trip. So she planted herself very firmly on the pile of "keepers". I don't think that she was trying to protect it from being thrown away. I think that she just wanted to be one of the things that was kept. She's off the pile now but extra clingy.
We found a baby blanket on that shelf. We don't know where it came from. We don't have kids and I'm too old to. Neither of us recognized it as their own baby blanket or knew when or how it had entered the house. It's old and plain and worn but for some darned reason it is getting washed and sent to Goodwill. Neither of us has what it takes to simply throw out a baby blanket that would have been good enough for our parents to use for us. Goodwill will get a cash donation if I'm the one doing that drop-off.

Sharon that sounds like an absolute nightmare. Nothing is more frustrating than a bunch of "professionals" who do not take accountability or want to place blame instead of helping you. I hope the plumber can give you more answers. I have no experience with wells or irrigation systems, but I hope someone finally solves your dilemma.

Hi Ladies! Still dealing with wedding prep, but we'll be done in June & then I can get back to decluttering with you. I just saw the most inspiring video. A grandpa left his farm to the grandkids, and told them the farm is a reflection on them. Unfortunately, grandpa had a LOT of junk farm equipment, and old outbuildings on the property that weren't fit to use. Not to mention, a number of dead & dying trees. Also, the farmhouse itself needed a lot of work, like new siding, and the porch needed to be redone. Those young adults did it all. They did videos of themselves doing various tasks, and they ended up getting rid of a million pounds of trash (think old farm equipment & outbuildings). It was very inspirational, but they really had to put their backs into it to get it all done. If they can do a big property like that, maybe I can eventually get my house the way I'd like it to be.

I woke up before 6 for some reason so I Shitepiled... at 6 am. The new bed frame arrives tomorrow. DH will be here, I have to go to school to pick up my final exams. There was too much cheating online so the school went back to pen and paper. That means having to go in to pick them up, and then again to drop them off. Wed is a holiday here. I hope to finish marking the exams on Wed because I'm working all day Thurs and Fri.

Hallelujah! Yay! Mine is not! Says they do the 1 week retrospective, but I think only after you sign up do they keep it. Very disturbed! Even if comes tomorrow, mail is usually late, like 5 pm, and unsure if that will work for mortgage on the 1st. Going to need to set up a contingency. My spidey sense has been telling me for 2 weeks this was going to happen. I kept hoping not! Wish I knew about informed delivery, at least I would know if it was lost or not. If not here by frist will have to contact the client to see if they sent or not.

It was very inspirational, but they really had to put their backs into it to get it all done. If they can do a big property like that, maybe I can eventually get my house the way I'd like it to be. This is wonderful. Would you PM a link to the video please? A cousin who died a year ago was driving through the small town where mom grew up. He saw his dad's first tractor sitting in a yard rotting. Asked them how much they wanted for it. Just take it he was told. He lovingly restored it. His oldest daughter has it. She said that tractor is not going anywhere. Thankfully, her nephew is also in to antique tractors so it will go to him.

I checked my USPS Informed Delivery email for today and IT'S COMING TODAY! Hallelujah! Informed delivery doesn't always show everything. Today it says I am receiving a piece of mail that was not legible after being scanned. Some times I receive the item a day late. There have been times when a package never shows up in Informed Delivery
