Count me in as one who thinks this is more likely to be a hoax than anything. I also was thinking he would recover quickly and then tell the nation, see - I told you i was nothing! He has bent all kinds of agencies like CDC and Professionals to his will. I am not sure I would believe anyone. If they present false test results to someone like Fauci, who would know it was a hoax?

My HS/college and beyond friend died of the virus yesterday. Went on the ventilator Aug. 10th after a week in the hospital. Put into a coma. 5 weeks on the ventilator. No food and lost 55 lbs.. Came off the ventilator and did 10 days in the COVID ICU, then transferred to regular ICU. Was able to call a mutual friend early last week and thought he would be getting out this week. Tuesday he was back on the ventilator. 4:30am Thursday and it was over. RIP Sada.

I am so sorry, dondub. We've got a family member on DH's side of the family who is currently in the hospital with COVID. The virus is ruthless. I am literally praying that Trump & his team did NOT give the virus to Biden & his people. Although there was distance on the stage during the debate, I am concerned about the lack of masks. That would be a nightmare.

The fact that there is a reasonable discussion as to whether this is a hoax on Trump's part shows how fucked up his handling of the pandemic has been. I don't want the guy to die, but I hope he feels like shit for a bit. I feel like I'm living in some bizarro world. That is because we elected a Reality TV Star, so everything is about ratings for him. So no one puts It beyond him To pull something like that to get the ratings he wants, Change the narrative and gets the news on his side. Fucked up? Yes But this is where we are... we do not trust the President of the United States at all.

It is crazy the amount of people online, Facebook and tiktok that believes this is fake.
How sad but this is our reality!

breaking right now - RNC chair Ronna McDaniel is also positive. linkI would be inclined to think it was fake if it were just him.

Ha ha ha my first thought when I saw the report this morning was Ahh Poetic Justice! Finally Karma is biting him in his ass! He deserves this and I hope he gets very sick from it. He has repeatedly shown he has no empathy, no morals and isn't even a decent human being. I also would not shed a tear if he died. Reap what you sow!

I had been wondering the same things regarding him potentially dying and who would become the GOP nominee.. and the voting issues that would stem from it as well. voting has already started, and the ballots can't be changed.
if he wins, then Pence becomes president, and can choose a replacement VP.
if he loses, Pence becomes the shortest term president since Harrison.

I hope he doesn't pass away and create election chaos, or be totally asymptomatic and push through an immediate reopening of the country regardless of the vulnerable population. I hope he just gets sick enough to take it seriously, and and then quickly recovers. there won't be any election chaos. dead guys have been elected before.

Could this be a false announcement, Trump really doesn't have COVID, thus will "conquer" it easily, and then claim how strong he is and continue to downplay the virus as nothing? Are there any reputable people that are verifying that Trump does indeed have COIVD? yeah - I couldn't help but think the same thing. Trump contracts covid - but surprise! Conquers it in 7 days and back out into the field, proving him 'right' all along... It is way too much poetic justice for him to really get it and feel any true illness and have an epiphany.... Worse, will it be his Hitlerian "Divine Providence" moment?

I read that Pence chooses a replacement VP, but his choice has to be confirmed by both houses of congress. The House would never approve any pick, nor would a Dem-controlled Senate, for the advantage it would give the GOP in a Senate tie-breaker (among other things), especially after the SCOTUS issue. Pence might just end up VP-less, like LBJ for his term after he succeeded JFK. Too much to hypothesize at this time, though.

So effectively, a trump votes automatically converts to a pence vote? There has to be a person or two that might want to change their vote if it came down to that. What then? Has this ever happened before so close to an election? I can't think of any other situations like it.

This will be very interesting to me. I've run across a lot of people that are pretty non-political that have mixed opinions about this virus. Early on, they locked down because they wanted to "flatten the curve", which most people did without issue. Now cases are steady, there is availability in hospitals, and most cases are turning out to be very mild. I've heard SO MANY people say that they really aren't sure what to believe, that they think that the media's outlook on the virus will change after the election.
If Trump recovers within 10 days, he'll probably use his recovery (high risk category) as proof the media is blowing the virus out of proportion. He'll probably also use the opportunity to talk about how effective the treatments are now. This might help with people that aren't political, but can't see themselves living with remote learning, closed businesses, and social distancing for another 12 months.
This also could backfire if Trump displays any lingering symptoms, like having a coughing fit at a debate with Biden.

Fucked up? Yes But this is where we are... we do not trust the President of the United States at all. It's more than just the "reality star" thing... one of trump's main campaign techniques since before the election in 2016 was to throw doubt on the News Media, to throw doubt on what was a fact and what was fiction. This is what has become of America. The news reports that the President of the US has COVID19 and my response is "huh, a hoax, trump's just manipulating the media". I've kind of always took news with a grain of salt - but now... I have to evaluate most information as "is it a Troll, Trolling? Is this something that actually happened? Is this the spin on something that actually happened? Is this the spin with some extra made up stuff thrown in on what actually happened? What DID actually happen?? And how many sources do I need to piece together to determine if any of it is actually based on fact/reality. " Thanks trump! for fucking with me. you are an asshole and if you do have Covid19 I do hope you suffer. A lot. for a very long time before you die. Juxtaposed with for anyone who knows and loves trump and feels bad about his illness/possible death: I am sorry for your pain. It sucks to see a loved one suffer. I'm sorry you love such awful person. I don't hold your love against you. We don't always have much choice over who we have a soft spot for.

I would. He has spent the last 8 months downplaying it as a non issue. If he does not get it bad, he will continue to say it’s a non issue. I’d hate to figure out this contract tracing. The staff around him, and in the White House are now all at risk. Hopefully, he was far enough from Biden when he went on his rampage the other night. So you’re glad he got it and exposed it to potentially many people? You really think he’s going to change his ways now that he had it? If you had it with symptoms you probably wouldn’t feel that way. I am sorry he exposed his handlers, but the fact that 200,000 people died due to a ‘hoax’, the fact that the CDC has desperately been making recommendations that fell on deaf ears, the fact that *most* of us have been dealing with this WITHOUT HIS TESTING AND MEDICAL SUPPORT infuriates me. He has had EVERY advantage that no one else has, flouted them and gotten snagged. Maybe he will see what happens when you get snagged like the other 7 million people in the US. He didn’t give a shit about them, did he?

Considering it was the military doctor and not the crazy doctor that put out the statement, I'm less incline to believe it's a hoax. I wouldn't think he'd be in on it, so they would have had to give the guy false positive tests and such. The military doctor chopped 50 lbs off his weight easily. Really?

My HS/college and beyond friend died of the virus yesterday. Went on the ventilator Aug. 10th after a week in the hospital. Put into a coma. 5 weeks on the ventilator. No food and lost 55 lbs.. Came off the ventilator and did 10 days in the COVID ICU, then transferred to regular ICU. Was able to call a mutual friend early last week and thought he would be getting out this week. Tuesday he was back on the ventilator. 4:30am Thursday and it was over. RIP Sada. condolences, dondub.

I'm leaning more and more to a trump hoax and that he doesn't have it. A miraculous recovery will tell whether it's another of his distractions.
If he really does have it, isn't it simply delightful that he has access to the very best care that taxpayer money can buy?

I also was notified this morning that I lost an Uncle to Covid-19 just last night. I did not mention it earlier b/c I did not think it fit with the subject. he has had dementia/Alzheimer's for quite awhile now. My cousins drove him from FLA to IL in an RV, (they did not think he could handle the trip any other way), then on Sept 19th learned he had COVID-19. He and my Aunt have been married 67 years. They were hospitalized in adjoining hospital rooms (She also had Covid-19. My cousin reports they brought my Aunt home Wednesday night to recover at home, almost sounds like they sent them to the hospital together so they did not have to separate them). One of her DIL's is a very highly skilled nurse. She was a transplant nurse, retired, and now works on call in FL. We also lost the wife of my FIL's cousin to Covid-19 about a month ago. Hopefully it will stay far away from the rest of the family. I hope my Aunt recovers - there was just a picture of her with one of my cousins posted on FB in Late July, and she looked very healthy. I wonder how my uncle was exposed to Covid-19, I am thinking some family member that was visiting him must have brought it to him. So sad. . ETA. Bringing Covid-19 to someone I love is my great fear, and the biggest reason I try to consistently wear a mask. I am now grappling with the fact that we have been invited to Birthday parties in Illinois on Oct 10th and 17th. One is a regular B-day and the other is Celebrating 60 years. If I refuse to go, my DH will go without me, so I might as well go.

A major point to be made with this news is how his over reliance on testing bit him in the ass. He, and many people around him are tested daily, but that was not enough to protect. It emphasizes the need to do what the medical people recommend to protect yourself and others. I find it difficult to have any empathy for him. This is akin to my telling a patient to stop smoking for 15 years, and the they come down with a heart attack, stroke, lung cancer, or copd. Unsurprising and potentially preventable.

Hoping maybe this might make my highly conservative work place think a little more. Their policy was 2 weeks after exposure period. Now it's if you have a negative test you can come back. So if I test positive on Friday my coworkers can come back to work so long as they test negative on Saturday. Trump is tested every freaking day, which I get because they have to protect the chain of command and he STILL got it. So maybe it would be wiser to go back to 2 weeks period and THEN provide a negative test?
