his word was originally that "the people should have a voice". fuck him, and the rest of his enablers, honestly. he's already out there the day her death was announced, talking about how he's going to do exactly the opposite of what he did 4y ago? legit, fuck him. If trump has an ounce of integrity he will decline to put forth a nomination. I really and truly hope you aren't holding your breath for Trump to display even a half ounce of integrity. I don't think there is a half ounce across that entire family. Barron probably skews that average to the positive, being only 14 and having been under the watch of Secret Service for 4y. but yanno, the Obama girls were dealing drugs from the family wing. 🙄

Wow! Nothing like respect for the dead. Imagine what her family must be feeling right now. She's not even cold yet, & he's already publicly proclaiming about her replacement. A$$!

By the way, I donated to the campaign of Mitch McConnell's opponent, Amy McGrath. Maybe, if you really don't like what Mitch is trying to do, now is an excellent time for you to do the same.

And McConnell allowing a vote on a trump nominee but not Obama nominee should be the primary focus in Kentucky reelection.

I hope that everyone realizes that IF a final nomination waits until after the election the right wing evangelicals will show up like a pack of rabid dogs to vote. So forget about what the polls have said until now - this will be a very hard fought election and every vote will count!

I just wrote my senator that in 2016 said he couldn't vote for SC during election year that he has to stand by his conviction or be a hypocrite - and I can't vote for a hypocrite. I neglected to add that he has done other things since I last voted for him which means I won't vote for him regardless of how this shakes out. But he's up for reelection in 2022.

What an amazing individual and jurist. You did your best and utmost, RBG. They can replace a Supreme Court judge, but never replace YOU. Truly a wonder woman one of a kind. If ever anyone deserved wings AND a superhero cape for the trip to Heaven, it's you.

Her family knew this would happen. We all knew this would happen. I doubt her family was surprised and now, suddenly, hates Trump and McConnell more than they already did.

So, let's talk about how this will really go down.
They have from now until October 9th in session. During that time, they need to work on things that will lock down as many votes as they can for GOP Senators, and for Trump. Replacing RBG might not be the thing that will clinch the election. In fact, the message could be "Vote for me or the D's will get the seat." If that seat is locked up before election day, the leverage is gone.
They will be back in session after election day, but before inauguration. At that time, they can do whatever they want. They will know the outcome of the elections. And either they are still in, in which case, they are doing the will of the people, or they have been voted out, so the people can go fuck themselves.
Voting for or against any Senator that will go along with this bullshit won't make a difference in 2020. The people we really need to press on are the ones up for re-election in 2022. They are the ones who might be held accountable for their actions. The only other hope we have is decent GOP senators, who care about the constitution AND believe that preserving balance is of more interest to the US than having God-loving judges is. They are few and far between.

One possible exception is McSally's seat. She was appointed so Mark Kelly could possibly take office this year if he beats McSally.
The ACA is effectively done. A 4:4 reverts to the lower court decision. I don't think we'll get 2 of them to go our way. So bye bye ACA. In the middle of a pandemic.
Oh, and you know who makes final election related litigation decisions, right?

Oh I bet it irritates McConnell to be called out on his BS by Obama. We all know what the blocking of Merrick Garland was really about on McConnell's end. Nice to see it called so elegantly. I miss having a president who could form proper sentences. www.cnn.com/2020/09/19/politics/obama-ruth-bader-ginsburg-supreme-court-nominee/index.htmlFour and a half years ago, when Republicans refused to hold a hearing or an up-or-down vote on Merrick Garland, they invented the principle that the Senate shouldn't fill an open seat on the Supreme Court before a new president was sworn in," Obama said.
"A basic principle of the law -- and of everyday fairness -- is that we apply rules with consistency, and not based on what's convenient or advantageous in the moment," he continued. "The rule of law, the legitimacy of our courts, the fundamental workings of our democracy all depend on that basic principle. As votes are already being cast in this election, Republican Senators are now called to apply that standard." Also really nice to read a proper tribute to her from a former president. "Justice Ginsburg inspired the generations who followed her, from the tiniest trick-or-treaters to law students burning the midnight oil to the most powerful leaders in the land," Obama wrote. "Michelle and I admired her greatly, we're profoundly thankful for the legacy she left this country, and we offer our gratitude and our condolences to her children and grandchildren tonight. And here is our current one www.cnn.com/2020/09/19/politics/trump-ruth-bader-ginsburg-vacant-seat-fill/index.htmlGOP We were put in this position of power and importance to make decisions for the people who so proudly elected us, the most important of which has long been considered to be the selection of United States Supreme Court Justices. We have this obligation, without delay!"You could have at least waited until she was buried before you hit Twitter.

NOTE: I have started a new thread for discussion of the open seat with the idea of this thread being to honor RBG. Thought she deserved that.

Even better, there is a PAC with an awesome name funding the opponents of the 12 Republicans up for re-election who are considered “unseatable”: Get Mitch or Die Trying. See VotesaveAmerica.com

Considering that we have two S/C justices who have been accused of sexual misconduct to put it politely, I don't think this will stop anyone the POTUS brings forward from accepting

I have had great respect for RBG and how she has been a warrior for the causes of women, the left, LBTGQ community, social justice. I am sad at her death. I want to thank the posters here for making me more aware of the deep emotional connection that you have for RBG. I didn't have that, but I appreciate you expressing that connection for I would not have known that deep connection and I'm sure there are many of my parishioners that have the same deep connection. Your posts will help me be more sensitive to what many of my parishioners are feeling. Again, thank you.
