Paid off my Macy's credit card. Saved $5.71 in interest versus making only the minimum payment until it was paid off.
More importantly, I'm committed to never letting a balance accumulate on that card again. If I can't pay it off in full, I don't need it.

This in no way saved money, but it made me happy I just wrote another $5000 check for this <-------------------- ;D Slowly, slowly coming together. The builder is going to start milling more logs this week. Hopefully I'll have pics of it standing in the warehouse soon!!

So I had an appointment on campus today about a half mile from where my parking permit allows me to park right next to my building where I have all my classes. I SO wanted to just use one of the metered spots next to the building I needed to be in, instead of walking in the cold. But I sucked it up, parked where I had already payed for parking, and just walked to the other building. That saved me some change from the parking meter AND I got a little exercise. Go me!

Yay Coffeegrl! I hate walking in the cold so I really admire your stick-to-it-iveness. I think I just made up a word! Anyway, karma for you!

Teh streets cleared enough today to go work out, plus we walked around in the snow-it was nice to get ouside. I did spend money on gasoline but haven't spent on anything else except groceries since the snow and ice fell.

Well I resisted the urge to go out shopping today. I thought it best to stay home and really consider what I may need for this coming week. I plan to go out Sunday for those essentials like bread, milk, etc., but hopefully make that my only trip for the week. For lunch I made a pot of hearty home made vegetable soup using produce from the fridge and freezer that needed to find a purpose soon. Threw in a handful of elbow macaroni and voila! I really have a hard time now eating canned soup. To me it just tastes, well, over processed. I also cracked open a few dozen black walnuts from my own trees to use in some cooking and baking. I have to admit, after grumbling for the past several years and having to pick them up by the barrel full, that I like them much better than regular walnuts.

I went to the library today and checked out 3 books I want to read instead of buying them. I work at a bookstore, so it's always been so easy for me, in the past, to say, "Well, I'm getting a discount on the books since I work here. I should buy them. It's like saving money!" Now, I just go to the library.

The snow is melted-we got to go to church today! Hooray! So far, no burst pipes-we are waiting to see on our icemaker line.

Made some decisions over the weekend that will positively effect my life, even if that means that some people won't "like" me for it.

Thank you I had always known that I needed to do some pruning, but old habits die hard.

nalto I have had to do the 'pruning' thing in my life before, it is hard to do. Some friendships/relationships just run their course and it's time to move on. Good luck and karma for you

Yesterday, I subscribed to JUST the Sunday paper for the one that always has the most/best coupons in them. That will save me from having to go out on a Sunday to get it, if I don't already have plans. And the subscription rate will save me between $3 and $4 per month, depending on if there's 4 or 5 Sundays. I know that's not a lot, but every little bit helps.

I had a work meeting tonight where they served dinner. There were 14 buns left and normally they would get tossed out. I scooped them up, put 12 in the freezer and have 2 out to go with my chili tomorrow.

Just wanted to comment on laterbloomers post - sort of. We sometimes have group lunches at work and almost always have enough food to eat for at least two days. We generally send leftovers home with one or two of the employees who we know are struggling, and they get another meal or snacks for their kids. One of our gals has 4 kids and a deadbeat ex, so we tend to look out for her. It may not be highbrow fare, but Subway or KFC and the like is appreciated none the less. It makes me feel good to know that we are helping someone else who needs the help.

I cam home last night to takeout pizza! I can't win for losing. We had another little talk about being careful with our money but it didn't look like it made an impression at all. He just enjoyed his pizza. I guess the good thing is that the pizza was just a medium and not the large he would normally get.

My fiance will most likely be working some construction jobs when he moves out here in a week or so, so we were talking about more real world budgets and little things so we can use his income to save for the honeymoon and to pay back some money he previously borrowed from his parents.
So, we agreed to brown bag it instead of doing "fast food" or roach coaches for lunches (I already brown bag... its so normal here that it would be weird to not take food with me to work)... but he was honest and said he'd need my help cause he's horrible at planning, so we are going to pack lunches together the night before so they are ready to go for the next day.
he's so cute!

I have officially saved up the money to pay my 6 month car insurance, renters insurance, flood insurance, vehicle inspection and vehicle registration fees for this year. I had an inkling that our state would be raising various fees so I increased the amount of the fees I'll pay.
I also saved up enough money to pay for my mother's long term care policy for the year and her flood insurance.
This was a stretch, but with the work environment being so unstable; I didn't want to have to worry about these things for at least a year if anything happened.

Oh, one more thing... I left the oh so cute, discounted Coach tennis shoes on the shelf. Instead I left the store with 2 sets of clearanced priced, twin-sized sheet sets for a local shelter and a set of 3 men's socks for 1/3 the price of the tennis shoes.

In the Save Money category: ate at home and planned out a few meals with leftovers continued to recycle which allows me to use the smallest trashcan service available and fill it up twice a month made my own coffee and clearanced creamer (yum) looked over my books, decided not to buy more for a long time
In the Improve my Life category: paid to have a house cleaner come over for 4 hours - my sinks are so shiny! got a massage and feel so good

Thanks Waffle! I needed that!
DH had to work the closing shift last night so I took leftover homemade chili and repurposed it into taco soup which he loves. I had a very small bowl (not a great choice for my tummy) and when he got in at 10, he ate like a starved dog! And we had enought left over that the next evening shift he works, he can have it again. Yay for wondeful leftovers!
I did laundry and nothing else except knitting last night. I needed some peace and calm!
